Dr Rim was one of the best teachers I had at Ship. He makes you learn the material on your own which benefits you the most (unlike Chiou who holds your hand most of the time) If you take him you will have to do work but overall you will benefit more. Its too bad he is only teaching graduate classes this year beucase I would have taken him again. He is one funny guy.

I like Rim! I liked this class, you learn some really cool stuff here. Plus Rim is a funny dude. You can get him off track easily and next thing you know, you're talking about thousand dollar exotic flowers. He let's you use a notecard for tests which is a very good thing - lots of formulas and stuff. His tests aren't bad, I don't know how some people got 60s and 70s. You'll find yourself confused a lot and wondering what this guy is talking about, but overall, you'll be happy with Rim. You have no other choice for 331 anyhow.

Subject: Most unfair professor  (Jan 15 2013, 11:45AM)

If you are planning to take him, prepare to make his class your life & prepare to hate him. He is unfair, unclear, and the worst professor I have come into contact with in my last two and half years. He makes simple concepts more complicated than necessary. The class work is completely different from the online work which is completely different from your exam. Don't even bother with his study guides, that won't be on the exam. He also gave a pop quiz the day after our exam because he said that our exam grades were higher than he wanted. Everyone that I spoke to had gotten around a C on the exam.. with the pop quiz factored in, the average in the class was a D. HE DOES NOT CURVE. He will call you a "stupid american" and tell you that you know nothing. He will not help you. He will not listen to your questions(he will wave his hand in your face and tell you there's no time for you). He will tell you not to raise your hand if you don't have the right answer. You will most likely want to hit him by the end of the class. Most people in my class dropped his class.

The day after the first exam, for which I studied 5+ hours and got an F, he gave us a quiz which was based on the exam worth 56 points. He said to show the work, but all I did was plug numbers into my financial calculator. He constantly bashes American students and says how poorly the economy is/will be because everyone is lazy. How Asian student test scores are going up while ours are going down. If facts are facts, fine, just don't come here and condescendingly and blatantly talk down to us all the time: you came here, we didn't ask for your opinions. Incredibly difficult professor, thinks students are retarded, and his teaching style is terrible. We need better finance professors!

This man is horrible!!!! First off I had a hard time listening to him write numbers on the board because he doesn't speak english too well. He doesn't teach you anything as you'll find out within the first weeks of class because with every problem he will tell you "you learn this at home." He gives you a study guide and a list of topics for the exams and allows you a cheat sheet but they dont help! The tests will have questions you never came across in the book or in class and really takes a lot of applied knowledge. My recommendation is to take a different teacher!

Subject: Avoid at all costs!  (Feb 17 2009, 12:50PM)

I would recommend avoiding Dr. Rim at all costs! The start of the semester you have endless assignments and readings with a ton of discussion board posts that count very little to your final grade as well as impossible quizzes every week that take hours of preparation. Exam questions are usually non related to the homework problems you spend the entire class going over. Essay questions on the exam hurt almost every student, if you do not write word for word what he wants... "hint" copy word for word essay questions right off your cheat sheet. If you get stuck with Dr Rim you have to teach yourself finance opposed to him teaching you anything, which is not what he's getting paid for his classes should just be online. Take Pan or Chiou

Rim is ridiculously hard! If you don't have to take him THEN DON"T. I am a pretty average student with above a 3.0 and this class was by far the hardest I have ever taken at ship. You learn absolutely nothing! DON"T TAKE THIS GUY

Rim is the worst. You can't understand him when he "teaches", his tests are impossible and everyone fails, he gives you quizzes AFTER the test on the same material so that you can fail again. His favorite catch phrase is "do it yourself at home" and if you want to do well at this class he means "teach yourself at home". This man is an ass...

He told us the first day of 332 that he was done teaching. He was right. We have done nothing and he doesn't seem to care. The final is going to be on everything from finance ever. Don't worry though because he basically makes up your grades and since they are major classes he won't give you anything under a C unless you are a major f*ckup. Take Pan for anything you can.

Didn't learn anything but I passed. His tests are ridiculous but he curves them. You also have a paper to write which was done as a group so it wasn't too bad. Be cautious before you schedule this guy!

I'm not sure what I got in this class yet, but I'm going to assume a B since I understand that's what everyone gets in the end. No structure to this class at all. The final...yeah, we didn't have chapters to review, just a sheet of "14 things we should know" - about half of which we covered this year. He's a nice guy, and he laughs and everything, but I would also say take Pan if you can. He grades a helluva lot harder, but at least you'll get something out of the class.
