I had a great experience with dr. Montouri. This class was actually one of my favorites. No matter who you take your going to have to write a couple of papers and actually do work, but I would definitely recommend her. She says she grades hard but she doesn't. She also says she rarely gives anyone a paper grade below a C as long as you don't completely bull sh*t it!

Dr. Montuori doesn't really teach anything. We write 4 papers..1 short essay, 2 long papers, and a collaboratve paper. She grades relatively hard, but if you go to see her for help with your paper, she will tell you what's wrong with it and then you can fix it. I did that for all of the papers and I ended up my an A- and I am not a very good writer.

Dr. Montuori is highly underrated as a professor. I have had her for Intro to Literary Studies, Shakespeare, and Renaissance Literature and I wouldn't have had it any other way! She is the best possible person to take for Shakespeare or any Renaissancian literary course because that is what she specializes in. Her passion for the subject matter is strong and manifests itself in her discussion of the pieces. She is very media-based in her Shakespeare course, as it is easier to comprehend the dramas if you have visual aides. TAKE HER FOR SHAKESPEARE! The exams are challenging, consisting mostly of short answer & essay. She covers the subject matter extensively in class & the class before an exam she will brief you on what to prepare for and expect. She's also quite discussion based, which can be effective because you are sharing thoughts & ideas. She is a challenging professor, but absolutely worthwhile. Disregard the trivialities of the other reviews left on her and take her if you want to learn something. Don't take her for an easy "A," it won't happen.

Subject: Good at English? You'll like her  (Jan 10 2006, 03:58PM)

She just doesn't like people who aren't totally serious about literature. Is this bad? Not necessarily. She definitely does play favorites (to some extent), but if you have one or two original thoughts in your head and do your work, chances are you'll be one of them. There's a fair amount of work--regular readings (which you HAVE to do--she's been known to give pop quizzes, and gets pissed if no one contributes to discussion), three papers, and three exams. The fiction paper is the biggest one, and the research and documentation is a pain in the ass. If you study and can apply concepts (not just memorize stuff), you'll do fine on the exams. (Participation is a pretty big factor in your grade, but just say one or two semi-smart things per class and you'll be fine.) Take her if you like thinking and talking about literature, and can do so intelligently. If you're just there for the grade, look elsewhere.

Sure, she only owns 2 or 3 shirts, and she makes inane comments about writing that make even mediocre writers want to shoot themselves. But she's a pretty fair grader. As she herself said on the first day, A's and C's are both hard to come by: expect mostly B's. However, if you put a lot of effort into it, and make appointments with her, it isn't that incredibly hard to get an A.

she is a good teacher..as long as you make appointments with her to go over your paper before handing it in you should get at least a B on each one...very easy class, barely any work other than the 4 papers

She's very rude, and she makes a big deal about attendance. It's hard to sit through her class, it's very boring and she doesn't help keep your attention. The whole class is papers and reading. I would avoid her at all costs.

She doesn't really teach anything. She talks at us for the entire class about her power points which are not even on the tests. She is very rude when people ask for help with the material. Do not take her.

Montouri was a hard grader. Don't expect to get an A. You only had to write a few papers, and they were on global issues, which wasn't bad. But her class was so boring. I wouldn't recommend her.

Doctor Montouri is not a mean person, she is not unwilling to help, and she is not too strict (she likes punctuality). What makes her so bad is the way she teaches. He lessons are straight up lectures or group work out of the textbook. For an intro class, I think she assumed we knew too much, especially in Poetry, which she sped through. She focuses too much on the Frankenstein novel. My final issue is that she is a very hard tester. She is fair when grading papers, she sticks to her rubric, but the tests are very nit-picky and difficult.

She is a really nice lady but impossible to please. She is so strict with her grading that you will want to hang yourself. Do not expect anything above a B- on her papers. She requires you to read pointless essays on top of writing more essays. Unless you are an amazing writer, do not take her.

She acts like Miss Know-It-All, and doesn't respect the students thoughts at all. Her tests were a terrible. Every single detail had to be down or you would not get a good grade. She also rips apart papers. You think you've written an A paper?, She will make sure it's a C+. Then there is a production workshop you must complete with a group. It's only 10%, but its also a pain in the butt to do. "Don't do something just because it's cool, do it for a purpose," she states. I couldnt stand this one girl in our group because she thought she was the boss of everything, but Montouri looks up to people like that. Attendence is also a big factor.

This woman was torture to have in class! I love literature, love reading, and she made me hate every story. She talks the whole period and it seems like it's never going to end. She grades ridiculously hard and it's a challenge to keep good grades. She seemed like a nice woman and she obviously cares about literature, but I don't suggest taking her at all.

This professor is a wonderful woman and very intelligent. She knows what she is talking about and will help anyone within reason. I probably didn't like the course because i knew more about literature categories than most people around this area, so the class was way too easy. We read things i had read in high school, which sort of ticked me off. She is a bit biased on grading, but it isn't so much of an issue that it will effect your final grade too much. It is pretty obvious she despises teaching Intro to Lit., and who can blame her when most of the students in the class don't even know any poetry? Anyway, she could improve selections that are read for class and maybe be a little more enthusiastic. All in all, i think i will enjoy her higher level classes more.

Okay so she's a really nice prof, however do not expect an A on a paper unless you can a) read her mind or b) you are an excellent writer. I proofread papers in high school for people and I still can't seem to get above a B+. True she doesn't give C's too often either, but still. Expect a B if taking her for college writing and make sure to go to all classes.

her class was pretty easy, three exams and three papers. as long as you study and you follow her guidelines on the papers, you'll do fine. also, attendance and participation counts a LOT. at the end of the semester, if you participate, you'll get a LOT of points you weren't expecting. attendance every class is expected, i had to miss one time and i told her about it before class and i had a legitimate excuse. she got kinda cranky about it, so no matter what, make sure you are there. if you are on her good side, she's nice, but if you aren't, she can be kinda nasty.

She seems like a nice lady, but I'd rather beat my head against a wall than attend this class. Some of the plays we read were stuff we did in high school. She did show videos, but I like to refer to those classes as naptime. The final group project was interesting, I have to admit, and as long as you DO A VIDEO she'll give you a good grade. She also gave random quizzes and takes attendance. It's all up to you, you can pass, but is it worth it?

Dr. Montuori isn't too bad for the most part. She's always in a pretty good mood, and she shows a lot of video clips in class, so it helps to break things up a bit. I have a real pet peeve about how she talks though. She's got kind of a whistle thing going on when she says her "S" sound. And sometimes it looks like she's staring at you with this really creepy look, but then she kind of snaps out of it. She's not one of my favorite profs, but there's defiitely much worse out there.
