Very easy to study for I really liked his class, the way he talks is kinda funny but he is such a sweet and easy going professor. His work wasn't hard, just study for exams and you will be fine.

One of the best out, Godshalk will give you a laugh as well as leave you with a great knowledge. He was challenging but very fair and the tests are not bad as long as you actually try to understand the material. He can be quite boring at times with his voice and all but overall a great guy id definitely take a class with him again.

At the time that I took his class, I was a geo-environmental major. His class was one of the reasons I switched to history. I learned a lot and remembered the information. He is so sweet! And he is an easy grader. I don't remember much about the class. I do remember that he had a day where since we came to class and it was heavily snowing, we had a free day. We basically were given the open opportunity to get extra credit. Everyone got extra credit that showed up and it was a fun activity that we got to do (make a menu either from the old or the new world. Most creative got the most points. My partner and I got 5 points. The highest.) I frequently saw him the 2 semesters after I had him and he still knew me by name and greeted me. He is more than willing to help his students and explain anything that needs explained. He's a great professor and I really learned a lot. If given the opportunity, definitely take him!

I learned a lot in Dr. Godshalk's class! His quizzes are pretty simple, but his midterm and final were difficult for me. You have to study for them, because they both cover a lot of information. They are worth the majority of your grade and are the only "exams".

When I first stepped into Dr. Godshalk's room, his introduction seemed off and pretty boring. When you're in his room, time may feel like it's going an hour a minute, but trust me, if you put the work into the class and actually pay attention to what he's specifically saying, you'll do fine. His quizzes and tests are EXTREMELY short, so make sure that you study the basic elements of what he's saying. He'll go over every quiz that he gives out right before taking that quiz; the same goes for tests. If you're majoring in history, this shouldn't be too difficult. Just study 2 days in advance and pay attention in class to get a B or higher. Also, he's a pretty good grader, if you need help with a paper or upcoming quiz/test, he'll gladly help you.

This man is the best teacher I have ever had. He is adorable and loves to help his students. There are 5 quizzes and he gives you the questions before hand. He tries to give you every point possible. The hardest part of the class is the essay at the end of the semester, but he lets you give him a copy of your draft and he will correct it for you. He's really approachable and likes to get to know his students.

Godshalk is a pretty good prof. He only gives 2 tests, a presentation, and a paper. The classes tend to drag on, which may be due to the subject matter. He does not teach very well, but you are prepared for the tests because he basically tells you what topics you should be familiar with.

He is very nice and really wants you to do well in his class. There are 5 quizzes all year (they are one or two essay questions). He gives you as many points as he possibly can. The only downside is the 250 point essay that is 4-6 pages. Its 25% of the total grade so it was a major stressor. I ended up with an A- on the paper so it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. His lectures get boring but overall, its a pretty easy B. (I didn't read one chapter out of the book)

This class rocked. I would of had an A but I tanked my final. This was no ones fault but my own. He is very straightforward and tells you exactly what you need to know and look for. It is up to you to do the work but he is really easy to work with and approach. My advice to anyone would be to take his classes and read what is assigned... it would be an easy A.

Godshalk was a great prof. I learned a lot about ancient history from him. He is kind of boring though. There’s no homework. The tests are hard though, he expects a lot out of your essays and I mean A LOT. My test essays were up to 4 or 5 pages long in order to get an A on them. But he is still much better than the other history profs. Who expect you to read like 50 pages a night.

Dr. Godshalk is one of the most approachable professors I've had at Shippensburg, especially in light of his additional duties as the head of the history department. It honestly took me a while to decide whether or not I liked him, because he does have a sort of hesitant way of lecturing and interacting with students, but every single time I needed help or feedback on a topic or assignment, he was available and willing to help. The only negative feedback that I have is that his lectures have a tendency to be a bit disoriented and I'm not altogether sure that he's completely comfortable with powerpoint. I'm not sure why people have said that his accent is distracting, because it's barely noticeable, and I'm also not sure why people have said that he's a demanding professor, because I got an A (or its equivalent) on every single assignment that I handed in to him (and there was one that I completely didn't get a chance to study for). As far as assignments, we had to do 2 journal assignments (these were basically 5-7 page papers), five (announced) quizzes, and a midterm and a final (we had a choice between taking traditional exams and writing papers instead). Yes he has an attendance policy, but when you get to upper-level classes in almost any major, all of the best professors do. Suck it up and go to class...that's what you're here for. He's always in his office during office hours and always gives you his complete attention when you're there. Overall, Dr. Godshalk is a really good professor who really cares about his students; I highly recommend taking a class with him.

This may be a somewhat biased review, because I like history and it interests me a lot, but I thought Godshalk was a good and fair teacher. He expected a decent amount of work from you, but it's college so I expected to have a lot of work. We had to do 2 journals (he took the best grades out of 3 journal entries you do), and we had 3 exams where you get to pick which parts of the test you wanted to do. The paragraph responses on the tests were easy if you just listened to his somewhat boring lectures. We had a number of easy quizzes throughout the semester, too. Yea he does talk funny and all, but he's a smart and nice teacher who's willing to help you if your grade is slacking. We even watched 300 in his class with a sh*tload of food to eat at the end of the semester. Take Godshalk.

Dr. Godshalk is one of the best teachers I've had here at Shippensburg. I had him 3 hours a night every monday. The first few days he said we'd never get out early and came off like it was gonna be an impossible class, however, this was all intimidation. He ended up being a really good teacher, I gained a lot of knowlege from his class. Participation really helps out. The homework is manageable and he keeps things fairly interesting. There are a lot of notes, and he grading style is a bit rough, but the final was optional and he even told us we didn't have to write one of the papers. I got a B+ and he jumped it up to an A-. If you don't mind showing up and putting a little effort, take this class. He's a pretty cool guy.

Dr. Godshalk is a very good teacher. He talks slow, but that just gives you time to write down notes and take down the important stuff. You only have 2 test and a final, which isn't accumulative. He gives you all the material that's on the tests EXACTLY. He really knows his stuff and is a really easy going guy. I'd recommend him!

If you want to get an easy A, take him!! He is the cutest little man and extremely nice. He will help you with anything you need. You only take 2 tests and they are both very short and easy. One is an essay and he gives you the question! You write 2 small papers which are very easy, also. I didnt spend more than an hour on either of them.

Dr. Godshalk overall is a good guy - yes, his lectures can be on the dry side, but he genuinely cares about each one of his students. His tests aren't bad, and if you study EXACTLY everything he says, and attend an SI session or two, you'll do fine. There are several people in my class that were disappointed he's not teaching next semester, because we would have all taken him again! If you want a teacher you will get something out of, but be challenged, take Dr. Godshalk.

I had Dr. Godshalk my first semester of my freshman year history and hated it. Normally I do not hate history but this class made me dislike it. Dr. Godshalk is boring and takes off ridiculous points for not adding very much detail to your writings and he looks for participation in class but has no clue what your name is. He just says "yes." He doesn't even take attendance. Lastly, his extra credit opportunities are dumb. You go to on campus speeches and write a paper on it about your thoughts. If someone would be a commuter, do you think they would want to go back up to campus for something like that.

Dr. Godshalk has to be one of the worst professors that I have ever had. All of his tests are essays and if you do not go into detail he gives you -10 on everything. His voice is so annoying and his facial expressions piss me off so much. I would not recommend this guy as a teacher for anything. I barely made a C in this class and History is normally one of my best subjects. He is the head of the history department and I dont know why! Everyone else in my class complains about him and he thinks he is so cool....def do not take him

He isnt a bad teacher depending on how you learn. What I mean is, if you learn well by raising your hand, giving a damn good answer that is correct, and being told you are wrong because you didnt phrase it correctly, then this is the prof. for you! This guy taught at an Ivy League school, apparently, and decided to teach at Ship. He is the department chair of the History department, and holds all his students up to the standards of his Ivy League students. I do not recommend Godshalk to anybody.

Dr. Godshalk knows his African American History, the problem is he tends not to be able to put his point accross in a very meaningful manner. The other problem is that if it is not African American History, he doesn't know jack about it. He tries to dictate his notes to students which just slows down the class and makes it even slower. Not that I mind being graded hard or anything, but he does tend to ask for the impossible sometimes. I don't recommend him to any student, freshmen through grad.

If you want to hear someone talk slow like Forrest Gump, then this is your guy. He shows videos in almost every class and gives you busy work when he can't find anything for you to do but he doesn't want to cancel class. The one good thing is that he gave us the option to choose between writing a paper and taking the test. Don't even take notes because he gives them in a random ass order. You won't be able to find anything you need in them. Nice guy but boring prof.

Prepubescent teacher... his voice is too much and you end up laughing half of his class. If you want to do well on his tests don't listen to his lectures... he often contradicts something he said a half hour before and wants one of the two answers on the test. 3 hours got him out of the way and a pizza party ended up being the final. Yes i did feel like i was in high school but i was glad to be done with him. His tests are essays that he definitly adds bias too when he grades them. The guy in front of me got an A on an essay test that he showed me he BS'd on and i got a C and explained my answers and he bumped me to a B..not sure he should be back to teach here... or anywhere else.

Dr. Godshalk is a decent professor. Sometimes he can drone on, but if you don't look at the clock the class seems to go relatively fast. He makes you work for your grade. If you do what you're supposed to do and get things turned in on time, you'll do fine. When you write the paper go have him look over it so he can edit it for you. Do all of the readings because his quizzes involve the readings.
