I adore Dr. Paul! She is such a sweet lady! Her class can get very boring at times since all you do everyday is take notes but it is a relaxing class. She speaks softly and you can tell she is passionate about history. She has small quizzes worth 6 points every once and while and two map quizzes (so easy). She has no tests except a mid-term and a final. She gives a small extra credit at the end of the year. I had her my first semester of my freshman year and my second. She is a very easy teacher and she is so nice. Do your work, go to class, and take notes, those are the secrets to her class. Simple as that!

Dr. Paul is a very nice woman, she has an accent but it's not too bad. Her lectures are boring but her exams are only on the notes you take which is on the power points. 2 exams, 5 quizzes and 3 map quizzes. EASY!!! She gives a study guide for both exams and honestly the test IS whats on the study guide. How easy is that? Don't buy the books for the class bc you don't use them, you don't need them, its a waste of money. There is only 1 homework assignment from one of the books and she didn't collect it from us..you can just ask someone to borrow their book. Seriously, take this class esp if you don't like history. I got an A. I wish I could take her for History II but she didn't fit into my schedule. GREAT professor!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not the class for you if you are looking for any type of challenge. Dr. Paul is very relaxed and laid back. She is fair and nice. Her exams are on exactly what she gives you in the study guide, and as long as you do the work, you have an A. The only negative thing I can think of is that her classes aren't exciting. Overall, she's a good professor, and things in her classes are very straightforward.

This was an extremely easy upper-level history course. There are weekly quizzes on primary documents that, if you've ever learned anything about England at all at any time in your life, you should have no trouble passing. Exams were easy essays, and she always hands out study guides and answers any questions during review. She is a little hard to understand at first, but she is funny when you actually listen. She used to always tell our class about her stupid freshmen and complain about other professors. Not very professional, but hilarious. Just do the work and you'll be fine. There are always tons of make-up points Dr.Paul offers, like writing essays about movies that have to deal with anything British EVER; I did mine on the Jungle Book and got twenty bonus points!

Dr. Paul is one of the nicest professors at Ship. She usually ends class early and gives random days off, especially before an upcoming break. She outlines everything and not only gives you a study guide but goes over the answers to all the questions. She also goes off on tangents cuz she knows not everybody is into history and tries to make it better.I definitely recommend taking this class. But don't buy the textbook. It's a waste of money.

If you're looking for an easy history class, take Dr. Paul! I guarantee you will get an A (if you do all the assignments). She tells you what is on the test so really if you study just for a little you'll get an A. There's a really easy group presentations, some quizzes, which she tells you exactly what is on them. There's a lot of opportunities for extra credit. If you're really interested in history I probably wouldn't take the class though. She is really nice, but can become annoying at times when she doesn't know what she's talking about, interrupts your presentation, or gives you back your assignments soo late.. Honestly though, easiest gen ed I've taken and I'd recommend her.

She is adorable! I find her accent no problem at all. We always take notes on powerpoint but I don't find it boring. If she see's the class dozing off she will stop for a few minutes and just talk about funny stuff she heard on the news or what we have planned for the weekend or break. Her tests can be a little difficult because you will have to write a paragraph each on 3 or 4 out of 6 people or terms. It def sounds worse than it is. I've gotten an 88% as my lowest grade so far out of quizzes and tests.

Dr. Paul was and still is one of the nicest most amicable teachers I have ever had. She doesn't give much homework ever and her tests and quizzes are very straightforward. The only thing you have to watch out for is her multiple choice questions, they're very vague. My class did terrible in that section so she did away with it entirely. She will cooperate with you if you cooperate with her. I highly suggest taking her.

She brings food sometimes too. I would have taken her again but it didn't work with my schedule. Take her! -She has an Indian accent idk if you would have a problem with that. I personally didn't mind.

Dr. Paul was pretty effective. She lectures almost every class. I actually learned in her class. She tests you on important events and people. There are a ton of assignments in the class so it's easy to keep your grade up. She does have a tendency to treat you like you're still in high school. I felt like she almost cared too much about how well we were doing in her class. She also had a tendency to completely embarrass people in front of the whole class. Thank God that I was on her good side and she never did that to me.

Paul was a very effective teacher. I learned a lot from her lectures. Class is not too boring, she has power points to take notes off of. One bad thing about taking her in an upper level history course is that she grades much tougher than she does in her other history courses.. Overall, Paul is a very effective teacher but can be a tough grader.

What did Christopher Columbus do? If you can answer this question you will have no problems getting an A in this class. On top of the easiness of the subject matter Dr. Paul is one of the nicest professors you will ever run into. I found it amazing that some students did not do well in this class. To fail this class you would have to try very hard. Yes Dr Paul has an accent and sometimes fails to grasp some of our cultural concepts but her positive traits far outweigh her negatives. It is amazing that so many people have written negative comments about her... some are just borderline racist. If you have a chance you should take Dr. Paul.

She seems stiff and out of touch with American culture when you first meet her, but later when her uptight, passive aggressive comments come out, she makes you laugh so much. Ask questions and seem genuinely interested to pass. I had such a great time in this class. It's very easy, set a lot like a high school class. I loved it and I'll miss her a lot.

Wow. Who would have complained that Dr. Paul is a challenge? I've had harder classes in the fifth grade--seriously. Compared to her class, this is a walk in the park with no shoes on. All one needs to do in the class is do the readings and participate actively. As for success on the exams, you need to take good notes. She has amazing notes on her Powerpoint presentations...all you need to do is write them down! If you cannot determine the historical significance of Queen Elizabeth I, then you should not be in college--period. She is the sweetest woman I know, and she is real funny. I love her reaction the one day when no one participated in the discussions for the readings: "Oh...my...God. I hate to act like Hammurabi and lay down the laws, but you all should really make it a point to be active in the class." Just do the reading! She even says to skim through it! If you read, actively participate, take amazing yet legible notes, and show her your papers during office hours, you will do fine. She even gave Halloween candy to us at 9 in the morning. I cannot see how she is a cruel, agonizing woman--I enjoy her class because I am an admirer of British history; it's one of my favorite disciplines. She just wants to teach these sweet American college students a thing or two about history! If you cannot survive the intensity and amazement of Dr. Paul, then why are you in college in the first place? Honestly. Stop whining about her and do something--everything is laid out for you. Go for it.

For all of you who complain and say that she is hard to understand... she really isnt if you actually LISTEN. She lays out the exact info that you need, tells you exactly what is on the exams, and if you write EVERY detail that comes to your mind you will be fine. As long as you write a decent paragraph for an ID you will get a good grade. She is also a very sweet woman and I am truly offended by the worthless people who come to college and say that a professor who practically gives you everything is hard. You are at a university, you jackasses.

Prof. Paul is very nice and a fun prof. Her class was really easy, but almost too easy... she allows for papers and projects to be pushed back way too easily. Something I found funny was after she said something confusing, she'd ask "Is that clear?" I'm def taking her for history II.

Dr. Paul is the nicest professor on campus. I've had her for classes three times now (all different subjects) and her confidence is starting to come out a bit...which makes the classes even better. We had such a good time in her Southeast Asia class this year...the group projects were really nice and involving and Dr. Paul went out of her way to offer and cook us a feast of foods from Southeast Asia...which scared me at first...BUT IT ROCKED! The class was very interesting and we learned so much. If you haven't taken Dr. Paul yet...shame on you! The only thing that concerned me was that she is too accommodating to the students...she kept putting assignments off...which is great at first...but soon they all came due at the same time :( ...but it was still a great class.

Professor Paul is so nice and she is willing to help you if you need it. She tries really hard to make her classes fun. You do take notes but she tries to break it up by showing videos and before breaks she gives you candy and pizza. Her tests do require a lot of memorizing facts but if you make yourself a study guide, the tests are passable, even if you're like me with carpal tunnel syndrome. Overall, she is a great professor and I would recommend her.

1. don't waste your time with notes
2. don't pay attention to videos
3. don't do any reading whatsoever
4. DO review for exam...
(So, basically in her entire class I did like three reviews and got an A... some dumbass suck-up dipsh*t on the other side of the room read every single night and took notes every class and still did worse than me. I pointed at him and laughed like a pirate after we got the first exam back).

Yes this class is easy. Come to class (she takes attendance when there are not a lot of people in class of on Fridays) You copy down an outline from the overhead and that is what you do in class. Basically class is a waste because you can't understand her or what she is saying is hard to put down in note form... HAVE NO FEAR! The tests are easy if you study. The tests are ID form, and she is a tough grader. She likes you to remember the tid bits not many teachers care about. Group presentation... easy A no question about it. I recommend her, in all she is a really sweet lady and wants you to do well.

Dr.Paul has been unfairly rated by previous students IMHO!!! She was very available, was very explicit with what she expected, and was the most cordial and polite prof I can think of! Her class was extremely easy because she goes over things very well...in fact she will tell you exactly what is going to be on exams! If you cannot manage to get an A in this class you might as well drop out, because this is one of the few "in the bag" classes at Ship! Ignore the plebians and cretons that rated her negatively...they most likely showed up for 2 classes all semester (the first and last day).

Although somewhat nice she DOES NOT utilize Blackboard, and is very tough to work with. She is not very helpful to students who don't have much flexibility or have a family crisis that needs attending to. And if you need to make up work, just forget about it. That won't happen. Also, her English skills are lacking. Due to her inflexibility that I had to miss an exam to go home, and her refusal to allow me to take it the following class day, because my stepfather developed cancer, I am up for dismissal from the University.

Let me start by saying that Dr. Paul is a very nice lady. She is very sweet and she cares about her students. However she is very soft spoken and rarely has control of the class. She gives out homework assignments, but never collects them. Usually you just waste a class period with her saying “Come on, Come on”. She wants people to participate, but they rarely do. She is very boring, and only relies on her powerpoints. She doesn’t seem to know what she is talking about because she can never answer questions outside of her lecture. She is also very particular with her grading. If she doesn’t like your first essay, then it is doubtful that she will like any of your other writings. She is easy in the amount of assignments that she gives out, but not in the grading of them.

DO NOT BUY THE BOOKS!!! Most likely you can get "Siddhartha" the novel at the library. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOKS; they are a waste of money and you NEVER crack them open ONCE. Dr. Paul is a very nice teacher, don't get me wrong, but her class is a complete waste of time. I didn't learn anything in her WH 1 class whatsoever. When she talks about a civilization she talks about their religion and the different forms in which women were oppressed. If you know those 2 things, you'll ace her class. She gives ridiculous essay tests with NO ROOM FOR ERRORS. If you don't tell her everything about a civilization, miraculously things she didn't give you in the notes as well, then you just got a crap grade. Her projects take too much time and end up being crappy anyways because everyone does a slide show presentation while the rest of the class sleeps. Don't miss her classes unless you want to drop, and DO NOT SHOW UP LATE. She is very forgiving and flexible if you really are sick, but don't be disrespectful. Her class is a joke, but she doesn't like people thinking that.

Dr. Paul is a very very nice women. She does try to teach but she is very ineffective. She is very hard to understand and will usually not get your questions unless you explain them to her 3 times. In order to do good you need to do the following: 1. spend time looking up the answers to the test questions, then go see her with your answers to see if they are good or not. 2. skim through the sidhartha book and look up notes on it. 3. if she says there will be a quiz on the movie pay attention, it will be easy if you do. 4. show up to class as much as possible. Dr. Paul is a very hard grader, you must memorize every date of every thing that happened on the identifications, or else you will not do well. Take another teacher if possible.

Dr. Paul is by far the worst professor I had this semester. She can't speak English, she is not a consistent grader and she is not very helpful and her office hours are a joke. The one positive is she only assigns one four page paper.

Dr. Paul has no idea what shes talking about. During class she goes on rants about things we dont even get tested on and you can barely understand her through her accent. She plays favorites and if she doesnt like you, she makes that fact quite clear. When you go into see her for help she makes it sound the problem you came in for is all your fault and theres no hope. Overall she wasnt a good professor at all.

On the surface, Dr. Paul appears to be a very easy, nice professor. However, when you take her first test, you realize that your first impression is very very wrong. She is extremely nitpicky in her grading, asking you to remember a ridiculous amount of details and to write them all down in a very short amount of time. For the group project, she essentially screwed my group over by not explaining the project AT ALL until the day we presented, and then after we went, she criticized us in front of the entire class. She also freaks out about the littlest disturbances in her class, and overall is an evil, evil woman in a nice, normal person's body.

Honestly I dont think she knew what was going on half the time. Her notes seemed to be spur of the moment and off the top of her head. Studied for hours for her test and I got decent grades but dont take her if you want an easy class cause thats defintely not her. It's like being led around by a blind person through a mine field... so good luck.

Dr. Paul is the worst history professor. When it comes to tests, she is the pickiest grader ever. Even when she gave my class a take home essay, I still got a C+ on it, when I thought it was the best essay I wrote all semester. There is so many other negative things I could say but I won't go on. Just know that she sucks. If you get stuck with her, then god bless you. But in choosing professors, Dr. Paul is NOT the way to go!

Dr. Paul has good intentions but she is honestly one of the worst professors I have EVER had. She is not intelligent and gives wrong information. Not only is she boring and sounds like she is about to cry with every word she utters. If you have ANY interest in learning do not take her... Good Intentions, Terrible Approach

Dr. Paul is real nice in class when she's speaking to the group but outsided of class she is not very helpful. On tests she doesn't explain why she marks things wrong. When you go to her to ask what needs fixed, she just says that they are wrong...no explanation. She acts like it's a bother to come and talk to her and about questions you may have. Her tests don't seem to be hard but her grading is. I definitly don't recommend her class.

Unless you like to struggle to understand the information that comes out of your prof.'s mouth...don't take her! She is hard to understand, and doesn't make sense, she repeats herself constantly and you get nowhere...i swear that she talked about the Euphrates River being unpredictable for ten minutes straight! ONCE IS ENOUGH...her testing methods are horrible. She gives stupid little study guides with sooo much information on it and then she only uses about 1/3 of it on the test if that...so you memorize info you don't need to know, she hands out legal pad paper and is like go ahead and she puts whatever is on the test on the overhead. She says don't memorize dates, but when doing identifications she says give the dates...retarded?? Oh yeah!! This class was a waste of my time

In my personal opinion, this lady looks like a monkey. But besides that i stopped attended class after the first week. I showed up randomly for tests and when i did i received good grades. Although i failed with a 0.0 because i attended 5 classes. In regards to Prof. Chaka kandra Paul, shes a nice lady but hard to understand and remarkably resembles Mogli from "The jungle book"

Dr. Paul was so nice at first. She literally spoon feeds you everything, it's great. She gives you all the notes you'll need you don't even need your book. She tells you whats on the final and midterm. She was cool, except toward the end of the semester she started having random spurts of freaking out.. she thought someone was drinking alcohol because they used hand sanitizer. She may be bipolar. It was weird. And she always has the smile where she looks so happy but she hates you all at the same time. Class is easy though, I'd take her.

Dr. Paul is mostly a lecture class. She does a lot of mini 10 point essay quizzes, I learned that you have to elaborate a lot on these or you will do very poorly on them. That goes along with the midterm exam as well as you have to explain yourself VERY clearly in your answers or you will not do well. Other than her grading being a little hard, she is easy to get along with and is always willing to help.

Where to start... Dr. Paul is a very kind woman (she bought us doughnuts at the end of the semester). Her class is not difficult and her assignments are fair for a gen. ed. She is not threatening and is very approachable and seems well versed in the subject matter. She is however a boring professor, and her class is not very exciting (it could be the subject matter of course, but Dr. Paul didn't help it out any). Her accent will make you do a double-take every now and then, but it's nothing that gets in the way. Put a rubber band around your wrist so you can snap it every now and then to stay awake. As long as you're not completely comatose, you'll do fine in her class though.

I love Dr. Paul as a person, shes a very sweet lady and tries really hard. Sometimes she gets frustrated with students though and I felt bad for her because she's very timid. The class was very easy and I did learn a little but some of the things we did were extremely pointless, like the group projects for example. I would suggest her but there might be a better professor.

Dr. Paul is one of those profs that you learn over time that you can just take advantage of... She's a really sweet lady, and really has an interest in her students, but she's almost too accomodating in her assignments--all we had to do was complain once about a due date and she'd change it. At first this is nice, but eventually it gets to feeling like her syllabus for the course is pretty worthless. In her lectures--which make up the bulk of her teaching!--she'd usually pause after stating something and go, "OK?" or "Is that right?" and sound incredibly unsure of herself all the while... As if we're supposed to know the answers--she's supposed to be teaching us, not vice versa! It more or less made you feel like she wasn't really in charge of what was going on. As for the class itself, her exams are IDs and essay, not too difficult if you prep for them (same setup at Dr. Dessants' exams, just a million times easier to study for!). We had one big group project and a few papers, nothing to difficult and def. nothing that took very long to do. Overall, a nice lady that just needs to get some self-confidence!

I had a difficult time trying to pick wether I wanted this comment to be neutral or negative. I went the Neutral path only because she appears to care for her students and is somewhat nice. ON THE OTHER HAND... she says to come to her and is either never there or when she is, she doesn't help you at all. She cancells class with no regard for commuters who she may be their only class and they drove forever for nothing. She grades like a smart a** who just wants you to feel stupid. When other profs say I have excellent writing skill and she's the only one who says otherwise - it must be her problem. She marks things wrong that aren't and then doesn't fix it when brought to her attention. And she takes off points for not adding something in your essay that was not asked in the question - so how were we supposed to know she wanted that included in the answer if it wasn't asked? I don't know - she seems nice - but I think it might be an act to cover up snobbishness. She makes people feel stupid who have A averages. However, on a good note - the content of the class was interesting and the assigned readings weren't bad at all. She accuses of students of not reading, when maybe they just don't feel like talking in class. Then she blows up at everyone and acts like we never do any work for her class b/c we're always doing stuff for other classes "Why are my readings always the ones forsaken" THey're not... she just assumes so. I just don't know what to tell you. If you want to take a class thats interesting, learn stuff, and then be told that you dont know the material (even though you do), then take her. Decide for yourselves whether her intentions really are nice and sweet or if she is just putting it on because I can't decide. And I"m not just writing this like it only happened to me.... There are plenty of other A averaged students who feel she grades terribly too. Good Luck if you do take her - it will be interesting - just don't expect too much from her.

Dr. Paul is a very nice lady, but she is hard to understand. When she asks questions she tries to find a way that it is some what correct, but if it's wrong she'll tell you uhhh no. She's a very understanding teacher and tries to be as clear as possible. She also understands that we have lives and tries not to give out a lot of work. Her tests are difficult though, or at least I thought they were, but I'm a science major, soooo ya know. All I can say is if you do the work you'll do fine, when she grades journals and tests she looks for information from both the text and notes. All in all she's good.
