Dr. Harrow, at first, was boring, but I believe that is because the subject matter was dry. The information she was covering was essential for the final assignments in the class, but was still boring. What I admire about her is that she put forth effort to make the class interactive and more lively. Later, when we began writing papers (not too many, maybe 3 short essays, 1 long essay) she helped us in any way we needed. She is a wonderful person. She is very approachable and easy to talk to.

Dr. Harrow is very kind, humorous, and sweet. I can honestly say she is one of my favorite professors so far. As an English major, I thoroughly enjoyed her teaching style and the way she dramatized all our readings to reinforce their relevance to modern culture. I think one of the best days of class was when someone brought in old "hoop skirts" from the depths of the drama department and she modeled it for us and some of us girls also had the chance to try them on. Lots of fun! The work load was rather enjoyable, especially if you are passionate about the subject area like I am.

Dr. Harrow is one of the sweetest, most intelligent, and caring professor here at Ship. Her class is full of interesting material and funny jokes surrounded by a loving environment. Ask her about what a semicolon means to her... it will change the way you look at grammar! Her class consists of semi-daily quizzes, 2 tests, 2 papers, and participation. Take Brit Lit with Harrow!!!

Dr. Harrow is a really sweet, funny, and endearingly quirky woman. She's a total dork for British lit and ties goofy pop-culture references in with it. She's really understanding and not a hard grader, and if you're concerned about anything just talk to her during office hours and she'll fix it for you. She got a dog this semester named Bob or "Bob the Dog" and brought him to class a few times, which was fun...you know, if you like dogs, which I happen to. Anyway, take her, she's a good prof.

A real teacher. She wants you to learn and wants you to know the things you need to know to succeed in college. If you meet with her and tell her your goals, and treat her like a real person, she will make sure you are working toward the grade you want. She will also give you chocolate if you visit her during office hours.

If you're not the kind of person who reads assignments when a prof assigns them, then don't take this class. If you're not lazy, Dr. Harrow is the best! She is so passionate and has so much fun with what she teaches. You will really learn a lot! She's a fair grader and if you take the time to talk to her, she'll love you. But don't think she is a push over...because she refuses to take any crap from anyone! As long as you do your work and participate in class, you'll LOVE her.

Reading quizzes on the assignment due for the day aren't that bad. I mean they are almost verbatim hardcore events from the text. If the main event in a chapter of Nickel and Dimed was a coworker got injured, what was the injury. Get used to the in class assignments and you'll do just fine.

Dr. Harrow comes across as a tough teacher but in all actuality, she just wants everyone to grasp the material and participate in class. Her exams and quizzes are tough but fair, and open discussion classes are always fun. I highly recommend taking her for as many classes as you can.

I can't believe I got a B+ in this course. I thought this class was pretty tough, but Dr. Harrow grades rather easily. The midterm and final seem rather intimidating, but as long as you put something remotely correct for an answer she'll award you some if not all of the points. There was no paper for this class - that's a plus! And Dr. Harrow is just a very nice woman and funny too. I recommend taking her, even though her class may not be the easiest. We often had to get into small groups and pick apart literature (which I hate), but like I said, she grades easily. If I can manage a B+ in this class, you'll be able to do well!

Don't let the "A" fool you, Dr. Harrow's class wasn't a breeze to get through. She assigns a good deal of reading and there are three papers due throughout the semester. She grades th papers hard, but with reason. In class she gives specific criteria for how she wants the papers completed, and she's always there to help anyone who might need it. She schedules conference time so she can have a one on one interaction with each student to make sure they understand the material. If you meet with her at these time instead of taking it as a day out of class, she is very helpful. There are several days that she does not hold class so you can spend that hour working on your papers instead. The only way a person can fail this class is if they simply don't do the work. If you read the material, go to class, and use her "out of class" class periods wisely, then this class is easy. If you're looking for a class that you can skip every day or not read the material, then I would not recommend Dr. Harrow.

This lady is wild and makes the class very interesting. All we did was read stories and for the most part they were interesting and then we took a short quiz. The classes were easy, the quizzes were easy, and she made the class interesing to be in. Def an easy A as long as you show up to class and read what you are supposed to

Dr. Harrow is one of the smartest professors in the english department but she doesn't let it go to her head. She teaches with a lot of passion for the topics that she covers and always relates things in a way that you can better understand them. Although some of the material was boring, she still kept everyone interested with her stories of her "18th Century Friends" and all of the places that she has lived and been to. Harrow kicks ass!!! TAKE HER!!!!

She gives a lot of classes off and gives a lot of time to do papers (of which there are only 3). She is so easy going and always in a good mood. If you have a chance take this professor

She has a pleasant demeanor, is intelligent, and can be really funny when she gets in the mood (which is often). Her tests are few, and somewhat difficult. However, you are well prepared for them by constant classroom discussion, which the tests are based upon. A good professor.

I'm taking her again next semester. I loved going to her classes b/c she always encouraged interaction between the students. Extra credit was always available. She was a bit hyper at times, but it provided comic relief. The 4 paper assignments seemed never-ending, but we only had one quiz and one final, that's all. Oh yeh, in reference to the "scum on the shower curtain".. it's just always there!

Dr. Harrow was an AWERSOME prof and i learned so much from her! She daily brought a positive attitude and sense of humor to her class. It was always a pleasure to go to class. She is a tough grader on the papers. (there are four of them) but she is always willing to help you with them during her office hours. There is no mid-term. Plus, she also has opportunities for extra credit. I would highy recommend Dr. Harrow. And make sure you ask her about the "scum on the shower curtain!"

Dr. Harrow completely tore down the stereotypical labels I had placed on ALL English teachers! Instead of being stuffy, arrogant, and picky (as most English teachers I've had in the past...)she was very helpful, patient, and seems to generally connect with the students! The class wasn't nearly as tough as I had anticipated...and I actually think I might miss it! Nah...but I will definitely look for her name to be on the schedule for the Eng. credits that I need in the future! Oh yeah...one more thing... did I mention awesome?!

She is a very nice lady. She is young and down-to-earth. I really enjoyed going to her class. She is very smart. She is not an easy grader, but as long as you hand everything in on time and not work on it the night before you will do fine. The papers require a lot of work, but otherwise, she is a nice lady and i would recommend her if you want to learn something.

If I had to recommend any prof it would be Harrow. She is so intelligent it blows me away! I learned so much from her and enjoyed all of her classes. She's so down to earth and is on the same level as the students. Her classes are comfortable and relaxed but at the same time challenging. The work load isn't that difficult as long as you take the time to do it. She is very very understanding and is always willing to help a student out. I had her twice and enjoyed going to her classes. She is very nice and again willing to help you, because she helped me out a lot! You don't want to leave Ship without takin her!

this teacher falls in the middle. her class is not hard, just very tedious. she makes you write about really stupid stuff. she is very helpful in class, not sure about out of class. you don't learn much more than you learned in high school or even middle school, but it doesn't require a lot of out of class work except for writing the papers which is one every month or so and they are only a few pages. took me a few hours to write them at the most.

Dr. Harrow is not worth the work and effort you have to put into the class to receive an ok grade. If I was an Lit major and I had to take her for a required class I would be willing to do the work but the fact that its a stupid Gen ed that will have you reading for at least an hour and a half for each class is crazy. All you do is read the novel or short stories which are really long stories then discuss what you read in class then she tells you to do close reading to talk more deeply about the story. SPENT HALF OF EVERY CLASS RE-READING STORIES I ALREADY READ.

First off, maybe i'm being a baby, but her grading scale is such that if you receive below a sixty-five, you fail. Because of this technicality, I now must take British writers one for a third time, although thank goodness harrow is not teaching it next semester. That being said, harrow is not a very good professor. Her directions, guidelines, and assignment descriptions were sometimes unclear, and if you asked her to clarify, she'd give the most wishy-washy, mystifying answers, and not seem to care. I agree with earlier comments deriding her sense of humor, but I will concur that this has nothing to do with her overall teaching ability, other than the fact that it tended to lower the morale of myself and my fellow students. Only the most diligent, hardass students need apply.

I don't know what all the positive comments are about. Maybe Harrow grades differently for gen. eds. but for required English courses she is terrible. I have had numerous upper level courses that I found a breeze compared to her class. I can't graduate on time because of her! Harrow continuously made me feel like my comments and opinions were insignificant. She practically called me "stupid" when I discussed a paper with her. I am not arguing her intellectual ability; I know she is intelligent. I wish that she would have done a better job educating me rather than trying to force me to realize just how inferior I am to her. Avoid her at all costs or suck up like hell!!

Dr. Harrow is really passionate about her class. There is a decent amount of reading required, but usually most pieces are discussed in class. She gets really mad when no one reads and often just tells people to leave. Her exams were online, but don't let that fool you. They are very difficult. You can copy answers right from your notes, and the answer is still not good enough. Dr. Harrow knows her stuff and has a great sense of humor, but is not an easy teacher.
