I had McNichols for Human Phys. He's a nice guy and if you go and ask him questions (not stupid ones) then he is very willing to help you. He gives a quiz every Friday, directly off the handouts you get. Plus the quizzes force you to study for the exams. Just spend the hour in class listening and read the book before the test. People complain about him because they think they're still in high school.

Dr. mcnichols is a nice guy and he seems to like physiology. I learned a good amount in his class by showing up & paying attention (some people read the book & sleep in class). The tests weren't bad, but definitely try to do a little better than I did on quizzes... They come about once a week and were usually 5 multi-choice questions. i have to laugh at steve's response... dr mcnichols does say some questionably amusing things in class, depending on your mood, but he makes a good effort to get points across. he's a good guy & i recommend him.

Dr. McNichols is just an awesome guy. My first impression was that he would be very monotone and not very exciting, but after the first week of class, I realized that he is very laid back and says some funny stuff. Like when he was talking about starting neuron action potentials he said, "if you give me 5$ I'll jump up and down and if you give me $15 I'll start dancin'." He also played "Your in my heart, you're my soul" by Rod Stewart at the beginning of lecture when we began the kidneys and talked about "urine". *LOL* He gives handouts in class which are very pertinent to tests and quizes and he seems to be more focused on figures and graphs from the book so make sure you understand all the figures that he covers in his lecture. Lab is fun and you actually learn some stuff since he isn't nit-picky about lab reports and write ups. Normally after a lab all you fill out is a handout and maybe tear out a worksheet from you lab book and that is it. Overall Dr. McNichols provides a lot of relevant and applicable information in a stress-free environment for those pursuing a career in medicine. I highly recommend Dr. McNichols for any class he teaches.

I hate science and did poorly in Biology in high school. McNichols' class was very boring and on most days not interesting. If you go to class and study a little it should be a breeze, I pulled a B and I didn't take the final. You can drop quizzes after you have taken 10 and you can drop a 100 point grade which can be the final if you choose it to be. Overall pretty good for a gen. ed class.

Classes are pretty boring, you sit there and take notes from a PowerPoint, the board, or a video. One group presentation due for my Human Bio class which wasn't too bad. Quizzes on the material, comprehensive tests and a final. You were able to drop your two lowest grades even if they were tests or the final. He's got a dry sense of humor and he's usually available if you take the time to go talk to him.

McNichol's basic bio class was challenging but I always learned a lot. He has a different sense of humor but I thought he as pretty funny once you get into the course. I'd reccomend him.

He is a fairly boring teacher but he never cares if anyone sleeps. The material is straightforward and easy, and he always adds a bit of humor to his lectures to make them interesting. This class was a breeze, he cancelled it several times. Three exams, a group speech (graded easily), and about 10 quizzes throughout the semester

I just want to say, I tried as hard as I could to like Dr. McNichols but I just couldn't. His class was very interesting in terms of material but the way he taught it was very boring and difficult to follow. Although he gives you handouts that are on your quizzes and some on your exams, when he teaches he jumps around it and knowing what section he's teaching is hard to follow. The mono-toned voice doesn't help either. His exams were very difficult and much of the material was barely in the book (which you MUST study from especially the graphs/charts he shows). His labs were the worst. I don't understand what his method is to grade lab work but it's weird. Aside from the hand-in material, he is not helpful at all. He will introduce the lab and then leave the room for a majority of the period. The program you will use for experiments is confusing as hell and he expects you to be an expert at it the first time you use it. When we asked how to adjust something for it he just gave a smart-ass answer "maybe you should have read the manual" (since you don't have to buy it, there is no manual by the way). Overall it was just an unpleasant experience for me. He just seems bored and ready to retire. If you take him good luck and study hard.

I can't believe he doesn't have more negative comments considering everyone I talk to agrees that he can't teach a thing and you basically have to read the book to survive. He is completely monotone and it is impossible to pay attention to him in class, not that he makes sense anyway. His labs are a joke and he doesn't help when you ask questions. Plus you have random group presentations that he gives you the week before they're due. He really is one of the worst professors I've ever had. Just seems like he is ready to retire and doesn't care anymore.

Well maybe I am not the best to comment because science is definitely not my thing.. but this guy was sooo hard. We had to memorize like 200 pages of the book for every test.. and he doesnt give any notes so you dont have any clue whats going to be on it. He was also prob. the most boring and dull teach I have ever had.. if you are like me, and don't like science to begin with.. it makes it SO much worse for him to be so boring. Take someone else if you can.

This guy is a clown. First semester I recieved 3 A's, 1 A-, and 1 B. The B I got was in his class. Overall its not that difficult. Four tests and a bunch of quizzes, but he's sooooo boring you won't want to learn. Watching your roomate pick his nose for 50 minutes would be more exciting than this. It was sooo bad I just couldn't go to class anymore, it was such a waste of my time. I learned nothing. Please, look for another teacher. There has to be another one out there for you to take.

He is the worst ever! The material is extremely easy, but he is completely sucks at teaching! Ten short quizzes, two major exams, and a final, as well as a group presentation. I don't suggest taking him, unless you are having problems sleeping...

The good about this professor is that his quizzes and tests come from the handouts he gives in class. The bad thing is that he constantly jumps around, I guess some people are fine with that. The thing that bothered me the most was the frog labs we did. He expects everyone to read a damn protocol on how to do everything before lab, but he e-mails the protocol like an hour before lab?! wtf?! Don't complain about how people don't seem to know what they're doing when some probably didn't even get a chance to check their e-mails before lab started.

Very very very boring!! His quizzes are easy, but when it comes to the tests, you'll probably think where does this guy come from?! Tests are hard!! Study the book and your notes carefully. You have one presentation in the class and he grades you. Only 3 tests and a final, so if you fail one test, hopefully you can get As on the next two. Hes a nice guy and sometimes pretty funny, but will def. put you to sleep.

Dr. McNichols is one of the worst professors at SHIP. He is never in his office during office hours. His tests are impossibe. He doess give out study guides but they don't help at all. I studied my ass off using one of his study guides and nothing I studied was on the exam. If you have to take Dr McNichols for and Bio course drop it because his lectures are boring and so is he...STAY AWAY

1 word can describe him: BORING! He is an overall nice guy and I did learn a lot but I don't think there has been one time that I actually stayed awake. He gives you 10 quizes, and 3 exams, plus a final. The way he grades is very odd. Like if you get 1 question wrong you lose 1.78 pts. But if you get 2 wrong each one is worth like 2.3 pts. Take him if you need sleep and want to learn more information on the human body.
