This class was pretty good. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he doesn't announce little in-class activities. Sometimes for showing up, he gives the whole class a couple of bonus points. You do have to pay attention, take your notes, and study for the tests. If you give it some effort you should at least get a B-. He is also very helpful out of class. I went to him to see my test scores and he went on this little ramble of how I could improve my scores. Very helpful!

Read the book and take notes in class. If you do this, there is no reason to not get an A in this class. Plain and simple. He is a great professor, and if you're like me and tired of hearing all the liberals at this college, then he's a definitely good pick with him being moderately conservative. Hands down to Dr. Austin!

Tom Austin is an awesome prof. I had him for intro. to crim. justice when I was a crim. justice major, and class is never a dull moment for him. If you don't have a sense of humor, then you may not want to take him because he's pretty funny at times. When it comes down to business though, he is a very effective teacher and will let you know everything you need to know. His tests are a little challenging, so make sure you study. Other than that, I highly recommend him!

Ya he may be a bit weird but he is a really nice guy. His class is easy and he gives you the essay questions for his tests. It is also really easy to get a good grade if you just kiss ass a little. You should take him for intro.

The class moves because he is constantly moving - a very good thing. Nice guy but gets pissed when nobody in class remembers something we talked about two weeks ago. Needs to stop saying he can't believe we don't remember something. But, I would take him again and again. He's smart and funny and it's a great atmosphere overall.

I really enjoyed Prof, Austin's class. The material can be hard but if you take the time to read the text you'll be okay. Buy the workbook, half the questions on the exams are from the practice quizzes in workbook. The tests are a little hard if youre not prepared. 50 multiple choice and 2 essays. The class before the exam, he'll give you the 6 possible essays that might be on the exam. IF YOU CAN TAKE HIM, YOU REALLY LEARN ALOT!!!!!!!!!!

OK, so Dr. Austin is a little strange and random and gets off topic at times, but he's such a nice guy. The text is really easy to understand and there are almost interesting things to read. He tries to spice up his lectures a little by using articles and multi-media presentations which is always nice. But for the love of god, that man does not know how to use a computer. It's ok though b/c the class laughs at him and he knows it, so it's all good. He'll answer all your questions that you have and I'm sure he's always in his office. The only thing that bugged me about him was that he likes to have the class finish his sentences for him....you'll see when you get there. But other than, he's cool. Oh and get to class early if you can...he literally walks in the door lecturing. 3 tests and a final (open note, optional for seniors....). He has you watch these 60 Minutes videos which are actually really interesting and then you do discussion questions. As long as you write something half intelligent, he loves it. Tests are a bit tricky, know the Amendments, but essays are cake. If I ever take another CrimJ class, I'll def try to get Austin.

Dr. Austin is a solid guy all around. His Intro to Criminal Justice class was awesome. He'll pretty much tell you what he wants on his tests, and during class he'll make things interesting. For each topic, he'll always give you an example to give you a better idea. He's really a great guy, and really easy to get along with. His tests aren't hard, as he tells you what's mostly on them, but reading over the book the night before will be helpful. Overall, he's been my favorite professor so far and I'd take him again in a heartbeat. Great class, even better guy.

Dr. Austin is a nice guy if you do your reading and show up to class. I got to class early everytime b/c I had a class before that, so he thought I was the best student in the world..it pays to get on his good side...he's kinda wacky sometimes, esp. when he's describing sexual relations in prisons...anyways, his tests aren't that hard...just make sure you study...read over the chaps the night before, and take the practice test if there is one! w/the book that we had, there was a practice book w/tests in it...he took about 10 questions right from that...sometimes he gives you the essays before the test, but even if he doesn't, it's pretty easy figure out what will be on them...kinda wacky, but all in all, a pretty nice guy...take him!

Dr. Austin tries to make the class interactive by having you finish just about every sentence for him. He gives plenty of in class assignments to bring up your grade. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you miss an assingment thats to bad. He tries his best to make the class interesting and fun, but does not always succeed.

Dr. Austin is a nice enough guy but hes not the best teacher in the world. He wnats you to do well if you show up for class and do your work, so he is willing to help but the class is not easy. He is scatterbrained, he jumps from one thing to another and it is hard to follow and take notes. He will tell you what you should look at for tests, and then the tests are on a bunch of information he didnt tell you about, stuff in the book. The tests are not very easy really. The essays are if you know the info but the multiple choice questions seem like trick question half the time. Its also hard to stay awake cuase it gets pretty boring. Overall, its not too bad but just watch out for those things. if you do your work and study you will be fine and get a good grade. The final in NOT cumulative which is good too.

He doesn't really teach and the class is very boring. The tests are not that hard if you do a little studying. NO papers, 3 tests and a take home exam.

he is a nice guy and all but he goes round and round when teaching the class. it took him 2 days to explain the definition of crime. thats a little ridiculous. as for the tests, they aren't that bad if you study. []
