Easiest professor I have ever had at ship besides the HACC teachers they bring pretending like they know how to teach. We took 1 exam in class, and 2 take home exams. One of the take home exams was the final, which on the last week of class, if you went to all of the classes, she gave you all of the answers.

I have an 8 am class with Professor Alvarez, which makes it difficult to get up for. In fact, I've missed it 9 times, yet still received an A. She gives you the DIRECT ANSWERS for the tests 2 classes before, and all you have to do is write them down. Plus, it's sociology. It's not hard, it's common sense. She played the movies Madagascar and Nanny McPhee for 5 classes straight. Really, it's probably easier than any high school class I ever had. Take this for an easy A. Really. If you fail, then you don't belong in college.

Dr. Alvarez has got to be the funniest teacher I've ever had. What kind of teacher makes the majority of the class literally pee themselves when she tells a story? AN AWESOME ONE! Even though she gets sick and misses class sometimes, she is still an awesome teacher and an easy A. You get to watch Madagascar for a grade, how awesome is that? MY RECOMMENDATION:: TAKE HER FOR ANY CLASS YOU CAN!

This class was so easy. A lot of the time she didn't show, but the times she did we watched good movies and when she did teach, she has good opinions. Tests and projects are easy and don't have to study much or put too much time into it. She has a good sense of humor too. I recommend her if you want an easy A.

Dr. Alvarez is the best professor in the Sociology Department, hands down! She has the most class-participation lectures I've ever seen out of any class. She actually cares about what you think and believe. She also takes your opinions and views to heart. In college, its not about cramming endless time on studying for exams, its about becoming independent, realizing your views and beliefs on certain social, economic, and moral issues. Its about becoming who you are going to be the rest of your life. If that's what you believe college is all about, and a guaranteed passing grade, then you must take this professor!

I really enjoyed class with Dr. Alvarez, not only is she insanely funny she also missed a good amount of class.... she tells you everything you need to study down to the questions that directly appear on the quiz. She lets you watch movies and is very laid back. If you want an A take her.

She makes this class so easy for you. You are stupid not to want to take her. She talks about her life, not sociology! It's ridiculous. Sometimes it gets boring but if you want an easy class, take her! Trust me, we've only taken one test so far and she gave us all the questions before the test and they were multiple choice. All we had to do is look the answers up in our book! Easy as pie!!!!! :)

Alverez might seem like an intimidating old grouch when you first see her, then after she talks you'll think she a hyper maniac but by the end of the 1st class you will love her to death. I PULLED D's ON EVERY TEST, SKIPPED THE FINAL AND GOT A "B"... take her... her class is often CANCELLED or CUT VERY SHORT... and you watch decent movies for half of the classes... BOTTOM LINE TAKE HER

Dr. Alvarez is very funny. She is sooo easy and if you are looking for an easy class she is definitely the one. First day we were in class for like 30 mins then we were out. We watched movies like The Hurricane and Chicken Little. I slept through her class most of the time and she gives you the answers and the questions to all the quizzes. Her class was fun... the only project we had was a poster or a powerpoint. EASY EASY EASY class I recommend it.

Easiest professor on campus. Take every class you can with her. Use all of your free electives on her as well. You will not regret it unless you actually want to do pointless amounts of work that will not benefit you at all when you enter the workforce. But, if you're like me, and actually care about your GPA and like a small workload because you actually have a life, then I definitely recommend this professor for every class available.

THIS WOMAN IS AMAZING. No lie, the exams are more essay objective as you take an upper level course, but she designs exams so that way no one fails. As I recall her saying to me, "Sociology is the most failed subject in college, statistically." Her discussions are amazing; she'll scream topics out loud, pause, and allow you to reflect on current issues applicable to the textbook. Get involved in the discussions, do more than a decent job on the poster/powerpoint presentation/paper, and pay attention to the exam review (a caveat for intro): more than likely, questions will come from the textbook website, so print those out and answer questions that she asks on the day of the review--it's likely those will appear on the test. This woman is nice, and she makes you realize that some people in society are just plain STUPID. And it's true. Embrace her words when you leave class: "Go away."

Dr.Alvarez is a fun professor. You don't even have to come to class to pass. But, it is important that you don't miss more than 3 classes because she will start deducting points. The first test comes exactly from the tutorial quiz online. And the 2nd and 3rd tests are easy. They include dressing up or writing a paper. 5 Extra credit points is also given for attending things outside of class. Take the class, it's an easy "A"!

The teacher was not with it at all but that really was not a bad thing. She never gave me back one single paper, test, project back so I could see what grade I got on it. She told me I had an A in the class and that I did not have to take the final. We watched 3 movies that took up two classes each (that is six classes of just watching movies) we also were going to watch two more but she could not get the equipment to work. The classes do drag out when she teaches.

We were allowed to take the tests home and had a week to do them. She is awsome at what she does and she really knows her stuff.  Very easy class. Although she talks on and on and on in class, you don't really have to pay attention. The day before the test she goes over the exact test. You don't really need to know what she says in class, just the definitions from the book. We didn't have to take a final, we had to write an essay about MLK, and we had to write a short essay about being a serial killer. Easy class.

Normally I wouldn't bother giving a professor a bad rating, but she just gives all other profs a bad name. Here are my reasons for giving her a bad rating:
1. She doesn't show up to class half the time which sucks if you have one of her early classes and get up for no reason.
2. You learn very little about sociology.
3. She's very unprofessional. (I went to this debate for which she was supposed to be an unbiased questioner but instead harassed one of the guys.)
4. She makes up grades. (I'm not lying about this, she had us all come in the one day if we wanted to check our grades. The one kid told her he didn't do a major project and still got an A, which was higher than the grade I got even though I did well on all of her tests and went to extra credit opportunities!)
Anyhow, I wouldn't want to see her get fired but she really needs to take her job more seriously considering that she's supposed to be preparing people for their future... not making them watch Madagascar...

If you love boring, useless, awkwardly silent and inconvenient classes, then this is the one for you. So, you want to raise your GPA. Well what if you're already a decent student and just want to maintain it....thats where the problem comes in. YES, its easy, but you will NOT learn anything. I received a B in her class, and was shocked that I didnt get an A. On the first exam (which she gives you the answers to) I got a 92% and then on random days, when I think she realized that not too many people showed up, she would randomly assign stupid group assignments, like 'write down what is a good society to you', and then the top groups would get some extra credit, so I got extra credit on top of that grade. And I turned in all the other bullcrap assignments and still get a B. And she NEVER gives papers/assignments back...so on the 2nd exam which was a take home exam, I have no idea what I got, but it shouldn't have been less than a B. And again with stupid assignments, like go to a public place and observe someone and write a lot of stuff down about them....easy, but again I have no idea what I got. And I had this class a 8am, and I am normally fine with that, BUT as a commuter it takes me about 35 minutes to get to school and it is a real inconvenience when I already left my house 20 minutes before she sends out and email saying that class is canceled....and this happened EVERY time she canceled class. I just keep getting more angry as I write this but its totally not worth the stress.

If you were able to calculate how much you pay a professor for every class you attend, you'll be surprised that Dr. Alvarez gets paid $75/class. You, the student, pay $75/class for 1 hour and fifteen minutes, to hear some of the riff raff that she has to say. This is pitiful. I learned more about population problems in other classes--sociology, political science and economics--than I have in her sociology class. It's completely futile when she shows an animated film--such as "Madagascar"--and pawns our $75/class as deeming it as "teaching." Ridiculous. Completely. I could have rented the film on one of those DVD machines at Wally World for $1 and got it overnight. To continue further with the rambling, the only time she makes an engaging lecture is if she is observed by a faculty member in the Sociology/Anthropology department. Now think about it...if you were being paid a decent salary and you want to make an impression on the university, would you want them to see that you are actually doing your job? And she will. She does that with such an inexplicable force. Lastly, I have to call her out on attendance. I do not care if she has an amazing excuse--just give us students the decency to inform us class is canceled. Please do not have us wait fifteen minutes. If you can post an announcement on the classroom door or have the department secretary forward the students an e-mail, that would suffice for doing your job. This is sad...my pet donkey could teach this class better than she and at least it could define "xenophobia" and relate it towards a population problem. I should have taken a more suited sociology elective. Would have done wonders for my soc major.

What a waste of time and money. I learned absolutely nothing. All we did was bitch about what is wrong in society when she did have a semi-cognitive lecture. If you expect to find out your grades during the course of the semester forget about it. She hasn't turned back a single assignment all semester and every time we ask for our grades she says "oh i'll have them next class" Its going into finals week and we still dont have our damn grades. This past class she left us sitting there for 45 min. She never showed up. Meanwhile, the whole class is waiting there under the guise of getting our final grades. If you want an easy class take it, but you won't learn a damn thing. I wish my job was as easy as this bitch's. []

Well, take a look at my ratings. First of all, Dr. Alvarez is an extremly easy professor. I've had harder classes in 5th grade. You're probably thinking that this is a good thing, and it is, if you want a GPA booster. The problem is that going to class is a waste of your time, because she doesn't teach. Also, don't bother studying for exam's, she gives you the answers before you take it, so you just need to memorize. When you do projects, don't put any effort into them, because all she does is look at it for 1 second, smile, and clap. She doesn't collect anything you do. It's just a joke of a class. So, if you want to memorize stuff, dread going to class, and waste your time, take this class. Otherwise, don't bother.

Dr. Alvarez's class has been the most asanine experience of my college career. Classes consist of boring lectures filled with long pauses where the only noise you hear is the voice of the professor in the next room over lecturing. She actually reads us the test the day before we take it, making her classes completely useless, but forces us to come anyway so that we don't have to take her equally useless final. Her idea of a paper is a paragraph on why you'd like to kill people, and after putting in hours of effort into a research poster, she glances at and only collects your references. While you would have to be a complete moron to fail her class, there is nothing interesting about her class, and unless you enjoy wasting hundreds of dollars and several hours of your life, I don't recommend taking her if you can avoid it.
