Prof. Sipes is an amazing teacher. You learn so much in her class about writing properly. She is very easy to get along with, and she explains everything. If you have a problem, she does everything she can to help you. I loved her class and only missed 1 class! With the Prof. Exam make sure you ask questions and really do the assignments, it helps!!

Professor Sipes is SO SO nice. This class is my most enjoyable because she actually takes some time to talk with the class about your weekend, whats going on in the world, or a funny story she wants to share. She's always smiling, and hoping for everyone to do well. She's a positive teacher, and her good attitude can't help but be caught by all of the students. She may not know the answer to every question you have, which does pose a problem, but she is always willing to help you look it up :) haha I know how that sounds..but she really does want everyone to succeed. ALWAYS ALWAYS do the homework, it really counts for a lot of your grade. If you study for the proficiency exam, you will pass. I studied for probably 5 hours total over the course of the two day exam. But it's cake if you know what you're doing. Take her!!

Sipes is definitely a good teacher. I found her to be very nice and fun to talk to, especially if you like sports. It is cool to talk to a girl about that. I think most people just didn't do well in the class so they don't like her. The proficiency exam is tough..good luck on that.. other than that, the class is cake.

Professor Sipes is a very nice woman who makes herself available for students. You can tell that she wants everyone to succeed, and she helps guide "Senior Capstone" students during their final few months at SHIP. Her portion of the class involves a lot of speakers with messages that don't always pertain to everyone, but there is usually something influential that can be taken away from each guest.

Okay so first off, I'll explain to you that I'm just your avg. student.. this whole forum forgets that some students are very smart and may think that a hard class is easy when its actually not... So I'll let you know that like I said, I'm just an avg. student that does what I need to get by. So to rate this class.. I'll just tell you that this is one of the few A's I've recieved in college so far, and I'm a JR. To be honest, this class is not bad at all. Sipes is a very nice professor, and being that she is not that much older than us, she understands where we're coming from. Everyone bitches about the amount of work, but honestly we are in college to do something, so get over it. You do alot of busy work, but you get it done in like 20 mins. Tests are somewhat tricky , but I managed to always get at least a B+ on them. The final paper needs to be like 7-10 pages long, and she doesnt give you much time to finish it, but if you sit down and do it all at once it will take you a few hours, and if you put effort into it, you'll get an A on it. I'm just tired of the bitching on here about actually having to do work in this class, and due to this everyone cries about it. Get over it guys. I would take Prof. Sipes again if I had the chance..

First off I don't know how the heck I got a B in the class, I don't remember missing hardly anything. [] There were numerous times when she didn't know the answer to what I thought would be an elementary question for her field. Assignments were extremely easy and she was VERY leniant on late papers. I heard some students approach her and hand in papers that were over two weeks late with no penalty. She's very nice, but just not very informed for her field. If you want an easy class take her...but if you want to learn something then don't. Overall she was great though.

Prof Sipes was alot of fun in class. We led the discussion as opposed to her just talking at us. She lectured from the book too much, but all in all her class was VERY easy.

Not really as bad as people are saying. I liked her and did very well in her class. Yes this is an intro class and there is a lot of work, but suck it up people u are in college. Everyone excepts all their classes to be easy and then complains when they are not. I do agree she has some faults but it's not that bad of a class. She is nice and always wanting to help. If u aren't a hard worker don't take her class. One negative thing is she is very unorgainzed and spacey sometimes. Overall ok

Going into capstone I was bummed that Prof. Carlin wasn't teaching it. I didn't know too much about Sipes so I figured I'd give her a chance. After two months of her I can say that its two months of my life I can't get back. Her section of the class is totally pointless! She tells us to bring things like our cover letter and etc to class and we don't even go over it! If you're not going to look over something why tell us to do it? Its pointless that's why. Another thing... she contradicts herself a lot. She told us that our job analysis paper didn't need to be lengthy but then told us that if it wasn't seven pages long we would get a "F". WTF is wrong with this lady? [] May can not get here soon enough. Pray that Carlin is doing it when you're a senior.

Now don't get me wrong, Sipes is a cool Professor, real laid back and nice...But, for the love of God, she CANNOT teach. My English skills are bleh, I can recognize errors but my writing is not as awesome as I would like it to be. I was hoping this class would lend me some improvement skills... WRONG! Sipes "teaches" by going over homework and reading out of the book. God forbid you ask her a question; her response will be 'well I don't have the book in front of me, so I can't tell you.' She's still working on her PhD so you might get some days off...If you want to LEARN something don't take Sipes, get Garris or Witmer.

There are so many things to say I'm not sure where to start. Sipes was the worst possible selection to teach capstone in the fall of '04. She was not ready to teach a class that important to c/j majors. Instead of talking about how to make a cover letter, we made freakin collages about where we wanted to be in 10 years. She gave us so much busy work that we didn't have time for, but never told us the due dates, and then wondered why they were late. She was supposed to teach us how to make our portfolios, but never brought in examples, and no idea what the f*** she was talking about. She's not even a c/j person, she's speech comm., and I didn't think she taught me anything. As a person, she was great, but a horrendous professor for capstone. I feel bad for future seniors who are stuck with her. Prepare to learn jack sh*t

She KIND OF knows what she's talking about, and her classes are boring. The class is designed to teach you how to write for AP style, and the majority of the semester is spent in text books. We didn't start to write till 3 weeks before the end of the semester. Her classes are always boring and so is she.

Sipes-I love her and I hate her. She is the nicest lady-really young, really cool about a lot of things. However, I don't think she knows how to teach a college level class-you copy down notes the WHOLE time and then the tests have nothing to do with them. I was always a straight A student and this class kicked my butt. I studied for HOURS and still got C's on the tests. She isn't experienced in the field and I wouldn't recommend her. I feel bad though because she's so nice..sorry Sipes :(

Well, to give her SOME credit, she is very nice, but her class is just too much. You sit there and copy from power point for a majority of the class, which she doesn't even teach, just reads. You have all this information you're expected to know and the tests are really hard. You have to read this horrible book that makes no sense and is so incredibly boring, and she knows it, but she just continues to make her classes read it. Her class is definitely a challenge.

Okay... She's a really nice lady, and sometimes almost comes off as childish but her class is ridiculous. The entire class is taking notes off power points, and the power points aren't even hers sometimes. Besides the power points, she makes you read a really boring book, and write like 2 big papers, and you have to hand in a reaction paper every week. So, I'd advise you not to take this Professor unless you have to!!!

Really hard tests. She doesn't really know what she is talking about. Classes are soooo boring and the presentation is not readable. She has a nice personality but it is hidden beneath her attempts to rule the classroom. She really isn't very smart. Don't take this class unless you have to.

Sipes is a good person, really she is, but her class is not good! We spend most of the time just copying notes from power point, and she really doesn't teach anything, just reads her notes to us. The tests, pretty much everyone fails due to the extensive amount of information that we have to know, and didn't actually learn.

Sipes is a really nice teacher. She is understanding and approachable. I just hated that we didn't write very much. And I felt that when we were given an actual writing assignment, she didn't really read over it, she just made sure it was done. I am not used to going to a big school so maybe that's how all profs are. I prefer that my work is critiqued. I do want to become a better writer. Overall, she's cool, but I don't think I'd sign up for another course with her.

Sipes expects waaaay too much from you. From day one it was writing paper after paper. You'd think that the papers would could for more than they do. Her tests are super hard and worded badly. She is a very nice person and is easy to get a hold of but she gives you a crazy amount of work that isn't worth very much towards your grade.
