Subject: Wants YOU to succeed  (Apr 02 2009, 10:38AM)

This was my first semester in school in about 8 years. I found this class to be so embracing and informative. I thought I wanted to pursue journalism however this class taught me that I may want to explore other options. I even met with Professor G and we discussed these things, and she gave me some perspective on life. She was very helpful not just in class but in life goals. She keeps everyone involved in the discussions, and they are usually enjoyable enough that you leave each day with some new knowledge. There are only 3 tests, and the quizzes are easy because they are online and you can use your book while you take them. The final project is not too hard either, as you just have to find a creative way to show you learned something in the class. She never once said a word about attendance to me, and I have missed more than the "3 day" limit. I think if you just stay involved in class, do your quizzes and get A's, she doesn't bother you.

She was my favorite teacher. I love the way that she incorporates group activities and everything is so hands on. She takes time out of her busy schedule to help you and assist you even with problems outside of the classroom. The best thing is that she is a parent and she understands. Although she very nice, she still stays on you about your work and she does not allow you to walk all over her. I really love this teacher.

Professor Garris has started multiple new courses since first arriving at SHIP in the fall of 2004. "Television Performance," which turned out to be more of a "Broadcast Voice" class, was one of these courses. Garris did a good job at teaching the new material in a way that kept everyone involved, and I still use some of the helpful hints that I learned in the class. She is highly recommended for anyone hoping to succeed in the "Electronic Media" emphasis.

Professor Garris is definitely one of the best professors that I've had here at Shippensburg. She makes her courses extremely easy...if you put in a little bit of time and effort. It is all worth it though because the knowledge that you take away from her classes will help you tremendously in the real world. She's also got a great sense of humor and loves keeping the mood light in order to create a comfortable learning atmosphere.

Garris is hands down the best teacher I've had at Ship yet. She makes a subject that could be a little dry so interesting, and gets everyone into it.

Class isn't difficult at all and she is a very fun prof to be with. She has a policy where if you show up to every class and keep an "A" average on the small easy homework assignments you don't have to take the test (mid-terms and finals) and you automatically get an "A" on them! She is great!

Professor Garris is a great professor. She is relatively new at this "teaching" thing, but you'd think she's been in a classroom for years. Professor Garris is extremely effective, and you'll walk away with a great knowledge of the course material. BUT, she also knows how to make class fun, and students actually look forward to attending. She also does everything in her power to allow her students to succeed. I highly recommend Professor Garris for anyone looking for an enjoyable class in which you'll learn a lot with a limited amount of stress.

Prof. Garris is an AWESOME teacher. Everything she uses or does in her class she can relate to a real world experience, because she's had them all. She is willing to help at anytime, she just wants to see her students do well and become the best journalists. For the packages we did in ENG, we got to re-do them as many times as we wanted to get better grades. She actually encouraged it. Having her critique each project we did in class helped to know what to really look for. Definitley take her if you get the chance, she has so much knowledge and experience that it is really fun to learn!

Prof Garris is an amazing teacher. I learned so much in her class, AND it was the EASIEST class I've had since Jr High. Listen, there's a midterm and a final and they are both multiple choice and OPEN NOTE. Every question comes DIRECTLY from her practice quizzes on Blackboard. But this is by no means a pushover class. You will learn an incredible amount of information about the media. TAKE HER NOW

Professor Garris is a great prof who knows what she's talking about. Her classes were easy and pretty fun. We did group work every week and we only had two projects. Her tests were so easy. If you do the quizzes online ahead of time, you should be fine. Once again, great prof. Take her!

This teacher is awesome! She is so good to work with and if you have any problems, she is willing to work with you on them. She is fairly easy but you have to be able to put effort into the class. Can't wait to take her again!

Garris is such a cool teacher. Her projects are fun and she gives lots of chances for extra credit. Her grammer and style quizzes are a bit out there but she really knows what she is talking about. She is also very easy to get a hold of. I would recommend taking her!

There's not much you can say about a Mass Comm class, they're pretty basic and kinda boring, but Prof Garris was pretty cool. She has a lot of experience with the media, so she was interesting. Her tests were open note, but the questions could be kind of tricky. She had a couple of projects, but nothing was more than 4 or 5 pages. Overall I thought that she was a good professor, and I would say that she's your best bet for an A or B. Youre allowed to miss 6 classes without being penalized. That's pretty good. Take her.

I had professor, or "doctor" (as we now know) Garris for senior capstone last semester. (This class was taught by her and Professor Sipes. The days we had Garris were the worst. You can't blame her for the poor class structure or material, but the way she treated the class was astonishing. She spoke down to us, treated us like morons, and made fun of us right to our faces. She flat out told us, if you have a question that I already answered, too bad, figure it out. Do not think about bringing a cell phone, computer, or touching or looking at anything during class. She will run over to you, yell, and slam your computer shut on your fingers. Learning is not the important factor when taking any of her classes, its about getting out alive.

You will learn, which is good, but she sets the bar a bit high for an intro class. She's DRAMATICALLY changed her teaching style since her grad work! So the "nice and easy" comments from before don't apply anymore. She expects WAY to much information in her tests, your hand will cramp from writing so much and you will still get a bad grade when you expected to do well. DO THE STUDY GUIDES AT ALL COSTS, she lets you use them during the test and they are your life saver. Her attendance policy blows but she is nice and makes classes all right.

First off, the University scheduled me for Professor Garris's class. I didn't know what to expect, but at first I thought the class wouldn't be so bad. The criteria and class set up seemed really cool and seemed interesting. As the semester went on, I found myself tired of going to class and not wanting to go. The good aspects of the class, were that if you showed up to class every day and had an A average, then you were exempt from the midterm and/or the final. Also, the quizzes were online every friday and pretty much just covered the notes taken in class. The bad aspects of the class were that Professor Garris got a little annoying and tried too hard to be...funny. She was a nice woman, don't get me wrong. Personally, I didn't learn much, because of her personality and my attempt to void it out of my mind. If you can put up with her personality and the joke of the class...then take it. It is easy.
