This class was the hardest of all of my classes last semester. I received a "C" but I must say this, it was the most interesting class I have ever had to date. Bartoli's tests are pretty rough but she is an awesome person. She always had interesting stories to tell and could tell you almost anything about what you are learning. I still remember everything I learned in her class, the information sticks with you. It's a great feeling too when you pass a professor that you had semesters before and she still smiles and says hi and actually remembers your name!

Dr. Bartoli is great. Do not believe any of these comments that talk about how bad she is. I read them and was in shock when I took the class. She tells you how to study in the first class. Do what she says and you'll be fine. Her tests are not impossible they are just really long. If you have a talkative class it will really help you learn, because her classes are discussion based. Read the book go over your notes a little bit each day and you will be fine. Her papers are not pointless. They are due the day of the test and are used to help familiarize you with the material on the test. I understand how people will fail, if you want an easy A I don't think Bartoli is for you. If you actually want to learn she is the one for you. I was scared to death the first class, but once in the class I was pleasantly surprised with the class. It was very rewarding and the determining factor in me choosing psychology as a minor. Bartoli is great.

For psychology majors she's great, probably too hard for others. She really knows her stuff and makes class interesting. Her classes are class discussions, so she doesn't just lecture or make you take notes. Her tests are definitely difficult, but she really wants the best from her students. I loved having her and I'm taking her again.

Bartoli is a great professor. Yes, she is challenging, but she's not as hard as she's rumored to be. She is always willing to go over your work, give criticism, give suggestions, and try to help you improve the next time around. Classes are interesting and we always have good discussions. Yes, she is on the tough side compared to other prof's at Ship, but you learn a lot and it's a great experience.

The stuff she taught really stuck into my head. If you're not a psych major, you probably don't want to journey down the dark, frightening path that is "Bartoli." BUT if you're a psych major, at least take ONE of her classes!! You might as well get your money's worth and sign up for Bartoli, IT WILL HELP YOU IN THE LONGRUN! If you plan on going ANYWHERE with your psych degree, Bartoli can surely whip you into shape..... But im not going to lie, studying for her tests will make your brain turn to guuuuuu. So put off having a life for 5 days before the exam... ;)

There is a lot about Dr. Bartoli that people don't like, but the people that complain about her are the ones that don't do any work and fail. The class is great, it's fun to be there she doesn't talk to you she talks with you, it's not like listening to a teacher read the book for 75 minutes. To do well all you need to do is work, its college remember. This was by far the best class that I have had so far at Ship. O and just by the way, I was failing after the first test and I ended up with a B...WORK HARD AND YOU'LL DO FINE!

She isn't always prepared for class and is sometimes disorganized (especially her 45 page syllabus!) But her teaching methods keep you interested. She also has plenty of time to discuss things with you outside of class if you need to.

There really is not that much left to say that other comments havent adressed. Yes her tests will scare the life out of you, and the frequent papers may leave with many a red eyed evening spent in the library but thats not all there is to Dr.Bartoli. As she said herself once, she may be a very difficult professor but she is by no means a boring one, you will most certainly be entertained by her class. She likes to teach using a style that relies on interesting stories and fun comments which is actually more effective than many would give her credit for. The point is, if you read these reviews you know exactly what youre getting into with Dr.B, she is awesome but she is truly not for the faint hearted. You'll loathe her tests and fear her papers but in the end you'll be left with fond thoughts of her and her eccentricity. I'd take her again for sure. And I personally think the "I survived a Bartoli Test" T-shirts should be brought back.

I really enjoyed Dr.Bartoli's class, and that's why I decided to take another one of her classes this semester. I'm only a freshman too. The people who say she is really hard must not want to do very much work. This is college, we're here to do work, not sit around. She may be hard, but I learned an incredible amount last semester. The papers were not hard to do at all either! If you go to her, she helps you out so much that she basically tells you what to include in your paper! She just makes you figure it out instead of telling you. I got 2 A's and a B+ on the papers so they aren't as bad as theyre made to seem. If you don't want to actually use your head though, this isn't a class for you. It isn't a class for lazy people. I'll continue to take her classes.

Dr. Bartoli's class was always interesting and fun to go to. She does a really good job of explaining the material in a way that the students can understand it. Yes, she expects a lot out of you and you MUST STUDY for her tests or you will fail. She does give you a lot of work, but this is college, so what do you expect. [] Dr. Bartoli actually teaches in a way so that you LEARN something instead of just memorizing everything. What I've learned from her will really help me out in the long run.

Yes, the class is challenging, but if you are a psych major, take this class, you learn more than ever before, and though it seems like shes evil she really is a sweet lady who cares and wants to see everyone do well. It's 3 exams, and about 4 Problem Based Learning (PBL) papers... these papers help you out a lot for the Exams. she is very easy to get along with, and a deffinate Joy to be in class with.

Dr. Bartoli's class was not for the squeemish! It was a five week, summer, on-line course, and was very work intensive. Dr. B. did a most excellent job in feedback on the papers, and I feel that because of her, I have learned a great deal! Also, I think that what you get out of her course depends on what you are willing to put into it. I would take courses with her again because of the high standards she requires. The class material was challenging, but extremely interesting as well. I would recommend Psych of Social Influence with this professor. Thanks for the learning experience Dr. B. :)

I'm not going to lie: Dr. Bartoli's tests were the hardest of any of my classes, and most all of my classmates felt that way as well. With that being said, I still suggest taking Dr. Bartoli because I never once dreaded going to that class. Dr. Bartoli had many interesting real-life stories and fun in-class personality and psychological tests. The reason the tests are difficult (there were a total of 3, along with 3 group papers throughout the semester) is because she forces you to understand and apply the information, not just memorize it. If you're willing to put time into studying and learning the material, then I think you'll really enjoy Dr. Bartoli's class. Plus, she grades everything on a curve.

She is one of the best professors, although she is extremely demanding of all her students... who says that is supposed to be a bad thing! Her tests are hard but she is always willing to meet with you and help you with the material if you don't understand something. The problem-based learning papers can usually be a good thing to help your grade, just do them the way she wants them, and if you don't understand go see her. Just because she wants her students to understand psychology does not maker her a bad professor. If you want an easy A don't take her, but if you actually want to learn something she is a good choice.

Sure, she is tough, one of the hardest professors i've had but if you look over your notes and ask questions, you'll be fine.  Dr. Bartoli always was funny and kept you interested. However, even though you could use notes on the tests, they were tricky and oftentimes, notes did squat for you. She had one paper and some assignments. She makes you go to some psych-related lectures for credit. Gives a lot of extra credit, too. So though, her tests are frustrating, she's really funny and helpful.

Bartoli is one of the worst professors I've had. My freshman first semester she constantly talked about drugs and sex to get the classes attention and she just ranted about them sometimes. She even talked about her ex-husband and how she doesn't believe in marriages because they won't work out sometimes. Each homework on "Learnsmart" took me an average of 2.5 hours to complete because of how many questions you receive. You are given over 100 questions, and sometimes not even told about it and it will be posted a night or two before making it extremely difficult to get done, although the "Learnsmart" does count for a good portion of the grade and eventually you can get it done and keep guessing until you get a 100%. It was one of the biggest mistakes I've made taking her. And I can't forget about the tests. She has about 5 guesses and the way it is formatted she basically tries to trick you on every single question, and personally I would like to be tested on knowledge of things I actually know. Overall going to her class is a waste because she reads verbatim from the notes and can't do well at that either. Do not take her class if you care about your GPA, or your time. Even A students will have a very difficult time. I would suggest taking a different class and waiting until next semester where I could get a different professor.

Don't take Bartolli, and if you do DON'T drop her class midway through. She'll pass you even though you have an F. She plays favorites. And whatever you do don't argue with her. Just let the water flow under the bridge. Agree agree agree. You should get at least a C. She never thinks her teaching is her fault. She is intelligent but not very good at getting her information across. Several times I had to explain things to the whole class and I still only received a C

I had her a couple of semesters ago. I disagree that the class was fun. It was only interesting sometimes. I like her as a person maybe and her personal view seem similar to mine (god help you if they aren't) but I didn't like her class at all. I think it was the least favorite class I have ever had. I didn't like her style of lecture and sometime the examples used seemed wrong. It was boring because we got derailed so much and she asked everyone in the class to answer questions like we were in kindergarten. We didn't follow the syllabus at all which made it seem disorganized. She wanted discussion but doesn't seem to like anyone to disagree with her. I could go on but I won't. It is enough to say I would not recommend it at all.

The reason I got a good grade is because she curves everything so much. And it's not that I didn't study. I did study...a lot...for hours and but she makes the tests really difficult. She's also sarcastic when students ask her honest questions and that gets annoying. Her class is fun and interesting, but when it comes to the grades, she sucks. My whole class would have failed if she didnt curve our grades...not because we're lazy and never did study...because she can be ridiculous. With that said, she is a nice person and her classes aren't too boring.

Dr. Bartoli is the WORST professor at Shippensburg. She teaches by reading the book to the class and requires you to get into groups and write completely random papers that you learn nothing from. She doesn't even explain what the papers have to be about. The tests are IMPOSSIBLE, with a curve most of my class still got C's and D's.  This was the second class I took with Bartoli. Originally I thought she was an OK prof. with hard tests and group papers that sucked but if you put in enough time and effort and went to see her, you'd be fine. Then for this class, she discussed my grade on a test in front of the entire class which is completely inappropriate and unethical for a professor to do. She also tells the class that receiving a 60% or better on the first test is good!? How can a D possibly be good? That will significantly hurt your grade even if you do well on everything else in the class. She's nice and she thinks shes doing her students a favor by teaching this way but really, it just doesn't work. Out of a class of 20 people, probably only 5 students can get an A or a B. I wouldn't recommend taking her because it's just not worth it. Sure, I learned stuff in her class but not any more than I learned in any of my other classes which didn't involve her style of teaching.

Dr. Bartoli is a nice lady outside of class but honestly she has to have a few screws loose. Her 3 hr night class was a complete waste. I say this because she didn't teach! She puts all her notes online, which is wonderful; however because she does this she basically wants you to teach yourself and your group members. Her form of assessment is yet another joke! She gives essay based tests which are almost impossible. In my opinion these tests don't even assess what students actually learned. She also gives problem based learning (pbl) questions for a group of 5 to write a paper on in a week. This I also don't think is a very good way to assess students either! As an education major I am very disappointed after taking this class... not only do I feel unadequately educated, I also feel the assessments were unjust. Dr. Bartoli needs to take some basic education classes before she should be allowed to teach. Suggested classes would be classroom management, assessment and evaluation, or elements for instruction. I feel bad because she really is a nice lady but that's about it though so spare yourself and pick a different prof =(

I honestly think that she doesn't realize that students have more than one class... she makes u write papers that are due in less than a week. For a 3 hr night class she wastes more time than she actually teaches. That is if u call what she does teaching!!!! If by chance ur stupid and u have to take a class w/ her... take it pass/fail at least it won't hurt ur gpa and for cog psych don't bother buying the book we didn't use it anyhow!

Dr. Bartoli is a nice woman, and is a very effective lecturer. HOWEVER, she expects her students to read her mind. Her "problem-based questions" are the worst things ever. I'm not a fan of group projects in general, but in this case you are stuck with the same group all semester, and it can be a real problem if you get people who don't feel like working hard, or who just don't care. For the P.B.Q's she will give you words and expects you to form a question you think she WOULD ask, and write a whole paper on it complete with research and all. If you get the question wrong, you will do the whole paper wrong, and will essentially be screwed. I'm shocked that I got a B- in that class b/c I was sure I had a C at best. If you get stuck with her, my advice would be to participate a lot in class, DO THE READINGS, take good notes (even though they're all online anyway), and listen to her when she gives you hints on how to study. She is usually available for help and says she wants to see her students succeed (which is questionable at times). I personally learned a lot in her class, but it was a struggle the whole way through and I'm glad the semester is over.

Basically I have nothing good to say about her. Her class was a waste of time... I learn nothing! She makes everything 10x more complex then it should be and like someone said before me she thinks she has this "new" type of testing. They are stupid essays that in no way test what you really know. She also puts you into groups to write papers which were a disaster. In most cases she gave the group a week to write a 6-8 pg paper. Which isn't too bad if you didn't have to work w/ 4-5 other people and all contribute. She has a very unorganized way of teaching and if you're smart you'll save ur time and take a different prof.

She was so hard, but so nice so its not really fair to call her a bad prof...don't take her unless you are very good at reading and applying what you read to indebth questions on the tests!! They were mult choice for the most part, but the choices were a, b, c, a and b, b and c.....etc....and very very hard to answer correctly!! Very nice lady, but very hard prof!!

This woman is by far the worst teacher EVER. I have no idea how she has been able to teach at this university for so long. In our 3 hour night class she has maybe taught 1 hour worth of notes, which by the way she reads off her own paper. She has no idea what to say when you ask a question, and her usual response is ...."Well what do you think the answer is?" Now, with her new Problem Based Learning technique of teaching she gives you these statements that make no sense and tells you nothing about them. She expects so much from the papers that are due every week....which she usually gives D's on. I would recommend to never ever take her, especially if you think that psychology could even be a little bit interesting.

Bartoli is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She has no idea what she's talking about, she reads her lectures from the notes you print out off the internet, which make no sense at all. Her tests are impossible and she makes you write a paper every week and doesn't instruct you on it at all. The class is only a gen. ed but she acts as if we are pysch majors. I advise you to stay as far away from her as you can.

I took this class as a GenEd. Her class was the most difficult class that I have ever taken. If you are not a psychology major or minor then do not take her. To her credit, she makes class extremely interesting, and I was never bored in class, but my grades suffered from the complexity of her tests. Unless you need psychology later on in your college studies or later on in life do not make your GPA suffer.

Like many professors do, I guarantee you that she wrote most of the positive comments so that it doesn't stop you from taking her class. I've talked to many students who have had her and they all say they will never take her again. She does know her stuff but this class is designed for you to fail and then she will curve your grade big time. Everything about this class was extremely hard and the exams are unreasonably long. She is very nice most of the time. If you take her, plan on working harder than you ever have before in a class. I received a good grade but I worked my *** off. I don't remember any more from this class than I do from some of my easier classes.

Not gonna lie, Bartoli is tough. Her expectations are set high but she knows her psych and class discussions were usually really interesting. She incorporates real life scenarios and her family stories, it's always something different. Tests are next to impossible but nothing in psychology is so easy. If you want to learn and don't mind hating your life for a few hours doing homework or studying for a test I recommend Bartoli.

If you want an easy professor then I would not advise taking Bartoli. She is an extremely difficult professor. There are 3 exams she gives with one being the final. There are homework she posts every now and then that she wants you to use the concepts for the homework. Do not expect to do the homework 5 minutes before class and expect to get a good grade. Her exams are very hard and you must really study hard for them. She does offer study sessions before each exam and I would suggest going to them. They do help if you also study on your own. She grades on a huge curve which definitely helps. Be ready to work hard in her class to get a good grade.

Bartoli is, in general, an okay teacher. If you're looking for someone to go in depth and really test you on the material, she's your girl. However, she does make you feel incredibly stupid most of the time if you by chance do not know as much as her. This class started out interesting, but has been a downward spiral since. Her tests are really rough but she does curve. I'm not a fan of using a curve.. Instead of bringing up the entire "failing" class to pass, why not redo your method of testing because to me, it's a dead give away that something is obviously not working. Personally, the exam questions/answers she gives are confusing and cause me to second guess myself, leading to more wrong answers than I'd love. If you are a great test taker and feel comfortable with her way of testing, I'm sure you'll do fine. She is not for me.

I took her class only because it fit my schedule and I needed a Gen-Ed. Once again, the Gen-Ed classes are normally the hardest. For some reason, she thinks that everyone wants to learn about the material. Its frustrating. She does encourage class discussion, but it doesn't help teach the subjects. Tests are completely multiple choice and too long. She assigns three papers that are graded...oddly. She doesn't give out an actual assignment. Take her if you like Psychology. If you're trying to fill a Gen-Ed, do not take her.

I give neither a negative nor positive comment. I agree with EVERYONE that she is extremely difficult. She does, however, give ridiculous curves on her tests, but grades papers like a 300 level writing class professor. I've always been great at writing papers (A's or B's on other papers in other classes), but I, along with the rest of my classmates, couldn't seem to meet her standards which are extremely high. She also doesn't give enough time to complete the papers. On the other hand, she makes the class about as interesting as possible because of her good personality and sense of humor. So, if you're up for a very challenging class, AND you're a psych major, go for it. Otherwise, rethink your options.

Dr. Bartoli is a very nice person. She has a great sense of humor and she is very intelligent. Bartoli has a different way of teaching. As she says, she's teaching you how to learn. The way that the class is run might throw you off. Instead of answering questions, she asks you another question. Basically, she uses some form of Socrate's question and learning method. If you're a freshman, don't take her... yet. Pick another professor so that your adjustment to college is smoother. She is tough even in a foundation class. Her tests are not a good way for your GPA to start out. She's NOT a horrible professor! She is a TOUGH professor. There is a difference. Learn it.

Dr. Bartoli's class was a very difficult class to say the least. The papers are tough until you figure them out. Once that is done you can do really well on the papers...it saved my grade. The tests (sorry Dr. B) are a joke. You can know your stuff but get so confused by the way the questions are worded that you miss the point. Some of the questions are opinionated in their response in that you can have several meanings. I never studied so hard for a test in my life and still only managed to get between a 54% and 60%...ugh!!! She will help you but she is also very busy. When she is in her office she oftentimes has a line waiting to see her. She does curve the tests EXTREMELY which should tell her that if she has to do that to have anyone pass, the tests are too hard. But like I said she is willing to help you and is very considerate. I do like her and did learn a lot from the class so she did her job. I guess thats all I can ask for in a professor.

She took the time to learn everyone's name which is rare in a professor. Her teaching style is pretty boring, she just goes over the online notes. Missing class is not good though because she takes points off your final grade. She also has pain in the ass "problems" that you have to solve in a group. Essentially, they're long ass essays you have to do with annoying people. Her tests are also pretty damn hard. However, I learned a lot in her class and shes a cool cat. I probably won't take another one of her classes, but if you want a challenge, I recomend her.

Bartoli makes a lot of the information come alive in class, but her group projects are hellish. The first one my group did, we failed miserably. Correcting it hardly did anything. She doesn't really specify what you're supposed to do in the paper... it's more like you blindly grope about until, about the third paper in, you finally get the hang of it. She's always willing to go over tests with you individually, though, and seems to be very nice. I liked her as a person, and she was okay as a teacher.

Definitely an interesting prof. She obviously has her favorite students and if you aren't one of them, you are screwed. The PBL's are a good learning tool if you know what you are supposed to be learning about in the first place. Her notes and lectures leave a lot to be desired and usually have you leaving class with more questions that go unanswered, sometimes permanently. I feel as though I got very little out of her class. But a good prof to take if you can read minds!

Dr. Bartoli makes you want to change your major b/c she is so hard. However, she knows her stuff, and by the end of the course, you will too. She's always willing to help you-go to her office. Her tests consisit of multiple choice and an essay that is like the problems you do in class. She makes you apply what you've learned though. The multiple choice is a, b, c, a&b, a&c, etc., so she tries to psych you out. Her whole class was PBL (problem based learning) so you worked in groups to solve problems. She gives you all the notes and she has study sessions...go to them! She makes you want to change your major, but it's worth it.

Dr. Bartoli makes a great effort to get to know her students. She makes jokes and makes class fun but sometimes overlooks the fact that she is supposed to be teaching us. I spent hours studying and the tests baffled me quite often. She expects everyone to know everything she knows which makes the tests rather diffciult unless you've memorized the chapters. She gives a research assignment that needs to be in APA style which she graded everyone fairly hard on. The positives to the class are that she doesn't take attendance and she gives quizzes (maybe 4 the whole semester) that will be bonus points toward your tests. She also curves, but don't let that fool you...I had to work for my A-.
