Subject: Can't understand her!!  (Mar 22 2010, 03:35AM)

Her classes were all lecture. Every now and then there was a movie and most students snuck out of class. She gave bonus points when there weren't many students in class, so it's good to go. Overall she's insanely boring. Good idea to bring a laptop to class because it takes too long to write all of the notes she goes through. I couldn't understand a word she said, but she let us have a cheat sheet for every test, so overall she wasn't too bad.

The highlight of being in ship was watching an ex Russian Military Instructor ask U.S. Navy recruiter's about the Philadelphia Project. This is an excellent Professor that knows her subject matter inside and out. She will do anything to help you understand the material. Tests are hard but E&M is hard. Read the book study her notes and go over the homework and it is done.

Subject: the easiest class you will ever take  (Nov 04 2009, 02:14PM)

This is hands down the easiest class I have ever taken. [] You can not understand her so take your laptop to class. There is no work outside of class. There is no book work... I never even bought the books and managed to get an A on her first two tests. She gives you a study guide and she doesn't care if you use notes which is what the tests are on... so if you want an easy A take this class because an A in her class is an 85 and above. Its just boring and attendance is not important for her class what so ever.

Subject: Awesome  (May 13 2008, 10:00PM)

Yes, she is from Russia so she has a heavy accent, and at the beginning I couldn't understand her very well, but at the end of the semester she was crystal clear. She does mess up grammar sometimes but you know what she is trying to say. But for the actual class, all you do is take notes, thats it.. but it is a lot of them. Her grading scale is simple, and her 4 tests are all 50 multiple choice with at least 5 bonus questions. I really enjoyed her class and would highly recommend her for any class because she is very passionate at her profession.

...If you consider grammar problems interesting. I'm not saying she's a bad teacher, and I understand that this is her second language, but her grammar is her biggest setback. So much so that if you have a problem with bad grammar, then it might be hard to sit there and listen to her. However, if you don't like math, you need something repeated seven times to understand it, and you just want to get this gen ed over with, be my guest, I'd suggest her for all of us with mathematical nightmares from high school...Good Luck!

This lady is amazing! Her classes are pretty boring but if you can get past that you will do fine. Study a little bit for her tests and you will do ok. Her grading scale is a piece of cake!

Dr. Semuskina is the greatest prof in the Physics Dept. She had an interesting class even though it was mostly lecture I would reccomend this class for anyone.

Subject: Easy, if u can understand her.  (Mar 15 2005, 06:04PM)

She is a nice lady, just wants to teach physics. Tests are easy b/c they are multiple choice, and the exercises/quiz things are done with a group and you can take them home to finish if you do not finish in class. I know her accent is annoying at times, but just go, she'll give you a good grade in the end. Sometimes she curved our tests too!

Dr.Semuskhina did a good job at presenting the difficult material. Most of the class was lecture based as well as problem solving in groups. The labs were not difficult as well. There are 3 midterms (15% each) and a final 20% as well as homework 15% and lab 20%. The tests were generally difficult, however, most of the problems she put on the test were ones that she already presented either in the homework or notes so if you study, you should be able to do well in her class. She is a good and helpful professor. I recommend her!

Subject: Dr. Semushkina is good!  (May 14 2004, 11:13PM)

Dr. Semushkina is a sweet, incredibly intelligent, little Russian lady who came to America to teach kids physics. Her class is very straight forward, quizes are take-home and you usually get one every week. You will definitely see at least one question from every quiz on the next test. Her tests are twenty multiple choice and four problems. The multiple choice questions are generally easy and the problems are impossible unless you studied the material and did your quizes. Her grading scale is very generous and there is no excuse not to earn an A in her classes. I highly recommend Dr. Semushkina for any class she teaches.

what a cute little Russian lady...the class is def boring though. she doesnt take attendance, so as long as you can get the notes..you dont have to go to class and you can still pass the tests with flying colors..you dont even need to buy the book...easy, easy class

Class:Intro To Physics (A)

Semushkina is a very easy professor. There are 3 tests and a final and all are MC. Class is kinda boring in that all you do is take notes for the first 2/3rds of class and then watch a video for the rest. But her tests are directly from the notes and there is really no out of class work at all. This was an easy A and I would definitely recommend her.

If you don't know much about physics, take her! She's offers extra credit on the tests (you retake old tests) and quizzes are take-home. Not too bad!

All the quiz's are take home. Tests weren't that tough, if you do poorly on an exam, she'll give you the opportunity to increase your score with a makeup quiz worth 10 to 20 point. So, there's no excuse to get less then an A in this class unless you're a lazy ass slacker. I had no prior Physics classes, as in High school, and I got A's in Physics I and II. Take her if you can, she's always available to help you and wants to see you do good.

Subject: Really?  (Oct 19 2010, 02:59AM)

Class:Physics 1/lab (A-)
12 of 37 students found this review helpful.

Can't believe there aren't more negative comments. She is a nice lady, however she doesn't answer a single question because basically she doesn't understand your questions due to a language barrier unless you rephrase them 3 times. I went into the class thinking her heavy russian accent wouldn't bother me but I was wrong. Her powerpoints are as bad as her english, it's hard to write down everything when it doesn't make sense grammatically. In lab she doesn't answer questions and sort of lets you figure out the lab on your own. Her tests include more problems than I expected and she doesn't go over the problems in class, and if she does go over basic ones she rushes through them or doesn't give the answers! My advice is to taken Armen, from the beginning.

Her English is terrible and she doesn't teach well. She reads from her powerpoints too fast and refuses to put them on blackboard. Everything I learned in the class I taught myself. Don't take her!

If you have to take physics II you probably have no choice. There is a lot of note taking- I mean a lot and she gives you no time to take them down. There is no particial credit. The only good thing about her is her huge curve.

Subject: OK Class, but the teacher needs some work  (May 13 2005, 02:57PM)

The class was OK, but a little boring. The teacher, however, was not very effective. She was sometimes hard to understand, and she taught the class as if it was a high school physics course. We did practically NO math, and the exams were 40 multiple choice questions. You could get an 'A' in this class without ever studying. I know, because I did! I had Dr. Cohen last semester for Physics I and learned 20X more than I did this semester. Easy class, but you will not learn physics.
