I love the CJ Department, and am very happy to be taking the major, but if I could suggest one thing for them to change, it would be to FIRE this lady as soon as they can! First of all, her grading scale is screwed up. I doubt she grades you based on how you actually did, rather it's whether she liked you or not. Secondly, she makes you do two group projects, and then doesn't show up for any presentations. Hmm.Third, she likes to give you lots and lots of trick questions on her exams. With answers like Both A and B, all of the above, or none of the above, it's easy to receive a poor grade, leave it to her to make you THINK you are getting a good one. The class lectures are all power point and extremely BORING. You'd be better off NOT reading the book. Nothing she tested us on was on it!! Her class is a waste of time, and a waste of my money, and I can say that I learned nothing. DON'T TAKE HER!!

I heard all the things about Waltermyer before I took her class. I didn't want to take her but I, like many other helpless students, didn't have a choice. At first she seems ok, not the nazi everyone claims. She's usually not a total B*tch to your face but if she doesn't like you it will show up. SHE TAKES ATTENDANCE!! She does not take roll but she marks it down quietly as people walk in, and if you miss "too many" whatever she deems that to be you will get bad grades because she will assume you do no work. The shitty part is class is a total waste of time and it is never stated that attendance is mandatory. If you have to take her, go to class and suck up, and don't forget the phone number when you do your interview or she'll take 20 points off because she can.

don't take waltermyer if you can help it. her grades are totally random with NO explanation as to how she came up with it (except on her tests, which are graded ok). it seems like part of your grade is based on whether or not she likes you. she also doesn't seem to want to help her students with anything and she's not too available. i have to take comm law and i passed on it for next semester just because i would have had to take her. avoid her at all costs.

You learn nothing and she grades everything randomly...I'm sure her grading scale is not legit.

Prof. Waltermyer is never around for help. She gives projects that she doesn't explain well and gives bad grades on them. Her tests are hard. As a PR student, she did not teach anything! Avoid her if you can, she is the worst prof. in the dept.

Gives grades on a whim...not what you really deserve and she'll tell you that too. Drones on and makes you do useless projects that she doesn't turn up for. Avoid her like the plague.

She gives you no direction at all with your projects..I think she just picks a grade at random to give you. She never explains how you can improve them or what you need to do better. And direction is def. what you need in an intro class! I know people who quit comm/journ because of her class.

She is a nice person in general but I have learned nothing from either of her classes. She expects lots of group work outside of class which is hard for a commuter student to do. She doesn't help you at all in News Writing. As long as you write exactly what she wants you should be ok. Her tests are random though. Overall she is an ok professor but it's kind of like teaching yourself.

Waltermyer is an interesting character to say the least... She is incredibly cynical about the PR field and life in general. It makes you wonder why she is a prof to begin with b/c she rarely has anything positive to say about the profession. Most of the projects you do are with your PR firm and is group work so it isn't too bad. The book and her PowerPoint presentations are incredibly boring, but you should pay attention and take notes b/c it all shows up on the tests. The tests (2) aren't too bad. Just study and watch out for trick questions b/c she likes to mess with your head. There's an interview paper she makes you do which is a bit of a pain in the ass, but it's kinda interesting. Basically you are to interview a PR professional about their job and write a paper on it. Simple for the most part, but the hardest part is finding someone to interview. Once you get that over with, the paper is cake. The campaigns you have to do are also a pain in the ass, mostly b/c a lot of what you need to know for the project she teaches you AFTER the step is over with... You really have no choice but to take her for some classes, but just try to make the best of it. It's really not hard...I had a 101 class the same semester that was harder than Waltermyer's class.

Even though she does give grades on a whim, she isn't all that bad. All you have to do is pretend you are interested and you will do well in her classes. Study the notes!!!

Gives random grades to papers. If your paper is an A, but you forget to put the class number or something trivial she will give you a D or a C...just because she can. She is tenure so nothing can be done about her. I learned nothing in her class.
