I really enjoyed Dr. Martey's class. I'm not much of a chem person, but she managed to make the material easy to understand and had me interested most of the time I was in class. She uses power points in her lectures, so you really only need the book to do the homework, which you have weekly, but it helps you do well on the 2 exams you have. The labs are a piece of cake, and she's always around to help you if you need it. Overall, I really enjoyed her class and having her as a prof, and I would recommend her to anyone who's not so into chem but has to take the class.

Dr. M-O is the nicest teacher ever! She drops off a couple of the lowest quizzes and I think one of the homework assignments. 1 presentation, I got 100%, and I think 3 tests. Quizzes every friday were very easy if you could only take 10 minutes out of your time to study. Tests were a little more difficult, but if I could survive through the class for my first semester with a B, anybody can do it, just get to know her and I think it might help out a bit. Very Great Prof!

Dr. Martey-Ochola is a great professor. She is extremely nice and very helpful. I went to her office hours many times to ask questions about class, and she was always there to talk with me for however long I needed. I disliked my Chemistry class in high school so I wasn't looking forward to taking this class, but she taught me to appreciate the subject and made it very easy for me to succeed.

Subject: Great Prof/Person  (May 17 2005, 12:47AM)

Dr M-O is a great lady and a great teacher. Biochem is pretty serious stuff, but I had a good time with it (some classmates would yell at me for saying so, maybe) and you can really learn a lot. The book is paralleled closely; reading it will probably help you a lot. If you do a fair amount of studying, you can get at least a B (given you've done ok in prerequisites) in this class. There IS a curve which helps a kid out when trying to get a decent grade. Dr. M-O is very fair & also very willing to help you learn. I HIGHLY recommend dr. M-O. Good luck (biotech guy's right about dropping quizzes & a test... it's another nice thing about the class).

This class was not easy. If it was not for the curve, I would not have done so well. There were 3 tests plus the final, but the lowest test grade (not counting the final) was dropped. 6 quizes (drop the lowest 3). There are also other grades, such as summaries, class participation, and poster session (including research paper) which help to bolster your grades. This class was 75 minutes on Tue and Wed, so it was hard to stay awake sometimes, but if you read the book and study hard, you should escape with at least a "B". Good luck.

This class was just like your basic chemistry in high school. She is extremely nice and very willing to help you if you ask her. There are 3 tests including the final, but they are not too difficult. There is a quiz every week and again not too difficult and they help you keep up with the material. There was a short presentation but she graded extremely easy and it was not hard to do at all. Take her if you can.

Dr. Ochola is extremely nice and she's always willing to help out if you need it. Her class was difficult but she gives extra credit opportunities pretty often. I would definitely recommend taking her for a class.
