I read Dr. Koscianski's comments before taking her class, so I was a little bit worried going in. But honestly, the negative comments were mostly off base. First of all, she is a really nice lady. And yes, she only gives 3 multiple choice tests that make up your entire grade, but she gives you everything you need to know in class. Don't buy the book, I never even opened mine. Her tests come directly from her notes, which she hand writes on the projector for you, so it's impossible for you to miss anything unless you are asleep. She waits until everyone is caught up before moving on, answers any questions you might have about the topic, and gives current real world examples. She also gives a study guide before exams. If you go to class and copy her notes, you should be fine.

Dr. Koscianski is a great professor. She makes the material easy to understand and does not move on until everyone understands. You can tell she truly cares about her students and wants them to do well. Her tests were not bad either. If you really review your notes and do the practice problems in the book, I really don't understand how you can fail. She tells you exactly which practice problems to do in the back, which look VERY similar to her problems on the exam. Sure there are only 3 exams, but like I said they are NOT hard to pass with a little bit of effort.

I don't understand why Dr. K has so many negative comments, I thought her class was easy and informative. Yea, the whole class is based off 3 - 40 question tests, but they were all easy. She moves slow and expresses ideas in real life situations. Econ isn't the easiest subject but I think she did a great job teaching it. I hate when kids give bad reviews for profs just because they didn't study enough for their exams.

She is very down to earth, nice, and understanding. She teaches at a good pace and always checks to make sure everyone is with her before moving on. She is extremely helpful if you don't understand something, and she gives lots of real-world examples which help make the material understandable. I learned a lot from her and would take another one of her classes any day.

She is a great teacher to take. It's just that Economics isn't an easy class and it's a hard concept to grasp. I had Dr. Lee for the first half of the semester (he was really bad) so it hard to adjust into a different teaching style. She did very well and her classes are easy. I would recommend taking her.

Janet was great. Econ is not easy at all but she had a weird way of making it easy to understand. We had Finucane for about half the semester and I really didn't understand anything then. Then Janet came back and it was like magic...things just made sense. Tests are multiple choice, she gives "sample tests"...but they are not exactly like the exams, just mostly the same concepts. She also curves a bunch if the exams aren't so good. People actually failed miserably??? Well...if you go to class and study before the test you should have to trouble getting an A or B. Thanks Janet!!

I don't know what all the whining is about with the negative comments. She wasn't THAT bad. She is much better than Dr. Lee who was substituting for her at the beginning of the year. Maybe that is why she seems like such a good teacher. All you must do is go to class, take notes, and don't be LAZY and wake up late for a TEST DAY!!! She doesn't take attendance so it's not a big deal if you miss a class here or there. The teachers are not your mothers so they are not expected to aid to your every need.

Dr. Koscianski is everything you want in a professor. Has a good personality, teaches the material very well, and the tests aren't bad at all. Tests comes from the notes, which she writes on the blackboard/overhead. Have to write a couple of papers, but they're nothing too challenging. Very nice lady, very good professor.

Ok Dr. Koscianski is one of the best Econ professors here at ship. She is eager to help at any time and she will stop at any time in class if there is something you don't understand. She wants her students to do well and loves when you ask questions in class or even during her office hours. She does NOT go fast - I thought she went rather slow - but a good slow. And yes you do take notes but hey this is college, what do you expect? Now, for her tests. They are soooo easy. There is NO reason anyone should get below a B - yet people actually failed miserably!? - those are the students that are wasting their parents money and are here to party instead of being here for an education. Ok, I think I've said enough. If you are a decent student and you can pay attention in class you'll do great! Good luck!! :)

Dr. Koscianski rules! She is very friendly and is always around to help. Her exams were multiple choice and come right from class lectures and the text. Her lectures also comes right from the text. If you take notes, and read along with the book, you'll have no problem getting a B or higher.

Five point evaluation for Dr. Kosianski as follows:
-Only teaches 8 & 9 am classes
-Sole method of teaching is writing on an overhead projector.... :O
-Three tests make up your grade.
-300 points total.
-Likes to use trick questions.
Frankly, you probably wouldn't fare any worse with Dr. Bastin.... and that should tell you something. :)

She doesn't know how to teach and with only 3 tests with 40 questions each you really can't mess up or you're screwed. There are 300 points total for her class so each test question is worth 2.5 points. It's an extremely difficult class for just being a gen ed.

HATE THIS CLASS. Not only was there only 3 (!) tests - all multiple choice with trick answers - but she does not allow any other assignments. Doesnt answer questions, no study guides or exam help and you write for days on end in class. Didn't even care when half of us failed our first exam... DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF UNLESS YOU WANT TO FAIL. Half of my class just wanted to shove the projector somewhere.

I'm a good student. I had a 3.6 GPA last semester. This semester, it won't be anywhere near that because I'll be getting a C in this class. Kosckianski is a terrible teacher because she bases the entire class on 3 exam grades. The multiple choice questions are tricky so she makes sure you get them wrong. She has to curve every exam FIVE points so everybody won't fail and she'll look bad. God forbid she lift a finger to actually grade something besides the scantrons she puts through a machine. No extra credit, homework points, or attendance points. Don't expect her to be forgiving of anything, even if you go to the Learning Center and even her office hours for help. I encourage you to take her if you're a bad student and you want to retake a class. And I encourage you to take her if you're a good student and you really want to bring your GPA down.

Dr. Koscianski is not a personable lady. She walks into class every morning and turns on her overhead projector without ever saying good morning/afternoon. She has like 8 thousand PhDs in different areas of Econ, so she may be smart, but she's not a good professor. You take notes from overheads everyday, have 3 exams, and that's it. So if you mess up on the exams, you're screwed. For your own sanity (and to save your hand a lot of cramping from writing so much), don't take her.

The first few weeks of this course lead you to believe it will be easy. Then the 2nd test comes and you WILL do bad. In my class, half the people got below 40%, yes FORTY percent. She will walk around the room while lecturing and see how many people have used books (she wrote it) and that makes her mad. Classes are dry and she teaches as if she is talking to herself, doesnt teach to the students. AVOID HER!!

Do not take this professor if you do not own at least 3 alarm clocks. My alarm clock malfunctioned on an exam (33% of class grade) day, and even though it was not the original exam day(since she had rescheduled it), she would not allow a makeup(even with a major point reduction). Thus after having a 97.5% on the other 2 exams I ended up with a D in the class. What a waste of time...

At first she seems nice and her class doesn't seem too bad...But then, she becomes a huge asshole and her class is so hard. I would rather cut my foot off than take her class again. P.S.- Don't buy the book, you just write the whole damn thing while taking notes in class anyway!

Koscianski is the worst prof i've ever had. DO NOT take her class. First of all, you take so many damn notes in this class that you'll be walking out of class everyday with writers cramp. She moves so fast that you are constantly writing and dont have time to think about what you are taking down for notes. She writes everything on the overhead projector and you just have to sit there and copy everything she puts down. The only possible points in her class are from 3 tests, and dont expect any breaks from her because she will fail you even if you are 1 point away from a D. She doesn't give a damn about the students, all she cares about is getting her money from her books. She never put a buy back order in at the book store so you'll be wasting $100 on her book. She does this because she wrote the book and she doesn't want students to be able to buy used ones, she wants everyone to have to buy them new every semester so she makes more money from it. If you do end up taking her get the book from someone that had it the semester before, but stay away from her if possible.

This woman can be a b*tch. She uses her own book and thinks everyone should be able to do everything she can do. Tests are very difficult. She lets you think she's nice, but she can be a meaner than a junkyard dog. Don't miss a test, even if you're dying.

Dr. Koscianski's class was boring but not dreadful. I enjoyed her stories and she explained ideas well. I did not like that our grade was based on three tests that were all difficult. She always answered every question the best she could. I would suggest taking her if you are a good test taker, otherwise it will not be a easy A.

She is a pretty good prof I suppose, she writes out all her notes and all you do is copy. She does explain things very well, but make sure you study a LOT for her tests. 40-50 questions, all multiple choice. She does curve a little, but there are no other grades besides 3 tests, so you HAVE to do well on them.

FAIR WARNING: Be prepared to write down the equivalent of an entire book during the course. You take notes from an overhead projector everyday and sometimes you use 3-4 pages per day. This makes no sense whatsoever because she co-wrote the textbook. When you have to copy down so many notes, its near impossible to try to comprehend what she is talking about. So I would recommend buying the book and study guide and taking very few notes, as what she writes down in class is basically straight from the book. Other than that, she is a nice person, although a bit irritating sometimes. She has these one liners that she can't go a class without saying like, "Through the magic of calculators." And she starts every class of by going, "Sooooooooooo" for what feels like 10 minutes. Even with all this I would still recommend her.
