I had her for a 3-hour night class, so of course it was difficult to pay attention, but she made it as easy as possible with breaks and 1/2 class lecture and 1/2 working in groups. Her tests came straight from the notes and were not that hard. I would definitely take her again, she is one of the friendliest teachers you can take.

I had her for my 6:30-9:15 class and I thought she kept my attention better than most people would for such a long class. The tests have a lot of material with tough essays but she tries to make sure none of her students fail which I feel is important.

She's strict about attendance (which wasn't too big a deal for me, because it was a night class), and her tests had a tendency to be tough (at least the essay portion, the multiple choice wasn't too bad). I actually enjoyed her "big semester project", which was a paper in which we created our own culture and then had some sort of modern day influence introduced to it. Her class may not be the most exciting thing in the world, but she gives outlines for her in class topics on her website, which help out. The bottom line is, if you're taking Cultural Anthropology, you could certainly do a lot worse than having Boden as your prof. Her class was easy, but not if you sleep through it. Peace out.

This lady is, I don't even know how to put it nicely... I guess the proper word (as nice as humanly possible) would be scatter brained. So far in the semester we have had 5 classes.... shes called off for 3. She gives you 2 exams, each 250 points. She also makes you write a journal that she also collects 3 times for 100 points each. Personally, I don't feel like anyone in this class can learn anything when the professor misses 60% of assigned class. She also wonders why the class average was a 7% on her pop quiz she just handed back. Sometimes I do wonder why Shippensburg hires some of the people they do. If you have any sense whatsoever in your mind... you will avoid this adjunct professor and take Dr. James or Dr. Loveland. Even Lorenz is better, and that should explain miles. For a 3 hour night class, this lady is one I regret taking. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR. She is the devil cloaked in the disguise of a woman.

Her class defeated the point of learning at all!!!! I had her class Monday night, and even though we only met once a week she was always canceling classes!!!! she canceled 3 weeks in a row at the beginning of the semester!! Its a very dry subject and she doesn't make it interesting at all.

I found it down right impossible to stay awake during this woman's unbearable lectures. She takes attendance and grades for it otherwise there'd be no point in going. Everything she says is in the book or in the outlines she posts online. She's a really picky grader on tests and homeworks, even on opinion type questions that start with "what do you think..." Guarenteed you'll lose at least half of the possible points if your opinion doesn't match hers. The worst part of everything is that I had to walk from Naugle to Gilbert (complete opposite end of campus) just to take a nap.

Maybe she would be less boring if you were taking another class that she taught but the class I had was very boring and hard to study for. The tests are hard and so is the homework...i wouldn't take her again.

 1. Karen is a nice lady, which is a positive, HOWEVER; she only becomes friendly after you prove to her that you do the work, the reading, and participate.
2. She only teaches night classes, (the 3 hour long version), however; she doesnt like to teach and calls in a car accident, death in the family, flood (on a sunny day), illness every week. So in turn you're left with 4-5 classes out of the 12 that she's supposed to teach which makes the midterm hard since you dont learn most of the material.
3. Besides a midterm, you only have to write 2 papers (2 pages in length each)... which she slaps 100%'s on.
4. Her participation points (200 points/35% of your grade) are based on the number of times you log into D2L. So you dont have to go to class, she takes attendance but NEVER attributes it, she uses it as a scare tactic.
5. For an Anthropologist and a teacher I thought she was very VERY terrible. She was completely perplexed when we asked her about quincieras (Mexican girl celebration at age 15.. And she slaps A's on everything which kinda made me angry since I am an anthro minor and learned nothing. However, if you want an easy 'A' take her. the 3 hour class is hard to get through, so beware.
6. PS dont buy the books. They aren't necessary.... like ever. She does everything through powerpoint. Save yourself some $$$, I'm giving this review because I wish someone would have given me a thorough background check on this professor. GOOD LUCK!
