Dr. Baynum is one of the kindest, friendliest, and most intelligent woman I have ever met in my life. She is willing to do whatever she can to help you learn! She always has your best interest at heart and may be a little crazy at times, but she is a fantastic professor.

Dr. Baynum is seriously the most amazing teacher I've encountered. She's very passionate about what she does, and always has a lot of great stories to tell about her experiences. I learned so much in that class, and not just from books, but from listening to her experiences, and by having the hands on experiences that she offers the class. This class was by far my favorite class in my entire college experience, and I recommend everyone who reads this to take her, you won't be disappointed!

She was truly great. She expects you to be responsible for a LOT of your learning which took some getting used to when every other class has been lecture on what you've read then reading. Her stories are great... a little unorganized but thats life as a teacher. (sorry for saying that dr. baynum) You will love her, I never heard a complaint from any of my classmates. She is always there for you and you will want to keep her in your life forever!!!

Her stories are hilarious, and they really do help with the subject at hand. What do you remember? The facts out of a textbook or the real life examples she provides? Tests are great because you help make them..she doesn't believe you should be tested on information that you haven't studied or learned. I learned a lot in her class--do the work and you will get an A. Don't skip this class though!

What to say...I have had Dr. Baynum and I have read all the comments on this board. To some degree I believe that they are all true, she is disorganized, she does expect a great deal from her students, and yes, sometimes she can be pushy with her beliefs and views, but she is a magnificent person. Dr. Baynum has a deep pasion for young children, for teaching, and for preparing us to be teachers. She does not sugar-coat teaching, she tells story after story of the negative aspects of working with children, but this is not because she wants to prove that she has suffered so much, like I read in someones comment, but it is to open college student's eyes to facts. She tries very hard to be fair to her college students, unfortunatly this does allow for students who don't do work to sometimes get an unearned grade. She overwhelms you with projects and assignments at the beginning of the semester, but don't let intimidate you, most of them are very reasonable and she gives plenty of notice. Though Dr. Baynum has her flaws like all of us, she is a wonderful professor who truly tries her best, so if that isn't enough for some of you then maybe you should take another professor.

Dr Baynum is an amazing prof! She has a wealth of knowledge and she is always available to you. Everyday she demonstrates, by doing, the proper way to teach a class. I only wish she was still a teacher somewhere so I could observer her. I disagree with those who say that she is unorganized, she tells you from the beginning that all of the assignments are going to be due at the end, because you have to take the class before you can do them. Her class teaches you what it will be like in an elementary school, you have to be flexible and you have to go with the flow or you will never make it. Even after I took her class, she helped me find a new placement for student teaching. There arent many teachers in the school that would do the same! If you are lucky enough to have Dr Baynum, know you are going to be a better teacher for it!

Ok, so yeah everyone hears all kinds of things about this woman. Well I had her and i loved her and the class!!!! She is hysterical and def. keeps you laughing. She is always giving us hilarious stories about her and her kids and it keeps you interested and does interesting things with the students to keep them interested. I must say, when she gives assignments and projects, her directions arent very clear. I was always confused and it always took me a couple days before i actually knew what to do. Other than that she is great and you will always get an A as long as you are there and give her something. I would take her again for any ed. class.

This class wasn't bad at all. Its not hard and is somewhat interesting. However, the end of the semester work load is more than you can ever imagine. It is unbelievable that a teacher would put so much on you at the end of the semester

If you want an awesome proff who you can learn a lot from, take her! Through her stories and experiences in the classroom you learn so much more than you would from someone who lectures from the book. You do have to study for the tests although they are multiple choice they're a little tricky but with all the other projects you do it doesnt make or break your grade. She has taught me so many things I can use in my own classroom. Must take her when possible!

Professor Baynum is by far the coolest professor I have had so far in my college career. The thing that makes her different is her absolute love for her job. She is always smiling!!! Her stories are fun too. Every opportunity I have to take her I will. She should be in the teachers Hall of Fame!

Prof. Baynum is extremely passionate about teaching elementary reading and wants her students to be as well. Her class consists of one midterm (which she discards any questions that over 15 people missed), one final (you do with a group and it's about what we learned throughout the semester-it was so easy we didn't even know it was the final), a Guided reading lesson, a read aloud, 8 observ. hours, and few other little projects. The syllabus looks a little overwhelming at first but it's all very easy! Be prepared to do most of the projects at the end of the semester. Don't be surprized if she asks you to stand on your desks or sing a song. :) She has some cool things that kids love to do which she shows you in class. Awesome prof.

Professor Baynum is truly awesome! She makes class interesting and you actually learn a lot. She always has great stories to tell and she brings in her own children! She doesn't just tell you the information, she shows you. We had a midterm which was multiple choice. We also were assigned a class at Luhrs, and we did observations in the classroom. We had a couple of short assignments to do, but they weren't bad. TAKE HER WHENEVER YOU CAN!!!

Dr. Baynum is an amazing teacher. She helps you understand the material so clearly and in a fun way. She tells fun stories to help you understand the concepts that she is teaching. She also teaches in a way that is understandable. She doesn't teach to the book. So easy to get along with. If you do the work and come to class it is an easy A and if something comes up she is super understanding. If you have the chance to take her DO IT, you will not regret it.

Professor Baynum is by far my favorite professor I have ever had at Ship. She doesn't just tell you how to teach, she models everything she feels as though we should be doing. You actually learn more from her behavior than from the book or notes. Her final was insanely easy... we worked in pairs! She is a wealth of information and ideas. Take her if you can!!! (you won't regret it)

Dr. B is a great prof. she tells so many stories about her experiences with children and she has 3 of her own. she brings in her kids sometimes, brings in babies to play with, and takes you to play with 5-6 yr olds! now tell me what is not to like about that? on top of that, shes very nice and funny, the midterm and final were multiple choice, t/f, and matching. she gives you a review sheet w/ the topics and pg #s so u can review them on your own. YOU MUST TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!

I like this lady, but she is soooo unorganized and makes the assignments even harder than they should be. I have a family member who is an adminis. and when I told them about the assignments, they thought she was very unclear too, and they actually helped me with the assignment in the first place. Dr. Baynum needs meds to focus!

Don't get me wrong, Dr. Baynum is a nice lady and I'm sure means well, BUT she WILL drive you NUTS in her Reading in the Elementary School Class. I am an extremely hard-working person, and did well in this class, so I'm not just saying all of this because I got a bad grade. I am just warning you! This class has made me want to switch my major, but since my dream is to be a teacher, I am not letting one teacher affect that. But anyway, Dr. Baynum is VERY disorganized, extremely strict and needs a new style in teaching her class! It is either her way, or the high way. No compromises with Baynum whatsoever! She is too busy with her own personal life, that she has NO time to help her students. She expects "you" to know how to do eveything, and if you don't she'll tell you that you will not be a good teacher. Trust me. It's from personal experiance. Overall, if you dont want to have a HORRIBLE semester, and feel so stressed that you will want to switch majors, AVOID taking Baynum! She seems to think that Reading is your "only" class in the entire world and that you have all the time in the world for just her class. Her expectations of her students are just not reasonable. She expects you to know EVERYTHING about reading and if you don't she will FLIP on you!

Dr. Baynum is a very nice lady, however I think we had a personality conflict. I found her to be very unorganized and scatter-brained. Instead of teaching students the basics of reading, she took somethings simple n blew it into this huge complex ordeal. Her reasoning behind it was that she was going to make us the best at teaching reading and raising the bar. This is encouraging and all but I had 5 other classes so it's a bit unfair of her to treat us like this was our only class. Personally I don't want to teach primary grades so her class was in a way a waste of time. She mostly focuses on K-3 so if u want to teach 4-6 I suggest taking a different prof. A nice lady and very excited about education, just a bit overwhelming though.

Baynum is a nice person, but her class is very overwhelming. She insisted we read the book, but she never taught from it. She is beyond unorganized, which makes the class even more hectic than it needs to be. I felt a little lost in her class all the time, because she made things harder than they really were. She is passionate and is a great story teller. I'm not sure I'd take her again if given the opportunity. I would try to get Dr. Slatterly if I were to take this course again.

Don't get me wrong Baynum is a nice lady but she'll drive you NUTS!!!! As everyone always says she is crazy... she talks about everything and anything; however, she is very unorganized and when students are stressing to finish 1 of her million projects she assigns she goes on to tell a story about how much worse she had it n so on. UGH! Honestly all I learned from her class is that no matter how much time or effort you put into something she will give a person who did jack squat the same grade as you b/c they kiss her ...

She is a nice person and has alot of info to offer and class goes fast. However, she acts like the only class you are taking is hers. She piles so much work at the end of the semester your head will spin. If you take her get ready to kill yourself at thge end of the semester.
