Dr. Marsh was awesome. He's very down to earth and very nice. His class was just filling out the book he wrote and doing projects on the computer. I would suggest taking him, although he told me he was thinking about retiring, I hope he doesn't so more students can enjoy him!

My first year was rough. I came into his class really cocky... was like, I know all this. Well I've been taking computer classes since I was a freshman in high school and I have never learned more from a computer teacher in my life. Yeah, he is goofy and he yells sometimes. But he is a really awesome teacher and his door is always open. Willing to talk about anything including your grade in the class. Some of his exams are hard but you have a week to complete them. Fantastic teacher, one of the best in Ship

I would tell anyone to take Dr. Marsh, he is one of the best teachers on campus. You do have to do your work, it's not an easy class. You have to come to class or you will get points taken away from your grade. The tests are online and you have a program that shows you how to do the tests. The quizzes are online (in class) but he gives you a practice quiz and 10 of those questions are on the real quiz. He is funny, tells stories and wants to hear your stories! He's very approachable, he actually cares about his students and he's very reasonable. I wish he taught more classes! If you get a chance take Dr. Marsh!

At first, I though Marsh seemed a little weird... but once you get used to him, he's actually pretty funny and helpful. His class wasn't hard at all, and a lot of the people got over 100% because of the extra credit for attending all of his classes. The tests weren't hard since you could take them multiple times too. It was a pretty easy class and the powerpoint part was cool since you can pick basically any topic.

What you put into this class is what you will get out of it. The work is not difficult but it does take time. For every quiz and exam there are practice quizzes online, which contain the actual test questions. Dr. Marsh makes the class overall an enjoyable experience by cracking jokes and allowing the students to learn through numerous hands on activities.

This is a great class. Mr. Marsh is really funny and his class is not that hard at all. All your quizzes are online and you can practice them as much as you want before the class date of the test. The tests are online a week prior to the test and you can write down the steps and bring them to class and use them for the test. As long and you do a little bit of work outside of class (or get it from someone who does do it) you will pass! He never teaches for the whole class ... I think I was there the whole time once maybe twice ... and hes really funny. Take this class if you can it's easy and fun!

Dr. Marsh knows what he's talking about when it comes to c++. He does give a lot of assignments, and his tests can be somewhat hard, but if you go to class and pay attention, and then do your work, you'll be fine. If you're interested in programming this class shouldn't be difficult at all for you. Either way, Marsh is great to take and I wouldn't pass it up!

This class is so easy. He gives you everything you'll need to know. He lets you use your notes on the tests, the quizzes are online so you can practice them before you take it. If you don't get at least an A on his tests and quizzes then you're definitely not taking at least 20 min. of your time to go over your work. He has a hard grading scale but he DOES give you the answers a week ahead of time so there should be no excuse for you to do bad. Also the final is take-home and you do it in groups, and it's so easy to pull off an A for the semester. Take him, he's the best!

There's also a couple quizzes but we also get the answers. Guaranteed not to fail this class. I actually kind of enjoy going to his classes.

He is very enjoyable teacher. If you have questions or tips on anything he will help you out and he replies to e-mails usually within a few hours. He encourages working together except on tests. All tests are open everything but calculator (which you shouldn't need anyway), and neighbor. He weights the better grades more to give you an advantage. Overall, I wish he would teach every class.

If you know even just a little about computers or Microsoft programs (word, excel, powerpoint) you will do fine in this class. It's so easy. I barely did any work and still came out with an A. He gives you his exams a week in advance to study and figure out all the answers...then during his exam you're allowed to use your notes...so you can just take your finished exam with you to class. There is no homework besides studying for quizes/exams and completing a group power point project (which is easy as balls). Take Marsh if you get the chance. He's really funny and will always joke about drinking and dating.

Dr marsh's class requires a lot of work but if you keep up with it, it's an easy b. If you do well enough you don't even have to look at the final exam which is a project thats pretty long and tough. His stories are hilarious and we never stayed the entire hour and 15 minutes. He tells us he's bored and we're always out of there in about an hour. Never any homework - u just need to study the quizzes and tests at home and you'll be fine. Sit in the back of class if you can.

Not only is the class very easy and simple, but Marsh makes the class fun and entertaining. He tells great stories, wears funny ties, and loves to hear any gossip the students have. He's grading is harsh, but that's only because his tests and quizzes are so easy. He posts the entire quiz online days before you take it and on tests, you have two chances to answer each question. I enjoy the class a lot and rarely ever have to do work in it.

You will work you ass off but you will also learn more interesting stuff than from other profs. If you study how and what he tells you, you can expect an A or B. Going to his class is actually pretty much fun. If you like to be invisible in class or be a non-student don't take him though. If he sees you emailing in class he will read it out loud and will answer your cell phone if it rings!!!

I wrote one of the negative comments about Dr. Marsh. At the time I was really mad because I didn't do well on a test. I am now realizing how much I really learned in his class. I am so far ahead of people who took other profs it is ridiculous. It is actually making some of my other classes easier. My advice now is to take him and stuff he has you do will definitely pay off.

To the people that wrote negitive comments you are insane. Marsh is on of the best at shippensburg. He makes class interesting with his ties and his jokes. The material is hard, but the class all depends on the learning style that you have. Marsh is not going to come out and hand you the A. The class is more based on what you can do outside and your logic thinking. He was always there after class to help people along. And in my personal opinion he gave people the grades that they did not deserve, but granted I am not the teacher. All I am saying is the teacher does't make the grade the students do. The teacher is there to help you on your way.

Dr. Marsh wasn't the easiest teacher I ever had, but then again any DSI class isn't going to be easy. He made a miserable subject into my favorite calls to attend. Cool part is - he rewarded you for attending. I got a "C" in the class, but I earned the grade (had a hard time balancing 6 courses and working a job). I still use alot of the tools Dr. Marsh taught our class in Excel and enjoyed doing the portfolio (and sweating it out doing #12 on the last day!) Now in Denmark writing a 20 page paper for a DSI 220 equivilent, I find myself constantly referring back to Dr. Marsh's homemade notes book, which has a link to his webpage and of course, the Ten Rules! http://www.ship.edu/~mtmars/tenrules.html Can't wait to take him for Java in the spring

Seriously, if you want to take a prof that cares about you, take Dr. Marsh. At first I hated this class because it's not the easiest in the world but I think that's because I make it harder than it really is. Tell him that you need help and he will try to give you different test options that are easy to get good grades on. The semester isn't over yet but I'm planning on doing well in this class. He makes class interesting and he is the greatest! Take Dr. Marsh if you want a great prof that will not only help you now but for the rest of your college career!

I wanted to see how things were going at ol' Ship and ran across this site and wanted to comment about Dr. Marsh. I had him for three DSI classes. I appreciated him then for the enjoyable classroom atmosphere he imparted but really appreciate him now because of all he taught me (or made me learn) that I actually use on the job. Sure his tests are hard and he is demanding but if you study how and what he tells you, you will do OK. (It is rumored that he curves final grades but you will never get him to admit it because he obviously likes to see students sweat and squirm.) If you're a screw-up, he won't listen to excuses, will cut you off at the knees then beat you with the stump. Don't take him if you are thin-skinned as he like to have fun with students. Got a new piercing? He'll make sure the class knows it. If you smell like smoke, he'll get on your case about smoking. Hung over? He'll ring a bell! In a relationship (his pet peeve)? The whole class will know. Finally, if you are a good student, make sure you get him to do a reference and recommendation letter. Several people I graduated with thought he was very instrumental in helping them land jobs and internships. And keep in touch with him after graduation. I can't say enough good things about him. TAKE HIM, HE'S THE BEST PROF AT SHIP!!!

His tests can be difficult but he makes up for it with the fun of the class. Highly recommended.

First of all I took this class because I read on here that Marsh is easy, and for the most part he was but his class itself sucked.
As far as grading goes it's easy, just takes tons of time. You have to take FIVE HOUR tests, granted you can do them outside of class on your own free time, but it is the worst 5 hours of your life.
Other than that, Marsh likes to put on this persona of being a nice genuine guy, and you will like him at first, but as the semester rolls on you will see what he is truly about-- the paycheck he gets from ship and thats all he really cares about.
Overall class was fine, I got an A, thats what I wanted, if you put the work in you will get an A, but it won't be that fun of a ride.

Dr. Marsh is a.....very very very VERY bad professor here at Ship. The tests are very hard, his quizes have really nothing to do with computers but have to deal with stuff inside the computer. He should be teaching computer programming. At the end of this semester, I'm going to the dean of the business school and politely and calmly ask that they remove this man from the classroom before anymore kids fail.

You don't learn anything about business or programming. The class was hard, the tests were harder, he is a horrible teacher and doesn't know how to teach.  Dr. Marsh tries so hard to be nice to everyone, but his fake smile doesn't work well. He jokes around alot in class and rarely discusses more important issues such as...well....whats on the test. We were supposed to learn Word, Powerpoint, Access, and Excel, but we didn't truly learn anything more than in high school. I was very disappointed. Many people fail out of the class too because the test questions are insignificant to how the Microsoft Program works. Save yourself now and take someone else for that class.

Dr. Marsh is a nice guy and is pretty funny, but I feel like his class could have been a lot easier than it was. I mean, it wasn't really hard, but he could have done some things differently to make it easier. He puts a lock on the computers so you can't be on it while he is going over examples, but he does so much during those examples, that it would be more beneficial for him to let us do the examples along with him, but oh well. He puts practice tests on the myitlab website so that you can practice for the tests all you want. You can bring one sheet of paper with all the notes you need on it to use during the test... so you can just write down how to do each problem. There are also practice quizzes that you can take before each quiz. Oh, and make sure you do all the fill in the blanks and questions in the notes because randomly he checks those. There are no surprises in the class, it is pretty straight forward. Its not a bad class, the only reason my comment is neutral is because I am not a huge fan of his teaching style, but thats me..

Dr. Marsh is really nice and hilarious! However, the take-home tests are soooo hard! They can really lower your grade. The PowerPoint and group projects are fun, and the quizzes are easy because he gives practice quizzes on-line. Overall, he's a great guy and helpful, but his tests are hard.
