Dr. A is really good prof. He knew that I am not good in science at all and he helped me to get a really good grade. He had 4 tests and 2 of them were taking home exams and 2 were in class. I believe he gave extra points to all students. If you hate science just take him and you will be fine.

Dr. A was a decent professor. He explains everything very thoroughly during the first week or two of the semester, then he picked up the pace considerably. The material is pretty lame, pretty difficult, and he isn't the best at teaching it. He is a very easy grader though (tests are open notes & book). For example, exams are 5 questions and if you slaughter one question but write down your work, he takes off ten points and moves on to the next one. As long as you make an attempt you'll get a decent grade. His accent can get sketchy, you need to focus

I took the class a few years ago (never made a comment so might as well now). It was an intro Physics class. He had a strong accent and can be difficult to understand. Sit in the front row and it's much easier to understand. He has a very unique way at looking at the world. The class was amazing and really makes you think about things. It cuased me to take up an amatuer interest in physics. I found all the tests very easy. If your not very interested in physics and can't get past his accent, then you might not like it. I know of few of my classmates hated the class.

I had Dr. A for my intermediate physics III class last semester. Dr A's approach to physics is different from all other professors that I have encountered for the past two years at Ship. He has a rare mathematical talent that makes the lecture very exciting. I have learned for the first time how physics could be derived from a few fundamental equations, something I thought was not possible. In short if you are looking for an adventure of a lifetime in physics you should take this course with Dr. A.

I learned alot from this class with Dr.A. There is no one else who could have taught it more effectively. He gave out about 6 graded homework assignments for your grade. They were not bad as long as you worked hard on them. I learned material on Complex Analysis and Fourier Analysis I never knew before. If you aren't a physics major and are considering taking a good/hard physics course, take Math Physics with Dr.A.

I had Dr. A. for Intermediate Physics III. I found him to be an outstanding teacher who cares a lot about his students. Dr.A has a special talent of breaking difficult concepts into elementary components that can be comprehended by the average student. If you care about a true understanding of the subject then Dr.A is your man.

Dr.A is an extremely intelligent man. He is the smartest professor that I have seen at Ship. This class was not too difficult as long as you are willing to work. There are 2 midterms (20% each), a final (30%), lab (20%), and homework (10%). He has an arabic accent which I thought was not difficult to understand since I sat near the front and could hear him clearly. He is a very friendly professor and is always willing to help if you put the work for his class.

Dr. A is the best professor in this entire school, and they're lucky to have him. He knows how to teach. He doesn't expect you to regurgitate formulae or understand something that's just given to you. He thoroughly goes over the background to the concept so that by the time you get to the relevant formulae, you could have written them yourself. If you're a math major, or if you plan on doing ANY kind of science professionally, you --NEED-- to take Math Physics with Dr. A. Talk to your department chair and get it to count as a Class A or C gen ed if you have to. Calculus 2 is all you need to have taken. He will take things that you took for granted, make them make sense, and extend them so that you can do sums and integrals that you never thought possible. Further, if there's anything you don't understand, go to his office. He's always there, and he will sit there for 2 hours if he has to until you've got it down. You can get as good a grade as you're willing to spend time with him.

It will take you a few days to understand what he is talking about because of his HEAVY Arab accent. After that though, this class was very easy, straight forward, and right out of the book. He had only 1 project which involved writing a 2-page paper about the Movie "Red Planet." This is very easy and required very little time. If you can get past his accent, this is a must take class.

This guy is the man. You never have to go to class because everything he teaches is in the book, and besides he gives HUGE curves on the tests. I was getting 15 out of 30's on tests and with his curve it translated to a B+. I didnt go to class for 2 and a half weeks straight and showed up for the test and got a B on it , his tests are hard but he curves the shit out of them. On test days you see so many people show up that youve never seen before because class is not required. This class is easy as shit and Dr. A is the man, if you wanna get a Gen Ed out of the way and you dont take this class your a fool.

Don't take him. No one in our class had any idea what was going on. His thick Libyan accent makes him hard to understand. Besides just that, he just really is not an effective prof, you won't learn anything and will find yourself just trying to get through the class.

Subject: Physics for Distant Professors  (Apr 08 2010, 10:33PM)

Class:Physics for Society (A)
13 of 38 students found this review helpful.

I took this physics class as a gen ed hoping it would be in the slightest bit interesting and applicable to some form of SOCIETY, as the class title appropriates. However, I was sorely mistaken that I would learn anything in this class whatsoever. Dr. A clearly states that there will not be any equations on the exam, but all his lectures consist of are equations. He did not lie, but the class was meaningless. Additionally, there was no need to buy the book. He goes over the exam the two full classes before the exams themselves. He'll read the class 100 questions (only puts 85 on the exam), answer them for you, and allow you to to copy the exam if you would like. Therefore, you need not actually pay attention in class, nor do you need to show up since he doesn't take attendance. There was an entire week of class in which he showed the horrid Sci-Fi movie "Red Planet" starring Val Kilmer. He had a grad assistant take attendance for extra credit, and required us to write a 1-2 page paper on scientific flaws with the movie. HINT: just google the movie and enjoy a week off class. He has two tests, midterm and final, and three papers: two based on movies watched in class. The papers have loose guidelines, no specific page length, and I wouldn't be surprised if he just gave students credit for merely turning them in. If you decide to take this class, take it with a group of friends so you can enjoy it more, or just take your laptop to get work done for other classes.

Dr. A is a smart guy, don't get me wrong, but I didn't learn ONE thing about stars, the sky or anything else in the universe for that matter because I spent three months doing calculus equations! BAH! I did okay because I had calculus in high school, but a lot of people were more than lost. Every exam was multiple choice, but it was nothing but equations. His lectures were incredibly boring, that is if you could even understand what he was saying. I'm sure for physics he's great, but he SUCKED at teaching astronomy. What a disappointment. That's one class I wish I could do over. Don't take him for this class.

I took Dr. A his first semester here. He gave HUGE curves because no one had any idea what was going on (no one in the class was a physics major). He has trouble bringing his knowledge down to a fundamental level, as needed for this class. I don't know if he'll continue to curve, but if he does, you don't need Physics II, & you are good at understanding EXTREMELY STRONG ACCENTS (unlike me), I'd take him. If you need Physics II, do NOT take him because you will not have learned much in I...
