Kingsley is a good man. It is possible to get an A, I promise. Yes, you do get a t-shirt, strive for it. Actually read your textbook and you will pass. Pay attention to what he says to other people after they give their speeches, learn from them. It is 100% possible, yes the final is close to almost 200 questions but if you study it helps. Here is a way to help, read the textbook, do the study method SQ3R, and type up those questions. Use those typed up questions to study for the midterm and final. You will have success if you just do exactly what he tells you to.

Sure, he's cooky and might be seen as a deranged person, but that made his class fun. I hate speeches just as much as the next person, but his class was honestly fun to attend. And the speeches. You have a whole whopping two more, and let me tell you, he does not grade hard as everyone says. For instance, there was a kid in the class who gave the wrong speech, he still got a 90. His biggest thing he grades on is 100% eye contact. It's honestly not that hard if you practice. The only hard thing about his class is the weekly quizzes. If you read the night before, and a little bit before you class, you can at least get a B. The issue I had with the quizzes was the answers (a-d) all seemed to be quite similar to each other, but that shows that you really have to know the vocab. Overall, his class is very fun to attend and he is really funny. He makes class interesting, and he is always on his computer ready to receive any emails you might have to ask him about a speech etc.

I hated Professor Kignsley at first. I thought he was crazy and he did not explain the assignments very well. Now he is probably one of my favorite professors. He was hard at first and there are those stupid reading checks every Friday that are hard even if you do the reading. Once you get to the speeches he helps you so much. You can e-mail him the outline and he will correct it for you. I was terrified to speak in front of anyone and now I am confident in my speaking ability. He gives feedback and sometimes it is strange but always helpful. He always has something good to say. If you put effort in your grade will show it. He really is a great professor. Everyone who is scared to speak publicly should consider Kingsley.

This man is very intimidating, as he should be... he is 80 years old. He knows his facts and will twist your head with some of the things he says. There will be many times when you will have no idea what the heck your supposed to do in the class, but have no fear. He records himself, so you can listen to him on "dear old D2l" and he will "whisper sweet nothings into your ear." But overall listen to what he has to say, PREPARE FOR YOUR SPEECHES OR YOU WILL FAIL THEM.

Dr. Kingsley can be quite intimidating at first, but he really is a funny guy sometimes. Sure, there's a lot of work involved and he sometimes scares the crap out of you...but it's college, and he's giving you a taste of the real world. As long as you do what he says and read the assigned book chapters, you should pass pretty easily.

IF YOU HATE SPEAKING IN FRONT OF PEOPLE, TAKE KINGSLEY. Fear of public speaking is something you need to get over if you want to be successful in life. Kingsley is the only professor I know of that makes you be constantly writing speeches. Basically every day you hear/give speeches. There are five speeches you make throughout the semester (2 informative, 1 persuasive, 1 chalk talk and 1 debate) . You start with your basic informative speech and pick a topic off his long list. You start at the beginning of the roster and when you get to the last student, you start all over again with the next speech. Also, there are quizzes on the readings every Friday. Best advice: just read! I would have gotten a B in the class if I had actually did the reading and did well on those quizzes.

I had Kingsley for my first semester ever in college. I wasn't sure what to think at first because everything was so new to me, but once the semester really got started I decided that I really liked his class. You have a quiz every Friday on the reading that is assigned, be careful because the first one may seem really easy, but they get a hell of a lot harder, so make sure you actually read the chapter and then study the way he suggests on the first day of class. During the first month or so you're busy either taking some notes, or working on your group speeches, or interviews.... don't worry, they're not that hard at all!!! After the interviews are done all you really do for the rest of the semester is sit in class and listen to your classmates give their speeches, and then will give yours in turn. Not that bad is it?? Like I said, you'll have a quiz pretty much every single Friday, and then there's a mid term which isn't too bad, and then the final, which is a little harder than the midterm, and you also have your speech grades, so there's a lot of points to earn in his class. I also really enjoyed when Kingsley lectured because he's OLD (sorry Kingsley, but it's true), and EXTREMELY unpredictable!!! His classes were always entertaining, and fun. I would recommend him if you want a prof that will tell you what to work on to become a much better public speaker, and someone that wants a good laugh at least once every two classes or so. Have fun, and don't forget to study!!

Having Dr. Kingsley for a prof is not as bad as some people make it out to be, he just has a different way of teaching the class. I'll admit after hearing about his class I was a little scared, but once the class is underway and in the rotation it isn't that bad. He does seem critical of your speaking, but he is really helping you become a better speaker, so if you cant take minor criticism then I don't suggest taking him. But if you want a minor challenge then I suggest taking the class, he is a really great teacher once you loosen up to his style of teaching.

I read ShipUnderground the week before classes and I was horrified to start this class. This man seemed sadistic, foul, senile, and generally not-all-there-upstairs based on the reviews. I went into the class frightened, and the first few classes are terribly intimidating. However, when the momentum of the class picked up, I found myself quite happy with the experience.
Yes, Dr. Kingsley is a bit off-the-wall. While I personally appreciated his dramatic method of speaking and frequent breaks for demented little impersonations or jokes, I understand that it is not for everyone. However, this does not take away from Kingsley's highly-effective teaching style. Not much time is actually spent in note-taking once the cycle of projects is underway, so if his method is truly incomprehensible to you, I would recommend getting the notes from a friend. By the end of the semester you probably won't accumulate more than 4-5 pages of lecture notes.
The class moves at a consistent pace after the first project- an interview- is completed. From here, the class goes through a series of speeches- you will have about 2 weeks between your presentations to get through the entire class rotation. The speeches grow more complex and longer as the class goes on, though the longest speech will not be made to exceed 3 minutes, and rarely do even the most thorough presentations reach beyond 6-7 minutes.
Kingsley is not some kind of unreasonable monster when it comes to criticism- he ALWAYS, particularly on early speeches, makes an effort to say something positive, even about the most terrible speeches. He follows up with constructive criticism, and your grade will drastically improve if you take his criticism into consideration on upcoming speeches- even if you aren't very good at public speaking, it's possible to get 'B's on the speeches granted you ACTUALLY LISTEN AND TAKE HIS ADVICE.
The supposed "ridicule" and "mockery" that most people talk about rarely exceeds an imitation of poor vocalic stress- if you speak in a way that every phrase ends with an upward inflection like a question, he's going to call you on it. He doesn't do it to be malicious, he doesn't do it to make you feel bad, he does it so you understand what it sounds like and what to look for, while perhaps making a little humor. I suggest promptly calling the WAAAmbulance for anyone who has actually been "emotionally wrecked" by this- if you can't laugh at yourself for 20-30 seconds twice a month, your problems run deeper than poor public speaking skills.
Kingsley quizzes on a regular basis- in our class, it was every Friday. The quizzes themselves are on readings from the textbook- usually 10-12 question quizzes. They aren't particularly difficult- a 70 or 80 is easily attainable on most of them from pure guesswork- but to get 100 on the quizzes the chapters do need to be thoroughly read. I actually found the SQ3R method Kingsley preaches worked well for this class- though to be honest I feel like it might have been a bit much work for 2 or 3 incorrect questions.
There is no extra credit, and a no-nonsense attendance policy, but if you are committed to a serious learning experience, rehearse your speeches and take notes, you will be just fine in this class. Highly recommended.

Dr. Kingsley is a wonderful professor. If you read the negative comments below this, you will note that the only (legitimate) complaints people have about him are that he tests every Friday, and he criticizes your speeches. I believe, and please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the point of learning how to give better speeches is..to learn how to give better speeches. How are you supposed to get better if you don't accept criticism, make the adjustments, and do better next time? As for the tests every Friday, I failed every one, but that would be because I never opened the book. If you do so, you will not fail. Easy as that. Take. This. Class.

Kingsley is very odd. Hes really weird and confusing at first. After awhile, you get used to his method and then can do very well. His friday tests are really hard and do require the chapter reading. He really knows how to give a good speech though, and if you want a challenge in ONLY your speaking, this is a great professor. He can be a little tough, but if you're a good speaker, you'll do fine. And his bark is worse than his bite.

Everyone please don't listen to every bad comment the only true thing is that he gives a chapter test every Friday. Kingsley is a real good guy... he's as funny as can be... he's hilarious. He's also up on current events, for an old man he acts like a young guy... the speeches are real fun too, and he dosen't yell at you, like some say down below in the negative comments. Just study the notes and the book and you will pass, guaranteed. Take it from me, if you want a little bit of a challenge and a funny professor, take him. I did am boy am I glad I did.

Dr. Kingsley is a breath of fresh air. Yes he is harsh, yes he can be scary, yes he may be nuts, but he is an excellent professor. This class is not a walk in the park, quizzes are every friday, no exceptions. That is the part where most everyone fails. You have to read every week. Period. The class is very structured and may feel overwhelming at times, but you just need to take it a day at a time. The speeches are on for the most part, interesting subjects. And it is easy to get an A or B if you are expressive. He likes when you yell, walk around and use your hands to illustrate what you are saying. If you make this impression on your first speech, you will be graded easier throughout the rest of the semester. The midterm and final are pretty challenging, but if you take his advice for studying, you will be fine. He makes you attend class, which I believe is good for freshmen, some of us need a kick in the ass to get out of bed. He however, is not very understanding, and I would say that it is not best to have to talk to him on a personal level. He is fair in that aspect. If you miss a speech he will try to fit you in, but basically if you can't its your fault. He's hoping to teach you a lesson. All in all, I learned how to be a speaker in this class, which is a very important skill to have in life. I would recommend Kinglsey because honestly, it will make all of your other class seem easy.

I enjoyed his class. First of all do not believe the hype that goes along with the name Kingsley. You will become a better speaker because of his class. The quizzes and exams are not a challenge if you read the material. His criticisms aren't that bad if you listen and do what the assignment calls for. This is real life people and if he doesn't criticize you in class someone will in the real world. I would take him again because he keeps the class interesting.

I had this man as a first semester freshman, and he scared the hell out of me the first day. But as the class went on I came to find he was one of the best professors I've had here. He tells stories almost every class and curses like a sailor. Having him in the morning was great. I was never bored except on the days when other people gave their speeches. To pass his class, you HAVE to come, you HAVE to be prepared for the speeches and as for the quizzes, well, I failed about everyone one of them, but I did really well on my speeches so I came out with a B. You have to get on this man's good side, or you will hate the class. Be on time, do your work and do it right and the class will be a breeze. He will criticize you after every speech in front of the whole class but if you fix it for the next speech, you'll get an excellent grade. We were always laughing at this guy because he's humorous but you have to get his humor.. You will learn a lot in this class and you will definitely be a better speaker when you are through.

First of all, Professor Kingsley is really not as bad as everyone says. He is really funny and crazy the entire class. It goes like this: 1. You will take a quiz every friday like it or not, so dont drink too much on thirsty thursdays. 2. You will have many speeches to give to the class, followed by kingsley giving some constructive criticism. Like it or not, he will rip you a new one if you are unprepared. So, make a good outline and practice your speech many times, at least 20 times the whole way through. 3. Take everything that he says is wrong with your speech and fix it for the next one. You will definitely be a better speaker if you finish the class. 4. Read the chapters not only for the weekly quizzes but also for the final. It helps if you highlight things and read the highlighted material for the final. Most people hate this professor, but they only do because they didnt put forth the effort that it takes to get a good grade from this man. He is a good prof and if you go to class and do show up on the days you present, you will pass...Good Luck.

Kingsley, Kingsley, Kingsley. Everybody moans and groans in response to his name and says how horrible he is at professing. Most of the course consists of students giving speeches. After each speech, Kingsley criticizes each student on their performance. If the speech sucked, he says it sucked. His criticism is always constructive and never baseless. If you can't handle criticism of any sort or expect to half-ass your way through the course, don't take him. There is a 10-11 question quiz every Friday on a chapter of the book. The material coincides with what we're doing in class, mostly. If you don't read the book, it's on you. There's no way you can read the chapter and still fail the quiz because the questions are mostly common sense. This is a speech course. If you do the work, you get the grade. If you're lazy, you fail. That's all there is to it. The grade is entirely on you, not on him. I learned a lot from this course and am now a better public speaker because of the skills I picked up along the way.

If you really wanna be challanged I suggest you take him. This is not an easy grade and Kingsley makes you work for what you get. Pay attention to his lectures... There arent many of them. He basically tells you EXACTLY what he expects of your speeches and so forth. Yes he behaves a lil crazy but it can be refreshing.

This professor tells you straight out that hes not liked. But I thought he was great. He was entertaining at 8:00 in the morning although sometimes the noises he makes are annoying. But when it came to teaching he was very effective. Whenever I gave a speech, he always gave the positive and negative comments and even though I didnt like the negative comments.. they were true. The only bad thing about his class were the weekly quizzes. They were out of the book and multiple choice and hard as sh*t. I would definitely recommend him though if you dont like giving speeches because you get better at it after his class.

The speeches are so easy, as long as you prepare a good outline, your good to go. All i heard about this prof before i took him is that he was mean and unforgievn when he made fun of you after your speech. The things he said to me after my speech were hilarious.  Take this guy!The classes are really easy because all you do is listen to people do speeches. There is a 10 question multiple choice test every fri on a chapter in the book. If you read the summary of the chapter you will do fine. THere are no time limits for speeches and if you are at the begining of the alphabet you pretty much get an A no matter what. When you do your outlines for the speeches do what he says and you will do fine. If you can handle constrctive criticism which he really doesn't act like an ASS, take this guy!

Dr. Kingsley.... everyone groans in response. The man knows his stuff. READ the chapters and chapter summaries before Friday quizzes, actually put forth the effort into researching for and practicing your speeches, and the class is passable. Brace yourself for criticism, and if you are at the latter end of the alphabet, learn from the mistakes of those before you. The midterm and final are LONG and very much as tricky as the quizzes, so STUDY for them!

Dr. Kingsley humored me from the day I showed up to class. He's such a damn character. I could not stop laughing at his creative stories that helped him teach the curriculum, such as the famous story of the farmer going to milke his cow and it ends up being a bull. His constructive criticism is never bullshit. He tells you the truth. If you say "like" in a speech 400 times he lets you know about it. Mainly because it sounds STUPID. Do not harp on his "singling out" during class. Why would he criticize someone else for YOUR speech? I reccommend this class.

Dr. Kingsley is a very intimidating professor, but also very effective. He makes what would normally be a very boring class pretty funny with his comments and actions. I learned to appreciate him at the end of the semister, though I hated him at first. Quizzes are hard, one every friday, but doesnt grade speeches to harshly...i would reccommend him if you can handle some constructive criticism.

Sure he is funny but he doesn't care about his students. I have an accent and English is not my first language which makes it very hard for me to do what he wants. I am trying my best with the articulation but he just doesn't care. I can't speak English like It was my first language, I just cant. Someone needs to do something. I don't want to have to retake this class and because of him my GPA is going to drop so bad. People stay away from him.

If you are a Freshman reading this because you've seen on your schedule that you have Dr. Kingsley for Intro to Human Comm, go right now and figure out how to get out of his class and switch to another professor. If you've heard the stories from friends about him and are taking him anyway, stop being an idiot and figure out how to get out of his class and switch to another professor. This guy is the worst. For starters he is like 85, and that does factor in to how teaches, because he's quite rigid. He's an old man and he isn't going to change the way he does things, so if you can't get out of his class, godspeed. He is crazy to say the least, were he 20 years younger I'd assume clinically so, but I'll chalk most of his insanity up to his advanced age. He wants you to do the speeches in a very specific way, and he is very unforgiving. If you go up there twiddle your thumbs, stutter or not look at the class enough, he's going to let you know, and it will be awful. For me the actual speaking bit wasn't such a problem, it was his exams that landed me a C. 90 minutes of 100's of multiple choice questions. Doing well on the speeches will not suffice if you want to pass his class, you have to read the textbook, that is what he makes the midterm and final off of. The actual content of the class itself is not very hard, but Kingsley goes to exceptional lengths to make it harder than it has to be. I know of at least 3 people from my class that failed, and in my class I had 2 people re-taking his class as result of failing it the year before. If you're coming in to this course thinking Intro to Human Comm is going to be like some kind of elective you can half ass, well get ready because Kingsley's class is going to take up way more of your time and energy than you think.

Going to this class everyday made me want to die. I will admit he had good days where he was funny and cool, but most days he was just a weird, mean old man. You have weekly quizzes, but he never teaches the subjects of them. You have to read the chapters and try and figure it out by yourself. You also give a lot of presentations, and you don't have much time between them. He doesn't outline what he wants from you from these presentations very well either. He is not lenient on anything, which I admire, but if you aren't someone who can deal with this I wouldn't take his class.

First off, Do Not Take this class with Kingsley. He is well over the due date for retirement. Now his assignments are not so bad. With preparation, you should be fine. That's an understatement. Your speeches need to be perfect...He'll get you for the most minor things. It's either his way or the highway. Apparently there's only one way to do certain things in life. . The manner in which he grades you is completely out of line. During your speech, which you're nervous for already, he will sometimes snicker to himself because you messed up.It often reminds me of Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars (he also looks like him too). Not only does this make me angry (I'm using kind words here), but it goes to show he has no sympathy for mistakes. After the speech is when it gets better. He slowly walks up to the front of the class room. I humor myself, pretending he's wearing Emperor Palpatine's robes. He turns around and gives a menacing laugh, indicating you did terrible. Granted you did well, he probably wouldn't do that. All of the cons he gives about your speech outweighs what he says about what you do good about your speech. And the worst part is... He does this in front of the whole class. He makes you feel like...Again, I can't say. Instead of tearing you apart in front of the whole class, he should give you "critiques" in private. That is all.

Okay, so there was this girl giving a speech and she said she felt sick, but that didn't matter to him. He didn't even care, and then she passed out, hit her head on the floor. He didn't care then either and then he says "well maybe I should call someone" and then told the girl he would email what was wrong with her speech. Seriously? This guy really has no feelings at all and if you don't like speeches, then don't take him. Take any other human communications class because they don't have the stupid and pointless speeches like he does. And if you have no other choice, good luck! You'll need it, I'm not kidding.

He thinks he's really funny, and he's not at all. Don't take him if you have feelings because when he criticizes your speech, and its not good, he'll make you want to cry. All this class is is speeches not like the other human communications classes. So if you don't like speeches either, don't take this one. You're going to have speeches in all of your classes, but not any like his. He's just plain rude, to put it nicely. If you don't have to take him, then don't.  Kingsley grades so hard and is very critical of your work. He makes little to no sense most of the time and piles on the work all at once. His office hours are at the most inconvenient times. Make sure your work is done on time and you have thoroughly practiced speeches. Otherwise, he is very entertaining character wise, but comes off a tad creepy due to his apparent obsession with relating everything to sex.

At first this man may seen like a cool and funny guy, however never judge a book by its cover. I had this ***hole and at first this guy seemed like at cool guy, he joked during class and all of that. However I had him for a spring semester and we had some snow. Every High school district in the area of shippensburg University was closed But Shippensburg was not. However me being a commuter opted to stay home for safety reasons because the roads weren't that great. I e-mailed my professors like a good student should do, and all of my professors seemed to understand except this guy. He figured that if he could get to the University just fine then everyone could get to the University just fine. He seemed to not care about my safety and more about my attendance in his class. So, if you are a commuter student and the roads aren't very good and if the University says open don't expect any sympathy from this guy. So don't take him if you can help it. Save yourself the @&!($# that is Dr. Kingsley.

He never teaches a single thing, you better buy the textbook because every exam and quiz question is from the book, even though the book is never even addressed in class. He never gives advice or explains how to give speeches but enjoys making an ass of you after you give yours. Final was 25 pages long. If you get the misfortune of having him id really try to get out.

So I had him my first semester in my freshman year and had no choice. He teachs you how to do a good speech but the speeches are the less amount of points in his class, which stinks. The most points are all his quizzes and tests. So these quizzes are so hard you would have to memorize each word of the book, and the mid-term was 100 multiple choice questions and the final was 250. Yeah it was so hard in his class. You're lucky if you got a B. I advise anyone to NOT take him as a teacher!!! One of the hardest and worst...

If you have the opportunity to take another professor, DO IT. this man is a terrible person and and even worse professor. I had him at 9 in the morning and it was a struggle forcing myself to go to class but if you miss over 2 times your grade is lowered a letter grade and every time after. You have to take a quiz every friday on like 75 pages of reading and there is only 10 questions on the quiz and he gives you 5 minutes. Every answer sounds like the correct answer, even if you've read the text. The mid term and final are on aprox. 5 chapters each and there's only 50 questions on the exam. He makes you do 4 speeches and after each one he rips you apart with everything wrong and pretty much embarrasses you in front of the class. The last 2 speeches you have to do without an outline and requires a lot of information. Although if you sound enthusiastic he will give you a decent grade. When doing lectures he talks about experiences for over half the time and always makes weird scary gestures and voices that aren't even cute. Also, if you have to miss a Friday for any reason and want to make up the quiz he makes you come at 7am because he is so old and senile and won't change his ways. Basically he's too old to be teaching and should retire but if you're stuck with him, good luck!

His 10 question quizzes are annoying on every friday and they are just about impossible... good luck... and don't bother to study for them, it does not help. He purposely makes every available answer seem like the correct choice, but in fact it is prolly wrong. Good lord, and good luck with your speeches, they are about topics you will know nothing about, then he expects you to speak in front of the class without being nervous... HA! thats funny!  Kingsley is insane. For starters hes a cross between the drill sergeant from Full Metal Jacket and the Cryptkeeper. The guy clearly does not want to accept the fact that WWII has been over for 60 years. Between him constantly talking about the war and some random survey that a guy did about beastiality, its hard to believe you actually learn something from this guy. His method of grading speeches can be harsh, but you quickly learn what you have to do in order to get a good grade. The primary reason I recommend not taking him is because of his weekly Friday tests. He asks you 11 questions from a chapter in the text (typically 25 pages) and expects you to know the most obscure information. It is impossible to get a good grade on these tests. They will bring you grade down at least one whole letter.

This class is ridiculous. You talk to anyone else that has a different BOC teacher, they likely have some chinese lady that hardly speaks english. Kingsley is not fit to teach a speech class. Mainly, because he wears a hearing aid. He'll tell you your articulation was blurred, blah, blah, blah. You know what I say to that: turn up your hearing aid old man. He's pretty harsh on his comments after speeches, and hes definitly sexist. Girls do not do well with Kingsley. Sorry ladies you're going to have to work a whole lot harder with this crazy old man. His lectures aren't too bad, but they're mainly pointless, if they arent telling you about your speeches. He only lectures to make sure he can keep you there till the very last minute. Best believe Kingsley would have to be dying to let you out of class early, or EVER cancel a class. Incoming freshman that get stuck with him, good luck, this is the worst 8am experience you'll ever have!

Kingsley's class can be very stressful at times and is a perfectionist. He's not very fair with how he grades speeches and outlines. He tells you how to give speeches, but he's the main reason people screw up with their speeches. You're trying to make it perfect and if you slip up even once he's going to point it out in front of the whole class. If he didn't tell eveyone what was wrong with your speech then I think it wouldn't make people as nervous to give one. Also, he talks about good listening skills in his class yet he'll laugh during your speech if you screw up, which makes you do even worse. The text quizes are pointless if you ask me. I suppose we paid $3,000 a semester for this guy to have us teach ourselves BOC from the book and laugh during your speech if you screw up. The only thing thats good about the class is that he is a funny guy. At first I thought his class wasn't so bad, but the retarded text quizes and his counterproductive criticizing ruins the class. Even when I did the SQ3R (Survey Question Read Recite Review) of the text I still got a sh*tty grade. I would rather take a 70 and spend 10 minutes skimming over the pages that get an 80 and spend 2 hours or more reading. Nothing will change though because he's too stubborn and has been teaching this way for so many years. Good luck.

If you're smart, you will listen to what everyone is saying about this crazy man. He feeds off of these comments which he knows are right. He just tries to make up for them in class by bringing them up constantly. He’s obnoxious, utterly rude, and his comments don't help you but just make you look like a fool in front of all your classmates. Reading for his quizzes are pointless because he picks questions that are least expected. He laughs at your mistakes when you're delivering a speech which messes you up even more. Prepare to be creative... he expects a "motivational subterfuge" for every speech (you relate your speech to something exciting before presenting your topic). This man is so dramatic, and he acts out everything he says... with annoying voices and goofy actions. I definitely feel bad for the 8 o'clock class. He expects a lot out of you. On your speech day, pray that nothing comes up because if you miss it, you will receive a zero. His response is, well what if the president was sick, he would still have to deliver his speech now wouldn't he. uhhh... the last time I checked, this was just a gen ed class. Save yourself the time and embarrassment and find any way possible to not have this man!

kingsley needs to retire. that's all there is to it. i believe he may have, at one point in his probably 50+ year teaching career, been comprehendable. he's just too freakin old and senile to make any sense. all he did was read from some papers he had and wrote terms on the board he expected us to memorize for the exam. if he went too fast in the lecture and we asked him to repeat or slow down, he'd get all pissy and tell us to shut the hell up... oh and don't believe a word he says on the syllabus. the man can't do math and goes back and forth on what he says will be the law of the land in his class. he reads this stuff on shipunderground and feeds off it. he knows people hate him and that's what gives him fire. he's also tenure so doesn't have to do the class eval at the end of the semester. tenure is what brings this school down...as soon as the profs make tenure, they turn shitty. my suggestion....shoot yourself before venturing into the world of kingsley.

Don't take him, DO NOT! You will never pass if you do. He grades harsh on speeches and his quizzes are impossible. What he makes you read isn't even on the quizzes. I would never want to have him again. I would die before that would ever happen again. After the speeches he likes to comment on your speech, and he can really rip you a new asshole. He isn't equal or fair about grading. If you are in the beginning of the alphabet, you are lucky...but if you are in the end, prepare to be enilidated.YOU do not want him. You will not like it, and the only time you might enjoy it is when he cracks a preverted joke like he always does. Take my advice, you don't want to take a class that you put a lot of effort in and still fail it. TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER. It will save your life.

It is totally unnecessary to go to a class where the teacher is demeaning to students in his choice of words. We are supposed to be learning about how to communicate. I learned more on how not to communicate with his uncalled for remarks in class. Yes, his quizzes are impossible--memorize every word from the book. His final was a nightmare. 180+ multiple choice questions. I was never so happy to just turn it in. By the time I was finished, I didn't care about the grade. In my career as a student at SHIP, this was my first B. If you can, take this pass/fail and take the pressure off.

In Dr. Kingsleys BOC classes, it doesn't matter if you are a great speaker you still may not do well in the class. There is a midterm and a final, and also a quiz every single week of class that are freakin impossible. He made it interesting, i guess i'm a little bitter cause i got a 79.6 and he wouldn't give me a B. Hey, i guess that shows that you have to earn everything you have to to make the grade.

Kingsley is very confusing when he is trying to tell you what to do... if he even tells you at all, you basically have to figure everything out for yourself based off the syllabus. The weekly Friday tests are very difficult even if you did study. You have to completely memorize your speeches which is very nerve-wracking. He is a very tough grader. He makes class fun, but his class is very difficult. He does take attendance and after the first couple weeks of class the rest of the semester is people giving speeches which for me it was hard to want to go to class if I wasn't giving my speech. There are better teachers for this gen ed. I would not recommend Kingsley unless you really wanna push yourself.

I see that a lot of people have given Kingsley some bad comments, but don't believe everything you read. I had some doubts about him before taking his class, but he ended up being really helping with the public speaking part of the class. His tests are a BITCH, and he doesn't review any notes in class, so prepare to do bad on those. I found that I got better grades when I'd skim through the chapter the morning of the quiz than when I actually studied and highlighted things in the textbook. As for the speeches, be prepared for his comments. He's only going to tell you the TRUTH. If you don't practice, you're going to do a really sh*tty job. TAKE HIS ADVICE and try to fix/avoid doing what he points out and you'll do just fine. He's a bit of a wackjob and ends up rambling and telling random stories, but he's really helpful when it comes to advice for public speaking.

Honestly, I entered this class and the first few days all I wanted to do was drop the course and take someone real easy. Sure, I only got a B+ and I wanted an A, but I learned a lot more from Kingsley than any other professor yet. He's hard and WILL tell you exactly what you did wrong on a speech, and he's not going to sugar coat it like your mommy would. But you know what.. grow a back bone, take his criticism, and learn from it. If you take his comments seriously and fix your speeches to what he says is wrong with them, you're going to become a very good speaker. If you want a class you can breeze by in and pull a really easy A, don't take this course. But, if you want a challenge and actually get something from all that money you spend at college, take Dr. Kingsley. You won't regret it if you actually put time and effort in!

Kinglsey in my opinion was the funniest old man alive haha... He always smelled like coffee but he was very theatrical. His tests-don't bother studying... everyone fails them!! I think I passed 5 of all of them but as long as you get A's and B's on Speeches you should do fine! He critiques your speeches in front of the class... it can be embarrassing. Everyone is sooo confused on his assignments and he grades his outlines hardcore! He always scared the CRAP out of me but I always looked forward to his class. He was very entertaining and kept your attention and I learned a lot!!! But if you want to be a good speaker and if you're not scared of a hard class TAKE HIM!

Kingsley is definitely a little off the wall not gonna lie haha... and the first day of class I was late so he had it out for me since he made me sit in the very front as my permanent seat and I thought I was going to hateeee him. It does suck because I had an 8 am mwf but he definitely woke me up. Every friday you take a quiz on a chapter and the answers are all in the book you just have to study to pass it for sure. We wrote about 4-5 speeches which is hard at first but he criticizes to help you learn and I went from getting C's to B's and A's. The midterm and final are probably the hardest thing and gave me my C. And he takes attendance but doesn't have a policy about it really. If you study for his quizzes and have good speaking ability you can pass for sure.

I had Kingsley as my first professor and first class at Shippensburg, it was a disaster. Dr. Kingsley cackled at me during my speeches making me so angry I wanted to just walk out. Yes, there are quizzes every Friday. If you don't read the text you will fail them. Even if you read the text, it'll be difficult. Kingsley has a learning style that I couldn't connect with and never could hence why I did so terrible in his class. He's a strange soul and I'm not sure how to explain him. Either way, I found Kingsley to be a bit ridiculous for intro to human communications. Every class has their difficulties but this one tops them all. I do not suggest taking Kingsley unless you are over the top dedicated to it. Oh yeah, there is no way around attendance. I did not miss any classes the entire semester and one Friday morning I was 20 mins late. I explained my situation to Kingsley and he wouldn't let me make up the quiz. I don't hate the guy as a person but I do not like him as a professor. I hope this was helpful! Fool with Kingsley at your own risk.

I had Dr. Kingsley for BOC. It's not the best class there is but everyone has to take it so you need to get over it. Dr. Kingsley's class wasn't a piece a cake and it wasn't the class from hell either. The purpose of the class is to improve your speech skills. You make about four speeches in the course. Throughout the course they get progressively harder and are worth more. The first speech that you give you will be able to have an outline to help you guide you through your speech but DO NOT READ DIRECTLY FROM IT! Then by the end of the course when you make your persuasive speech you will only rely on your memory. Don’t take the comments that he gives you to heart, they are not intended to upset you at all. The comments are for you to learn from, if you listen to them and improve then it helps you and your grade a lot. There are weekly tests on a chapter or two from the book. Read the chapter(s) that you will be tested on. These tests are an easy way to help your grade. Also they help you for the Mid-Term. You are allowed three unexcused absents, I had the class at 9:00am and yea it was hard to get up for but you’re basically getting a grade to go to class and listen to other’s speeches. If you get involved and ask him questions and give your thoughts on what he is speaking about it makes the class better and will get you a better grade.

(at least on some people he was). and the notes he gives in class are completely pointless and have nothing to do with what you will be tested on for the midterm and final.

If you don't really care how hard he is and figure that you will do well in his class no matter what take him, he is fairly funny. Also people always say that he critizes a lot, which he does, but as long as you have grown up enough to be able to laugh at yourself you will be fine. He also has this habit of critizing a person say for looking at the black board while they are drawling on it for their chalk talk and then he goes and does the same thing and also the ummmmmmmms will kill you from him.

Very closeminded when it comes to students he remotely dislikes..speeches are horrible if you're terrified of speaking in front of a group, and ultimately makes it impossible to get a decent grade. Very funny, however, and never misses a chance to make a complete a** out of himself. I guess you have to take the class yourself to decide whether or not you like him.

He does critique you after your speeches but its really not that bad, he always starts off by telling you the good aspects and then moves on to what you need to improve, he gives you suggestions rather then insults. Overall, i really didn't see the big deal with taking Dr. Kingsley. Just read all the chapters and practice your speeches and you'll be fine!!

He gives weekly quizzes (multiple choice) which are very, very hard even if you read the material the night before. Midterms and finals come right from the text book, but you really need to study for them - they are not easy. Overall, he is tough... but I'm glad I had him as a professor.
