Dr. Mackie is a pretty decent professor. For every test he tells you basically what is going to be on it, but watch out for the multiple choice. Those suck. Make sure you know the multiple choice pretty well. Everything else is straight forward. He only teaches basically what is necessary for us to learn and doesn't make you do a bunch of pointless crap. Powerpoint teaching isn't always the best, especially at night because he can be kinda long-winded, but he give a lot of practical examples which explain how what you're learning will be helpful later on. He doesn't take attendance, and he rarely lets you out early. But overall, I'd recommend him.

Dr. Mackie is a great guy, he's very nice, he talks a lot about goat farming and living in Texas on the first day of class- which is kind of cool. Unfortunately, his power point slides (or should I say the book's power point slides) are not an effective way of teaching the class. He knows what he is talking about but all of his classes are generally in the evening, he turns the lights off and just teaches off powerpoint (which you don't have to copy because its on blackboard) So basically you go to sleep. I can't pay attention in that kind of atmosphere, so I just study for tests and do well. At least you don't really have any penalties for missing class though.

Good prof. If you do the homework and really understand it you will do fine in the class. A bit of studying is required for exams, but he is really generous with paritial credit and stuff. I would highly recomend taking mackie. He also counts your homeworks as 100 points which is an automatic grade booster(if you do it).

If you have to take an accounting course, Mackie is the prof you should take. Sure his classes are pretty boring, but as long as you do the homework, you will get an A in this class. His tests are really simple too. The problems from the test are just like the problems he assigns for homework. He is definitely the best accounting prof that i have encountered so far.

Mackie is a nice guy but he rambles and his thoughts get jumbled so most times he just ends up confusing you. I feel that math and accounting classes need to offer many examples in class on the board so that the class can work through them together and ask questions. He doesn't do that. He goes over 1 homework problem about every 2 weeks. The rest you are expected to do on your own which I don't mind doing but without doing any in class you have no idea if you are doing them correctly. I do not learn well in the "teach yourself" teaching style. I don't feel that college kids pay thousands of dollars in tuition to have to teach themselves the material. Doesn't take attendance. Easy homework points (as long as you turn something in you get full credit) 4 exams throughout the semester

I have no idea what all the positive comments are about. If you are reading this to find out whether or not to take Mackie for your Accounting class then I am suggesting you not take him. He is absolutely horrible. How are you supposed to learn accounting off of a powerpoint? You can hardly read his messy handwriting on the board and his tests are absolutely impossible. I had to w/draw from the class b/c I recieved a 43% on the test and the 2 kids sitting next to me got 16 and 25% and then he had the nerve to tell us that the class average was a 60% and he isnt' going to be curving it. What an asshole. Please if you want a good GPA and if you wanna actually learn accounting then I am begging you not to take this professor. BEWARE!!!!!

Ok first off it is an accounting class, so there is math involved. YOU CAN'T TEACH MATH BY READING OFF POWER POINT!! He strictly uses powerpoint and reads right from the slides. Does not show you examples of how to do the problems. When he does write on the board it is A MESS, you can't read his writing because it is so sloppy, and the notes are very disorganized. His tests are hard as poo. The multiple choice are IMPOSSIBLE. There are also problem based multiple choice questions that are 3 pts each, usually about 15 (on top of the 20 other MC from the book, which btw he doesn't even touch on in class). On top of all of this there are about 3-4 pages(on one test we had 9 pages total) of straight problems. He DOES tell you what sort of problems are going to be on the test. No matter how hard you prepare the test will always be a suprise. He rambles when he talks, and talks WAY TOO fast. I went to his office hours to go over my test to help me with it (like review the problems) but he basically told me I need to try harder (what do you think I am doing trying to suck?) and just told me what points he took away (well no crap I can see what points you took off). He does give out homework but it is an easy 50 points. As long as you turn in a paper he will give you the 5pts it is worth. Sometimes he doesn't collect it and gives the whole class 5 pts. No attendance. There are 4 quizes (all 5 or 10 MC questions). They were not too bad. He drops the lowest test score. I highly suggest taking another prof.

This was the most boring class i've ever had to sit through in my entire life. He doesn't make the class interesting at all or teach. All you do in class is look at power points the whole time and he doesn't believe in letting class out early. He loves to move on to a new topic with 5-10 minutes of class left and then assigns homework expecting you to know how to do it. He tells you topics that won't be on the test but u better study them anyway because they are. He says problems on the test are going to be just like the homework but once again...that is a lie. Sometimes they look nothing like the problems for homework and his multiple choice questions are just rediculous. If you take him for a class.....DROP IT!

First off if you prefer to look at an old man's chest hair all day take this guy he looks like he just got off the strip of south beach whenever it gets warm outside. However, Mackie's class is very boring and he does take attendee. You look at power points non stop. He talks about his wifeís business which clearly she will not let him participate in because he doesnít really know what is going on. His tests are fairly straightforward but he can throw some tricks in there. There is one project that isn't too hard but it is time consuming. There are plenty of other good acc. teachers out there... donít make this guy your first choice. Oh.. and you dont learn anything.
