I cannot believe how many negative comments this lady has! I thought her class was great! She is one of my favorite teachers. She grades really easy and never kept us in class the whole time. She says what she needs to say and lets us go. I would def take dr. bishop again and I would recommend her to anyone

At first I was a little intimidated by dr. bishop but once I got into the swing of things and figured out her teaching styles I loved the class. She is a great prof and actually knows what she is talking about. She is very smart and gets to the point. We only have two speeches and a project. It was a great class and she never actually kept us there the entire time. Usually she would say what she needed to and let us go! I would def. recommend taking her.

This class was not hard at all. Everything is straight forward and Bishop is an easy grader. The only thing I didn't like was that the exams covered a lot of chapters and it was too much info to remember.

Look! I got a C in her class and I am still in love with her. She is one of the most down to earth profs Ship has, she is like a mother. She has a really good sense of humor as well. She really wants all of her students to learn and she is not about to let people slack off. If you go to class and listen to her and follow directions you will do just fine.

Dr. Bishop is one of the best professors in the Speech Dept. if not the best. She is not all about giving you an easy ride through her courses, she actually wants you to learn something. I think she is SO fair, and she rewards people for following the guidelines and succeeding in the projects and papers. I had a couple guys in my class that NEVER came, didn't understand how to write the papers, and didn't seem to give a sh*t about anything. I agree that these guys deserve bad grades. She expects her students to show up, pay attention, read, and follow instructions. She tells the class right off the bat that they are there to interpret, analyze, and apply and that is exactly what she expects of her students. She is all about thinking outside the box, and as college students we should be able to do that. If you want an easy ride with an easy professor, don't take her. If you want to learn something that is applicable to life, she is the woman to take, definitely.

OK...first...whatever you have heard about her, disregard it. She is NOT a hard grader, as long you do what she asks for you will be fine. She does give a lot of work, but this is college isn't it? Her attendance policy is dumb, but it isn't unbearable. She has trouble explainging assignments thoroughly, but just keep reasking her and you will find out what she wants. SHE IS NOT HARD AT ALL. She is actually kind of funny and really does want you to learn.

I took Rherotical critizism her first semseter there when she didnt have a clue how to teach it but we got through it and now its my favorite part of the of the discipline. I also had Interviewing and Trainning with her. She might treat you like her own grandchild but I had no problems getting A's in her classes.

Dr. Bishop tries to intimidate you in the first couple classes but she is a really nice lady. Her tests are fifty multiple choice questions and you can usually figure out. She is kinda rough in grading her speeches but if you smile during your speech she like that. i would take her again.

Bishop was quite simply put a _______. You know what kind of person I'm talking about. The class is horrible, I am almost offended that we have to take it. I don't even know what we're supposed to be learning in that class. It's a mixture of reading peoples minds and conforming to society. The only thing that makes it worth going to is watching Rogue (if you ever see her you'll see) rant about how shes been divorced longer than most of us have been alive. It's pathetic but thats why she does what she does.

This woman is NUTS! She turned this Gen. Ed. into the class from hell. She made it a lot harder then it needed to be. She was very perticular when it came to speeches. You needed to iron your clothes before each speech or she took points off. She gives you about a week to get all your information together, write you paper, prepare you speech along with visuals for each presentation. Her tests always had errors on them, however, she stresses that she is NEVER wrong so you will never get credit for a mistake that she makes. For example, she had about 120 students in her BOC classes and out 120 only 15 students did the correct format for a paper, however that was not her fault. This woman is evil.

No offense to all you people who left positive comments but I took a class with her and she was just a total bitch. Talk about giving low scores on speeches. Yup, that would be this professor. Everyone in the class seemed to like my speeches that I gave but she obviously didnt with the grades I got in return. My biggest problem with her was when I went to her office to ask for help she was tooo lazy to even bother helping me that she just practically kicked me out of her office to go beg someone else for help. I think when I made an effort to go to her office that she should have at least made an effort in return to help me out. What a waste of time that was! Whatever, at least I passed the class with a C and dont have to take her ever ever again!

Dr. Bishop's tests were based solely on the information in the book and not at all on her lectures, which were more like complaints. She was incredibly boring and criticismal. She also gives very little help or direction for those preparing a speech, and she claims to care more about the presentation style than the content, however, most points taken off are always from the outline.

Dr.Bishop is a horrible teacher. She is one of the most pretentious people I have ever encountered. Her tests are easy, and she grades speech very leniently, however this doesn’t make up for her strict attendance policy, or how boring she is to listen to. I would only recommend her if you want to listen to how much smarter she is than you for an entire semester.

Oh my Gosh were do I begin. Ok well first this is the hardest class that I have taken. Other students were saying how easy their BOC class was, while this was my worst class. Her tests are really hard even though they are m/c. Everyone in the class did bad. But don't think that it will make her curve the grade or go over the test, cause it won't. As far as speeches go they have to be perfect for a C, do extra work for a B and who gets an A? There is reading from the book and a lot of extra work for speeches and mini projects. For my one speech I spent over 10 hours doing research for it. If you have to take her you might as well roll over and die now!!! []

First off if you want confusing then you can take this professor and you will be happy you did. Although her tests are very simple everything else you have to do for her will have you up all night wondering why the hell I thought I should pick this teacher in the first place. If you have any questions she will not give you a straight answer. The one time I e-mailed her she didn't even have the courtesy to e-mail me back. When I asked her about it she said that she felt like there was more that I wasn't asking so she didn't want to reply. Truth of the matter is I feel Mrs. Bishop would be a better politican than a teacher. She doesn't know how to teach at all. She repeats everything straight out of the book and doesn't help to make sense of it at all. Then, there is her grading system in which my fellow classmates and I all agreed that she takes the speeches home and throws them off the top of her steps and which ever step it lands on is the grade that paper deserves. Next, there is an assignment about half-way into the course in which she pries very deeply into your personal life. One of the questions was make a diagram of everyone in your family and number them in importance to you and then justify why you gave each member that number. Personally, I don't think she needs to know any of the information she asks for. Therefore, if you take this professor then you are completly daft because you will learn nothing and hate the class.

This woman is seriously about certifiably insane! The post calling her a demonic B*tch is quite the accurate description! I hand it to her, her tests are fairly easy, consisting of only MC and T/F. When it comes to anything else, she expects beyond perfect to even obtain a "B," not to mention she tends to take off points for things you didn't do that she never even told you to. And don't do a speech involving drugs as your topic, or she will go off the wall complaining about how stupid people are, and she doesnt understand why you would want to kill yourself slowly and painfully when instead you should buy a 45, stick it in your mouth, and pull the trigger to get it over with quickly. yes, that's right, she practically promotes suicide, even naming the appropriate weapon. About the only tolerable part of the class is making fun of her crazy ways, and also making smart ass comments. Stay away from this woman at all costs!!!

The tests are easy 50 mulitple choice.... Pay attention in class.. The speaches sound like they are going to be harshly graded then she doesnt so you do alot of hard work for nothing because poeple that prepared 10 min before class get the same grade as you.

As far as teaching the material, she did everything right out of the book. So that wasn't too bad, but as a person, she was horrible. For a communications teacher, you'd think she would pride herself on being open to her students, willing to help, and generally able to communicate well with them. She announced basically on the first day that she was far above everyone, and she always referred back to a bad experience she had with a student that has made her dislike all students. Her grading wasn't too harsh, but it took a lot of work to get a good grade. She isn't at all understanding if you're sick, or even if there's a death in the family, or anything really. There are better Intro to Comm. teachers out there, so I advise not taking her. I'm an excellent student and she made my first semester horrible.

Requirements of this class: Attendance and logic. Attendance is pretty much mandatory...Her tests are all multiple choice, for the most part you can guess and pass...Her enthusiasm is the worst part about this class. She thinks everything speech/communication/oral skills are the end-all, be-all of life. She's nit-picky, meticulous, and borderline anal retentive. However, if you can endure these qualities, take directions, and half pay attention in class - you'll be guaranteed a satisfactory grade.

Dr. Bishop is a weird person. She has very strong beliefs and if you mention alcohol or drugs in class, she goes off ranting about how it's more logical to stick a gun in your mouth and pull the trigger... In the beginning of the semester, it's all reading and easy multiple choice tests. At the end, you give 2 speeches (one informative, one persuasive). Then you take the final, which is like another test. Very easy... However, she is very anal and doesn't explain what will get you an A. She tells you what to do to get a C and it's your job to figure out how to do more if you want the A. She has her rediculous moments, but her easy tests almost made it worth it... almost.

Dr. Bishop's tests are incredibly easy (multiple choice and true/false only), but you need to make up for that in the rest of your work. There are only two speeches, but you need to go the extra mile. There are some homework assignments that will take a considerable amount of time to complete. She seems to be getting a lot of slack on her grading methods, but it's generally due to misinterpretation of the directions she gave them. Personally, I never had a qualm with the grades of my assignments and I didn't need to ask for clarification, nor did I do anything more than she listed in her assignments. So if you follow directions well, you should be okay. Other comments mention her talk of drug-users, and how they should stick a gun in their mouth and end it. I have never touched an illegal drug, but I found these comments incredibly offensive. [] She's a good professor; she's just incredibly opinionated.
