She is such a good teacher. Very nice and helpful. Will stay after class and even longer if you need help. She will help you understand something if you need help. Great with her office hours. Test are hard but she gives you worksheets with what you need to know which helps a lot and most of the time the questions are from your worksheets. Really enjoyed this class. TAKE HER!!!!!!!

I had Professor Carey over the summer, and even with the fast paced class I found her easy to understand. The examples, videos, and notes she presents in class make it easier for you, just make sure you review the section of the book she asks before class and you will be able to follow right along with what shes talking about. Before every exam she will give you a review of what will be on it. Group project really helps your grade if you know how to make powerpoints. (I even had a member not do a single thing) she grades the group work individually. Great Prof!

Dr. Carey is a very nice woman. For her tests you get a study sheet and the possible essays, there are no surprises. Read the book because stuff on the tests does come from the book. If you go over the study sheet and make sure you know those terms you will do well.

Prof Carey is a very nice person. She genuinely cares about her students and is very personable. She made the class pretty interesting. The tests were a bit long and very thorough but not difficult if you take the time to study. There is a good bit of work to do but it is not too difficult.

Dr. Carey's classes are interesting and informative. She gives notes that are easy to understand and also very helpful for studying or writing a paper. She speaks from experience, and really knows her stuff! She doesn't lecture that often, but rather asks for class input and there is almost always a class discussion. Definitely take Dr. Carey if you can.

What a great class! I had her right after having WHII and she woke me right up, her lectures are very interesting and she doesn't just stand up in front of the class. As long as you go to class you''ll get an A. She gives you exactly what they essay is going to be and you get to pick your own grading system!?! So if you're not good at taking tests choose her one with attendance/partic. and it''ll work out. By the way, I didn't think I was good at taking tests but her tests are cake. Go to her review sessions they help out so much!

Every prof tells you that you NEED their book. This is not true for Prof. Carey. Never bought the book and got a B or better on every test.
A couple things you need to know if you don't buy the book:
Her tests WILL have stuff from the book.
But I always searched the stuff on google and got answers.
Don't expect to not show up to class and get an A.
As long as you copy or print out all of her notes, and read the reserves then you should be fine.
And finally, if you dont have an answer to something major, go to her review session for like 10 mins and get the answer.
10 mins of your time can make the difference between passing and failing a test.

Allison is a great prof, and she loves what she does. She is always there for you... through email, office hrs, or even over the phone... she always bends over backwards for you!! There are alot of papers but its not that bad, bc she'll help you through them and she can correct them before they are due so you know what you need to change to get a better grade.

Dr. Carey was an excellent professor and was there to help me any time I needed it. Her tests come with a study guide that has everything you need for it, you just need to look up definitions and such. This was the first class I was able to stay awake the entire time in!

She is a really passionate lady about teaching. You don't have to read the book. I suggest skipping definitions throughout the assigned reading. She puts all her notes on Blackboard, which is sweet, but I suggest adding to them what she says or writes on the board. 2 Tests and a Final. 1 Paper that is 5 pages long. Not bad at all. It's not hard, but it's not extremely easy either. Just pay attention and go to class!

This clas is a joke. I dont know if its just Sociology all together or if it was just her class but pretty much everything you learn in there is common sense. Her test arent hard and she gives you a study guide for them. She does require a couple homeworks which I did 15 minutes before class. There is one sociological paper you must write on which she grades relatively easy as long as you put in effort. Her class is not that hard, and she gives you extra credit for watching movies and doing a one page summary. I would maybe take her again.

Dr. Allison Carey is a wonderful teacher. The work load is not an insane amount, and her lectures are not boring. She gets the class involved, and as long as you do the readings you will be fine. Before every test she gives you a review sheet, and two essay questions. She picks one essay questions for the test but you cannot get any easier then that. She is a very understanding professor, just e-mail her.

Dr. Carey is one of the nicest, most efficient professors out there. She knows that some of the material she teaches gets kinda boring, and she tries her best to make sure you have an easy way of understanding it. You can tell that she really cares about educating her students. She is incredibly smart and really knows her stuff. If you are the type of person who enjoys learning things in your classes that will open your eyes to problems, ideas, and ways of approaching subjects you never thought of, then take Dr. Carey. You won't be disappointed.

This lady is so nice and always available if you need help! There are 3 tests which are all pretty easy if you just do the review sheets. There are also a few easy homework assignments and one paper assignment which is also fairly easy. She makes class interesting and you actually learn from her. Take her if you can!!!

Prof Carey is a really nice lady -- don't really care for her topic of teaching. She puts lecture notes on blackboard. Studyguides do not help with the tests - her tests are hard. Overall - she is nice.

It was very interesting. Dr carey is a really nice lady, understanding and flexible. Used powerpoint but by the end of the semester mostly lectured. Assigned about 4 books to read, reserve readings, and took only a final and midterm..both take-home. They were very easy if you read the books and used notes from class and reserves. Only downfall....occassional groupwork

Dr. Carey is a great professor who is very effective in teaching sociology (whether or not you're interested) She uses powerpoint for most lectures and shows very good movies. Her tests are pretty hefty with MC, Short Answer, and an Essay, so be sure to read and study, and then everything else comes as a breeze. Definetly take her - shes great!

This class was pointless. She teaches nothing but how men are horrible and how women must stand up. Bullsh*t class. Not one of the sharpest stones, either. Thinks that everything she says is so funny. Avoid her if possible.

She is the kind of woman who does everything by the book. She probably sucks at driving too. Regardless, her class was somewhat interesting, and there was a lot of debate in it which was cool. Only about 10% of the class talked regularly, which was gay, but I was one of those 10%. That played obviously no factor in her final grading, as I ended up with an 89.4 and she wouldnt round me up to an A-. Thats cool, I tried to help you out and keep your class rolling, and you shaft me on .6 points? I needed an A on my final project to get an A in the class. I got an A on my final project. Too bad an A is only a 19/20 in her book, and since the university doesnt USE A+'s, its impossible to get a 20/20 on your project. Leaving me with an 89.4 instead of a 90.4. She was a good teacher, sure, but seriously, give the kids that actually work in your class some credit where credit is due, my god.

Don't get me wrong...Dr. Carey is a nice enough person...but I won't take her again. She has a really relaxed attendance policy, which is nice. There weren't any tests, also nice. However, if you don't like writing papers, don't take her. The worst part was that she included group work for the biggest percentage of the course grade. If you're stuck with a slacker, you are screwed. She wasn't particularly effective in teaching the class. She never tested us on the material, and some people skipped about every class and still passed. It made some of us feel like we didn't have to do any work to prove ourselves. Take that how you want...if you like that kind of a course, go for it. She *is* such a nice person, though!
