Dr. Mcfarland is one of the best professors/teachers I have ever had for any english class. She is very upfront with how she teaches and although she can sometimes move fast the information that is necessary for you to do well in the class is given. The easiest way to get a good grade in her class is to actually attend class (she notices when u don't show up). She gives you plenty of opportunities to gain extra credit as long as you pay attention in class and take advantage of those opportunities. She is almost always in her room and willing to help you no matter what you need. She is very understanding, patient, and willing to help you with anything you need. I recommend taking Dr. McFarland for whatever you can. I've had her now for two classes and loved going to class every time. She does a lot of group work that some people like and for those that dont like group work she makes it fun.

McFarland is a very good prof and is always willing to help you out. She often communicates via email and has you stop in to her office to look over papers.

My grade was the result of my work, not hers. She was horrible! She was unorganized, gave large assignments, and held ridiculous meetings or gatherings for little purpose. She also caters to pets and can be shockingly rude.

Don't take her if you don't have to!! The class was relatively easy, but this lady is seriously a wack job! She's one of the most unorganized, ditsy professors I've ever had. Honestly, she's just horrible! She rarely gives directions, and when she does they are always really unclear. Half of the time she confuses things in the books/stories that she assigns us, which is bull because the teacher should be able to remember the answers to things she assigns, but this lady can't! If the prof can't get the facts in a story clear, how are the students supposed to be motivated???? MacFarland is a horrible teacher, and I would never take her again, but as for the class itself, it's easy.

Not only did I have her for a class, but I tutor college students who take her for college writing. She's just bad at teaching. She gives poor instructions that are confusing and vague. She assigns things and forgets about them. When she's grading papers, she misses things and just takes off points for it not being there. It takes her a long time to complete simple tasks or to explain something to the class. I feel bad for the people I tutor because she tells them to do things that are just wrong or confusing. And she makes class so personal, which some people might like.

This professor was awful! She does not allow you to excel in your writing abilities. I normally would have considered myself a good writer, and she made me feel as though I had no writing abilities at all. She is the kind of prof. that picks her favorites, and if you're not one of them...you're in for a lonnng semester! Also, she gives you the worst possible feedback on your papers. She will tell you only GRAMMATICAL errors and NOTHING else! Lastly, she does not like it when you challenge your grade, and her rebuttal is always..."you can bring it up." At all costs please, please don't take her!

Okay, this class will waste your time honestly. She is very very nice, but, i think bipolar. You constantly have reading to do, and dumbass papers to write on. Her lectures are scattered around, not making any sense. Her fun 4 minute lehtures are great, and freaking pointless to boot. I would try not to have her.

I hated my writing class.. I am a good writer yet the highest grade I got on most of my papers was a C. Even when I would go to the LAC and have them proof it, I'd still get a bad grade, largely due to the fact that she didn't like my writing style. She loves the Sec Ed/English people so if you are one of them she'll make the semester easy for you. She hates El Ed people which maybe explains why she treated me like shit all semester.

Her classes are relatively easy. She assigned a few books to read and short stories. We did group papers and projects which made it nice so that you didn't have to write and come up with ideas on your own. But she's kinda crazy. She assigns you numbers because she can't remember people's names and you have to sit in a circle in number order. You have name tags and that you have to keep on your desks. It was kinda like being in elementary school again because when the class got too loud she would turn on and off the lights, she was just wacked.

I didn't personally like this professor, but I suppose I went in a little biased because I was hoping to do some creative writing for this class. It's ALL analytical writing! The first paper or two aren't that bad, but the election paper was death! She seems nice enough, but has pretty strong political views which aren't hard to discern, and no matter what she says, I refuse to believe that doesn't affect her grading somewhat. When we wrote the election papers, I told her I didn't want to write a biased paper on one party or the other, and also didn't feel comfortable chosing a political party for myself (which we had to do for this paper for reasons beyond my understanding). She looked at me like I was insane. I'm a Writing major, and have always been good at and loved writing, but this class definitely challenged my love for the craft. I recommend not taking her, but like I said, I may be biased against analytical writing. If that type of writing doesn't bother you, by all means go ahead and take her. I have to warn you though, she does give out a lot of papers, and practically WORSHIPS Nickel and Dimed, which you WILL have to read. She once asked my writing group why we handn't made any marks in that book (which seems almost sacreligious to me to do to any book) to prove that we were "active readers". One of us replied that we want to get as much money back as possible for this book when we sell it at the end of the semester. Her response? "You're not selling this book!" Hopefully this helped a little...

Depending on the work you put into things and your style of writing, this is how you will do in this class. If i had a million people read over my paper and i make a billion drafts within a day i seemed to get a B on those papers. some of the kids in my class hate her, i dont really have a problem with her. she can be a bit nutty though, but thats ok. watch out, she LOVES politics! AHH!! bad class to have been in before the elections. *cries* But all in all, if youre a pretty decent writer you will do ok.

She is a very nice woman, but she would take over all of our class discussions! We could never get a word or question in edgewise! The thing I liked the most was reading a book of our choice and then writing esays on that book. Honestly, the reason I found myself attending class was because of the Hess twins that sat right near me!
