Myron is a great prof. He'll call you out in class if you show no interest and put you on the spot. If you participate at all you will pass, probably with a B or better. Is very negotiable. Tests and papers are hard but not impossible. Offers extra credit thru review games and other stuff. Take him if possible.

I agree with what most of the other bloggers have said: the man is tough! I have him now for lit. I didn't listen to what others said on here and wrote my paper the night before and his marks all over my paper showed what others have said. When he returned our papers, you could tell he was pissed. Like others have said, hell work with you. he has tacked on major bonus points to the next essay for the gayest of things like eliminating the verb 'to be' or 2010 words. I can only assume that he got locked up in the library too long to think up bonuses like that. I should do well with spring break here to write the next paper. other than essays the class is laid back and a good gen ed -Tyler

I had Dr. Myron in the Fall semester of 2009. He required us to write several papers, from personal confessions to a research project. The class wasn't a walk in the park for me, but his guidance made me learn about myself and about writing. I spent five hours on a paper that I thought was a masterpiece, but after setting up an office appointment with him, I discovered that my so-called masterpiece was a very rough piece of work. As he started to talk about my piece, I literally wanted to scratch his eyes out, but as he talked to me about the paper, I started to understand what he wanted me to do with that essay. Doing what he suggested wasn't easy, but I did it and I think I wrote one of my best pieces ever :) I've heard people complain about him, but that's because he doesn't give away grades. He makes you work for them which too few classes at Ship do.

For anybody who doesn't like Dr. Myron, its their own fault. He is the only prof I had that took the time to learn the name of each person in my class. If you do the readings and participate in class, he'll love you. The midterm is somewhat hard, but he usually curves. So as long as you show interest he'll make the class fun. I am taking him next semester for WIFYS and I can't wait!

Taking him right now and am learning a great deal. Unlike other classes, he's letting us write a paper on our fields of study and teaching us how to use the style manual for that field. As an Education major, I'm getting to learn APA style, which will really help me when it comes time to write research papers for my major classes. The work load isn't bad and he understands the fact that we have other classes, which helps me out a lot.

If you sat through "The Devil Wears Prada," Myron is a breeze. He has this "silent intimidation" thing going on, and has no problem with a staring contest. However, once you get him talking, you'll see that he's actually a pretty approachable guy. When it comes to your writing, he doesn't mince words, so beware if you're sensitive. As far as class, it's not so bad. Myron runs the class like an actual seminar. Therefore, if you have something to say, say it. Our class actually got a test postponed that way. He doesn't use any visuals. Mostly, he just lectures. He's also a stickler about MLA format. Overall, I thought the class was cool. I recommend him.

Dr. Myron is probably one of my favorite professors in Shippensburg. I hated poetry before I took the course and learned so much about it. He likes to point students out of the class and make jokes. As this may sound embarrassing, he is most likely making class fun. There is a lot of discussion, so be ready to talk and make sure you talk because his one main point is that standing out and showing your ideas whether people agree with them or not are great qualities.

Dr. Coleman Myron is a genius, a real ass hole to be sure, but he will make you a better writer than you ever believed that you could be. I walked into his intro class, wrote my first paper, and he gave me a C, something I had never received before. I was pissed, but you know what, everything Myron took points off for he was right about. I noticed little things that I did wrong, that upset the quality of my work. Dr. Myron taught me new techniques to improve my writing, from there my scores skyrocketed in his class. It is a shame that the university will not give him tenure because he is by far the best teacher I have ever had, a generally caring and interesting prof, even though sometimes his tough grading makes you want to scream. All in all though, you would be cheating yourself not to take Myron.

Dr. Myron was one of the best professors I've had yet. Yea, for those of you who say he's tough there's no doubt about it, but he doesn't make his class hard for no reason. You're in college, he's not going to hold your hand through everything, but if you need a question answered he's more than happy to help. Make sure to speak up in class during discussions. If you stand out, you're more likely to get a good grade. If you get to talk to him after class you'll find he's a really chill guy. Def. my favorite teacher.

Professor Coleman is an incredible prof. to take for a writing class. He makes English fun and interesting and his dry humor had me rofl. He's tough but he really does care about his students, wanting them to be great rather than ordinary. If you need to see him, he'll make his schedule work to fit yours. His conferences were invaluable to the improvement of my writing. He's tough (ass-kicking tough) but fair.

I thought I was a good writer (got A's in high school); wrote my first essay in his class and got a low C. I was peeved, thought the man was a dick. I turned in my second essay and received a C+--what the @#$#; I got A's in high school and was geting B's in other classes... I was going to prove this SOB wrong, so I read all of his comments and worked my butt off on the third essay to show him that I could write and he gave me a solid B...the class isn't over yet. We have finals still but when I look at my first essay (the paper I thought deserved an A) I realize he was right. It did suck. I'm glad I realize what many don't. I appreciate what Doc taught me and hope I make get another opportunity to take him.

I took him my junior year, and I really wish that I had him earlier for he helped me to become a better writer and thinker. He really challenged me and wouldn't let me sluff off. In many classes, I can go through the motions and get an "A," not in Doc's class. I might not get more than a C in this class, but I learned how to analyze a text, to think outside the box, and to write better, much better.

Dr. Coleman taught one of the first classes I took when I returned to college after an extended absence. He was very strict (a necessary approach when dealing with undisciplined students), but if you listened, learned and applied your new knowledge, it became a terrific learning experience. Dr. Myron has high expectations for his students. He does not accept less than your best and seems to despise intentional ignorance and laziness. His class was a challenge and it forced me to be a better student. When I made appointments with him, he kept them as did I. I heard of students scheduling time in his office and then not showing up. When he couldn't be available for them later on, they would whine and blame him for their failures. Students who were willing to put forth an effort to succeed in his classes usually did.

I'll admit, Dr. Myron is a hard grader, but he allows you to keep revising your papers to up your grade. As long as you show him effort with the 5 or 6 basic papers that you have to write, you'll make him happy. I would always revise my papers and one of them after 2 revisions was bumped from a C to an A-. He made us get two small writing books to help us with our writing and had us do tiny reading assignments to read the chapter that would have to do with our upcoming paper. We also had one mock trial that was not difficult at all. His attendance policy is a little harsh, but not too too bad. Overall, I think this class improved my writing and I was grateful to have him as my professor.

While Dr. Myron tends to be a strict grader, and a tough teacher, he has no problem getting you to understand the meaning behind literature. The class required a lot of effort, but if you went and talked to him about your problems he would gladly do something to help you again. His final was somewhat difficult but he explained just about everything that it would contain. A good professor if you're looking to learn.

Dr. Myron sucks..do not take his class unless you want to feel like a piece of sh*t. He tries to get you to elaborate on your answer which is fine, but he takes it way too far. He makes you feel like a complete idiot if you don't feel the same way he does. He sucks..I dread going to his class because it sucks. The tests are impossible..and he gets pleasure out of his students failing. Don't even think about going to him to ask a question..because any question you ask is completely stupid to him and he glares at you. []

Complete dick. if you ask questions he makes you feel stupid and never really answers them. "Look in the syllabus" is his favorite thing to say but the syllabus isn't especially helpful. He doesn't fully explain what he wants on his papers, and doesn't give out guidelines for them. If you miss more than 2 classes you lose a letter grade for each class missed after that, but half the time you leave early anyway and don't really do anything. Complete waste of time.[]

Horrible teacher. The class is supposed to be about teaching you how to write better, but he just throws papers at you and you have to do them and you end up getting a bad grade. He is very rude and if your answer is not good enough he'll keep asking the same question over like 5 mins before answering his question. He is easily talked out of things though. When you do peer reviews you just have to go for like 30 mins then you can leave as soon as you are done. He cancels class once in awhile for conferences with him, where you can go any time up to his office and talk to him. I suggest NOT taking him, he is very rude and does not teach you what you are suppose to learn.

He gives you tests on these at least once a week and never really goes over how to diagram the sentences. He expects you to already know it and I know I haven't had diagramming since I was in 9th grade. This guy is an overall asshole. The only good thing I can say about him is that he is up for changing the page length of papers if the class talks to him into it.

 -very difficult
-get a head start on your sentence diagramming skills & show them off if you already know how to do it. If you're a bit rusty get some tutoring, but not at the learning center because they don't remember how to do it either
-challenging, like no joke
-don't use cliches, he'll get ticked off
-allows you to rewrite your essays, but grade change is minimal, unless you're favored
-answer the "guess who's" for extra credit
-let him know you exist, say something during class
-participate
-he will stare (as if he's expecting something out of you) & when he does make sure you stare directly back into his eyes
-visit word-hoard.com & make his day
-he claims that everybody will pass the class...
P.S.- He grades extremely hard. Don't get heart broken if you get a D+ because they'll just keep on coming...

The one positive thing I will give him is that he lets you rewrite almost all the essays. But he doesn't seem to teach me anything about writing. I never had a real writing teacher in high school so im starting from scratch but he expects us to be at his level. Therefore he grades us at a VERY high standard which sucks because I work my arse off for that class and the best grade I received on an essay was a C-. He bounces from one thing to another... he hasn't actually gone over writing. We spent the last week to 2 weeks going over sentence diagramming. WHAT IS THAT! Honestly what does that have to do with our writing. I want to improve my writing... I'm not an English major and therefore I need the basics so that when I write stuff I know what I'm doing. Also, when I went in to talk to him about my essay I wanted to rewrite, he asked me what was wrong with it!!! IF I KNEW THAT I WOULDN'T BE HERE!! So if you wanna get pummeled by a pointless class (which is definitely not the education level of a gen ed) then take Dr. Myron. He is a good guy, nothing against him personally but I hate his teaching methods.

This class was very easy because he doesnt demand much out of you as far as work, but he grades your papers like a son of a b*tch. Mine had so much red on it he must have went through at least 3 pens. Plus the topic of the class was Women in History so all we did was write about dumbass things that women have done. His final was insane, we had to choose a female in history and write why we feel she was important, only a 500 word paper too, not bad right. WRONG. The catch was that it had to be exactly 500 words and you couldnt use the words be, being, been, am, is, are, was, and were. Try talking about a women in history without using those words, it nuts. Overall the class was cake but I wasnt happy with his grading and topics, so dont expect better than a B- if your a guy, girls get an easy A!

Throughout high school I received very good grades on writing assignments. Then in this class my grades were D, C-, C+, C, C, and C. I couldn't understand. I even had my mom help out on my papers, who graduated from ship, and I still got low grades. Out of our entire class I only know of one person who received an A. I suppose if you are into challenges go for it, but otherwise, you might want to stay away.
