This class was pretty easy. Dr. Stewart is cool and laid back, which was counterproductive for me. Profs that I know mean business get the most out of me, so if you need constant pressure then maybe he's not the guy to take. The Wallops Island field trip is sweet.

He was the best professor I probably could ever ask for. He made class fun, very easy and was an easy going guy. His work was so easy that it was almost a joke. His tests were easy and if you complained about a question being too hard, he gave you the credit for it. He was a push over but seriously an awesome prof. Recommend taking him!

Dr. Stewart is an amazing professor, his lectures are interesting and informative and he is very accessible to his students. It's hard not to do well with a teacher like this.

Prof Stewarts class was very interesting. He is a really nice guy. There were 3 or 4 tests and he gave you hints on possible ?s and sometimes lets you make up the questions. Only one project and a really cool simulation. You would also have to do quizzes with a one page "cheat sheet" and write current issues that weren't bad at all. If you do what he asks and read the notes a few times before the test you should do well in his class. Hes a really cool guy and his class isn't hard at all.

I really do not enjoy science classes. A few semesters prior, I took Chemistry and had not enjoyed it at all. As a senior, I needed to take two more category c classes and Problems of the Environment was one of them. Dr. Stewart is a fun professor to take. His class was entertaining, although it was also very easy. Most of the time Dr. Stewart would lecture through class using power point slides, although he would also ask for student interaction among these lectures, and would provide additional information. However, it sometimes would get annoying as Dr. S would make jokes about sex and farting...the freshmen thought it was funny, but for a senior, perhaps we could do without the crudeness.
The class itself was very easy. So many Fridays I was tempted to skip class (as it was my last class of the day) so that I could take a drive or go shopping. The temptation grew after a few weeks, when I discovered that I could miss class, copy the power point slides from the girl who sat next to me, and still pass the tests with A's. However, the class was usually entertaining enough that I would attend anyway.
At the end of the semester, Dr. Stewart had the students pair into groups of two, and each group would make a posterboard displaying their topics. The groups then presented these posterboards to 2/3s of the class, and the presenters would tell Dr. Stewart and the other students which of their key points should become test questions. As a result, there were three different versions of the final, depending on which presentations each presenter saw. This made for an easy final, although some of the questions were sort of silly. As an example, many students felt that statistical data were good for test questions, although I really do not see how these obscure facts really benefit the student's learning.
Overall, Dr. Stewart is a good guy. I agree with some of the other comments that perhaps he would have made a good highschool professor. The class was really easy, although it was fun, and definitely a nice change of pace from the average college course.

By far the easiest and most effective biology professor in the department. Take him for every bio class you need. Probs of Environment is the easiest bio gen. ed. to take and this is the easiest prof to take it with. If you can't get him, wait it out until you can. Trust me, it is so worth it.

Dr. Stewart is the most atypically energetic, effective, and likeable prof at ship. Parasitology wasn't too easy, but Dr. Stewart keeps it interesting and exciting. Study and you'll do well.

No book for the class, just a packet of manuals and a flower book. Good fieldtrip to Wallops. He knows a lot, but sometimes I thought that he would make a better high school professor rather than college. Nice guy though, and easy class. Tests are harder than some people in here wrote.

Dr. Stewart it awesome, and I totally loved his class. I took him last semester and still find myself going to see him when I need something or just to talk. He is a great guy and is always willing to help his students and his classes are awesome. I had his class in the morning and #1 I'm not a morning person and #2 I've always done poorly in science, but his class has been my absolute favorite so far here at Ship. His lessons are interesting, he seems to really care about his students' opinions, and is always open for class discussion. In fact some of the time we'd get so into a conversation we'd get off track. He wants all of his students to get A's in his class and is willing to help you get there. His tests aren't easy but they're not hard either. His lectures are all off of a power point and he gives you exactly what you need to know. There are quizzes throughout the semester but he tells you when they are and exactly what to study. Also you do three 1 page research excursions on a topic of your choice which really helps to boost your grade. If you have the chance to take him, or simply need an extra Category C class, take him, it'll be the best decision you'll ever make. I'm even thinking of minoring in Environmental Science, just so that I can take him again, that's how interested he got me in the subject matter.

Dr. Stewert is a great teacher. He always tells you exactly whats going to be on the quizes and tests. On about half of the quizes he gives he just gives free points to hard questions. Real easy class. He even lets you use your notes on all quizes!!!

Dr. Stewart is a nice guy. He makes class fun by cracking jokes and by comparing himself to large animals. His quizzes are open notes and his tests are not bad if you glance over the chapter and notes.

All around nice guy, who only cares about his students and wants them to succeed in everything that they do! Loves nothing else, except his family, but teaching! Enjoys to have lab outside for zoology and loves going down to Wallops Island as a weekend field trip. Take Stewart for any class that he teaches. He has a very effective teaching style and alot of pazazz! He allows cheat cards on his test too! He also teaches parasitology and problems of the environment. Look for him!

I hate science classes, but this one isn't all that bad. He is very easy to talk to and is always around. He reviews before exams and goes over most of the stuff. Has you do online quizzes which you can use the book for. You do have to do a group project, which was the worst part of the course so far. The exams are a combination of M/C, T/F, matching and short answer. They are not very hard if you take good notes and pay attention in class. If you have to take a science class, this is the one to take.

I absolutly love Dr. Stewart, I am horrible at and hate any type of science course, but I didnt mind having to get up and go to his class. This is his first semester here and he is one of the best prof's I've had yet here at Ship. He is so nice, and funny and really cares about his students and is always there if you need any help with anything. His problems of the environment course is very easy! If you get the chance to take him for any course, def do it!!!!!
