She is so nice and told us to call her by her first name the first day which was pretty welcoming. I read some other comments and they said stuff about 5 point quizzes, but she doesn't do that anymore. I have never had one at least. you do a group project which is really easy, 2 exams which are pretty easy too you just need to study a little bit. and don't look too deep into the questions.and you have 2 speeches that are a big part of your grade so really work on those. But she is really nice and answers all your questions. She assigns reading but I never did it and I still got an A

Doreen is a good professor. She knows what she's talking about and its pretty easy to get a good grade in her class. There are a lot of easy points.. and speeches aren't too terrible - just pick something that you can relate to and talk about and you will be fine. She tells you exactly what she wants and how you are graded.. she always gives out her rubric on how she's grading your presentations so you know what you need to work on. Her classes are extremely easy... I had a very talkative class and it ended up being really easy and fun. You can almost always talk her into a debate or something. One day we kinda begged her to let us have a free debate day or something cuz it was Friday! She let us! Every once in a while she's a little moody but for the most part.. she's very nice and an easy class to pass!! TAKE HER!

Her class is easy to pass. All you have to do is show up. There are little 5 point quizzes based on the reading each week but I never opened the book and still managed to get most of the points. It's common sense. Attendance is required. If you miss more than 6 classes you automatically fail but seriously, why would you want to skip such an easy class? Notes are all on power point. She does tend to get off subject really easily. She spent ten minutes looking up a comedian on youtube one class! But overall shes very nice and easy. Shes a very sweet lady.

She is really nice. Her class is kind of hard. You have a lot of points in her class. You have ten quizzes, each quiz is worth 10 points. The quizzes help your grade. You have a final. I would recommend taking her. You have to work for your grade.

Doreen is a fairly easy prof. If u come to class and prepare for the chapter quizzes u get an easy A or B. Speeches... it's good to cite sources... SHE LOVES THAT! It makes your speech sound like your information is credible. Come to class, pay attention and do really good on speeches and this gen ed will be a breeze!

Doreen is a very professional, very straight up teacher. She tells you exactly what you want and how to get it. There is no blindsiding with her. If you make sure to follow your syllabus, know when your quizzes are and really follow her speech guidelines, this is an enjoyable class. As a person, she seems a bit aloof at first, but is actually very easy to approach with any questions or concerns. I would HIGHLY recommend her for HCS 100, you could not ask for a better professor.

I took Baringer for Human Communications and it wasn't hard at all. All you have to do is read the chapters when you are assigned and you will pass the class. The quizzes are only five questions. She also gives a grading scale for every assignment, so if you do everything, you will get a good grade. She's a great teacher. Doesn't really assign homework. Homework is studying for your own test.

If you're willing to pay attention, come to class and do the assignments, Doreen - she asks you to call her that - is willing to give you the grade you deserve. In the beginning she tries to sound intimidating, but shes a nice lady. Only down side is when you ask her questions, she doesnt answer them very well, but if you pay attention, you shouldn't have any questions to begin with!

I really liked Doreen as a speech teacher. If you pay attention in her class and read the grading sheets on blackboard you can pretty much get A's and B's on your speeches. She's really nice, tough sometimes, but she just wants to see you improve. If you're nice to her, she's nice back. Her quizzes are just 3 questions to make sure you read the chapter and it's pretty much common sense stuff. I also heard she was the best speech teacher to get, I agree, it was a good class. Plus, she tries to get the class to interact with each other, so that's fun!

Doreen is a very nice prof. We only had 3 speeches and a group project. There were chapter quizzes, but again, very easy. I never read the book and still got a B in the class. One thing, don't read your speeches straight from your paper. She doesn't grade too kindly when it is obvious.

Doreen is friggin awesome! I never had any problem going to class. It was always interesting and went by pretty quick. The only reason that I got aB in the class is because I forgot my full-sentence outline for the biggest speech of the year. Make sure you follow her requirements!

At first she may seem like she is a strict, non-sensitive grader...but after the first speech you realize that she's not bad at all. She grades fairly leniently and we only had 2 speeches plus a group project. She gives quizzes every once in a while which are easy and MC. The class is fun at times and it is mandatory to go because after 3 absenses she starts taking points off. But overall, I recommend her.

This class wasn't really helpful if you want to know how to speak in front of people. You do one presentation (an informative speech) by yourself, a group project (which can suck if you don't like your group), and a NY Times speech that is with another person. You also have quizzes on chapters, which you can pass if you skim read. She also gives extra credit opportunities, which add points onto your final grade (it helps alot)! Overall, it wasn't that bad of a class, but be prepared for atleast 5 hours of community service!!!!

Doreen's class is pretty simple. You take a bunch of 10 point quizzes on some of the chapters (which you can usually get by with at least an 8 if you read the reviews at the end of the chapters) which helps your grade a lot. You only have to give two or three speeches, which is good. The biggest grades are a group speech and a film analysis paper. Doreen is a decent teacher: I had no problems with her during the semester. Sometimes she goes off topic, but that's not a huge issue. I highly recommend her BOC class.

Doreen is the greatest. She is very reasonable and very nice, and she tries to make the class easy for her students. You only have to do two speeches, one informative speech and one mini speech with a partner. And you have to do a group project too. She gives you ample time to complete your assignments and her quizzes/tests are very easy. She makes the class fun and there is a lot of class discussion along with cool little videos. If you take Doreen you will have an awesome BOC experience. She is great and the class is fun because of that.

Professor Baringer took me off guard at first because she wanted to be addressed by her first name. Her class revolves around participation. She ended our class early because she was angry that we all just gave her blank stares when she asked us questions. She gives quizzes on the book. There are only 2 major speeches, but she is a tough grader. She is also very scatter brained.

I busted my ass in this class and had perfect attendance and still got a C. Her speech assignments were very off topic and there were only 3 or 4 so if you did bad on one it was hard to bring up your grade. I had to do one speech explaining a problem and another speech explaining a policy to fix it. The whole class struggled with it and she generally gives dumb assignments like that.

She's the worst teacher I've had so far in college. She makes you do a project where you have to do 5 hours of community service, which is completely unnecessary. The quizzes she gives you each week are confusing and sometimes the right answer isn't what it says in the book. When she grades speeches, she grades so hard, she also grades other peoples papers while you're giving your speech, so she doesn't even pay attention to you. She is horrible, worst human comm. teacher you can get. STAY AWAY FROM HER!!!

She is a communications teacher but she doesnt know how to communicate w/her students and doesnt tell you exactly what she wants and then gives you an F! The most ineffective teacher ever and you have stupid mini quizzes every week which are pointless b/c no one reads that stupid book anyways so have fun in hell if you have her

"Doreen" (as she'll tell you to call her) starts out nice. She'll read you her syllabus, treat you like youre 5, and set you on your way. And thats about the last thing she explains to you. Yeah, so this is college, youre supposed to do sh*t on your own- BUT not when you don't even know what the hell the syllabus is talking about. She expects you to be able to look at the syllabus and say, "ok my policy speech is due next week, better start that," but she NEVER goes over ANYTHING. Just for a hint: she makes it sound like it doesn't matter if things are typed or not, but make sure EVERYTHING u hand in is typed because if not, she will hand it back, even a two sentence topic. She hardly pays attention during speeches, shes too busy critiquing the outline with a fine toothed comb. The outlines are supposed to be "5-6 pages or you probably didn't do it right. After the policy speech, which she grades like a witch, she claims her class gets more interesting. Well, "Doreen," nothing about your class was interesting, unless you count you referring to yourself in third person and your bad attitude. I would not take her again- unless she learns to treat people as an equal.

She is one of the most stuck up people I have ever met and probably the worst teacher I've had at ship yet. Somehow she expects you to know what when and where everything is due without telling you or giving you a warning. I will probably end up dropping my first class ever and I'm a junior. I promise I am not lying. []I wouldnt recommend taking her.

Doreen is very stuck up and full of herself. If you ask a question in class, she raises her nose at you and shoots it down. Don't plan on taking her if you just plan on writing a standard speech and giving it. Mine was pretty standard and I got a 54 on it. She takes all the points away from a certain category of the speech if it isn't impecable. Other than speeches, she gave easy 5 question quizes every once in awhile that if you read the book, you'll breeze through. If you don't read the book and have a lot of common sense, you'll breeze through. I withdrew after my first speech

Listen - she may seem nice from the get go. She'll ask you to call her Doreen rather than Prof Baringer. She'll be really nice and really cool during class. She'll tell you that you will enjoy the class. THEN, she'll fail to explain what and how you are to do your speeches. She will take points off for things that were never mentioned in class. She will do virtually all of the speech grading on the FULL-SENTENCE OUTLINE, and I'm not sure how much of the speech itself she really listens to. THEN, she'll sweet talk you again and tell you to come see her in her office and talk about your grade if you are dissatisfied or confused. Once you step into that office, however, you are fortunate if you leave with your head. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE, PLEASE.

These other people are crazy. It's still the middle of the semester but I couldn't wait until the end to rate her. Doreen acts like a psycho on a powertrip when grading these presentations. She takes off for things that are out of my control and impossible for me to predict. The last thing I need is to deal with Doreen at 8AM every other day. []

I have no idea what these other people are saying about her being nice, cause shes a bitch. I had her in the summer and I hated going to that class, because I could not stand her. Shes so anal about grading your speeches, you pretty much have to be Teddy Roosevelt to get an A. Granted the quizzes and tests are easy, its the speeches that will kill you. Pick someone else.
