Renault is a great teacher. He is funny, and nice too. He is a math teacher, so his class was kind of difficult but not too bad. He checks his email even over breaks so that's a plus sometimes. Overall, I think he is a great choice. Don't get any books for his Calc I class.. not even the binder versions. When I tried to refer to it twice for homework, it did not help AT ALL. It's only worth getting the mymathlab online thing and using google for help. Definitely pick Dr. Renault if you can.

Subject: If you aren't very good in math, take his class  (Mar 24 2010, 09:16AM)

I had Renault for Calc 3 and he did a great job teaching. He gave plenty of examples, assigned a bunch of optional homework problems that were useful for the tests, and was always willing to go over problems that you didn't understand. If you're starting out with an iffy ability to do math, take one of his classes. He takes the time to help you out and the only way you'll fail is if you don't do the work, don't pay attention, and don't ask for help when you need it. Show up, pay attention, and do the homework and you'll do fine.

Dr. Renault is an easy professor! His tests are all multiple choice which makes it easy to find the answer. His homework is online and you can work until you get the problems right. So that is a great grade booster!! I would suggest taking him!

I like Dr. Renault. You know he's really smart, yet he's still really down to earth, which is really nice for a gen ed. that you don't want to take in the first place. And if you take notes and listen in class you can probably get away without studying until the final.

His homework is online so that you can work until your answers are correct. his class can get a little boring, but he is a really nice guy and will help you if you need it. His tests are not nearly as hard as his examples and he gives out a review sheet almost identical to the test.

Ok I am horrible at math but still ended up with the only math A I have ever had. Its not because his tests are easy, but because he will take as long as he has to in order for everyone to understand. His tests are not hard but not simple either. They are based on the homework, and he never threw in a question about something we should not have been able to do. This man loves his job, and you will love his class.

Take Renault for Liberal Studies! We had 5-6 quizzes (based on hw and notes in class), 3 research excursions (i.e. 1 page summaries on a math topic of your choice), a poster/paper project (that you complete with a partner) and a final. But come on...how many math classes do you get to bring a page of notes to for quizzes and the final? My guess is not very many. The class itself covers the more interesting aspects of math: sequences, infinity, codes, voting theory. (There's something I'm leaving out but I can't recall.) If you are struggling in the class...visit him in office hours, he's pretty much always there. Let's see...there are a couple EC opportunities...but not many. Oh and attendance does help towards your final grade. Anyway, good luck with your semester!

If you have trouble with math, this is the prof and class you need to take. Dr. Renault was so nice! A note sheet was allowed to be used on the six quizzes and the final. There are three 1 page papers you have to write, which are extremely easy! If you attend class, take notes, and look over the homework, you'll do fine in this class.

I always had a hard time with math. To be quite honest, a math phobia... He structured this particular class for students that are not math oriented. It was very effective. He was ALWAYS there to help if I had questions. And might I add he was very patient considering it took me forever to comprehend some of that crazy math sh@t. Good teacher.

I am not a math person. This class was so easy. There are 5-6 quizzes, every other week, 3 research excursions, and a poster/paper group project and the final. You can bring in a page of notes for every test. Notes and hw assignments are online that you can get if you miss class...most people took advantage of this.

I really liked this class, as much as anyone can like Calculus 3 anyway. Dr. Renault is very enthusiastic about math and you can tell he really likes it. He has tons of corny little jokes that you find yourself laughing at. He's a good prof and takes the time to really try to help you understand.

Don't let the C fool you, i'm very bad at taking tests. He gives three tests, exam, and the homework-get this-is done ONLINE! its so much easier than on paper, you'll know if you got the correct answer right away. Renault can make the class a lot easier than it seems. he goes through each section effectively, answers questions as soon as they come, and is always willing during office hours. This was my first math class, and i'm taking him again next semester. you definately won't be disappointed with him!

He's funny, his class is easy, and he's a good teacher. You can use your notes on all the quizzes, there are no tests and you have to do some lame projects, but they are easy. If you don't like math, take him. He's great, I hope they pay him well.

i am not a huge fan of math, but really, if you are just looking for a math class to fill your gen eds, take renault. he gives you open notes quizzes and drops your lowest score, he has research excursions that he grades really easily, and his final is a piece of cake. only a fool would pass him up.

Interesting teacher who is very enthusiastic about Math. For those of you who aren't especially mathematically inclined this class will provide plenty of oportunity to use your writing skills as well as gain confidence in your math ability. You will have to THINK critically. Attendence is very important as all the quizes were based on homework assignments and mainly were open notebook/homework. The class addresses INFINITY but you won't find yourself thinking that the semester feels the same way, endless that is! Good class and the ONLY math class I ever got an A!!!! Recommend Highly!

Prof. Renault is an awesome prof. His classes were a lot of fun, he likes to joke around sometimes. He's quick to respond to emails if you have problems with the homework or anything. Just turn in the homework and study for tests and you will do fine.

When you ask him a question about the homework or a problem on the board he starts to do it and goes off onto another type of problem without finishing the first one. He never explains stuff right so you can not understand what he wants you to do. If you don't do the problem as if you were him then he takes points off for everything. Ya his tests are all multiple choice but if you don't show the work and do it as he would then he takes points off. I was a good math student when I came into the class and I thought I got dumber from this class and actually forgot how to do things. If you have the chance to not take him then don't take him.

Dr. Renault is a nice guy don't get me wrong but he rushes through material and doesn't do a very good job at explaining things. He just keeps moving on. He hardly gives you any time for quizzes... usually 7 minutes. When it comes to tests half the stuff that is on them we haven't went over. I studied extremely hard and attended a lot of the si sessions and I am still stuck with a D!! So don't make the same mistake I did... if you're not the greatest at math take a diff professor.

This guy is so full of himself, on the quizzes you have to do everything exactly right to get full credit for the answer. He thinks he knows it all. But the funny thing is,is that I took this class based on all of the good reports on this site. However from what I am telling you he doesn't deserve them. I e-mailed him about a question that I had once and it took him forever to get back to me...Is this the professor u want? If so good luck.....

Dr. Renault is a very nice man don't get me wrong, however if you have never had calculus before he moves way too fast. He writes definitions and proofs on the board and then moves on...no explanation or example(with numbers in it) to help you. He does reviews before every test but the material he stresses throughout the classes and during the review is barely on the test. There are 3 tests a final and homework like every day, Online. Half the time the internet is messed up and you can't do your homework, which is a huge pain! He is always willing to help you during office hours but then the stuff you think you should concentrate on isn't on the test, so its not worth it. I would not advise taking him, especially if you've never had calc before!

I really like Dr Renault, I think he is a really effective teacher. He has homework assignments online you have a couple of nights to do. He answers specific homework questions in class. He writes down everything you need to know for his tests with a review the class before. He only has three tests, held on the last day of every month, and the final. There is no group work, unless you count the review games where you go up to the board by yourself. He really tries to get to know at least a little about every one of his students and tries really hard to make the material easier. I really enjoyed his class and his method of teaching.

Dr. Renault is great guy and a great professor. He explains things very well and his class is exactly how a 100 level class should be. However if you take him you will have to get used to rolling your eyes and laughing to yourself. Dr. Renault's jokes are so pathetic you almost feel bad for him. Math is his life and it is sad, you can see him sitting in an apartment with chalk boards surrounding him and he's scribbling proofs and theorems down on them. Take him if you want an easy class and if you want some entertainment early in the morning.
