Subject: Olsen is awesome  (Feb 26 2006, 02:04PM)

Dr. Olsen's class wasn't hard at all. Take this class if you need to fill a gen. ed. math. I suck at math, but this course was a breeze. She gives you a quiz once a week (on Fridays) which is generally very easy if you go to class each day. She has a good way of explaining things and helping you to understand math. There was no final, we just had to do a poster project and everyone hung theirs up around the room and we walked around and all graded one anothers. It was an enjoyable class and she made it fun. She is very available outside of class and willing to help with whatever. Take her.

I pulled a B- in this class only because I skipped all the time (YAY no attendance policy!) and didn't do a few assignments. If you do all your work and go to class most of the time, you are sure to win an A. Bookwork is optional. There are online multiple choice exams you have to take that are worth 10 points but you can take it as many times as you want. Tests are not too difficult as long as you show up to class. The Final was simple: a poster and a 2 page paper. Olsen is a very nice prof and is willing to answer all questions. I highly recommend her!

Professor Olsen is a really fun teacher who truly cares about her students. She is the first math teacher to actually explain how we can use math in everyday life. She has no temper, and is soo easy to get along with. I recommend this professor to anyone.

Dr. Olsen in my opinion is an excellent teacher. She's very attentive and compassionate to students who attend class on a daily basis and participate regularly. Her quizess are open book, 3 exams, project pts., article pts.,participation pts., and final. If you don't do so well on your exams, dont panic there are other assignements that should balance your grade. Just beware being attentive is neccessary to understand the course and pass, otherwise you could fail the class. It's sort of a rollercoaster ride.

I received a B with only myself to blame. Yes Dr Olsen seemed a little pissed off some mornings or atleast flustered. But thats the students fault. We had 4 classes a week and this course is required. Naturally, most students didn't want to be there and often weren't there. I personally missed a couple of classes and thats why i have only myself to blame for not receiving an A. Buy a TI-83 and show up to class everyday and you will receive an A. If you choose to miss a class every week, you may find yourself quickly lost and you'll be asking people for help that are just as lost as you are. Trust me Dr Olsen may come off like a b*tch, but she is actually fairly reasonable and is only trying to do her job. my advice to you is to go to class so you wont need help. Trust me, this is one class you dont want to repeat so get your sh*t straight when you take this course.

She was my prof for an online class, and I liked her a lot...granted, I didn't have to sit in class listening to her every other day. I have a lot of trouble with math and she helped me through everything. She also seems to really care.

Someone said she plays favorites.... here is how that whole thing works. If you don't come to class, don't do your work and give off an "I really don't care about this class attitude" then she will not like you. (as math ed I wouldn't like you either) She is a good prof who will take correction and just wants her students to succeed and understand the material. She will do everything in her power to help you pass if you need it because she want you to pass. How often do you get a prof like that?

If you donít kiss her ass 24-7 donít expect the grade you deserve. She is a mean lady. You will know by the second week if youíre a favorite or not. If you are then expect a good grade, if youíre not then drop the course. I once did my work with someone that she loved and we had the same work and that person received a higher grade. This sort of thing happened a lot with tests and other assignments.

For calc. she seemed a lot like McGivney. She makes sure everyone knows the material is always aviable to help with understanding the material. She was great for ELA. In ELA all the material seems to be the same, but it is really an application of discrete math. You can get an A in the class without getting the point, you have to prove that one thing implies another before you blindly use it. She encourges the intelligent people to caught on the the next material. However, a few people did make incorrect assumptions. They call her an idiot because they don't understand they're wrong. The grading system pads down each of 3 test before the final to 15% of your grade. Doing bad on one test won't kill your grade.

I have had Dr Olsen for over 4 classes, if that doesn't say anything then i' just tell you that she is very good. i can understnd why some people might not like her class, but if you can do things her way then you wo't have trouble at all. i could just pay attention in class and not do the homework or study for the exams until the last minute and still get a B average. she is very helpful if you have questions, and if you hve respect for her she will give you the same in return. i definitly recommend taking her, i know i will if i get another chance.

This prof's teaching styles are very similiar to Dr. McGivney in case you've already taken a class of hers. Dr. Olsen is a pretty good instructor who makes sure you understand the material before moving on. She is very willing to do what the class feels necessary and constantly askes for feedback from the students. I enjoyed this class a lot but didn't keep up with my work...so i paid for it. Take her, but do you work and keep up!

Dr.Olsen seemed really cool the first day of class and then her true colors come out. She does not like answering any questions and insults you if you do. She will start teaching a new topic 5 minutes before class is over and then gets pissed and yells at the class when you do badly on the quiz. When you tell her she didn't teach it enough she gets even angrier. She should seek therapy and stop making her students feel sh*tty because she is an incompetent professor.

This prof has insane mood swings in which she makes everyone pay for. [] she's also in love with excel, so if you don't have it on your computer, you're pretty much f*cked for the semester unless you go to the comp lab every night for 2 hours. no review sheet for any of her tests, which are worth 80+ points while everything else is like 3 points and takes a week to do. her explations contradict all the time. she just has no idea what the hell shes doing when it comes to math modeling! AVIOD AT ALL COSTS

I had this class at 9 am and Dr. Olsen seemed to come off nice. However, my major disappointment with this class is she would cancel class without telling anyone. She also gave us two projects to finish with only a week left of classes. Class could be fun at times, but she is out there. I would not recommend this class since she really does not seem to care about her students. Take her if your GPA is hurting and you want a class to pull it up.

She is the worst professor I have ever had. First day she comes off real nice and happy, but a week into it she turns in a B!tch. She doesn't care if you understand the material at all, she just tells you to see her after class. She also likes to explode on the class for absoulately no reason. Also if you don't learn math very quickly she is no good..she hates answering questions from kids that don't get it right away. And don't try and go to the Dean about her because at least 5 people in are class have went to the dean about her and they do nothing..Avoid her at all costs.

This professor is ok for one class, more than that and you'll be frustrated. She tests on things different than what is taught in class. Never cancels class, even when she's not there. Some favortism is evident, but can be avoided if you just play the game. I would avoid this prof if possible.

Her class was an amazing disappointment. It took us 3 months to get through a little more than one chapter. I was hoping to learn something in this class, but instead we got bogged down on details to such an extent that all that we learned in a semester I could have taught myself reading from the book in a couple of afternoons. If you actually wanted to learn something, find another professor. If you are only here to drink and screw, then you still probably want to find another one because she gives a good bit of homework. She is a nice professor and is helpful if you can track her down, but her class is so easy that 99% of your intellectual capacity can safely be devoted to undressing the cute math major chicks next to you and you can still swing an A.

If you were dumb, or acted like it, you might say she was an ok prof. Otherwise, you are potentially screwed. Any kind of free independent thought is squelched by her, and yet at the same time, that's what she wants in group work. Overall, she was not helpful in her most recent experiences, and if the class outsmarted her, she threw a fit and stormed out. In general, unless you have the IQ and the free thought of a rock, DO NOT TAKE HER UNLESS YOU HAVE TO!!!

I agree with others who have said that she seems nice the first week or two... but then I don't know.. she starts to fly off the handle, treats people like crap, and is just generally bitchy. I mean, don't get me wrong, the class is ridiculously easy. I got an A and skipped probably a third of the classes. She apparently really believes anyone who takes Math for Lib Studies is an idiot and so she dumbs down the material something fierce, and then basically makes fun of and looks down at her students. Oh, and make sure if she says to staple your papers you staple, not paperclip or you'll really get humiliated in front of the class. This woman even gave me a lower score on a math worksheet because I didn't use a semicolon where I should have!

Dr. Olsen is a very nice woman. I rarely ever saw any of those random outbursts that others have mentioned. Her class was also quite easy, and if it wasn't for not having enough time to finish one of the tests, I would've had an A. The downside is that Dr. Olsen often screwed up problems she did on the board and got lost easily. The students were constantly having to correct her or tell her how to do the lesson she was supposed to be teaching. This got to be frustrating. Overall, a nice prof and easy course, but at times, you'll have to play the role of teacher.

I took stats in high school, otherwise, i would have been completely lost! Not to mention that she treats her classes like they are in third grade. Our SI instructor knew more about math then the prof did. Its an easy a if you know statistics, and if you can stay awake.
