I didn't read any of the pages in the text he assigned. Every Wednesday he has a quiz, but he gives you the question before the quiz. His classes are super boring, you don't have to study your notes. His exams are even easier than his study guides. He's a great professor and he is willing to help you with anything. Plus he offers a ton of extra credit

Its a very easy class, and you still learn stuff...unlike most really easy professors. Quizzes are just essays, 12 of them but 2 count as bonus points. Just do the assigned readings and you should be golden. Don't bother reading the Envisioning Women History book...or buying it for that matter. Most of it is just redundant from what the big textbook readings and the lectures tell you. Skim it maybe though before quizzes or tests. If you read the primary documents and the textbook, the exams and quizzes should be easy as hell. If you end up doing bad on the quizzes or exams, just do all the extra credit stuff. He gives a ton weekly! Mondays were group work, Wednesdays were tests, and Fridays were movies. Each day also had a bit of lecturing as well in them. He is sincerely a very nice guy. He can be funny at times, but he won't have you laughing your ass off or anything. Seriously TAKE HIM! Hes definitely in the top 10 of professors at Ship.

Ok so when I first took HIS105 I will admit he seemed really dorky. However he is incredibly nice and polite and a genuinely nice person. As a prof he is amazing too. At the beginning of the semester your participation grade is 70% but participate in class and you'll earn the last 30 points which isn't hard to do. There's also bonus assignments each week due on Friday to raise your participation grade and you can do group classroom presentations and get 6 extra points for participation. Obviously a huge part of the class grade is participation. I finished with a 106/100 and I just participated in class often and didn't do the extra work. As for the books, you don't use the large textbook until your final but you will need it if you want to do well. You also have a quiz every Wednesday but they're way easy. You have 12 quizzes and he drops the lowest two and adds those scores back as extra credit! So you need to average an 8.5 to get over 100% on those. It's practically impossible to fail just participate in discussion and you'll enjoy the class. He's very nice and enjoys when you ask questions when you don't understand a document or something. Just take him, you won't regret it.

Dr. Bloom does absolutely everything he can to help students understand the material by using every teaching technique there is. He does group work, optional projects, optional papers, weekly quizzes of the type you can reason through any opinion, lecture, whatever! You name it, he does it! He gives every student the opportunity to excel in this way. He is always available if you need him and will answer every email as quickly as possible. It's impossible not to do well in there because he cares so much and wants to help in any possible way! He gives so many chances for extra participation points and he even gives quiz bonus. You would be dumb to not take his class! I wish I could take more classes with him. I would take every one possible. He's funny and really tries to incorporate everyone's thoughts in class. He's absolutely great! TAKE HIM FOR EVERY CLASS YOU CAN!!

Here we go, I want to tell about my experience with Mr Bloom. He was by far the best teacher I have ever had. I transferred in from H.A.C. and spent one year at ship. His class lectures were not that boring like some students feel, and I loved how he gave out unlimited extra credit points. You start the semester off with 70 extra credit points, and he gives students chance to sign up and do a skit about history. It could be 5 mins and a script of characters, you get 10 points on top of the 70 which = 80. He does 4/5 of there, so thats chance to earn 50 extra point right there, and you can write one page response paper on history article = 1 point. I did 10 articles. I had a grand total of 193 extra credit points out of 500 points total for the course. If you answer critical thinking questions, he gives you 1 point in the class, if you ask him a critical thinking question in relation to what you're learning you get 1 extra participation point. You write 1 paper, and have 2 tests. Again, YOU CAN HAVE UNLIMITED PARTICIPATION POINTS. I EARNED 193 in the class and only got c on my two tests.... GET MY DRIFT!!!

Basically the class looks like this: monday-lecture from powerpoint and blooms cheesy comments, wednesday-10 point quiz from reading and discussion, friday- movie. There are 2 exams which are pretty much just 2 short essays. Very very very easy class. And he is such a silly guy. I recommend him bigtime.

Dr Bloom's class is very simple if you read the text book. His class consists of a weekly quiz from the reading in the text, three papers, a midterm, and a final. The midterm and final are essays and are somewhat difficult if you do not study. He also gives out a lot of extra credit. I am taking his class again for world history II.

History is definitely not my subject but Bloom was pretty easy. You take a quiz every week and write three easy papers. Lots of opportunities for participation points to boost your grade. One midterm and one final that aren't hard at all. The only negative comment that I have is that his class was extremely boring.

Dr. Bloom may be a little dry at times, but I would not have taken anyone else after I had him first semester. He is very straightforward with assignments, and you know from day one what is expected of you. His syllabus is very clear-he is not one for surprise quizzes or anything. Reading the textbook is not a necessity, I only picked it up for the midterm and final. There are ten or so quizzes and three 2-3 page papers throughout the semester, and his midterm and final consist of two fifty point essays. That may sound terrible, but he gives you five essays a week before the exam and chooses two for it so you have the information. You can easily prepare beforehand. He grades writing pretty fairly and easily as long as you know the major information he does not tend to be extremely picky with detail. I would definitely take him again.

This prof is def. someone I would take again. Yes, his lectures are boring, and yes, he spends a lot of time talking about Jewish people in history, but he practically spoon feeds you the course. I bought both books, which I shouldn't have done because I never opened them. His lectures can be printed out via powerpoint online- study them and participate in one or two "Classroom events," (which are 6 points each toward participation) and you've got an A. He starts you out with 30/40 participation points, and gives you PLENTY of opportunities to earn 40+ points- you can earn as many as you'd like thru various events. I'd say if you want an easy class with a great prof, and still want to learn- Bloom's your man.

Bloom is an all around easy-going guy. I learned so many things in his class and if you just study the powerpoints and show up for the quizzes you should do fine. quizzes are only 20 points each and you have to write 3 papers total. EASY GRADES! He offers a lot of extra credit and the mid-term was a breeze. Yes, sometimes his lectures are boring; but what professor isn't? This is a great professor to take for history!!!!

I was amazed how easy this class was. Throughout most of the course I read every chapter thouroughly, but the last three I barely skimmed. I still ended up with an A. I'm glad to see that so many other people have given him positive comments. His only downfall is that he seems to focus on the Jews in history a little too much because he is himself Jewish. I am not antisemetic, but it was just a little annoying.

Professor Bloom is awesome. His quizzes are so easy b/c he takes the questions from the powerpoints. The slides are online so studying is easy. The midterm is hard but he gives you the essays a week in advance so you can work on them. The paper is the only big thing in his class to do. Bloom also offers extra credit articles to read and write up summaries for. I wish I could have him for World History 2. He is a great "starting out" professor.

Yes, his classes may be alittle boring, and he may tell jokes that arent really funny, but he is a good guy. He grades really easily, I totally made up my term paper topic and got a B. His mid term and finals- he gives you the questions ahead of time and you just have to study them and he picks 2 of the 5 he gave you for the test. You have a quiz every friday, but they only help your grade. Alot of people say that you need to read to pass this class. I opened my text book twice. Once when studying for the midterm and once for the final. Oh, and for the midterm and final, study group, study group, study group. How we did it was we had about 8-10 people in our group, and we each took a question and answered it and emailed it to everyone. It was really effective, just make sure that you trust everyone in your group to do their work. I say take him if you can stand bad jokes and boring classes. He is effective and a great guy.

Prof Bloom is a great prof. He prepares you for his exams and quizes by completely explaining the material he intends to include on the exam or quiz. They tend to be mostly essay which aren't terribly hard to do well on. When he grades your papers he trys to look at what you are saying from all points of view, which in turn gets you a better grade. I have taken him in the past for two classes and intend to take him as much as I can in the future.

Dr. Bloom is a very friendly and outgoing man who laughs a lot. He encourages participation and gives points if you merely ask questions (even stupid ones). His quizzes are right from the notes and readings, so if you study just a little bit, you should do well. His two tests (midterm and final) are a quiz combined with two essay questions. He gives you a list of five possible essay questions well in advance of the test, allowing you plenty of time to study. He is a lenient grader and is always willing to help you understand the material. He also shows interesting videos in class.

Prof. Bloom is great. He makes the class as easy as he can for his students. You have two papers to write and there are quizzes at the end of every week about the readings. His tests are 95% essay, but he gives you the questions ahead of time so you will only do poorly if you are lazy and don't study them. The class is boring at times, you will watch a lot of videos, but it is pretty easy over all and Prof. Bloom is a super nice guy. I would say to take him if you can.

Dr. Bloom is new this year and he made a good effort to connect with the class. He is overly "student friendly" by providing a good syllabus, advanced topics for the exams, and plenty of time for two short papers. In short, history can be dry for those not interested, but if you apply yourself there's not doubt you will get a B and probably, with decent effort, an A. He gives 6 quizzes, but that just helps your average. He could very easily kill you with names and dates, but he doesn't do that...he's instead interested in teaching concepts that you can hang on to...has a sense of humor, also. If you don't do well in his class, it's probably more an indication that you are an idiot rather than his being a poor instructor. Take him.

Prof Bloom is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. His class put me to sleep half the time, but I was lucky I did ok because he gave out the exam questions. Plus, his monotonous voice and habit of saying one thing and writing another and his constant misspellings are enough to drive you up a wall. If you have to take a history class and have a choice of teachers, use him as a last option.

He gives you trick questions on quizzes and then laughs at you when u get the question wrong. He is really boring and during class he reads off of a paper the entire time. He will be in the middle of a sentence, just stop, and then go onto a different topic without finishing what he had started talking about. Every other word out of his mouth is um or uh or um um uh. He writes on the board and you can't read his writing. And he doesn't respond to emails. He has 45 mins of office hours three times a week and you can't contact him to get other office hours because he does not respond to emails or anything. His tests every week are more of a pain in the butt than anything. For the midterm i got the same grade on the essay that I knew nothing about as I did on the essay that I knew inside and out. He does not give extra credit opportunities. He gives you opportunities to get participation points but to get participation points you have to present your speech to the class and you only get 1 point for it. The questions he asks the class never make any sense. If you dont have to take him i suggest not taking him. I had to teach myself everything for this class and I did not skip it once.

Bloom is a nice guy and tries very hard, but every class is straight notes and taking them and he shows movies every now and then, I rarely went to class but his attendance sheet made it so I could just check off the days I missed so I didn't get credited haha. He has this thing about participation so when he has those special days where you can earn them do it! It can boost your grade so much. His tests were a bit hard and his quizzes you just need to study the notes really well to do good. The papers were pretty easy. I did about 2.

I hated going to this class and it was definitely a total waste of my time to do so. All of his notes are on Blackboard but don't bother printing them out because you won't need them for anything. You take weekly quizzes via Blackboard that you'll need to make sure you read the Chapter to do well on in the time limit of 15 minutes. You also have 3 primary document papers to write. Every week there's an article to read on Blackboard and you have to pick 3 out of the entire semester to write about a one page paper on. They're really easy - just make sure you cite the document itself because he'll take points off if you don't. You also have a midterm and final. He gives you 5 essay questions a week before to prepare your answers to, then he'll pick 2 of them to actually test you on. So basically, you don't even need to attend the class to get any information (the quizzes come from the book, the tests come from the questions he gives you, and the papers are from documents on Blackboard) but he takes daily attendance and you get penalized after missing a certain number of classes. He also does participation points. He starts you out with 65 out of 90 points and each time you participate is 1 point. So the only reason to ever go to class is to get your attendance and participation points. So basically you're forced to go and sit there to be bored out of your mind and fall asleep. His class isn't hard, it's just a waste of time and really, really boring.

Bloom was generally boring, but his exams are relatively easy if you can write an essay. He gives you his possibilities a week before and then picks twoish. It's not bad at all.

His class is boring at times especially when you watch movies. His tests are ok and so are his quizes. He is a good teacher but he really asks the class on certain things. I had him for a night class and there were some older people in my class and he would turn to them and ask them if he was right in saying what he just said. You have 2 papers to write but he grades them pretty easy as well as the essays on the tests. Go to class and semi pay attention and you will do ok. I would say not to take him unless he is the last professor to take.
