Dr. Nollenberger was a fantastic guy! Make sure you laugh at his laffy taffy jokes. It's usually the way he will start a class. He likes to lighten the mood with the jokes. His class is usually fairly simple. There were two papers that consisted of simple online research. He is a pretty simple grader but honest about his comments at the same time. Awesome guy, I definitely suggest him!

Don't let my grade fool you - this class was extremely difficult. The class was a waste of time, because he does not teach anything that is on the test. Basically, you should buy the book and read it and read it and read it in order to pass the tests. This class had 3 tests, a paper, and a few homework assignments. The reason I am giving him a positive rating is because he lets you retake tests if you have perfect attendance (and you definitely want that!) plus he is a genuinely nice guy. Oh, laugh at his jokes - they are, at times, funny and it seems to make his day.

I took Nollenberger for both POE & Human Bio. I really enjoyed POE, partly because I enjoyed the subject and the class watched a lot of videos. I disliked Human Bio and did horrible in the class. All the exams are multiple, which suck. Attendance and participation are part of the grade, if you give an excuse for why you missed class that won't be counted against you. Also, the other assignments aside from the exams are a breeze. He does not grade hard on those and there is an opportunity for extra credit in both classes. His jokes and stories are tacky but he means well and is more than willing to help a student. Take him.

At first this class was easy because it was mostly review from high school but as the class neared the end it started becoming difficult... if you want an easy professor I wouldn't take him because he has a lot of information you need to remember for the tests and quizzes but if you love multiple choice tests and are good with remembering technical information you'll do good.

If you love science and really wanna learn, you should probably stay away and u will probably agree with all the people saying negative stuff. But if you dont mind going to class and listening to an old man tell cheesy jokes and talk about sex and beer and cruise to a C or B. But I can see why super serious students dont like him.

I had Human Bio with Earl, he was the best prof. I had all semester. He trys to keep the class alive by purposly getting sidetracked and telling jokes, some of which are really lame, but laugh anyway, he'll like it. As for the material, there is a lot to know for the tests, but not much memorization. If you read the chapter and pay attention in class, the test is very easy. Had to do a few internet exercises, not hard at all, and wrote a 3 page paper, not hard either. This was my best class. I suggest taking Earl. He also talks about TV shows all the time, like South Park, and MTV shows and that new show about Earl, whatever its called.

Earl Nollenberger is a decent professor except when it comes to teaching. I took no knowlege away from this class. However it was very easy and if youre looking for an almost automatic A, then take him. You have to try to fail this class.

Dr. N. has a unique style of teaching that requires a sense of humor! Overall though I learned a lot about biology. His tests are not very easy, and you really need to study pretty hard for them. I would really suggest taking his extra credit by the deadline, because it will really help your grade out. I could have gotten an A if I had done the extra credit! What I liked most is the feedback he gave on some of my quizzes. This tells me he is really reading everything we write, and he does take his students seriously for the most part.

Nollenberger was the easiest professor I had this semester. I am a first semester freshman in the Summer Start Program, so I am a dumbass. Without opening a book I recieved a B. Three Tests a semester, all multiple choice. Easy Tests too, but if you do bad you can retake the same test after he goes over it in class (providing you have perfect attendence). There are weekly questions you do as homework, but they are easy ways of raising your grade, and he gives dumb extra credit so you can get like a 5.5/5 on them, so that helps even more. I would recommend his Problems of Environment class.

Dr. Nollenberger is by far one the best biology teachers this University has. He makes class interesting by mixing it up with dry humor. There are 3 tests that are really hard, but if you attempt to study them, you will be fine with the major curve he gives. He gives 1 quiz every week worth 5 points with mad extra credit opportunities. One paper is assigned which is a piece of cake as long as you do it. I suggest your read the book, but focus on key concepts and terms, and you will be set for the tests. He is always there to help as well. I got a D on my first test, and pulled a B+ on my second because of him. So if you need a class, and are in for some dry humor stories, he is the man.

The guy definitely has a few lose screws, but it's all for the better. If you show him you care and actualy want to learn, you'll do fine. His tests are impossible , but he curves like a mother at the end of the semester. I thought i was going to get a D and ended up with a B+. He knows he doesn't teach shit, so he's easy with the grades. If you want to laugh at someone, take his class, he's an entertainer!

I had Nollenberger at 8:00 in the morning, but I managed to stay awake most of the time with his goofy stories. We learned a lot about monkeys and stuff that didn't have to do with the tests. The class wasn't that hard though, and i think he may have curved the grades at the end of the semester.

He's a pretty interesting guy. He loves The Monty Python movies and the show Jackass. He relates them to class at times. He's so easy to get along and very fun to talk too. His exams are not that bad, but you really do need to study a lot for them. I had two years of biology prior to his class and I still had to study a lot. He has pop quizzes of five questions every Friday. I really suggest to take him!

His powerpoints are online, so you would expect the class to be fairly easy- WRONG. His lectures are so boring he had half the class sleeping, mostly because HE WOULDNT TALK ABOUT BIOLOGY. He would go on random tangents, and make inappropriate sexual jokes. You would go into the first test thinking because you studied the slides, it would be easy since he doesn't come off as being a very hard professor. But you get the test and its made as if he had been actually teaching biology all those weeks, instead of rambling on about his vacations and thoughts about life. I dropped the class after the first exam because I really couldn't take it anymore. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!

He is the worst professor I've had yet. All he talked about were the Steelers, Partying, Cops, etc. He constantly went off topic, so you will end up actually skipping chapters towards the end. You do nothing in class, which is sometimes nice but in the long run it makes actually learning the material close to impossible. Almost all of the material he teaches is not even on the tests. He gives you a big curve thru attendance points to keep people from failing, so it is pretty easy to get a C. Basically if you want to get an A study your butt off and read the book over and over again and hope for the best.

This class was rough. It was boring and hard to stay awake, and I even had him in the afternoon. When he wasn't talking about the students partying or telling Laffy Taffy jokes, he was teaching off of a PowerPoint that was scatter-brained and unorganized. Even if you tried to pay attention and take notes straight from it, when you went back and read them later, they made no sense. You definitely have to read the book to learn anything. I really think that's the only way I passed my tests. If you do get stuck with this class, make sure you go to it. He gives a lot of credit for attendance and that's what saved my grade. So GO, even if you do spend most of your time on Facebook.

First off I'm a biochemist so this class was a joke to begin with. Dr. N takes attendance every class and usually starts things off with a laffy taffy joke. Then he flips through slides pulled form the book and talks. The lectures are simple enough and the essays he assigns aren't bad at all. Don't expect the essays back anytime soon... he takes forever to read them. Then comes the first exam... *flips through the questions* where the heck did he pull these from? half of these we never talked about in class or really were touched on in the book >.> Questions from random readings on his D2L also spice it up so you get even more confused. Then after lolly gagging on material we were 3 weeks behind. He covered a chapter a day to try and catch up which made it even worse. I managed to blast through the class because of prior knowledge and a little bit of luck. Just stay away from this class and spare yourself. Most inefficient prof. EVER.

Old man Earl is a trainwreck of his professor. For anyone who thinks they'll have a class where they can get a decent grade, think again. He professes a theory of "you teach yourself, the teacher is merely an aide". He lectures and gives Powerpoints, but DOESN'T USE ANY OF IT ON THE TEST! Stay away from this guy at all costs. You do nothing in his class, which is great, but you will pay for it in his tests (he barely gives any HW to make up for it).

It's an easy class, you don't have to try very hard, show up, or be awake to get a decent grade. I'm happy with a b considering I rarely went. Tests were straight out of the text, class had no relevance to the text. He puts all assignments on blackboard and they can be emailed in.

Earl is a nice guy, but he's a horrible professor. I learned absolutely nothing during the class periods because he spent a good 40 out of 50 minutes telling laffy taffy jokes, talking about how to avoid Shippensburg cops, and how he had raab in his class back in the day. There wasn't a single thing on the test that he went over in class, and half the time he relayed false information to us (ie o blood can be given to any other blood type and receive blood from any other blood type because you can somehow get rid of antibodies that reject it...news to me!). His slide shows are extremely vague and straight from the book...without any of the important information. Buy the book. Read the book. There's a website in the front of the book that has study guides and quizzes and answers to the questions in the book. THIS IS WHERE THE TEST IS FROM!

Ok, don't get me wrong, he seems to be a sweet old man, but when it comes to teaching, not the best. Class time was wasted talking about everything from sports scores, bad jokes (most weren't even funny), police, and drinking. Drinking was usually his favorite topic and for someone who is a big partier/drinker you get tired of hearing about it class after class...after a while you get sick of going to class and wasting time...his class is nothing of value (sometimes I even took my iPod to class, it was that boring)...never tells you what to focus on or know for the tests (just what chapters its on)..Tests are extremely difficult and the book is your only resource, no notes!..Only 2 tests, the final, and short assignments/projects that you can BS your way through... Going for help is a waste of time too...Goes off on tangents and recovery is not very quick! As he will tell you, the only extra credit is some Diablo car(?) or something with a full tank of gas..If you can avoid taking this class with this guy then do so!

Even though this was my first semester at Ship, Dr. Nollenberger is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. He's a really nice guy, don't get me wrong, but it ends there. His obsession with sex and cartoons is inappropriate and obnoxious. I still have yet to figure out what Monty Python and Spongebob Squarepants has to do with Biology. His quizzes (one every week) and tests (3/semester) are completely impossible. All he does in class is lecture using Powerpoint. His presentation is unorganized and makes no sense. He shows stupid videos that have nothing to do with what you're studying at the moment. Reading the book is impossible, too. If you don't like science in the first place, this prof. completely turns you off!! He gives absolutely NO feedback on his tests and the paper you write. All you get is a little square piece of paper with your last name and a score on it. He then proceeds to make up some stupid story using a building to tell you where our scores fall with the letter grades. This guy must be smoking something because his class is completely impossible. DO NOT TAKE DR. NOLLENBERGER IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, if not, then shoot yourself now to avoid suffering later. Also, DO NOT EVER take his class at 8am...extremely painful!

Earl's class was terrible because he talked about irrelevant material the entire time because (as everyone else has stated) its not on the exams. I even bought and read the book and still did terrible. I spent a lot of time studying and failed them all. Luckily though, attendance brought me back up. Oh and meeting with him is pointless too.

He is an interesting person who tells a lot of lame jokes. The class is basically a usual lecture type class. He lectures on PowerPoints that he puts online. He only gives three exams, one of which is the final. The first two exams are multiple choice accompanied by essay questions which he gives a few days ahead of time so you can submit them online by the time of the test. They are pretty difficult so I would recommend studying a fair amount for them, a lot of information is covered in class and only some of it gets on the exam. He gives a few fairly easy but sometimes time consuming assignments throughout the semester. He checks attendance so if you want those points (which helped out my grade), you have to go to class. But if you do well enough not to need the attendance points, you really wouldn't have to go to class considering the PowerPoints he lectures from are up online. But in my personal opinion, if you actually go to class and study you will do alright.

Dr. Nollenberger was an alright prof. His tests were kinda hard, yet he made his grading very fair. He always jokes around and there is never a serious moment in the class room. The hardest part of the whole class was his essay questions for this tests. Besides that you will love his class

Ok, his class is a piece of cake. You can basically sit there and stare at the wall because NOTHING he teaches in class is ever on the exams. EXAMS ARE ALL FROM THE BOOK, SO BUY IT! He gives easy, easy assignments that take no thought at all, but the exams are horrible if you're bookless. The ONLY reason I got a B in the class and not an A+ is because I chose not to buy the book (it's mad expensive) and I did poorly on the exams. Whatever you do, make sure you HAVE THE BOOK going into this class.

He is a nice enough guy and has a very...unique sense of humor...as far as the class went, he was very scattered, his powerpoints were boring, and he was nearly IMPOSSIBLE to talk to through email. He said that he received and read all emails but never once responded back to me. On a positive note, his grading was pretty lenient. He always allowed people to make up missed quizzes and homework, but did not leave any feedback as far as grades go. Overall, a decent professor, but I found this class to be extremely boring...thank God for cell phone games...

Most of the things that you read about this professor under the negative and neutral sections are true. Sitting through this class really is a lot of wasted time because you learn very little in class. You basically have to read the material on your own outside of class get a good grade. He does take attendance and, while I'm not sure how much, it does have an effect on your grade. Like most everyone else said, he has a lot of corny jokes, and he knows this. Every once in a while you might laugh at them because they're so corny. He spends a lot of time talking about off topic things. As a result of this, very little of his class time is spent actually teaching. However, I think it is this factor that makes this class fairly easy. If you go to class, you can literally sleep the whole time and miss very little. He announces tests and quizes in class, so just listen for the dates and skim over the material before hand. His tests comprise of multiple choice and sometimes short essays, but they're basically all basic knowledge or things you learned in middle school and high school science classes. If you're not comfortable sleeping through the class I would suggest taking other work with you and use this class as a chance to get some work done! Overall, I say this class is an easy grade, despite the prof.

Nollenberger is one of those doddering old men who crack bad jokes, wander off their train of thought, and generally waste class time. He's sweet, he's nice, he's very balanced in his opinions, but he is a *time waster.* I skipped a lot of his classes just because I knew half an hour would be devoted to sports scores and random bad jokes. As far as his Monty Python clips and stuff, who can NOT like that? It's cute, and it's only for the first two or so weeks of class... then he keeps to educational clips. His tests are hard to study for. Review the chapter beforehand and you should be okay. But he cuuuuurves the entire class, so I got all As. He has two small projects and a few small assignments to do that take very little time and can really bring your grade up. No group work. Nice guy, but boring and time-wasting. If you show up to class, bring other work to do discreetly.

Umm...Dr. Nollenberger is different. He is a really nice guy. I received good grades in his class, just make sure you do the extra credit in the beginning and pay attention to the due date of it!!! It helps so much! ...My only problem with Professor Nollenberger is that he gets off subject ALOT..Some time I had no idea what he was even talking about, and what he talked about half the time was not even on the tests?...so you'll survive if you do your work, but maybe try to avoid.

ok dr.N wasnt the worst prof I ever had, but he was probably the most boring. I had this class at 8 am which is bad enough. He cracks stupid joks, sometimes they are funny. It seemed like most of the questions on the test came from the chapters out of the book, not from his powerpoints. So I strongly suggest reading the book. I sat down the night before the test and took the time to actually read the chapters. I never got below a B on a test. The quizes are pretty hard even though they are take home. I think the worst part of his class is the bordom. By about halfway through the semester I found myself doing blow before class just to stay awake. But if u dont do that and fall asleep dont sweat it, just read the book.

Dr. N is a semi funny guy but he tries way to hard. He doesn't really teach in class but he shows a lot of cartoons and talks a lot about them. He gives at least one quiz a week and gives a bonus question on each quiz. The bonus question usually has something to do with cartoons especially Spongebob. If you watch that type of tv than you will enjoy his class. If you want a teacher that will teach you than do not take his class.

dr. nollenberger was pretty good. class was very boring tho. the slide shows don't really help out with whats on the tests. as long as you read the text book and show up once in a while for the assignments its a piece of cake.

The tests were hard as anything, but the little five point quizzes and feedback stuff pull your grade up, and if you can handle sitting through a lot of lectures and dry humor go for it.

Earl was a very bad teacher. His class was a great time to catch up on missed sleep. He talks about stuff that has nothing to do with Biology and his tests are impossible. I got a good grade because of the extra credit project, be sure to sign up for that by the required deadline...it's in the syllabus and according to Earl, "It's like Ragu, everything is in there!"

Well, I never studied for this class, but still got a B. I must have bombed the final, because for a while I was one of the highest ranking students. I want to repeat that I did not study for this class ONCE. We even got to watch Monty Python in class once. However, his constant referalls to cartoons, with questions on the quizes refering to these cartoons, I found retarded, quite frankly. I think people don't understand what his class is about. I don't think his class is about Biology exclusively, I think it's about science in general and what role it plays in society today and over time. I certainly learned more about how religion and science have interacted over history rather than anything about Biology.

From what i have heard from other students for basic bio , dr. nollenburger is the prof to take. His class is boring you don't learn anything and you pretty much have to learn everyhting on your own. You have a quiz every wednesday which aren't always easy but he puts some stupid bouns question like who is the flinstones dog. You write one paper (that's an easy grade if you don't slack off) and you have a few tests which are very hard if you don't throughly prepare yourself. He does grade on a curve so you can survive. You just have to give him his props for all those corny jokes he makes trying to get the class to smile. watch out for the "atp" joke!!!

Thats right kids. Its like Saturday morning all over again. Know you're cartoons...SpongeBob, Beetle Baily, Power Puff Girls, Rugrats and a slew of others. It will save your A$$ on the 5 pt. quizzes you have every week. Also, don't study for the exams, because you'll have an aneurism when you look at the test and there isn't a damn thing on there that you recognize. Anyways, do the X-C and have fun with the weekly feedbacks (mostly you're opinion). Also, hope you like Monty Python, Penn State football, and flashbacks that sound like they came straight out of a Hunter S. Thompson novel...weird, and funny in a tragic way.
