Math is not my strongest subject...but Choi made it a lot easier. One plus you don't need to buy a book. All lectures are done on worksheets. Quizzes are given often to make sure you understand the material being covered in class. Sometimes they are group quizzes! A study guide is given before each exam, STUDY IT AND KNOW ALL THE QUESTIONS! The exam is laid out the same way as the study guide, just different numbers!!!! As for homework DO IT ALL!! The homework is done on myitlab and is due on a given day. It is a easy way to boost your grade when completing all problems(you get as many chances as you want on each problem) This is a class you have to work at if its not your strongest subject! Going to math department tutor helped me pass this class. Choi is a very nice lady despite her English!! If you care enough and go to her office hours, you will pass :)

Professor Choi's class was easy for me. She had 3 tests multiple quizzes. There was also homework that is completed on the computer. She was very amusing to me because she would say "perpendicular" and "parallel" in a really funny way. Anyways, she didn't speak English that well. I don't advise anyone to take her if they are not very good at math.

Dr. Choi is brilliant, but tends to make many mistakes because she doesn't copy work from a paper, she will do the work from scratch which humanely brings mistakes. She is always offering help to students, and she was never frustrated with us. She revises her classes based on the evaluations from the past year which shows how much she is willing to be helpful tot he students. Her test questions are very similar to the ones done for homework and she gives a lot of opportunity for extra credit

Dr. Choi is a very nice lady. Shes just so cute! However, she teaches very quickly, but will answer any of your questions. There is a quiz every friday, and they are partner or group quizzes, so it is not hard to get 10/10 on them. Her tests are pretty hard, especially if you dont study! Overall, I really liked Dr. Choi and thought it was hilarious that after every lab class she would say "thank you for coming."

"How do you fit elephant in fridge and take out and put together? First you take derivative of elephant then put it in fridge. Now take integral of elephant..." That was her joke. Her class is hard to follow... we had homework exactly three times so you have to do independent work to keep up... group or partner quizes every friday... she does many problems for you on tests and quizs... four tests... not all that hard as she will help the class through them... whenever she says she wants to give homework, just tell her no.

Dr. Choi is a very effective professor. If you are not able to keep up in her class, then good luck persuing the math department at Ship. She does plenty of examples and goes over the homework, which is very vital when it comes to teaching math. She even provides you with a little history of Mathematics, which proves that Dr. Choi knows her field and teaches it in an understandable way regardless of the fact that English may not be her native language, which people sadly tend to dwell on.

I enjoyed Dr.Choi's class. ELA in general is not a difficult subject so I cannot truly judge on her ability to teach diffcult material. She taught the material fairly well and is always willing to help. She gave us quizzes every friday, a few homework assignments, three midterms, and a cumulative final. She gives out extra credit too. Some people say that she is hard to understand. I sat in the front and was ability to hear her fine. If you put in the time, you shall receive the grade you desire. She wasn't that bad i don't think. She probably goes a little too fast sometimes but i didn't have a problem because i had calc in HS. She is very willing to help out and make sure you understand it. We had quizes and she would sometimes go around and help you do the problems on them. The one thing that pissed me off about the class was that i bought the calc book for a hundred some dollars and never once touched the damn thing. She probably referenced it twice the whole semester and all our HW was online. So other than the wasted money it was fine.

Ok your an idiot if you can t keep up w/ her teaching and the material...maybe you should reconsider why youre even in a math class....The tests are material you covered in class and most of the time she would give you a pretest the class period before the exam...she used the internet for homework which was a plus...if you didnt understand the problems she would go over them in class...Yeah she might speak a little different but people come on []...of course shes not going to have the Shippensburg dialect that everone is used to...Overall I think she is a great prof and would recommend her to everyone...She can seriously make calculus an interesting subject..a task that isnt easy by any means.

Her tests aren't the hardest in the world but you still have to know what's going on to get a decent grade. If you need help just ask because she is more than willing to help everyone understand. Overall, she's a pretty decent prof.

Let's see... Once you get past Ji Young's little idiosyncrasies (which are actually kind of cute), she is really a good professor. The fact that she cannot add, subtract, multiply, or divide does not take anything away from the quality of her class. In fact, it adds some comic relief to what would otherwise be an extremely BORING class. It is very funny when she makes frequent, and obvious, mistakes! If you are willing to pay attention and work at it, you can do very well in this class, and maybe even learn a little calculus. There is also plenty of opportunity for extra credit if your test scores aren't up to snuff. Anyway, overall a pleasant experience.

If you are an intelligent individual you will excel in her class. She explains the material thoroughly and gives numerous examples which can be applied to the homework and exams. If you pay attention during class and attempt to understand the material as things progress, you will succeed. She is also available if any questions arise and is easy to understand and get along with.
She's a great professor. :)

Prof Choi is a decent professor, she really tries to get the material through to her students, even thought she speaks really bad english and its hard to answer our questions. Her tests are reasonable, nothing from left field. You study maybe an hour for each of her exams and you have a B+/A. Her teaching ability still needs to be honed because she teaches material like we already know it. I would take her again if I had the chance though.

I'd like to think that math is my strongest subject in school, but choi definitely made me rethink that at first, until I realized she was just a horrible teacher. She's a GENIUS but she thinks that it should come just as easy to you as it comes to her. Ask her to dumb down something and she just doesn't get how you don't understand. She rarely ever explains where she gets the answers she does and it doesn't help that you can't understand her. Choi is a very nice lady but SUCKS at teaching! Pretty much, bottom line, do not take her unless you want to retake the course!

I am shocked by some of the positive reviews...yeah she is kinda funny sometimes I suppose, but whoever said that she stops if people don't understand the material lied. At least 1/3 of my class would complain about not knowing what is going on, and she would just move on to the next chapter. She gives very little partial credit on exams which makes it a lot harder, and is just terrible at teaching the material in a way to understand. If you are one of the genius's that can teach yourself, than all the power to you. If you are an average person that needs someone to..gasp..teach..then please look elsewhere.

While Choi tries her hardest her speech is pretty bad. She had to stop several times during her lecture to ask if a word was actually a word. She is also horrible with her times. She showed up to class 5 to 10 minutes late several times. She was also late to office hours. I took her because my sister had a positive experience with her but she has changed a lot in the past 3 or so years. I got a 13% on her first exam, I was so confused by this because I was doing well in her class and I understood most of the material. I ended up dropping the class because there was no coming back from that. As far as her lectures, she generally gives out a page with a few notes and a lot of examples, and then she just does the problems on the board, it was not very effective. Anyway I would not recommend her especially if you are not good at math.

Dr. Choi is a nice lady (if you are not having problems in her class)and seems to really know what she is talking about. However, the Korean accent and her inability to express herself in more than one way about a topic in English do make it hard for her to successfully teach. What I learned in that class, I learned from the book. She gave homework but never went over it. She didn't collect it until the test, and even then did not check it for content. When I asked her a question, she said that I should have done my homework (I had), I should have paid attention better in class (I sit in the front row and never missed a class), and I should study more. The final exam was filled with questions so difficult and unrelated to anything that we were supposed to have learned that one girl had a panic attack and had to leave the room. It's a miracle any of us passed.

Do not take Choi. She is the worst professor I have ever had at my time in Ship. She could care less about you, and as long as she shows up and "teaches", she thinks that is enough. She was a nice professor, but at times I couldn't understand a word she was saying. I'm planning on majoring in Business and for me Math is an easy and wonderful subject, and I've never done bad in any math class except this one. Before going into this math class, I took a math class during the summer at the community college I was attending, and some of the stuff I had already learned; but the way she was teaching it made me completely lost. The beginning of the class (with the homework & quizzes online) I had an A, but after the first exam it brought my grade all the way down to an F, which was hard to bring up. She also always assumed that you knew what she was talking about, and I know most of the students probably didn't. Her class also felt like it went fast, I attended a class that was an hour & 15 minutes and we would always be done pretty early. She's a nice, sweet professor, but doesn't teach as well as I hoped for a math teacher that is.

The Bad:
Avoid at all costs. Ok so she DOES have a pretty strong Chinese accent but I can understand her just fine. What I can't understand is the math she is trying to teach. One day it took her literally 20 minutes to figure out the 'median' and came to the wrong conclusion. She had to clarify next class. I basically go to my room to teach myself. She is kind of forgetful and looks like she's talking herself through the problems instead of teaching to a class.
The good:
All homework and quizzes are online and you do them at home. The homework has buttons for examples and even step by step walkthroughs of the actual problem. The homework and quizzes are really helping my grade because I didn't do so well on the first exam.

Dr. Choi is a very nice professor. Sure her accent is difficult to get past, but you shouldn't hold that against her. She is not a very good professor, I really believe that she knows what she is talking about and is a very, very intelligent person, but she's just not good at conveying the message to us. She's a very easy prof, I haven't learned a single thing in her class and I'm easily passing the class, but being a math major I really would like to learn what I'm studying rather than just passing it. If you're taking her for a gen ed requirement and don't want anything to do with math then take her, its at least an easy B. But if you're a math major/minor do not take her because you will not learn anything. But don't get me wrong she's a very nice and very intelligent person but not a good teacher.

She often makes mistakes which confuses everyone more, and moves onto new subjects when most don't understand the current one. Her homework is horrible, you have to answer questions certain ways when she never even taught you how to do it that way. Overall, stay away, she just confuses the hell out of her students.

This woman is extremely difficult to understand. She expects everyone to just pick up and catch on to everything at a high pace by themselves. You either get the concept or you don't. There's really no teaching involved. Sure she tries to teach you, but it's really not at all effective. I had calculus (& received an A) in high school, so I figured this class would be a breeze. WELL I guess you should never assume anything, because her grading methods were ridiculous on tests (in which I failed all of them). Luckily she took away two of our lowest quiz scores, which enabled me to do OK in her class and not fail. ALSO at first she made attendance and homework seem important, but really they count for not much of anything in her grading system, so don't be fooled....I hate this lady...oh and she needs to learn some standard English, we're not all korean

I have always gotten really good grades; and I'm usually really good in Math however I never took precalc. She is hard to understand. Super smart but she cant teach... I went to her office a few times for help and it was so frustrating because she would say one thing and I would do that but it would be wrong. She thinks that everything is so simple when its not. The class failed a lot of stuff and she wouldn't curve. Some of the quizzes were cake, others were really hard. The final in her class sucked. I studied a lot for the final and it didnt help much at all. She was always available for me outside of class when I went to her office for office hours but she was bad about emails. I hated this class partly because of her and partly because it was my last class of the day. If you didnt take pre calc I wouldnt recommend her. If it drives you crazy that she wears the same clothes every freaking class dont take her... So many things she did drove me nuts I just plain hated her class!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want to actually learn calculus go somewhere else, she'll basically tell you what to do. When you leave this class you will be lucky to know how to use a derivative. Actually she limits the applications she teaches significantly. She should be teaching marginal costs, profits and that kind of stuff also. Who knows what will be going on in integrals. I don't think we'll actually be doing integration by parts in Calc II

I highly recommend not taking Dr. Choi for calc 1 she an absolutely horrible teacher who has no clue how to teach. Basically she gets herself confused when shes writing on the blackboard and makes up stupid examples that really have nothing to do with the problem we're doing! This is my second time taking it and I thought it was going to be alot easier but I WAS WRONG. The way she works the problems out are soooooooooooooooo confusing and then she gets annoyed when you dont understand what shes saying. Plus she expects you to remember everything you learned from precalc and blah blah blah. But overall, yeah unless you decide you want to be confused as hell I would say she's not the prof for you.

Dr Choi is an extremely intelligent mathematician (or at least appears to be). However, she is by far the WORST teacher I have ever recieved instruction from in my entire life. She barely speaks english, speeds through class as though all the studends have been learning the material since they were born, and is hardly approachable. I asked to make up a quiz due to an unplanned court hearing, and with legal documentation of my visit, she still would not let me make up the quiz, replying, "me no let makeup of homeworks." Dr Choi is a horrible teacher, and if you understand anything she says in class then kudos to you. How I recieved an A, I will never know, for I learned absolutely NOTHING in her class.

This is the second Applied Calc teacher I have taken here at Ship, because I took John Cooper the first time and got a D. I never had calc in high school, so I had no idea where to start. I'm sure Prof. Choi is great at math, but she can not teach it. She thinks it is all easy, which it is, but not to someone who has never seen calc before. I had to teach myself. She assigns a fair amount of homework, so if you are comfortable with the homework, you will do well on the exams. If you never had calc and you take her, my advice would be to do the homework and go to a tutor once or twice.

Picture this...you are in class, taking notes that resemble chicken scratches on a piece of paper due to the amount of times the professor screws up on the blackboard, only to come to the end of a problem for which she has no answer for and responds by saying "I don't know the answer." Not to mention the fact that she will walk out of the room for no apparent reason. And she speaks broken english. She will give you the practice tests the class before the test and some of it you will have no clue how to do. Homework easy 100% grade since its off of myMathLab and you get unlimited chances. Tests and quizzes can be easy or difficult depending on if you look back at notes and study guides and do some problems from MathLab. cant say I retained as much as I would like to have though because of lack of explanations. clarification came through myMathLab.

Dr. Choi usually made mistakes while she wrote examples on the board so you have to be careful what you write down and copy...sometimes she doesnt notice when she makes a mistake and that confuses many students. In her classes I advise that you pay attention and take all the notes.. I NEVER even opened the textbook.. she hardly even refers to it..all your notes are handed out to you in the beginning of class and then she goes through the examples and formulas which you copy down. The tests are challenging, however with study you will get a good grade. Homework is assigned with around 100150 problems but you have about 34 weeks to complete it. She also teaches fairly fast but if you speak up she will go over your questions/issues. Make sure that you are willing to show up in class to take the notes and study before exams. If you do not like to do either of those things or even one of those things...then you definitely wont want to take her classes!!

This comment is neutral b/c I can't stand to give a completely negative review of someone who is nice. Choi really isn't a great teacher. Her accent is thick and her explanation skills leave quite a bit to be desired. Makes lots of basic arithmetic mistakes. She is, however, cool personalitywise. She lets you use your notes on quizzes and doesn't collect homework.

She is a very nice woman. She goes pretty fast, but if you've had calc before it isn't too bad. Listen hard, cause she is hard to understand. Very nice, and always "thanks you for coming" to class. I liked her a lot, up to the day when I walked in to get my mid term grade and she said, and I quote, "You got C+".

Choi's class was easy because I had hard math classes in high school. But I really couldn't understand what she was saying half the time. She has really broken english and is hard to understand.

If u know calc ahead of time then take her, the extra credit will build up, but if u never had calc or are not good with math, then u might want to look for someone else.

Choi... I never really had to study, there were only about 3 homework assignments with about 5 problems each. The only problem was she was a horrible teacher; she never knew what she was doing. If you haven't had calc in high school or with another teacher, don't take Choi.
