OMG, his class is awesome. His jokes are tasteless and shallow, BUT are used to make obvious points on his teachings... not the best teacher, but a hell of a good guy.

I've had Stambaugh for a bunch of classes, none of which are inherently fun or interesting, but for each one he knew the all the material backwards and forwards and could actually teach it. Almost all of the computer science profs know their stuff, but not all of them can relate it to someone who hasn't had it for the last 20 years. His classes are extremely educational, funny, and very fair. It's not an easy class, he makes you work for your grade, but you won't mind as much as you think because you're actually learning as you're doing it. I would take him for every class if I could. Like someone said above, it will indeed be a sad day for the comp sci department when Stambaugh retires.

Once you understand that all his tasteless jokes are just jokes and nothing more, you not only learn a lot, but laugh a lot too. He goes over problems at the end of each chapter as a way of teaching the material. Make sure you take good notes for two reasons. One, because questions EXACTLY like these are on the tests. No less than a week before each test, he'll email you the exact questions that are on the test, minus the variables you need to solve the problem (he emails you a lot, by the way...got almost 200 messages from him in one semester). And two, he goes around the room row by row, chair by chair asking students questions during class. You'll look like an idiot if you can't answer him. The labs he gives are pretty easy, mostly consisting of copying code out of a book and modifying it. Bottom line, you will learn a lot from this guy.

What can I say? F*cking Stambaugh! The man is a genius when it comes to teaching the most boring sh*t effectively. His sense of humor may grate on the "uber-politically correct", but he keeps you awake and listening! He exemplifies how a college professor should teach: He keeps students paying attention, he teaches interactively, going down the line drilling students on previous material, his projects are difficult and educational, and his tests are hard as hell; but he sends out a guide at least a week prior. The day he retires will be a great blow to the Shippensburg Comp Sci dept.

I've learned the material better than i have in any class in my college career. I know more about networking than i thought possible. He's so intimidating you're scared into paying attention.

I think Dr Stambaugh is an excellent professor. He is not too demanding work wise, but provides enough work that you know what the class you are taking is about. His tests are really easy, so long as you attend class and know what is going on in general. He has a way of making class enjoyable. I believe the only ways anyone could have a problem with Dr Stam would be that they are not very attentive in class, frequently absent, or too uptight for his non-stop jokes.

Stambaugh is definitely one of the most odd/interesting professors there is. All he talks about is sex, classic rock groups, and JLo. His personality can be quite irritating and his random use of profanity can become annoying, but whatever he teaches, you will definitely learn it. I learned so much from his course. Hope I can take him again.

Stambaugh is a good prof. Typical of his style, classes for this course consisted of working out problems from the end of each chapter. Partial exams are emailed ahead of time, so you know exactly which types of problems you need to be able to solve. A few minor assignments, nothing too difficult. Easy prof, you learn a lot when you're in the class, but as soon as you pass it you forget it all.

so one day in class we are learning about data base theory. some kid goes "hey stambaugh how will the computer be able to understand the < > signs. Well stambaugh made the kid want to go into hibernation, but he explained the anwser to the question like no other human could making the student realize that he in fact is a human being, and humans can comprehend < > signs. Stambaugh is a great profesesor and he makes classes interesting. In fact I think when I am in a stambaugh class its like there is a fire lit under my ass, keeping me awake and ready to learn. Stambaugh you rule, and you know your stuff. note: stambaugh loves email, expect 15 emails a week from him

Well for those light at heart for sexual innuendo, sexual connotation, old person humor, beer jokes, drug abuse jokes, embarrassment and an all-round funny proffessor, stay away from Stambaugh. He always jokes about his drug abuse (which was probably true at one point since he can pick up the smell of herb very quickly), his old age, his drinking and a lot of sexual natured material. He is a great prof and I recommend him to anyone seeking an easy yet effective class environment.

Stambaugh, or stamblepatch or starmblartch as he often refers to himself is the funniest man alive. He's bitter about something and engages teh class by poking fun at them. very enjoyable class...easy to go to. Work is not hard and he will always help out if need be. Enjoy his stories and outrageous comments. At lease one F-bomb per semester.

If you pass up an oppurtunity to have this man teach you a class, you're borderline retarded. He's by far the funniest guy out there WHO ALSO teaches you what you need to know. I've yet to find a match of learning and entertainment in all my life. On top of that, he doesn't even care if you show up, as long as you do your work. The guy is by far the best teacher in the business. Stambaugh.... do you ever wear pants?? And I sweat too, so I'm telling you, undershirts really help.. and they make v-necks if you still want the chest hair to stick out. Keep on rock'in!

Stambaugh is the best. He's hilarious, he gives you a "study guide" for his tests (which is just the test with the numbers blanked out), he'll go over any of the questions from the test the day before, he doesn't take attendance (he even jokes with the guys that never go about it), and he's simply awesome. Take him.

He's a great professor. He emails you the review sheets for tests weeks before the tests. They are exactly like the real tests except the numbers are different. He never gives you any surprises on anything he assigns and he makes a lot of jokes during class. You do have to do some work outside of class but it's worth it. I took him again for computer organization. One wierd thing is that he sweats... a LOT..

Stambaugh knows what he's talking about and actually makes boring material fun to learn! This is the second class I've had him for, and for both I learned more than in any other compsci class. In DBMS we had 3 tests and a final, and a few large programming assignments. It's not a huge workload but the programs can take some time. Be ready to spend some late nights finishing those programs. He's a funny guy... TAKE THIS PROF if you can! He's one of the better Compsci profs at Ship!

This guy I had no faith in. Yeah, he's funny, but I got the impression that he had no idea what he was doing. I mean, he was like, "Let's try this and see if it works" and it didn't. I was like, ack. I'm sure he probably knows something, but between the crappy old computers and his scatterbrain...I dropped the class.

First and foremost... if you are not a computer science major, do not take this professor. Yeah, he may be funny with his constant sexual humor, but it will get you nowhere in the class. I really do not know why non-comp sci majors have to take this course. It is basically useless stuff from when computers were first built. If you have another option other than this course, take that option!

Stambaugh is definitely a character. His class is crazy with all the sexual/drug toned jokes. The assignments are difficult, but you can e-mail him or go to his office for help, however, it's not always the answer you're looking for. Be prepared to receive about 100 e-mails in this class -- often with several revisions. His tests are challenging, but fair because he sends you the study guide (with the exact questions from the tests, just certain parts blanked out) a week or more in advance. He'll give extra credit if you go above and beyond on your programming assignments, and he'll be leanient with due dates if you explain the situation. Some days I thought he taught very well, composed and prepared; other days I thought he was completely scattered -- hence, the neutral rating. Nevertheless, I'd have to say it's more on the positive side than the negative.
