Subject: The Best, but not easy  (Jan 20 2013, 09:40PM)

Dr Long is the best professor at Ship. His lectures and labs are always very interesting and he gives you tricks to memorizing position/function/name of an organ or structure. He is my advisor for a transfer program with TJU and he shows how much he goes out of his way to help people who appreciate him and what his class offers. Study hard though, his practicals and exams are long and tedious, but fair. He doesn't have anything on his exams that he "just mentioned once". Put the work in and you'll love and do well in his class.

Subject: You just need to study  (Oct 19 2010, 03:02AM)

Dr. Long is a nice guy, he is wanting and willing to help you with the material. Some of the stuff is a bit overwhelming and I felt like sometimes he went through it too fast. But if you study everything he gives you you will at least get a high B. I like the class because it feels like you know everything you need to study to do well. If you aren't a pre-med or nursing major you will probably shoot yourself for taking the course though.

Subject: Lots of Work!  (Oct 26 2009, 05:10PM)

Dr. Long's human anatomy course is really interesting. It's really cool to hear about all the ways your body develops and functions and the different ways things can go wrong in the process. On the other hand, the course is definitely a ton of work. It's so much memorization that you'll feel like your head is about to explode. Most of the stuff isn't hard and it's not really difficult to understand, there's just so much of it that you're head will be spinning by the time you're done studying. Be prepared to spend at least a couple hours outside of lab period to go to the lab room and study the models for the practicals. The class is totally passable and you can do well in it as long as you're prepared to dedicate a good bit of time to studying. But in the end, you'll definitely learn a lot and you'll most likely enjoy the material!

Subject: Great Professor  (Dec 05 2008, 09:10PM)

First off...be prepared to study your life away. The amount of material in anatomy is fairly intense, but it will prepare you for whatever you pursue. Students from Ship who went on to med school have all testified that Dr.Long's anatomy had prepared them better than most schools, including Penn State. Dr. Long makes class fun and always provides relevant examples. He can also be pretty funny sometimes and has me cracking up. Dr. Long will help you in any way he can and really cares about his students....while at ship...AND after. Overall, would recommend for any class he teaches based on what I had in anatomy. Great Professor.

I found this class to be very beneficial. I learned a lot and unlike my biology courses, I actually found myself WANTING to learn about the material and wanting to study it. It's a lot more fun when everything you learn about pertains to your own body. Dr. Long is a GREAT professor. He makes the class interesting and teaches the material in such a manner that makes you interested. I hope you're prepared to study - I studied more for this class than I did in all of HS, but, it's definitely worth it. Great class, great professor, but you have to work for it and be prepared to have no night life throughout the week. Lab is a good time too, sheep brains were never so interesting! :] PS: don't take chemistry at the same time... BIG NO-NO!

This class was extremely interesting and I learned a great deal of information. It was not easy, however, as there was a vast amount of information (both textual and visual) to memorize and understand. This class is not for the lazy or faint of heart, but with a lot of hard work, you can do well. Dr. Long is a good and fair teacher. He doesn't pull any punches and his exams are hard but reasonable. Just study the material and you'll do fine. A very good experience!

Dr. Long is the absolute best prof here. he knows what he is talking about and he relays the info to his students very well. He is very willing to help. now, lets be real....although is very nice he is very hard. must work on anatomy every night and go into the lab at least 3 times a week. so the work and it pays off. Take him.

Although there are tons of notes to take and you need to write at the speed of light, you will certainly learn the information. Study your notes for the tests. If you read the chapters you will be more prepared, but I would consider buying the book optional.

I had this prof for Human Anatomy, and man was it HARD! Memorization is not one of my best skills, so I did not do well. He explained everything in detail and was thorough in his lectures. His labs are tough too; again, TONS of memorization. Get together with a study group (something I failed to do) if you want a shot at a good grade. He goes fast in his lectures, so you may want to have a recorder and learn how to write fast; he doesn't post his notes on blackboard or anything. He's organized in his lessons. He's a good teacher, but prepared to do some hard work in the tough classes!
