This class was soooo easy it was unbelieveable. Yes the homework labs and stuff are so stupid but there are no tests in this class, just quizzes after each Chapter. As long as you did your homework labs you should be able to get 90s on the quizzes. So easy, so so easy.

This was one of the weirdest programming classes I've ever taken. Dr. Armstrong assigns homework (that never gets graded),makes you take 2 tests, and do a programming project that incorporates all your homework (10% of final grade). Word of advice: the first test is completely on blackboard and is multiple choice... All the answers are drawn from the practice tests he posts online. Just do them before the test. Overall I would go with Dr. Danesh, just because his class is more structured... Cheers!

I really dunno why anyone would give Dr. Armstrong a negative review. I already knew VB before I took this class, but most everyone else didn't, and our class average was really high. He will meet with you whenever you need anything and is super helpful. I hope he teaches a higher-level course so I can take him again!

I had a good experience in the class, but it was a summer class. I have heard he requires more work during a normal semester. Either way, I had no programming experience and I had no problem with the material. Just do the work that is assigned and you will be OK.

Unfortunately, if you are an MIS major, you will have to take Armstrong at one point or another. The class is difficult. You have 2 exams which make up 80% of your final grade. You have to do several programs with a lot of documentation, a group program, and put it all together in a binder. It takes a lot of time, but is only worth 5% of your final grade. He assigns programs as homework, but he never looks at or grades them. He scribbles all kinds of stuff on the board that you are supposed to make note of, but you can't read anything he writes. He also rambles through PowerPoints pretty often. It is an incredibly boring class, and he is not a good teacher. He also takes forever to hand back projects and test grades, and he makes a lot of last minute changes on the programs that you have to turn in. He will literally tell you to do it one way, you will do it, and then he will have you completely change it a few days later. Although, he is available for office hours and will occasionally help you in class if you have questions.

Seriously I have never written a comment about any teacher on here but I had to for him. He is so bad ALL the other teachers KNOW and are trying to take his classes from him but because he's senior capstone they cant! Seriously stay away from him... I'm a good student and his class was ridiculous. He has assignments then adds stuff the day before because he is so unorganized. If you can, take anyone over him!

If you want tons of hw, long and boring classes with the professor talking to the board, and being utterly confused, take him! He's absolutely awful. I worked my butt of in this class. I've never programmed in my life before and he made learning visual basic difficult and frustrating. I've never gone to a professor's office hours so much and gotten nothing out of it. He has no idea when you ask him specific questions. I worked hours upon hours on his hw. I've never worked so hard in my life to get a good grade. If you can help it, don't take him.

He lectures and assigns programs but doesn't grade them even though you spend hours working on them. He gives you two tests the entire semester and that's your grade, so if you mess up on one, you're screwed. You also have this huge programming binder you have to put together that takes forever, and its only 5% of your grade, even though it should be more like 30%. Don't take unless you absolutely have to.

Seriously, do not take Armstrong if you can avoid him. He is a computer teacher, yet he spends 99 percent of class starring at the dry eraser board writing and talking to himself. If he makes eye contact during class, make a note of it, because it wont happen again. He may be the worst teacher ive ever had. And his tests are ridiculous. I have a 3.8 GPA and i had to absolutely kill myself to get a B in this class. Its not that he gave that much work, its just he cant teach, and the work he does give, is very very very confusing. DONT TAKE HIM

No matter if you are an MIS or Business Ed. major you have to take this class. But do whatever you can to not take Dr. Armstrong. He says he won't work with Visual Basic very much, but this is all you work with. If you miss one step while following along, just forget it because you are a goner. His tests may seem easy when you take them, but your answers are probably all wrong. This is an intro to programming which should be all kinds of programming, but instead he only talks about Visual Basic and he goes very in depth. DON'T TAKE THIS TEACHER WHATEVER YOU DO!!!! TAKE IT OVER THE SUMMER IF YOU HAVE TO!!!!

Its not that Gary isn't a nice guy, or wants to help, its that he is just a bad professor. He creates a situation in ISM446 where he is your manager the whole class, not a teacher. If you enjoy constant negative feedback, and not knowing what is going on in a class, Gary is the right prof for you

this guy was useless as a professor. In the classes that I took with him I was neither impressed with his programming knowledge or his ability to manage the TIS class. My God, in TIS he decided that teams were equal in skill if the sum of GPAs on each team were about equal... Hardly an indication of the needed skills. I'd recommend avoiding him if at all possible. He's about as useless of a professor as you could get.

Dr. Armstrong's ISM 142 class is the most worthless class that I have taken. It is just like a high school computer class made hard. Armstrong has no idea about half of the things he is teaching about and his tests are from the book's publisher. The class is boring to say the least. He gives you projects that are not clear on what is supposed to be done and you will be lost. Avoid Armstrong at all costs. He should probably hop on his motorcycle and ride it back on down to Georgia.

Somewhat nice guy from down south, should probobly stay there. He might somewhat know the stuff, but he was just like me, he could only do it and not show it. Class is a joke if you know about computers, but bottom line is find a teacher who can teach this class...

Not a bad teacher, but not great either. You will have to teach yourself most of it but if you need help he is always around to fix your program. It just feels like he is learning right with you, so if you figure out the problem before he does, don't be surpised.

Classes are incredibly boring, they involve sitting and watching PowerPoints which sucks. I knew most of the information before the class so I can't really judge on how good he teaches the material. He just reads from the PowerPoint presentations he creates then has you look at them and read the book before you take your quizes.

If you want to get a good grade in this class you will have to work your butt off. There are quizes everyday and they are very difficult. The projects are also very time consuming-he doesn't give directions and expects you to read his mind. I did learn a little bit though. Honestly, there are a lot easier profs to take this course with.

I don't know how I passed this course, but somehow the rpogramming gods were with me. I had GA for a summer class. Since I've never had a class that lasts longer than 75 minutes before, I was bored out of my mind in these 4 hour bore-me-to-death classes. To be effective, he may consider get admin to put him in a building with AC for starters. I can say at any point in time over 50% of the class was on instant messanger of surfing the web. DO THE PORTFOLIO. It doesn't matter if your work if paper out of the recycle bin, just so the first assignment resembles programming, you have a cover page, and a nice, neat 3 ring binder. I deserved an "F" but got a "C", which is why I've upgraded him to a neutral. Take him at your own risk during the real school year. BTW - summer classes are WAY easier!

MIS majors, get used to this dude because you'll be seeing a lot of him. Aside from the ponytail comb-over and his love for Miatas (yikes!) he really knows his stuff. Pay attention and whatever you do, KEEP AN ORGANIZED PORTFOLIO!!!! I can't stress this enough. I deserved a B in this class and got an A because of organization. It's important! Good luck.
