Subject: Like a grandmother...  (Jan 24 2013, 05:28AM)

First off, the best thing I can say about Loveland is she's like your grandmother. She's the sweetest and cutest lady ever, and she's MORE than willing to help or just chat. She sometimes overshares or talks too much, but that's just one of her quirks that makes her cute. Besides that, she's very difficult with her grading and very particular with her terminology. Also, if you don't read you're screwed. Her short essays are pretty hard, so know what you're talking about. Go to class, pay attention and participate and you're way better off. Don't be afraid to chat with her or participate! She loves when students talk. :)

Dr. Loveland is an excellent professor. I did really poorly on the 1st exam and she was right there to give me extra help when I needed it. Her knowlege of the subject is excellent and now I go to her twice a week for extra help on the material and I just recently got an A on one of her quizzes. Her tests are a little tricky but if you study your notes you will be fun. She's a great professor that really cares about her students.

I love Dr. Loveland. She was by far the best professor I have had as of yet at Shippensburg University. Her enthusiasm of her subject along with first-hand knowledge makes it easy to listen to lecture in class. She posts weekly bonus questions on her website along with chapter study guides that are also useful. I do recommend coming to class and taking good notes. If you know your notes you're guaranteed a decent grade on your tests. A few quizzes were also given to boost grades (she drops the lowest score). I wouldn't change a thing about this prof or her class. If you have the opportunity to take her class - do it!

Dr. Loveland is one of the best professors I've had at SU. She gives written exams which some people don't like, but she's not anal about attendance as long as you get your work done.

I took Dr. Loveland for Anthropology for International Studies and Magic, Science, & Religion last semester. The first is required for IS minors and the second is an Anthro elective for Anthro minors. Dr. Loveland is one of the three professors at Ship who teach Anthro classes and is one of the two good ones (other great professor: James). Both classes had three tests, non-cumulative. All of her tests are essays. Sometimes she has terms to define too, which means you define it and give an example of the term. The essays are short, maybe .5-1.5 pages each. At first, she gave you a choice of 5 essays out of 9-12, but since some people failing the tests (she gives study guides, I don't know how people f*cked it up), she changed the format, gave us the questions ahead of time and chose the five we would do. The last tests were the original format though. I never read the books, except for when something that wasn't in my notes was listed on the study guide. Then I would only read that part in the book. Go to class so you can take the notes. She gave extra credit for being there the days before Thanksgiving Break. There is one paper, if you turn it in a week early, she'll tell you what changes to make to get an A. I thought the classes were totally easy. I got an A- in the Religion class because I f*cked up and didn't study for the first test. I totally recommend taking Dr. Loveland for any class.

Interesting class. Quizzes, exams, and one short paper assignment. The prof is a very very nice woman, pleasant and easy going. No group work. I was doing so well and got tired of reading the long chapters that i dropped the ball. Just keep up with the readings and notes and you'll do fine.

Dr. Loveland was the highlight of my day. Right over lunch hour she was still the most enjoyable prof. Always a smile on her face, she truly enjoys the material she teaches. She is truly interested in students, and cares about how well you do in her class. She gives you plenty of ways to contact her and get this, if she is going to cancel class for any reason she emails everyone and changes her voice mail to tell everyone that class is cancelled. NO hiking to the 4th floor only to find a note on the door. She really trys not to make class too boring, however it is a lot of note taking and lecturing. We had one short paper, and had to do a diagram of our family tree. I will admit tests are very hard. I mean you really have to study your ass off for them. She tries to have different methods of testing ie: some have true false, some have matching, fill in the blank, whatever but all tests included short answer and 1 essay with a choice from 4 or 5 different questions. Oh and she does drop your lowest quiz grade. Over all I highly recommend Dr. Loveland.

Dr. Loveland is the sweetest lady. She has a real interest in what she teaches. She writes the notes on the board verbatum. The tests come from the notes and supplementary reading. The tests are really hard though because you have to memorize all the information. Not to bad if you can study and or memorize. She doesn't take role but I'd strongly suggest going.

Dr. Loveland was a great professor. There were three quizzes and four tests. She drops the lowest quiz grade. The tests are exactly from the notes. You have to study them, but if you do, you pass with flying colors. She is extremely nice, and always lets you know if she might not be in her office at office hours. She'll even tell you if she'll be like 5 minutes late. She's a little kooky, but it makes her even more interesting. The class gets a little snoozy, but I had it early in the morning, so that's probably why. She tries her hardest to make it interesting, and she knows that most of her class aren't anthro majors. Two out of class assignments that were super-easy and really helped boost your grade. Take Her!! She's awesome!

Dr. Loveland can be summed up in one word: Outstanding! Always a smile on her face, teaches enthusiastically, and spells everything out on the board. If you have the option to take her--don't hesitate. Dr. Loveland posts review sheets on her website, spends a day before the exam reviewing, and is more than happy to have students drop by her office--she'll help you review! Take advantage of her weekly bonus point (on her website) and her great accessibility, and I'm sure anyone will do great. You'll want to do well w/ this prof :)

Dr. Loveland was the nicest professor ever. She gave a short paper and 3 exams (all non-comprehensive). She gave a few quizzes, also. Everything was right from the notes and she explained it really well. It's mostly memorization. I would definitely take her again.

Dr. Loveland is so nice and seems like she really wants to all do well, but that is not the case. Her exams are basically impossible, I never did so poorly in a class and I had to drop it so it would not ruin my GPA. The exams are all short answer and fill in the blank!! not fun!! And you have to know everything about it! I studied a lot but it was hard and I did not do well!! DO not take her!! No offense to her she is a great lady but gives impossible exams!

No denying she is a very sweet lady that loves what she teaches and yes it is interesting SOMETIMES but, it can get quite BORING for the most part. What turns me off the most however, is her tests and quizzes. I find them VERY difficult. She gives you words and you have to write in the definition all by yourself and she picks only some out of a lot of definitions so its hard to memorize allll of them with the hopes that she doesn't pick the ones that you have a hard time memorizing. I thought I even got some definitions before and she marked them wrong and looking back at my notes, it was exactly what was on her powerpoints. Apparently she liked the book definition better.

She is often inaccurate on up to date studies. Uses old science to explain phenomenon. Her exams and quizzes are ridiculous. They are all memorization. In other words, she has the term written on the exam and you are expected to write out exactly what her definition is. When you have sixty terms per exam and essay questions, this is difficult for an basic intro class. No multiple choice, no matching, no recognition questions. As far as what was learned in the class I give her an F. All I did was memorize parts for each exam then shovel it out of my mind. Strongly advise against taking her.

Dr. Loveland is obviously into what she teaches. As someone who didn't have a lot of Anthro background coming into the course, I got a lot of help from her to understand the material and get a good grade. The class was somewhat boring, but you also learn a lot.

Dr. Loveland is a very nice lady. She gave no homework or papers, which is good, although her tests were extremely tough. You must memorize all her notes exactly! You must memorize everything and study your ASS off for tests and quizzes! If you do that, you'll do well with her.
