Subject: Should be a full time Prof  (Dec 26 2005, 01:43PM)

Professor Orr was the best professor I've had in the science department at Ship. He is very knowledgable about his subject content and presents it in an organized and intersting fashion. Even if you don't really like chemistry, he ties everything you learn into some aspect of your life that you can identify with. You do not need to buy the book, I didn't use it once. There is optinal homework for extra credit but I didn't do it and still pulled off a decent grade. There is no attendance policy but after missing only one of his classes I felt really far behind and didn't want to miss anymore. One pop quiz, the rest announced, all on notes taken in class. My only criticism is the note taking. You will be taking notes during most classes all class long and he lectures while you're doing so. Sometimes I felt like I was missing something because I couldn't give him my full attention but usually if I read through the notes again I could decipher it for myself. Take him, this next semester is his last.

This class could not have been any easier. Orr gives you all the notes on the overhead and tests come straight from the notes. I felt like he sort of taught at a high school level, but for a gen ed that's awesome. There is homework, but you don't have to do it. However, you do get a lot of extra credit for doing it and its not hard. Orr is a super nice guy and he made the class interesting. I hate chemistry but most of the material in this class had to do with everyday life, which makes it at least somewhat interesting. I definitely recommend taking Orr for an easy gen ed.

Subject: Best Chem teacher I ever had!  (Dec 07 2005, 02:22AM)

Let me just say that I hate Chemistry I always have and I probably always will. This is the first Chemistry class in which I've gotten higher than a C. I thought that he was very effective. He has the tendency to crack jokes to make the class more interesting also he does examples that relate more to us. The thing is that you need to study and I recommend doing the homework problems he makes his quizzes from them and he normally has some on the exam. He is also there any time that you need help and he doesn't make you feel stupid for asking questions. So he is very approachable. I would recommend him to anyone.

His teaching style is very effective, he teaches off of an overhead while following the book, but not to the point where he just regurges from the book. I enjoyed his antics in class. He was a very interesing man. I had alot of fun in his class and he made a science course alot easier to understand. He gave alot of extra credit for people to help their grades out. I highly recommend this Prof.

Professor Orr has a very effective way of presenting the information. He uses the overhead to present his notes then explains them to you thoroughly. He also brings in some visual aids to help with understanding molecules. I feel he does a good job at teaching chemistry.

Mr. Orr was an amazing professor who was so laid back. Material was tough at times, but his notes, given on the overhead were really easy to understand. Doesn't take attendance, which is great, but class attendance is important to get a good grade. Gives questions out for each chap., but they're for extra credit only! Don't buy the book unless you want to do the ex. credit questions--that's all it's used for. Overall, one of the best professor's I've had at Ship.

Professor Orr had a rather distinct way of teaching at times, but he was not a difficult teacher to learn from. GO TO CLASS. Pay attention while you are there. This prof. has worked in the field. You might learn something interesting or unusual. Then again, you also might just pass the tests.
