DR. Dagnes is so cool and down to earth that she makes her class excited and really enjoyable. She is so sweet and really wants students to pass. Her exams are application but during her lectures she makes the material so relatable that her exams are so easy. Because of her class she made me want to double major in Political science. She is wonderful and she gives tons of extra credit opportunities... definitely, definitely take her !!!!

Professor Dagnes is the reason I changed my major. She is funny and relates current events to class. The first class I had with her was US Govt & Politics. If you haven't taken that class yet make sure you schedule her section, you won't regret it.

Dagnes is one of the funniest teachers on campus, she always shows clips in the beginning of the classes and attendance is required but she just makes the class fun so you want to be there. It's incredibly easy to do well in her class.

Everyday she has an xl Dunkin donuts coffee in hand, gets excited at anything and everything, and relates on a personal level to students. In class she cracks jokes, swears, tells irrelevant stories, and occasionally teaches. She understands students and does nice gestures like offering up to 5% of your grade in extra credit and cancelling class for the Monday morning after homecoming weekend. If you easily get offended or are an extremely serious student I would recommend not taking her.

First, let me tell you that yes-- her ideology is very apparent from the get-go. She, like so many other college professors is liberal (SURPRISE!! you really need to get over it.) She takes her job seriously, and she loves every minute of her profession. I am in her American Interest Groups class right now and absolutely love it!! Sure, it can be difficult at times... but what class can't. This is college, your exams should be all essay--so you can not only show that you know the content, but also that you can apply it. As someone who plans to go to graduate school to study American Gov't and Southern Politics, I find Dr. Dagnes a valuable asset to my educational career. Not only is she full of information on every political topic ever in existence-- she is also one of the most friendly, accommodating souls I've ever met. When you read comments on this site, please take them with a grain of salt. I am not ashamed of my opinions, as I clearly sign my name and major to this comment. I would further like to add that the comments about her being a "shrew" are highly misplaced. I am a Republican, and let me tell you that she definitely does not discriminate grades on ideology or your party affiliation. Please don't let the one bad egg who hated her detract you from taking her. She truly has made a tremendous difference in my life and educational career. Plus Iím looking at an A in the class.

She is so much fun! You start class off talking about news. She keeps her lectures entertaining and you don't feel bored at all. I remember what she said just because she had a great way of saying it. You do need to study though, read your text! She grades fairly and the essays aren't bad. WOULD RECOMMEND TAKING HER FOR ANYTHING YOU CAN!

I loved her class, and I'm really not that into the government or politics. Even though some days the stuff she taught wasn't the most interesting, she would liven it up with a funny story or something. If you don't like profanity, I wouldn't take her class, but I found her to be absolutely hysterical and never found her offensive. I didn't miss a single day of her class because I looked forward to going to it and seeing what she had to say. The tests she gives really aren't that hard either as long as you go to class and take notes on her lectures. I would absolutely suggest her to anyone.

Dagnes is such a good professor. I was a little concerned about taking the class because I'm not really interested in government. BUT Dagnes related everything we learned to present day. She is such a great professor and she is always willing to work with you if you stop by her office. If you work hard and stay on top of things, you will do fine and maybe even surprise yourself!  Professor Dagnes is the greatest professor I have ever had. She wants you to work hard and try your best, but she makes the material so easy to understand. Class is never boring, and she is always in a good mood. She makes jokes, gives great examples, and can relate to a student personally. She is not only the most amazing teacher, but she is also a great person outside the classroom. Her availability is anytime/anywhere. If you need to take a gov class or even just enjoy this topic, she is most definitely the teacher to take! (:

She is always enthusiastic and fun. Even on bad days she is smiling and jumping around. It didn't hurt that the class itself was crazy fun. In short- She is awesome, her classes are always fun.  Take her. She is so energetic and funny. She is genuinely interested in the subject, and will make you care about it too. When I first had her, I couldn't have cared less about politics. Now I am definitely interested. She swears a lot, so if that offends you, then don't take her. Her tests are kind of hard, but as long as you study, you will be fine. You have to write 3 papers, but they are only 1 page. I definitely recommend her to anyone. I loved her!

Great Prof. She is so much fun. She really ties the class into real life knowledge.. I wasn't a big political buff before her class. But she made me want to know everything that's going on in the world or politics. I changed my home screen to BBC because of her. She gets you so involved in politics--in a FUN EASY way. We wrote 2 or 3 papers, which we had fun in and I even cursed in one of them and she put a smile face next to it. She made the final Optional, because I went to question an ambassador who came to campus to speak. Take her, you'll have fun, it'll be easy, and you'll learn SOO much!!

She seems to be very fair. She is always awake during class and tries to remain upbeat when things are not going so well for her. She is nice and approachable and is willing to help and explain anything. She does give a good amount of work but nothing is hidden. She is good about reviewing for tests and answering any questions that you might have. She does require you to write papers but they are not terribly hard things to do if you prepare for them the way you should and she will correct them as many times as you like with feedback. She can also be quite funny. I totally recommend having her as a teacher.

Dr. Dagnes is a fantastic professor; she's exactly the kind of instructor that I'd like to be when I'm a professor (someday in the very, very dim and distant future). I had her for two classes last semester, American Political Thought and The American Presidency (and got A's in both). She required 2 papers and a written midterm and final exam for the Presidency course, and three papers and a final paper for Political Thought. She's always in her office when she says she will be and is very good about returning emails promptly. She's always willing to take time out to help with whatever you might need. The only slightly negative feedback (if you can even call it that) that I have is that at 9:30 a.m. when most of us are barely coherent, she's happy and bouncy and caffeine-ridden, so that might come off as just slightly annoying. As far as her grading requirements, I got an A on every single assignment but one in both courses (I got one A- and one B, respectively), and I didn't find her especially challenging. Yes, she has an attendance requirement, but all the best professors do when you get to upper-level courses...suck it up and go to class. Aside from being a good professor, Dr. Dagnes is a really great person and has gone out of her way to help me several times in the three or so years that I've known her. If you're lucky enough to schedule one of her classes, enjoy it; she's a really amazing person and one of the best professors that I've had during my time at Ship.

I really had very little interest in paying attention to politics before I took this class. Dr. Dagnes was an extremely effective professor and I absolutely loved her class. Although, at times, I was slightly bored with the actual content, she made it interesting enough in lecture to get my attention involved. She's a very fair professor and her class is moderately difficult, but she makes sure to give you everything you need to be successful in her class.

First of all, I have to say that Dr. Dagnes wasn't the original professor for this course. About 1/3 of the way into the class, our original professor had to take a leave of absence (for medical reasons, I think) and Dr. Dagnes took over. What a change! Our first prof. was pretty monotone and boring, but Dr. Dagnes came in there, determined to learn all of our names and actually had us interact as a class (something the other prof. didn't do, ever). She wants her students to respond, to talk about current events and to LEARN something in her class. Unfortunately, she used the other profs tests, which were terrible. If you needed help, though, she was there to work with you and accepted extra credit. Knowing that I'm in the military and have been to Iraq, Dr. Dagnes always made it a point to ask my opinion on certain subjects. Having a prof. who actually cares about her students really makes a difference. Make yourself known, she'll make sure you're taken care of.

Dr. Dagnes has to be the best Prof. She made this class so much better than it should be. Every day you talk for no less than 15 mins about anything happening in the world(politics, sports, news, etc). You have 3 tests & 3 1-page opinion papers. The tests could be kinda difficult if you don't study or take notes. No real need to read. She gives up to 5 extra credit chances (go to speeches and write a paragraph). These extra credits are worth a PERCENTAGE POINT each! She actually had a guy come and talk and if u went and wrote a page about what he said you didn't have to write the last paper and got a EC point! She is also hilarious and is so down to earth, if you would need help(not just from her class) she would help u in a second. MUST TAKE HER

She is by far the funniest and best professor I have had. I knew NOTHING about politics or government..but she makes the class so much fun, and its interesting. Every day you talk about current events and then you usually take notes, she writes them down on the board. She is the most outgoing teacher ever, and sooooo funny. She has possibly the funniest stories that she tells too. Her tests are kind of hard, at least to me because I started off knowing basically nothing about politics. She takes clips of newspaper articles and then has about 5 questions relating to each, theyre multiple choice. And if youre not good at multiple choice you can take an optional exam which is basically short answer/ mini essays where you just write as much as you can on whatever topic is given to you. There were no papers due in the class, we had one but then she made it xtra credit instead of mandatory. She offers a lot of extra credit too. All you have to do is attend a campus event that deals with politics or something close and write up a short paragraph about it then hand it in to her. There are plenty of things to attend too. She doesnt take attendance either...only maybe 2 rare occasions did she take it. Awesome professor...take her!!!

Dr. Dagnes is one of the greatest professsors at Ship. I went in the class expecting it to be boring and I got anything but that. She relates what she's talking about to real life. You have to put some work into her class but she makes it soo much fun. It's rather hard to fail her class considering she is always giving you a way to get extra credit. If on an exam more the 50% of the class misses a question she throws it out and curves the test. If you need help studying for an exam she is more than willing to take the time to help you, I went in one time and we sat on her office floor and reviewed for the exam. A lot of times she cuts you a break, like you have simulations you have to do and instead of making you come to class on a Friday, if you have a simulation you get to stay home and do it. If you have an option to take her for a class I would highly recommend that you do so because she is an absolutely great professor.

I've taken Dr. Dagnes twice and now, and she's not only the best Professor I've ever had, she's also the only one in which you can tell that she absolutely loves what she's doing. Sure, there are people who will like her-she makes you work, suck it up. You go to college to learn, and this is exactly what you get from her class. Pay attention, do the work, and she's more than willing to help you along the way. She doesn't care about your political ideology; she just wants you to think before you speak. If you make an assertive statement, one that goes in opposition to her thinking, she'll question you on it, and if you provide a reasonable answer, she praises you...every time. I've seen it, and I've been a part of it. You can't use the excuse that she didn't agree with your opinion, when "not doing the work" was the real reason you failed.

Dr. Dagnes is seriously the best professor you could hope to take. Her personal experiences working at c-span and her incredible knowledge of the subject material really made the class enjoyable and easy to follow. She usually has an anecdote to tell with each lesson, but she is hilarious, and you will finish the course work on time. Dr. Dagnes and I come from opposite ends of the political spectrum, but I can't think of anyone I would rather talk politics with. As long as you are open-minded and respectful of opinions you disagree with, you will get along just fine. She does not hate straight males or Republicans. She's married to one!! It is possible to disagree without being disagreeable and that is what this class is all about. If you get a chance to take this prof, do it.

Extremely energetic and passionate about politics, she made a dry subject (to me) pretty interesting. Before becoming a prof, she worked at C-SPAN in Washington D.C., so she's had a taste of the real world and know's what she's talking about. Her mission as a prof, as she'll tell you, is to get us students to be more aware of the world around us, something she does by devoting the first portion of class to discussing the current news. The two or three papers she assigned were a drag to write, but if you're into politics you probably won't mind them. She voluntarily took our class on a field trip to Washington D.C. and, using all her connections in the real world, got us a tour of FOX News. Overall, very enthusiastic and passionate prof. You'll learn a lot from her.

Dr dagnes is quite an interesting character. She is always up and talking at 8am. Her classes are pretty easy with her just lecturing and you have to take good notes to study from. She offers plenty of extra credit if you don't do well on the exams (which you probably won't). She makes you earn your grade and its tough to get a B on a paper for her. She will kill your paper that you write but if you read her comments about it it might help you in the long run. A very nice lady and definitely should take her.

What everyong else says is true, her tests are hard, but as long as you study, it's fine. If I would have studied more I would have done better, it was kind of easy to forget about studying because of the laid back atmosphere. That was the only draw-back. The papers/projects were fine, not hard at all. I had her at 8am, and she made it sooo much easier to get up that early in the morning. She's funny, and tells great stories to help you understand the material. [] She is always available if you want to talk about the class. I would highly recommend her to anyone taking U.S. Government and Politics or anything else, you won't be dissapointed!

She is enthusiastic, good at conveying knowledge to students. Also helping students apply what they learned in class to everyday experiences. Overall it was a lot of work but worth the time spent. On a lighter note, DAGNES-CLINTON 2008!!!

Dr. Dagnes was one of my only professors that i would ever actually want to be around outside of the class room. She's a very real person and because of that her classes were interesting. She's alive and makes her subject interesting and engaging - even for an english major. Her tests aren't easy though - it's easy to have so much fun in her class that you forget you actually have to read and study for the tests. She gives you alot of extra credit things which are nice because they help you realize your subject is a happening subject not just something to read about in the textbooks. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Dagnes.

Dr. Dagnes is an amazing prof!! Her experience in the system really helps combined with her energetic teaching style makes for one of the most awesome classes I've ever had. Poli Sci has always been interesting to me, but she relates it to what goes on in our every day lives and it helps us apply it and learn it so much easier. Her tests are now all multiple choice, but you gotta study to get a B or A.. she makes you EARN it. She gives a LOT of extra credit though, just take advantage of it. Also, if she knows your face (which she learns quite quickly), it will work to your advantage too. Take Dr. Dagnes- it's the best early morning class you will EVER have!!!

Dr. Dagnes ALWAYS keeps politics interesting! She takes pride in her teaching and is willing to educate as far as the student wants to learn. She understands the capabilites of individual student along w/ maintaining a quick flow to the class. Her classes require some work, but what effective teacher doesn't force the student to apply themselves? I highly recommend Dr. Dagnes!!

Dr.Dagnes was an awesome professor! Her energy and enthusiasm are unequal to any of my previous profs. She's a morning person(8am class) and she knows how to wake you up in her own unorthodox ways.  Instead of memorizing details, Dr. Dagnes focuses on major (and sometimes minor) trends. Instead of simply telling you what the trends are, she tries to set up the class so that the students figure out the trends for themselves. It isn't as easy as it sounds. However, it puts a good spin on the learning process for Political Science majors. Her tests aren't extremely difficult. It depends on how you look at it. It's hard to fail a test but it is also hard to get an A. She is not a slave driver but prepare to do a decent amount of work. Her antics are hillarious, too. I recommend Dr. Dagnes.

Dr. Dagnes is one of those professors that you should feel privileged to have! She is an amazingly knowledgeable and funny professor. I cannot say enough good things about her except to TAKE HER IF POSSIBLE!!!!! I have her for an 8am class MWF and I thought it was going to be awful. As it is though she makes sure you are all awake by making you throw your hands in the air and yell obscenities. It seriously is a little wacky and zany, but it works. As long as you read the chapters and keep up with what she is saying in class it is not hard at all to do well in her class. She offers plenty of extra credit that is as easy as finding a newspaper article and bringing it into class. She is the best professor I've had yet and if I ever have the chance to take her again I will with no regrets!!!

If you go to class, pay attention and slightly read over the text... you'll be fine. A lot of her test is essay, but she lets a lot slide on it as well. She's a great teacher whose energy kept me awake every day at 8AM! All she asks is that you know what you're talking about. She's only interested in educating you on our political system, which can be helpful in so many ways.

dr dagnes is a kick ass prof. she is always there when you need to talk, about class or about dumb stuff that has no relevance to school...she loves participation, and encourages comments, whether knowledgable or not, from everyone... her tests are not easy, but they do test the info she told you to read and the info given in class...of course she tests on the readings, this is not high school...definitely take her if you truly care about learning anything and having a good time while you are at it..

Well let's see, first off, she didn't teach. She just ranted the entire semester about how whitey is keeping womankind and (insert minority group of choice here) down. She has a major problem with personal bias. I don't think she likes conservatives or men, at all. Everyday in class, she offered extra credit if you could find an article that dealt with misogyny for her to hemorrhage over for the first quarter of class. The other three quarters were usually devoted to her personal anecdotes about how hard it is for a woman living in a man's world and how she has 'taken on' the system by getting pro-life doctors fired and a bunch of other kooky crap that would get banned here. She cannot accept (dare I say, even understand) a conservative viewpoint which I found hilarious considering she teaches political science. I think she believes that conservatives have some sort of mental problem and it's her duty from Radical Feminist High Command to rehabilitate them. There is also heavy grade bias. She won't give you a decent grade unless you spit back at her on assignments what she spits at you in class. The first assignment, I said what I thought- I got a B, the second, I wised up and came to her conclusions; I got an A. That by the way, is how you pass her classes. Don't you dare send her anything which she wouldn't give a Far-Left stamp of approval. If you're up for a semester of Feminist Supremacism take her, otherwise, run like hell. If you do have to take her and you happen to be Republican, keep it in the proverbial closet if you know what's good for you.

Good lord, what a biased woman. She grades you based on whether or not she agrees with your politics. If you are a flaming liberal and shake your head "yes" at all of her sermons...err, I mean classes, you get an A by default, but if you are conservative and she knows it, the most you ever get is a B. She really seems to dislike straight guys too since they seem to be the cause of all women's problems in her little head. She has no idea how to seperate her ultra-left poliical convictions from her teaching. This is the first time in my 4 year history in political science that a class has felt more like everyday is a femi-nazi sermon than an actual class. She has no room for anyone's opinions but her own. She doesn't teach, she preaches. This was by far the most horrific experience of my college career. This lady would be better served to quit college and go start her own feminist cult out in the middle of Wyoming where no one and their QPA will be bothered by her incessant whining. And whatever you do, don't complain to anyone! All she will do in response is assign a sh*tload of time consuming frivilous homework assignments like taping a woman on tv and then bringing the tape to class to talk about it, or write a 2 mintue campaign speech for a woman's issue overnight. God, what a psycho, I'd rather be forcibly sodomized by a prickly broomstick than take her again--YES! It really was that bad.

Dr. Dagnes is a very nice lady outside of the classroom but I can't stand her as a professor. I had this prof at 8 a.m. and let me just tell you if you weren't awake when you went in you'll be awake and annoyed when you leave. She's loud and annoying and tries way too hard to connect to her students. She makes you do stupid activities like jumping jacks or sing or childish games to try and wake you up to pay attention but it just annoys the students even more. She's very biased against certain students and she's so picky about the littlest things. Her tests suck; unless you know exactly what she wants the answer to be don't expect to get an A. I consider myself a good student, I have A's in all of my other classes and study harder and work twice as hard in the class and still can't accomplish an A. She's crappy at grading papers and holds it against you if you show any type of interest in a subject. [] Her screaming and childish antics will leave you not only in a crappy mood but doesn't help you learn the subject any better. If you don't have to take her don't and especially not at 8 a.m in the morning.

Dr. Dagnus is a nice person, but she switches her teaching methods all the time. You never know if you're going to follow with an overhead (which doesn't help anyway), jump around topics, or just follow through the book. It's almost impossible to take notes because she goes so fast. It's hard to pick out what to focus on because she flies over stuff that is on the tests. I wouldn't recommend taking her. Her tests are hard, she's hard to follow, she picks favorites, and she swears a lot.

This professor is always available, she has a lot of energy, and is extremely enthusiastic about teaching and mentoring her students. On a side note, I saw her in the gym once, and the lady is freakishly strong. She was easily pumping out reps of what looked like well over her body weight on the bench press. So students beware! DO NOT CROSS HER! It may be harmful to your health

Professor Dagnes is absolutely hilarious. She is definitely one of the funniest people I have ever heard. This definitely made the classes enjoyable. She made a very boring subject into a fun subject. She tells so many stories and is just a riot. The only downfall was that her tests are pretty difficult. I studied and read the books and still did poorly. She tests very oddly.

Dagnes is a hilarious prof. She has the humor of jon stewart. Though her tests are extremly hard and u only have a few of them. So u must be a good test taker if u want to do well in class. I got a D cuz I suck at tests, but I paid attention cuz she was funny and the class felt worthwhile. Oh, shes also one of those profs that if u want to skip the class to type another paper, just copy the notes off someone else and u will be fine.
