Subject: A Great Course  (Feb 28 2004, 05:59PM)

For those of you who are interested in current events you'll really appreciate this course. You'll walk away with a better understanding of what goes on behind the scenes. There is no question that Schad knows his stuff and that the history of the Middle East is his passion. He is very well organized in his lectures which pull the readings together so they make better sense. I believe it would be possible to get away without doing any reading at all and just go from his lectures since they are so well packed. One classmate claimed to have never purchased the books and still did fine. But why do that? Get your moneys worth and read it all. The best part of the course was that it covered the history of alot of different groups, not just those in power. You'll definitely walk away with a better understanding of the regions diversity. There are 2 tests and 2 short essays from the readings. His tests are okay - he will give you a study guide beforehand which pinpoint the info he is to assess. If you study you will have no problem.

Everyone on here says that this guy is like the most boring prof. ever. Well here is a news flash for you : most people think history is boring no matter what prof. they have! Sure this guy does talk in a boring monotone and I sometimes question if he even breathes in between words, but he's a really good prof. You do not have much work to do (1 map quiz, 2 essays, a midterm and a final). Most of the work in the class is just SHOWING UP. He's a really nice guy, he's really smart, and he's not an ass when it comes to the tests(does not make you know dates). Take him if you get the chance : if not, take another prof. and it will be boring AND hard.

Schad is boring but he knows his stuff. His class doesn't require much, only that you are able to show up for class every day (its a big part of the grade) and that you need to write two essays throughout the semester. He's a really smart guy, and if you ever talk with him he can help you do better. An easy prof i would take again.

His classes are boring as all hell, but what history class isn't. Outside of his monotone lecturing every class, he's not that bad of a guy. His class is really easy. You have to do 2 papers which are pretty easy, a midterm and a final. He gives you a list of vocab words and the essays that are going to be used on the exams. There were no reading assignments outside the textbook material, but I myself havn't read much of that and I still find the class to be really easy. He does take attendence every class and the syllabus says that 20% of the final grade is based off of participation and attendence. If your looking for an easy history class, go with Schad. I didn't mind the class too much, so i'll be taking him again next sem for History II.

he can be a nice guy but around finals time he becomes an ass. he takes forever to get things back to you. you only have 2 papers, a midterm, a final, and a map quiz. the class is extremely boring.

Do not take this class early in the morning unless your sole goal in college is to get a nap during an 8am class. He is a little long winded and doesn't care when half the class is fast asleep. His tests are fairly easy if you listen or read the book. You do not need to do both. He is a pretty nice guy though and does not try to over load you with stuff to do with your other classes.

Boring! Boring! Boring! The sound of his voice will put you right to sleep. Other than that he is a resonable guy. He trys hard to be interesting and funny but sucks at it. Need to do a little work to do well - 2 papers 5 pages each.

He is pretty easy if you can bare to sit through his boring classes. He gives a map quiz(which was so easy!!!), 2 essays which are easy but a pain, and then a midterm & final. He gives you study guides for both of them and gives you the essay questions. Overall, he is an ok prof.
