Griff is probably the best professor I had while at ship. He was always there to help, he challenged you but that's what you need to learn. And he is always there outside of class for his students. I switched to him as my advisor and I can't even tell you how many times I walked into his office wanting to quit school and confused about life, he was always there and helped me realize what I wanted to do and helped me look into grad schools and made sure the schools were legit. Now in grad school I'm taking stats again and it's so easy for me because I actually learned something in griffs class! His life experiences are amazing I loved hearing his ridiculous stories! In legal he would explain something then give you past cases and in a group you would discuss whether it is what you're talking about or not then he'd go around the room and we would all discuss it. Best prof at ship if you need help with stats or anything he will help if he doesn't know he will find out for you. But if you take him be careful he likes to pull tricks!

Griff is an amazing proff. His class material can be complicated but if you try and you keep up you'll do great. I've taken 3 classes with him and am taking a 4th. I have gotten a D on an exam and he worked closer with me to help me bring my class grade up to an A. His intense exams can be frustrating but hes not bart so take him and you'll love him.

Stats one and two is really hard to understand but this man gives practical examples and makes class fun with the data sets being about drugs or alcohol. He is always there to help and cancels class a lot. He can be very evil tho when everyone does bad on an exam he gives you the option of retaking a mini quiz on the exam and if you get one wrong you get minus ten points from your exam or plus I think its twenty points if you get everyone right. Dont pick C on his exams it prob wont be right and he gives every class the option of walking out before an exam and everyone gets a 75% but no one ever does it. The stats exams are usually m.c. and problems. The multiple choice sucks and no one ever gets them right. Overall I loved Griffith he was really funny. Statistics is just hard, but Griff puts it as simple as it can be.

First...I cant believe there is a neg com about Griff. That com was made by some pissed off chick who expected an easy A for some reason and didnt get it. Yeah, I know that chick...dont listen to her. Griff is not one of the best professors I have ever had, he is THE BEST professor I have ever had hands down. Soooooo carefree about everything in the world. But seriously, smart as s***. Griff knows his stuff, you wouldnt think it by looking at him...but those of us who know him would all agree he is one brilliant man, and funny as all hell too. His stories are great...and if you have never heard about his "stalker" story go and ask him about it. His exams are hard, but come on guys this is college...and as long as you put in the time, you will do well. Griff is def a professor who wants his students to do well, he does not try to trick you, or pull anything on exams. And lastly, as most of us know...Griff does not care if you are in class or not, its up to you... but it is worth going just to hear his stories. All in all...great guy, and good class. And I agree...GRIFF FOR PRESIDENT!

His options he gives you that the class decides on can ruin your grade. My class was, every one did bad on the first test. Then we were given the option of 100 and the next test will be harder or keep the same grade and have an easier test next time. We voted 100 percent. Now when the second test was getting handed out... He offered to accept the first grade you received on the first test twice and we can skip this test OR take the hard test and keep the 100 percent that was given. You will never have a professor like Griff so I say take him. He is hard and screwy but it is a once in a life time opportunity to get a professor like him.

Griffith is a great prof. He tells interesting stories that realte to what you're learning and he always lets us out early. He gives us days to just practice what we learned and make sure we know what we're doing. He is straightforward so you know exactly what will be on the test

Class:Stats 1&2 (A)
12 of 37 students found this review helpful.

So I've been thinking lately about Griff's method to teaching stats, and I've come to the conclusion that it isn't something you can teach. I mean yes he shows us how to do everything, but what more can he do? It's totally on us whether we learn how to differentiate between the different tests, he's not going to hold our hands. So if you want to argue that he doesn't "teach" then take that as you will, but he will walk you through all the processes of doing the work. On a slightly different note, he is very willing to meet anytime and discuss anything you might not understand in the class. The last week or so of classes were optional, if we had questions we showed up, if not, we didn't. I went and he was more than happy to tell me everything I needed to know for the exam so I would be able to study. I'd advise taking him for stats if you want to actually learn how to do the work, but if you expect him to hold your hand, you'll be severely disappointed.

Dr. Griffith is a blast! He is incredibly knowledgeable about statistics and really enjoys teaching even though most of his students despise the subject. He is always available to help his students whenever they need it, whether it is during office hours or in class. He is even willing to make appointments outside of his office hours to meet with students who are in need of help. The material of the subject is difficult, but Griff does a fantastic job of explaining the material with practical examples. Rather than lecturing us to death, he allows us to work alone or in groups to do practice problem to prepare for exams. If you take good notes, study for the exams, show up for class, do the practice problems, and take advantage of the fact that Griff is always available to help, then you will have no problems passing his class with a decent grade. I would definitely recommend taking him...absolutely awesome!

This is just for those who read the negative comment left by Ms. Emily. Yes, that's right I was in the same class with her. So let ME tell you about the exam... Yes, alot of people got D's and F's. I got a D. But notice I got an A in the course because I took the risk of losing 7 points to get 20 and I studied. Eveyone who took the risk got the 20 points. Griff is a great guy and he's very reasonable. I agree GRIFF FOR PRESIDENT!

There is one Negative comment on here, and I was in the class in question. If plenty of people DID do well on the test, then anyone could have if you studied hard enough. Stats is a hard class, but Griff is ALWAYS available to help you out, and he is ALWAYS making class more interesting. I would advise anyone to take him, he is a blast, and an effective teacher.

He talks to you like a professional and never looks down on you, even though he knows everything. I wish I could take him again next semester but hes not teaching any classes I need. Even though he is awesome his tests are challenging and really make you think. Classes are so much fun to go to. You will def. learn if you take griff. Oh yea and he likes to jump outta things 15,000 ft in the air. lol go with griff ull love him

Dr. Griffith was my favorite professor so far at Ship. I seriously think that he is a little crazy, but in a good way. He dressed in jogging pants and t-shirts for most of the classes, was rarely shaven, and told the most outrageous stories. However, everyone in class respected him because he was totally real. His stories directly related to what he was teaching at the time and made it easier to remember the stuff later. You do have to read the book and study to pass the class and he gives lots of extra credit so it can really help. At first I thought that he was trying to prove a point by his looks, but I came to realize that is just the way he is and has nothing to do with him as an instructor. In fact, I think it makes him more approachable because he does not try to tell you how great he is. A psych major friend of mine showed me some of the stuff he has written and the guy knows his stuff. So, he may look rough and dress like a student and be a little crazy, but he is a great instructor and I highly recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Griffith is an AWESOME prof. You don't have to show up for class other than to take the tests, but most of his classes are fun so you want to go anyway. Theres no homework or classwork just 3 tests and an optional final. The tests are multiple choice and arent that bad but make sure you study a little. He also gives sooo many extra credit opportunities! This man is the sh*t!.. any prof that shows up to class everyday in sweatpants, a tshirt, and a visor gets an A in my book!! HOLLA DR. GRIFFITH!!

Dr. Griffith's class is very laid back, their is no demanded attendence. The outlines are on Blackboard and you just print them out. His lectures are so clarifying and effective. He tells amazing stories that you can't help but remember. There are 4 exams and an optional final, I suggest you do very well on the tests. Read, read, read! the chapter and you will do just fine on exams. He offers 2 extra credits and gives next no homework. Dr. Griffith is a wonderful professor and an all around great guy I would highly recommend him and look forward to taking him again myself.

Griffith is a good prof. His attendance policy is very lenient: I missed a lot of classes and still managed to pull a B-. I hardly read the book at all and still got, what I consider, a good grade. He cancels classes on Fridays on occasion which is awesome. Griffith teaches using overhead notes, which he e-mails to you to use as notes. He provides some interesting stories for each chapter so you won't get bored in class. Take him while you can!

No this class isn't insanely easy. You actually have to study, and go to class, but its worth it. Griffith makes for an interesting prof with his CRAZY stories and hilarious examples. Always tries to word things in ways that college students can understand. Plus if you take a morning class or a class on friday, he will probably cancel it because he just doesnt feel like it/skydiving. He cancelled my class for this friday because he said that its "bad luck" to have a class before halloween. Just awesome.

He does not care what others think of him and he is so laid back but also really funny. [] If you want a great professor who knows his stuff, take Dr. G.  Dr.Griffith is the best teacher that I had this semester. His tests are roughly 50 questions for each exam(4) and there is always about 4-5 bonus questions that deal with his life. He does not take attendance, it's up to you whether or not to attend. Class is always entertaining as he does not just lecture, but also provide examples for the things he teaches and involves students in discussions. No projects, no quizzes, and no essays. Oh, not to mention that even though it was a MWF class, he almost never held a Friday class because he likes to go skydiving, etc. then. If you are looking for a great teacher than take him if you get the chance

I love Dr. Griffith. Definetly one of my favorite professors ever at Ship. He makes class so interesting that although attendance is not required you never want to miss because he is that damn fun to listen to. There are 5 little papers that you have to write over the semester and if you actually hand it in and it is a page long you get the points, he doesn't even read them, he also forgot to give us 2 of the papers so the whole class automatically got the 10 points. His tests are not the easiest, you do have to read the book but if you do you can do well. I got over a 100 points on one of them. You will learn so much from Griffith without even realizing that you are. I'm telling you he is the best, take him if you can!

Dr. Griffith is an excellent Psychology teacher who does a great job of teaching information at a student level. He ties in real life information with his lectures, and he emails you the in class notes ahead of time so you can listen to what he is saying instead of focusing on writing down everything and not getting the point of his lectures. You will have to read the book and study well in order to receive a B or A on a test, because some of the test questions come from what is learned from the book (independently). Tests are usually 50 points multiple choice. If your looking for an effective, awesome Psychology professor, choose Dr. Griffith!

He isn't the prof to take. He gave an exam that was horrible. The class average was a 67. To make the average look better, he gave us a choice, to either add 7 points to our grade, or take a section of the test over and get 20 points added to our grade. The only catch was that you had to get all of the problems correct in order to get the 20 points or you would just end up with the grade you got. What ended up happening is all the people that did well on the exam got the 20 points and the rest none, which didn't even help us. He is suppose to be a stats prof, but I had stats before and he doesn't teach nearly as much as I learned in my regular stats class. He may be a good prof for psych classes, but not classes that involve statistics, he lacks that ability to teach.
