I feel Professor Minnick has been given a bad rap. This professor is not even my advisor, and she has inquired about how I was doing many times, being a non-traditional student, and listened and really seems to genuinely care. She wrote me a very nice reference letter and has seemed more interested in me as a student than any other professor on the staff. Regarding her teaching style, she did lecture a lot during class, which did seem to go on and on, but she did ask a lot of questions during the lectures in order to get some class discussion going on, which was usually quite interesting. I really liked how she gave us study guides before every class, which was very helpful to me. With all of the material covered in this class, the study guides were of great assistance to me before taking the exams. Her tests were not real difficult. If you read the chapters, go to class and study the study guides, a person shouldn't have any problem with any of the classes she teaches.

Professor Minnick had a tendency to lecture during most of the class. We only did one group project all semester. We basically read the book, and then took a unit exam on three chapters. Before each exam she gave us a study guide, which basically contained all of the information that would be on the test. If you study, you will get a good grade. Whenever I emailed her, she answered me very promptly, and would answer any question I had. One of her favorite topics to lecture on during class was sex at every level of a person's life.

Here's the deal. Minnick is a really cool young teacher. I had her for human relations lab and had a 100 going into the midterm. As long as you make sure you understand the assignments by going to see her you will get a good grade. Her tests are impossible but don't worry she grades everything else really easy. She's also a really cool person to talk to outside of class.

Dr. Minnick is a nice woman, I will give her that. She wants her students to do well but does not aid them in the slightest. Since she has turned to teaching mostly grad classes, she's forgetting that there is a difference. The quizzes are difficult, and the majority of the class is off-tangent conversation not even relevant to the chapter but to an assignment due weeks away. Not a fan, hope to not have her again.

Well, Prof Minnick requires 3 speaker reactions per semester that are 50 points a piece graded as a damn paper but gives you specific questions to answer.. its basically a nightmare and DEF use outside sources!! Its the only way to achieve this. The group presentations on the books you have to order through ebay etc. are so ridiculous! 45 minutes long and no structure.. the activism project was a JOKE! She grades outrageously slow and somewhat hard. OH! Big issue I had with her is that she's extremely nosey when it comes to group work. She had me so angry that I lost all respect for this woman about 6 weeks into the course. Oh and attendance is mandatory so don't skip like I did. lol = ) The book is used solely for online timed quizzes- be careful she changes the damn times allotted constantly! Seriously, you have to force yourself to go to this class. Take Genders early if you can get someone else! If you do get stuck with her just make small talk with her and you'll be a golden child & expect to teach yourself and watch vulgar movies frequently. Best of luck!

Subject: Nice lady, doesn't teach  (Oct 31 2007, 09:21AM)

OK so she is nice and likes to smile a lot, however she doesn't teach you at all. Everyone gives a group presentation everyday so you teach yourselves and then she gives really hard exams that aren't even on the chapters you were supposed to have read. She confuses everyone when she actually does speak and you have to write a 15 page paper that makes no sense at all. She'll look at you like you're dumb if you ask a question but I think it's because she doesn't really know the answer. She is sweet but she shouldn't be teaching, at least not this class...

She has no idea how to teach or run a class. You do group presentations every other week so basically your fellow students teach you the lessons. Her tests aren't that hard but this class is a drag with her. She is a terrible professor and nobody really ever listened to her during the class. When she did attempt to teach, she contradicted herself until everyone including herself was confused. TERRIBLE PROF, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

Professor Minnick is a decent teacher. She is available to answer your questions but makes it clear that she is not comfortable with her job. She often is unaware of the point she is trying to get across resulting in the whole class being confused. Tests are simple, require little effort. However, in this class, she does not teach at all. You are required to do four group presentations to cover the material in the book. Therefore, your classmates are your teachers. The presentations are so easy if you get a flexible group. I would not take Minnick again unless I absolutely HAD TO!

I heard a lot of bad things about her but she wasn't so bad for this class. She requires a lot of looking into yourself and crap like that, but overall it was an easy class. A lot of papers, but that's in any social work class. Overall, I would take her again although it wasn't the most enjoyable class I've ever had and she rubs some people the wrong way
