This guy in my opinion is a good prof. I bombed the first test in the 50's and still ended up with a B. He puts his notes on blackboard so just print them off and take a couple extra notes that are not on the slide. The plus side to this guy is that he can actually be funny sometimes. I would recommend him to anyone.

What's with all the negative comments about this guy? I went to essentially every single class hungover, took an exam borderline still-drunk, and got an A for the class. Take good notes, skim the chapters, and study for an hour or two before the exams (which, admittedly, can be hard--STUDY the court cases). But what do you want? You'll take gen-eds with *way* more work than this guy will give you. (He's kinda funny sometimes, too. Class isn't a chore to sit through.)

College is about work. The people who complained about Professor Wiltse obviously didn't get that memo. You DO have to take notes, and you DO have to study. I doubt many of us have professors who hand out the answers prior to the test, so what do you expect? I enjoyed this class and I got a lot out of it, because I cared to. Politics is not a personal interest, but I found the class to keep my attention. Professor Wiltse is informative and really knows the material well. He can be sarcastic, which I personally appreciated, but I never thought him to be "pissy" or "mad" during class. I would recommend Professor Wiltse for anyone who is willing to do more than sleep through class. There ARE notes, but if you make additional notes about his comments and explanations during class and use his study guides to review these materials, the tests are NOT that difficult. He offers extra credit questions on each test, which helps, and he didn't make my class write any useless papers. This class was worth the effort.

Let's face it. The profs in the political science department ALL suck. I just finished retaking this class (which I got a D in last time with Frazier) but this time finishing with a B. Wiltse is a good guy to take. He has a good sense of humor that is somewhat sarcastic, but it is never made at students' expense. Classes are less than glamorous; just copying down notes from transparencies. However, he does give you ample preparation for tests (which are moderately difficult). If you're looking to survive a politics class for your gen-ed, this is the guy to take.

Though this class, I felt, was rather difficult and required effort, I gainged a lot of knowledge from it. The class was interesting and Prof. Wiltse does a wonderful job of explaining information and putting an entertaining twist on boring subjects. The tests are very challenging but as long as you prepare by knowing the review sheet you should do fine. He is very fair and tries to help his students in any way he can. He is only for a short time, I am very glad I got to take his class I learned a great deal. I highly encourage everyone to take this professor while he is still around.

I really enjoyed Mr. Wiltse's class. It went far beyond any civics class I had in high school. He uses an overhead for lectures and he usually relates some kind of personal experience to the subject matter which helps to keep it interesting. There were two tests and final. The tests were a little difficult but I got high C's on them by just going to class and studying a little bit. We had one writing assignment and no real work outside of class other than that. He threatened us with quizes because no one seemed to have ever read the material but he never gave them to us which was cool. Overall Mr. Wiltse is a pretty fun teacher.

Wiltse is one of my favorite profs here at ship. He isnt afraid to say anything or have his opinions. He is a funny guy who makes this not so interesting class entertaining. The class itself wasnt too easy but i cant imagine it being better with any other teacher.

Okay, so Prof. Wiltse is new this semester, so I thought I'd post something during scheduling time. I don't have a grade yet, but I'm getting a low A at the moment. I really like him a lot. You have to study for him, but I learn so much just by going to class and listening to him. He also gives extra credit opportunities to get up to 10% added on to your FINAL grade. It definitely is worth it. All you have to do is go to 2 activities. While the one test we've had was a bit tough, I thought it was fair. Just make sure you listen in class and take good notes and you'll do fine. Also, he's more than willing to help you if you need it! I'd take him again in a heartbeat!

Okay, I don't know what previous people are talking about, but there is no longer extra credit offered in his classes and there is no longer a paper! IT'S FREAKIN DIFFICULT TO GET A DECENT GRADE!! The only grades you will have are 3 tests and a final...which I must add are all extremely difficult!! The study guide you are given does not help and there are questions on the tests that are not even on the study guide!!! All you do is sit and listen to a lecture in which you're copying 6-8 pages of notes so your hand feels broken!! DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! He is an okay guy, but his class is the worst!! YOUR GPA WILL DROP!!!

Unless you're really into this kinda stuff.. I wouldn't take him. You only have 3 exams but covers so much information and at least half the class always fails. He doesnt give extra credit unless its some stupid random question on the exam and theres no other ways to boost your grade. Overall hes a really cool guy.. But he's hard.

Prof. Wiltse comes to class everyday and gets mad at anything. He lectures by overhead day after day...I'm a good note taker too...and he just did not make sense to me! Granted I have no real interest in the topics, but he did not even make me want to have an interest in it. He does know what he's talking about, he just doesn't know how to make his students know what he's talking about....The tests are hard, and I'm not saying that because I didn't study, because I did! He gives you a study guide, but half of the stuff on the test isn't on the test, and you don't know where it came from. Try to aviod, but if you can't I'm sure you'll survive...

I would not recommend taking Wiltse's class. When taking this course, I had no idea what the professor would be like. Every day we listened to him lecture and put things up on transparencies while we worked our fingers to death trying to copy them. Although he did warn us for the tests he gaves us long study guides and he wouldn't put half the information on the test. Yes, he could be funny at times but most of it was dull humor or only smart ass comments that he thought were funny. Avoid him if you can.

I took this prof 3 semesters ago and I cant believe he's still here. He is absolutely terrible. He is rude, doesn't want to talk to you unless you care as much about politics as he does, he asks completely unfair test quesitons so don't bother studying, and you have to write this 6-8 page paper on a court case which, even if you do a good job, he'll still give you no higher than a C on. He should be fired...there is no reason a gen ed should be this hard, or that you should have to deal with a professor who is this rude and inconsiderate of his students. you have been warned...

His personality is terrible. He walks into class and gets pissed off at the slightest thing. The class is boring as hell, overhead after overhead day after day. He assigns a paper that is way too involved for a general education class and then grades it like you're an English major. Try to avoid if possible!

His class is extremely dull. If you want a good nap take this class. Granted he does know his stuff but his tests are extremely difficult. He gives you a review sheet for the tests but all they are is a list of things to know and half of the test is not on the review sheet. You must go to his class all of the time because he takes attendance and will deduct points if you miss more than 3 classes. Only take him if you are in desperate need of this class and he is the last professor that is teaching it!

Ok first of all this "professor" teaches like a high school teacher. Using overheads and such and making us take notes the entire class. Study the notes read the book, easy right? Wrong, wait until he gives you the first test. Don't take notes they wont help, read the book? Yeah right read it over 3 times and you still wouldn't understand the test. He must draw the questoins from some part of the text that is totally irrelevant to the notes he gives or focuses on. Then he gives a 6-7 page report on a Supreme Court case. Hell, we can all write pretty well that will bring up the grade a bit; Wrong again the paper is worth 20 points and he grades as though it was a 300 English course, i am sittin here wondering why i even wasted my time completing the damn assignment. On top of it all he is late late late!! for class all the time. He is late late late for his office hours. Im not talking every once and a while, all the time. In short, if you dont have a firm grasp about Gov't and polotics stick to someone who will teach you and make your understand, cuz this guy here cares about one thing, the paycheck.

He is a really funny guy, the comments he makes in class sometimes make you really laugh. On the other hand, his tests are nearly impossible to pass. About 60 multiple choice, about 8 key terms and an essay. I struggled on them at first because its a boring topic anyway to me, but I got the hang of them. He takes attendance which counts, but the only grades in the class are the 3-4 tests, final and attendance.

Ok, I've taken a lot of boring classes in 4 years of college, but his class was probably the most boring EVER. Every lecture is the same - powerpoint, him droning on about stuff no one cares about, people asking ridiculously inane questions and everyone falling alseep. And of course attendance counts and his tests can be hard so you just have to keep coming. My advice: sit in the back so you can read or do other homework. Just make sure you get the notes from someone because you will definitely need them to study. Like I said, his tests can be hard, but I got an A in the class and I had failed it twice before with two other professors.

...While you're in class because of the power point. His notes are easy to take and he tries his best to relate what he talking about so that people can try to understand. But, the tests are tough. If you study your notes and memorize a lot of it you might get a decent grade, since half of the class will fail and the curve is crazy low. You would think that he would make the tests somewhat easier considering you have 3 tests then the final, and no other points. He's okay while he teaches, but watch out for those tests: They are killers!

Dr. Wiltse is new this semester, and he doesn't really know a lot about what goes on on campus. He does give 2 extra credit assignments to bring your grade up 10% at the end of the semester, but he doesn't really know when the programs are. His tests are also really hard and he only gave 3 tests and a paper so the tests are a big percentage of your grade. He gives a lot of notes and thats mostly what the tests are on, so it's hard to miss a class and still know what's going on. He tries to be funny but he is a little arrogant. I guess I would take him again if he was the only prof. available but I would try to take someone else!
