His class is great, the information on your quizzes and tests comes right off his in class powerpoints. Take notes and you'll be set. He's not a particularly tough grader, very laid back guy. Honestly if you can't get at least a B in Geography 101 with Marr, then I would seriously doubt your ability to be a successful college student, how are there even 2 negative comments on here.

Ok, this class as got to be the shining light in my otherwise horrible schedule. Dr. Marr not only makes sure you understand the material, but he makes you laugh as well. He was one of the reasons for me becoming a GeoEnvironment major. As everyone else has said, his tests are very hard, but read the chapters and go over the notes, you'll be ok. Also not bad to look at : ] TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!

Dr. Marr is one of the best professors I have had here at Shippensburg. He is extremely knowledgeable about the subject area and has traveled all around the globe. If you want to learn something about geography, Marr is definitely the guy to take. He's full of funny stories about the places he has been and trivial facts that help keep the class moving. At the end of each section he brings in slides of photographs he has taken from his travels to put things that you have learned into view. The class itself wasn't necessarily difficult, just a little more work than expected. There are 9 10 point quizzes on countries which you can learn in one night and 10 very easy 20pt homework assignments that you can also do in one night. DO THESE TO KEEP YOUR GRADE UP! I did very well on his tests, although they were a little difficult and tricky, but I found that it was necessary to read the book in order to do so.

MARR is a great prof! There will be days where you must take a lot of notes, but there are days where he just tells stories of the places he has been with all these amazing slide shows to go along with them... an interesting class and def easy to get a good grade. Do all of the maps and 10 point assignments to boost your grade. You have to study for his tests... it is KEY to def go to class so you have notes to study from, but you learn a lot and he knows his stuff! If you do well on the tests, NO FINAL!! Hes a funny guy and def makes it interesting!

Dr. Marr is a good teacher. You have four tests in his class. They are hard, so make sure you study. You have an optional final. You have exercises to do (which only help your grade) and weekly quizzes(these are easy and only help your grade). He is very nice and easy to talk to. You take notes from a powerpoint the whole time (which can be really boring). I would take him again if I could.

Marr is probably the coolest prof I've ever had. My friends and I used to joke that he wrestled lions with his bare hands just for fun, because he is pimp as hell. The class itself isn't the most interesting, but Marr will crack a few good jokes in every class and make it a lot more fun. He gives 10 ridiculously easy map quizzes, 10 map exercises, 4 tests, and an optional final that can replace the lowest test grade. Don't bother buying the book. I only got the $12 atlas to do the map exercises, and still got an A. I highly recommend this class to people of all majors if you're looking to get rid of that pesky Cat. D gen ed.

Small map quizzes which you can memorize in a night, and small exercises you can do in a night, and 4 tests. All you need to do is take notes and read the individual countries section and definitions in the book, and you will NEVER be tested on physiology (physical maps) with this professor. Easiest prof you'll find to satisfy your World Geography/U.S. Geography and Canada gen. ed. requirement.

Dr. Marr is very smart and knows his stuff. He travels a lot and has a ton of slides that are interesting. He has been around the world and back, therefore his lectures are for the most part interesting, but sometimes they can be boring. There are easy assignments and easy mini quizzes that are map tests. So basically study the maps, do the assignments, study a little for the tests, and you will be fine.

Dr. Marr is a professor that is easy to listen to and great to look at. Anyway, back to the class, it is very interesting material and he presents it in a way that makes it even more interesting. He probably has a million first hand experiences about places he's been to share with his class and that provides for a more relaxed classroom atmosphere. He's funny and knowledgable and does a fabulous job with the class. I recommend him to anyone who wants an easy Gen Ed course with minimal work.

I had to take this class for my gen ed stuff...but I do not regret it at all. Marr is an outstanding teacher that makes this class very interesting. I could never picture this class being interesting, but it was, no doubt. The tests however are pretty tough...you NEED to read the book, not just your notes. You have a good number of map quizzes and outside homework assignments that are honestly very easy and count for 2 test grades...take this class, he has been almost everywhere you talk about and has slides that make the class very interesting!

Dr. Marr definitely made his classes interesting with his slideshows of all the places he's been. His map homeworks and quizzes aren't difficult at all, the tests could be a little tricky, but not too bad. I won't disagree with the other comments about him being good looking either...

Dr. Marr is a good teacher. He's been to many of the places he talks about and he prides himself on his slides he takes whilst globe trekking. Slides? Yeah, slides! He's the only guy I know that can make slides interesting! I loved the ones on Morocco, he knew where the "bad" parts of town were and the story was entertaining. His tests are always the same: Multiple Choice, matching, T/F, Fill-in-the-blank, and map ID (EASY!) He's a good guy...take him!

The first thing I came to appreciate about Dr. Marr was that he is a genuine person first and foremost! He does not play to his position, which means that he acts like a regular guy and not some of these profs up here that think they are lowering themselves teaching us. 4 tests, 4 quizzes, 4 map exercises... tests were pretty easy... quizzes were easy... map exercises were really easy... He has a great sense of humor and he adds so much to the class by being able to offer his real-life experiences from Mexico and South America (where I take it he has done extensive research). Take Marr...he's awesome.

Take Dr. Marr for this class or any other geography class. His lectures might be a bit dry, but he throws in some jokes and some funny stories since he has been to south america a billion times. He gives you four exams, which are tricky and does require to read the book, but if you do that and skim ur notes ull be good. He gives homework assginments and easy map quizzes that really boost up your grade...take him

I had Dr. Marr for an 8 am Tues and Thurs and he somehow managed to make class interesting enough on most occasions that I wasn't tempted to fall asleep! He's extremely knowledgable, and has great slides to illustrate each chapter--most are pics he's taken himself, and he has interesting stories to go along with them. Exams are lengthy, but mostly all multiple choice, true/false, and short answer--nothing too difficult if you study. He also assigns weekly map worksheets--busy work, but he's tough when it comes to grading them, particularly if he's looking for one specific thing as an answer. They take 15 mins, tops, as long as you find a good maps website to rely on! Only negative thing was he was a stickler for having class--even if he wasn't there, he'd have a grad student bring in a video for us to watch and then have a worksheet to go along w/the video that would be collected for points AFTER the video was over. I think he let us out early once because he was sick and had no voice, but other than that, he never cancelled class and always taught right up until 9:15--he said he was "giving us our money's worth."

Dr. Marr was such an AMAZING geography professor!! I really think he should get credit for the work he puts into his classes. He is always willing to help and I thought I was going to do bad, but he made so much sense and he gave you all the notes on power point. You also had to define terms and he gave you really easy map quizzes!! If you want a good teacher and get a good grade, and are willing to put effort into your work, u better be signing up for this teacher!!

I loved Dr. Marr! His lectures were sometimes on the boring side, but his slide shows were interesting. He was funny and the workload wasn't bad. His tests were on the hard side if you didn't read the book, which I didn't because it was about as interesting as watching paint dry, but he would raise everyone's grades by a few points depending how they did on one exam relative to the others. I also found him to be incredibly sexy :-)

Marr is a great guy. He has a great sence of humor and a great teacher. He likes to lecture using power point, and talks about his educational trips to other countries a lot. 12 EASY quizes and he drops the 2 lowest... lowest grade I got on one of his 10 question quizes was a 90%... Only problem is tests are a little tricky. There is a matching section that just sucks. But, overall you MUST take him.

Mostly busy work with question sheets to learn ArcView/Map. Little to no in class lecture. Tests are take home all "hypothetical" situations using GIS. Rather fun professor and good sense of humor. Not really available often nor willing to really answer a question which "the student" should do on their own... reason your way though, etc. Final is a group project which he changes yearly.

First and formost the man knows very little about GIS, especially to be teaching an advanced course. I am still amazed that ArcView 3.3 is still being taught, I mean hello, lets at least teach modern technology. Secondly, he is the only prof that skipped out on class to allow the grad students to do the teaching. Unacceptable. I pay for an education form an actually professor with a phD, not some schmuck grad student who knows less than I do.

I think Dr. Marr is a great guy and you can see that he is passionate about what he teaches and he wants us all to e too. But his classes were mostly dry and some times pointless to be there. He takes attendance, but to ace the tests you do not need to be in class. His tests are comprised of three sections. Vocab, maps, and country specifics which he has you match. There is no word bank for the 50 or so vocab questions.
