Dr. Barnhart was very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject he was teaching. Even though I dislike history I did not mind his class and if you study the tests aren't very hard.

Barnhart is by far the best prof at this school. He seems to know everything and finds cool and often humerous ways to connect topics. His familiarity w/ French and Asian language and culture gives him a cool international sophistication. The class honestly isn't that hard if you just do what he tells you to. I actually thought he was being too easy when he caved to grade criticism and threw in a curve. He takes great pains with curves and point scales to help even the lazy pass so you can't fail.

Barnhart is an all around good guy. He knows so much about history and world events that it makes it difficult to relate to him sometimes. We were only required to do a take home mid term and final along with a 13 page paper at the end of the semester. He was always offering help outside of class and during class, he made it enjoyable.

Don't take him. His lectures are boring and his tests are extremely hard. He doesn't teach the class very well and it is really hard to learn anything from this guy.

Barnhart was the hardest professor I have ever had! His tests were insane...they were soo hard! He always jumped around in class, his notes did not make any sense, he would never be around if I needed help, and if he was, he would give me a half assed answer. I'd say AVoID him :-D

Subject: Hardest Ever  (Dec 21 2005, 03:57PM)

Why am I writing a negative review even though I received an A in the class? Because professor Barnhart is perhaps the hardest professor I have ever had. His class has no shape or form -- there is no outline, no logic, no method to his mandess. He'll write down random words on the board, which are completely useless, and comment on ideas and points that are never on the tests. His class is fairly interesting, for a history class, yet they are not focused at all! His test are impossible - extremely detailed and the study guide is massive; not to mention you receive it one class beforehand, deaming it useless. Your only saving grace is the massive, inevitable, curve that he gives and the tests/final and the two papers he assigns 15% of your final grade each. If you can write a good paper you should be able to get about 30%, show up for class and you'll get another 15% -- so now you're at 45%...all you have to do is pray for a massive curve and a little luck. To be quite honest though, this guy needs some work on his teaching effectiveness, and I'm surprised somebody hasn't told the dean about him yet.

This guy should not be teaching, plain and simple. He does not know how to articulate ideas and thoughts, his mind just jumps around from one subject to the next. His grading scale is bogus, as he is very inconsistent and bashed everything you write, telling you that you are wrong and do not know how to explain thoughts. I can only imagine what his paper would be like...500 pages of jibberish. All in all, DO NOT take this professor, take someone who actually knows how to teach.

Do NOT, under any circumstance, take this professor. He can not keep his mind on any one topic for any length of time. In one class, you will jump around from SE Asia (his "speciality") to T.V. remote controls to why his favorite color is purple with a slight hint of red. Honestly, it is so difficult to stay on track with what the hell he tries to talk about. He is never around in his office; and don't ever think of emailing him. You have a better chance of discovering Atlantis than receiving his reply. His grading scale is impossible to get an A in his class, as he is very inconsistent with what he looks for in papers. This man needs to learn how to stay focused on a topic, how to grade a paper without ripping it apart and asking for such irrelevant details and so on. If you like History, as I do, stay away from this professor. You will learn nothing, and you will have wasted time and money in taking any of his classes.

All I've gotta say is stay away from this guys classes. I've had just about every difficult history prof. at this college, but this guy is something else. The class was not hard, not really, but his tests are essays that he only wants 2 paragraph answers for each question. You can write down everything that is relevant to the question and he still gives you like a 6/10 because you didn't write down some obscrure fact about the question. This guy really needs to realize that this isn't a graduate level course!!

AVOID THIS MAN AT ALL COSTS!! He is confusing, boring, and just plain annoying. His tests are almost impossible and he is NEVER around for extra help! He provides a study guide ONE class in advance and it includes all the material with no specific points to study. STAY AWAY...FAR, FAR AWAY!

Though this professor is nice, he doesn't know what he's doing. He jumps around when giving notes and when he actually writes the notes on the board they don't make any sense. His tests cover way too much information and he is very detail oriented. I only had/have to write two papers but the second paper assignment is going to be handed out only 3 days before its due. My advice would be to stay away!

DO NOT TAKE HIM. His test are impossible, he even comments on how hard they are. Yes he does have a curve on his test but I still got an F. I am an A/B student and he is really hard! I even went to almost every class. He is a nice guy but very scatter brained! Don't take him if you don't have too! There are alot of easy World History teachers at Ship! STAY AWAY

Professor Barnhart is a nice and smart person all around. Unfortunately, he is really smart but not really great at teaching this knowledge. Often times it was hard to relate to him because his word choice and overall speech was intelligently different. His grading scale was a little weird but he seemed to give the benefit of the doubt. The three books we read were dry at times so it was hard to get into them. Overall he is a nice guy but a stressful class nonetheless.
