You really couldn't ask for a nicer guy. However, he is not the most effective teacher. Most of my learning came from reading the book. Labs are easy but painfully dumb, as all principles labs are. 3 tests @100 points each, online blackboard quizzes around 10 points each (many with two attempts), a few lab reports and a long ass final. If you read the book and just do what you're supposed to you'll be fine. To understand some of the hard subject matter, just go on youtube and search the topic; this helped a lot too!

Dr. Patrie is very passionate about what he teaches, and has a strong desire to see students do well. He is always around in office hours to help you with whatever you're having trouble with. The course has a lot of material so no matter who you take make sure you're studying! Dr. Patrie also held study sessions, which he hosted himself. I found these to be extremely helpful, especially before an exam! Dr. Patrie is also very personable, funny, down to earth, and friendly! Def. rec. taking this professor!!!

Regardless of who you take for Principles I and II the class itself is a lot of material and requires a lot of studying. But thanks to Dr. Patrie it was less stressful because he genuinely wants his students to do well and he exudes that everyday! He is always willing to have review sessions and his office is always open! The only thing is that the man is so intelligent that sometimes a 5 minute explanation could go on for a little bit longer but as long you refer to the text and even the book's website the concepts are mapped out a bit simpler. Don't hesitate to schedule his class!

This was a pretty hard class and I had to do a lot of work just to get a B. He is always around if you need help and if you go to him, hes really nice and will help you. He doesn''t rush through the material which some bio professors like to do. His tests were all mostly multiple choice and werent terrible if you studied. Take him if you have to take principles II.

This class was great. First off, he doesnt take attendence, so you can basically come whenever you want to. He teaches through power point, so the classes can get kind of boring, but if you just sit there, you'll be fine. He gives out a study guide that you're supposed to fill in, but if you ask him to go over the questions the day before the test, he'll give you all the answers. There's online tests, but they're simple and you can take them over and over until you get 100 and then email them in to him. The tests are EXACTLY the questions from the online tests, you memorize those, and you'll get 100 every time. There is one powerpoint presentation that is a group project at the end of the semester, but it's really simple and it only has to be like 5 minutes long and you can do it on anything. He's also real good with late work, or if you have to make up a test. If your looking for an easy A or B TAKE THIS CLASS!!

This is a great course for a gen ed requirement. He gives you the basic overview of Biology and his tests are very easy if you do the online tests he gives you in advance. One professor who realizes that his 100 level course should not be a hard course! Attendance is not graded.

Well, if you are going to take molecular, you don't really have choice. Dr. Patrie is the only one who teaches it. The class is very boring, but the information is good. If you try hard, you should do fine. The exams are sometimes in class and sometimes take-home. The take-home exams are NOT easy.

Dr. Patrie is a very knowledgable professor and does a good job teaching this class. Sometimes the lectures are a little hard to take, but the book is easy to read and understand, so don't worry if you have a hard time paying attention in class. Study hard and do the homework and you should do fine in this class.

Dr. Patrie cracks me up. I am not a Science person AT ALL but I actually look forward to class because he is great about keeping things interesting, answering questions, and making very cheesy jokes. If you're like me and often need profs to go over science/math stuff again, Dr. Patrie's a great choice to take. Also take him if you're searching for the least painful Basic Bio. teacher to fulfill your Science requirement. He's a very sweet guy who genuinely wants everyone to "get it". Take his class!

I've taken Dr. Patrie for several classes, including Principles of Bio (back before they screwed up and made it two classes), Cell Biology and Intro to Biotech. I have to say, I haven't been dissapointed with any of these experiences and I've come out of all of them having learned an enormous amount, some of which that acts as a basis for the classes I'm taking currently and will take in the future. Dr. Patrie is a very easy going professor, easy to get along with and more than willing to provide help, assistance or a good discussion outside of class. In class, he presents material mostly on the board and via the laptop projector, giving out powerpoint presentations for you to take notes on. Most of this usually ends up on the tests, but reading the assigned material further enhances understanding of the material and is definitely worthwhile. His class isn't necessarily the easiest to take and he'll make you work for your grade, but not to any overabundant degree or overwhelming amount. He assigns a healthy amount of work and projects to help you grasp the material. Overall, I personally have not had a bad experience taking him as a professor and would recommend him as a definite to any Biology major and a consideration for other majors who might get lucky enough to find him teaching a class you need to take.

This teacher is so smart, and know so much about biology, but he doesn't always explain himself well. His problem is that he gets too involved in what he is doing/teaching that he forgets were are a bunch of college kids. But he always gives a practice exam before each exam and 80% of those questions are asked word for word on the real exam. The rest of the questions come from your previous in class work and quizzes. Take him for an easy grade !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really nice guy. Pretty easy. Likes to see you do well. Gives a study guide before exams and maybe 80% of the questions are right from the guide. The rest of the questions are from previous quizes. Although his tests are easy, he is hard to follow in class. He gives you random information that is kinda hard to put together. He is a VERY SMART man. He seems like the type of guy that could be a good scientist or teaching at an Ivy League school. Great guy, Easy Class, A must take.

Dr. Patrie is one of the nicest guys you can meet, however he is not teaching material. He is never around and unorganized. All you have to do is just read the book yourself and save the trouble of coming into class for lessons and you will do fine. When he starts teaching he only confuses kids. Read the book at home, sleep in for an extra hour and you will do fine just make sure you read thoroughly.

Cell biology is a very challenging class. Unfortunately, having Dr. Patrie as the prof does not help you learn the material at all. He is a damn nice guy... Only problem is he can't teach! He is too smart to get his point across to the students. You go into his lecture and everything he says is just WAY over your head. If you can, take Dr. Elliot for cell biology. I heard that she is easier.

I agree with the person that said to take Dr. Elliot for cell bio. Dr. P is such a cool dude but when you are sitting in his class for 50 mins its torture. He is too smart to be teaching a lot of us. Everything is well over my head and I leave finding myself wondering what the hell we were even talking about. One midterm and one final are the grades for his class so GOOD LUCK cause you will need it when you are trying to learn 10 chapters for one exam.

First of all, I will say that Dr. Patrie is a very nice guy but he is so boring. His class is very easy however. Just do the online assignments and you should be fine. I got C's and D's on most of the tests and still got an A. His tests are hard and his lectures are boring and hard to take notes on but overall he wasn't that bad.
