He is pretty hard but was a good teacher to have to start college off and know what things ahead will be like. You have to study pretty hard for his tests and sometimes he will give you a study sheet. He does know his stuff about history and he hates Bush... you will be amused.

Professor Zimmerman will probably be the best professor I will ever have here at Ship. The man knew his stuff. He challenges you to analyze history, make connections, and understand themes about the time period rather than memorize facts. By no means was his class easy but it was very interesting and informative. He demands a lot from the student, but you will be rewarded if you work hard. I gained a lot of knowledge about the Cold War, Vietnam and how to use different approaches to teaching and evaluating students. He gets a bad rap on here, but if you really want to learn something about history rather than memorizing facts take him.

Prof. Zimmerman is an Ok guy, he is willing to answer any question no matter if it does take him off topic. This may occur but he does quickly get back on to topic. Basically if you do what is required which is read and look over your notes you get a good grade. Be prepared to read 10-20 pages before each class, as long as you can he is great.

This guy rocks! However, If you want a real easy class where you don't wanna work, don't take him. You'll do a fair amount of work, but He's fair in the way he grades and he's interesting in class...piece of advice... sit in the front.

Mr. Zimmerman made himself available outside the classroom, but you had to assert yourself. He wants his students to ask questions, but won't go out of his way to provide information. We had panel discussions, four exams, and three writing assignments. He takes attendance and did not offer extra credit. He tends to be unorganized in his lectures, which made notetaking difficult at times. If you pay attention, do what he wants, and attend class, you will succeed. Mr. Zimmerman knew his subject well and had too much info at times. History is not my thing, but I survived and he challenged my thinking.

Seriously, listen to all these negative comments. This guy is really hard, especially for a GEN ED. bad things to include: 1) very messy notes, hard to follow. 2) VERY hard tests 3) everyday of lecture he included about how he hated america and our government. Now personally, I do not like history.. it's not my thing. So being forced into this class to begin with, I did not want to sit there and listen to him complain about our wonderful country. So I shared my opinion as well... and it sure got him to notice me (maybe how I actually passed...) but we got into a few scuffles over it. In conclusion, he SUCKS! Unless you want to be challenged.. do not take him.

I tried so hard in his class, put more effort in it than I did anything else. He was too hard. I talked to history majors that were amazed by the level of difficulty. He would give the worst review sheets and often only a few days before the exam. I needed over a week to prepare for his exams, he does not take your effort into consideration. Also, if the class does collectively poorly on a quiz or assignment he does not curve. Point being if you struggle in his class it is your fault to him never his. And I have to say lecturing without notes or power points is the least effective way to go

If you have him be prepared to be confused. This teacher is disorganized and does not explain things well at all. The assignments were always vague, or there was room for confusion like calling paper 1 and 2 on one page and A and B on another. Be advised to stay clear of this teacher if you are someone who needs more guidance and structure. The notes he gives are mostly oral, and he never says what he wants out of the maps.

Ok. There's not much to be said that hasn't already been said but I'll add my 2 cents just because I feel the need to. Ever since day one in his class, I wanted to give up. I tried really hard to make sense of what he was saying, because I didn't want him to ruin my fascination with History, so when he did I got frustrated. The one good thing about him is that after class is over and he's gotten out all his personal feelings that we're supposed to nod our heads and agree with, he is actually decent to talk to one-on-one. He wants you to pass, I think, so if you ask for help you may get it. However, like most people have already said, he hates Bush and acts like he's the only one and we're dumb for not thinking so too, and leaves you feeling angry after his class. The last few weeks, I did give up. And I failed the class. I watched the clock every day, I found myself drifting off into daydreams, I doodled on my notebook when he ranted and raved about everything, I had no idea what he was talking about, I read the chapters and still failed the tests, I felt like I was wasting my time...I could go on and on. Even IF you agreed with anything he was ranting about, you probably still wouldn't like him because of the way he does it - he acts like he's better than us because he's standing up there yapping and we're sitting down listening. The group project was hard because you spent most of your time meeting outside of class trying to figure out how to take up the rest of 45 minutes without relying on video clips from Youtube. So I guess the reason I can say that I "hated" his class was because I'm the type of person where, if I strongly believe something and know that I feel right about it, I honestly don't feel the need to defend myself all the time. And that's exactly what he does - he gets himself started, and can't shut up. I dreaded every single day - it was boring as hell. Your ticket to passing is writing good papers, being prepared for pop quizzes (usually containing 2 questions worth a million points) sitting close to the front, and like you should do for any class - study hard. If you get stuck with him, you have my sympathy. But if you have a choice, try to avoid taking him. There. I'm done.

Professor Zimmerman is definitely the worst teacher I ever had. I didn't like history before having him and he made it even more miserable for me. We all have to take WHI to graduate, so I thought that it would not be a traumatic experience. Oh, I was wrong. First off, he lives 2 hours away with no computer and he only checks his emails when he's at Ship. If you email him, you will not hear from him for at least 2 days. Next we move on to the tests...oh the tests. I don't recall him saying anything in the class that actually was on any of the tests. Most of my class failed every exam. We also had to do a 45 minute presentation during class, which was a waste of time. Thankfully, I salvaged my grade with the 6 page paper and the presentation. Anyway, the moral of this story...don't take him!

Karl Zimmerman is the worst prof you could get for world history. He brags about his 2 masters degrees but I'm still trying to figure out what they are for because it certainly isnt history. Karl will ramble on for an entire class period about nothing related to the course. Over 50% of the class failed every test. He simply has no idea how to teach or communicate effectively. It doesn't surprise me though considering he was in the military and then worked in a factory (never had any teaching experience). Just do yourself a favor and do not schedule him. If you do get stuck with him though I would just chew on some rat poison or something because your life is gonna be hell.

Alright, so to start from the very beginning...Zimmerman complained about our economy and George W. Bush. He has no appreciation for anyone except for himself. He focuses on the war aspects of everything in History. He has no set outline for each class, he just likes to ramble about stupid things such as how much he despises Christmas, God, and George W. Bush. He is also a very hard grader and non-sympathetic towards anyone. Seriously, take anyone but this guy, he has no idea what's going on in the real world. He doesn't even own his own computer or cell phone, so he's impossible to get a hold when you need him!!

Zimmerman is a nice guy outside the classroom but inside, he is the WORST guy you will ever meet. You have to write a 6-8pg paper which over half the class failed, you have an hour presentation you have to do, and the tests are like impossible. He goes on random rants such as his wifes abortion, him driving 2 hours each way, his hatred towards bush and america, and soo many other things that are completly unecesary. STAY AWAY FROM HIM

Ok..so at first, this guy just seems like he's a little weird. But after about week in his class you come to find that he lives 2 hours away with no computer (making it nearly impossible to contact him when its not the day of your class) and whats more is he gets off on these tangents about women and their treatment and everything about them...little weird if you ask me.. I learned absolutely nothing from this man except the fact that he absolutely hates our president and our government sucks.

The class is hard in itself... I'm not a history major and like most of us we just have to get through history 1 and 2 for our gen eds. Zimmerman isn't a bad guy but he loves to talk about history and I never felt like I learned much in the class. He gives quizzes on the reading and he loves to ask what the thesis of the reading was. His tests are ridiculously hard. There's just no way to feel prepared for his tests. There is one book to read which isn't bad and one 6 page paper on a movie. I would suggest doing the rough draft because he will go over it and pretty much tell you everything you do wrong and as long as you make the changes he suggest you will get at least a B. There's also a group project that has to be 45 minutes long. Its time wasting and they are generally horrible to sit through and watch. If history is not your thing and youre simply taking this for a gen ed I would suggest talking someone easier.

He doesn't have an outline for class notes, he rambles on non stop about how bad America is then he'll say some stupid comment on how George W. Bush doesn't know anything about history then he'll get a smug look on his face and talk about how smart he is for realizing it. Take Dessants instead

This professor was very difficult. The tests often contained material that was not covered in class. The class focused mostly on wars in history and ignored culture and other important aspects of History. He is a hard grader and this is the only class I earned a "B" in. Unless you only are concerned with Wars in history, do not take him.

Whatever you do, do not take this class with this guy. His lectures are scattered and he goes off on tangents. His tests are hard and he changes formats of them, so you don't really know how to study for his tests. Also on the tests, it seemed like half the stuff he pulled out of his a**. Please, whatever you do, don't take Zimmerman. He's a scatter-head. Every day he talks about his loooooooong drive to school and makes comments about drinking and going to the bar.

He is the worst teacher I have had at Shippensburg! His tests are so hard and he doesn't have a set style on his tests so you have NO idea what youre getting into. And it goes the same for his quizzes. He really DOES NOT care whether you do good, and he also grades his papers harder than an English teacher would grade you. The only thing he cares about in History are all the Wars. The guy is also EXTREMELY opinionated, he is constantly bringing up the things he dislikes during class. I strongly advise you not to take this guy if you have the choice!

Mr. Zimmerman is a rather interesting character. His class is pretty boring, he goes on tangents a lot and none of his tests cover anything he discusses in class. He assigns lengthy out-of-class readings, which he will occasionally quiz you on. If you dislike doing complicated group assignments that it is IMPERATIVE you be very very well prepared for, he might not be the teacher for you, although I found it sort of fun. Really knows his stuff about history, but isn't the most gifted person at communicating it to a class. Long and confusing paper on the historical accuracy of a movie. Veeeeery confusing as to what exactly the f he wants. Tends to make blunt, dick comments on papers. And always kills the mood after a joke. Oh, and he'll pick one girl in every class that he thinks is hot and always call on her whether she's paying attention or not, whether he is actually talking about history or not... I know. I was this girl. The good part is, if you are this girl you will get good grades.

Professor Zimmerman is an intelligent man and one can see that when taking his class. I really enjoyed the material we covered on Vietnam and the Cold War. Although he got off subject a lot, he taught us life lessons that were effective. The only caution is really his lack of detail in the syllabus. A lot of the time I found myself guessing at what he was looking for. He is a hard grader on papers but I think he has good intentions. Overall I am glad I took the class...it was humorous more than overwhelming.

Mr. Zimmerman's teaching method was loosely and poorly structured. He is very vague with the information. The information in the course was presented in a scattered-like fashion which made the midterm and the final test very difficult. There are no outlines and no study guides and (I could be wrong) but it seemed as if much of the information he was looking for on the tests was never or rarely covered and if it was then it was covered in minute detail (e.g. certain essay questions and the thesisís for the handouts for the final). He did require group panel discussions and a final paper (10-15 pages). All in all, Karl seems like a man with good intentions and he's by no means an idiot. He is well-rounded in the military aspect of world history. My only advice for him would be to make his course more structured and organized and to help prepare his students with the important information that they should know for the tests. It just seemed like he failed to accomplish this.
