I liked her class even though it was at 8am in the morning. She talks about up to date issues and is an interesting woman. I received a C because I was lazy. If I really gave a true effort I would've received an A hands down. Take her because she knows her stuff and you will too.

Dr. Borrell is a great teacher... she has everything for the semester laid out for you at the very beginning. She is easy to talk to, and she is very understanding. Her class is fairly easy. There is a good bit of writing to do but it isn't that bad.

Overall, Dr. Borrell-Schwenk was a wonderful professor to have for class. She was the first prof I had at Shippensburg, and she was so friendly and insightful towards students and their learning. She made her requirements toward speeches a bit difficult, but that was only to push the student into working hard in finding effective forms of communication. Her mid-term was straightforward, and she always seemed keen on referring to our textbooks on human communication, though I did not read much from the book. She can be tough for the most part, but if you do the readings and participate in her conversations, you will do fine in the class. She graded hard on presentations and papers--but I can say, she always made BOC real interesting. If she were to ever teach a course on human communication ever again, I would definitely take it. I do not know if she is a challenge in her Writing Intensive First Year Seminar, but I know she was tough as nails in BOC. If you put in the time and effort toward her class, you do petty well. She's an awesome lady with a great sense of humor...

Dr. Borrell is not the best choice at all. She is very rude to you in front of the entire class. She will find something to criticize you about. Oh, and do not try to argue with her, because she believes she knows everything about anything. She is a terrible professor. The notes you have to take are on powerpoints but she speeds through them and if you miss some, she just tells you it's too bad and to refer to the book. She very much likes to brag about her Ph.D from the Uni. of Pennsylvania. The three speeches you do are not that bad, but she will critique everything after you are done speaking in front of everyone. She likes to interrupt you as well. Seriously, she's terrible, do not take her whatsoever. If she is your last resort, wait until the next semester!

This woman seriously needs an attitude adjustment. She thinks she knows everything about anything! I actually ended up dropping the class because I couldnt take it anymore. I wasn't failing the class, I had a B, and I had it at 2pm so that had nothing to do with it, I just truly could not stand her! She makes it a point to talk about her Ph.D and how she attended Univ. of Penn every class. She does power points and goes over them way too fast and when you are trying to copy the notes down and ask her to slow down she says too bad, you should have already read about these notes for homework. You do 3 speeches, 2 are 5mins long and the other one is a group speech. Not joking though, if you can avoid her, do it, and even if she is your only option, dont take her class and take a different class and wait until the next semester to take intro. to hum comm.

The thing I noticed with Schwenk-Borrell is that she is very full of herself, condescending, and isn't good with explaining things. Very often does she like to talk about how she attend University of Pennsylvania for her Ph.D or about her 8 year old daughter - Both of which I don't care to know about as often as she mentions them. Also, the way she talks is as stated in the title very condescending at times. I have her TR and one of her problems is that she likes to make examples of other peoples' mistakes...by using them as an example. Great way of getting them to enjoy Speech class Melinda. Her general attitude is fake and condescending, she likes to be right and forgets who exactly gives her those paychecks. I would say take her for the class, her speeches are relatively easy, however, you just have to deal with the fact that she is [] full of herself.

This class is an easy class, but she makes it hard by over explaining everything. She will explain something at least three times confusing you more and more every time.

Dr. Borrell's tests really aren't that hard and you really don't have much homework or papers but she really stresses the three speech's you'll have to do. The class isn't really hard, but she is very annoying and is a stickler for attendance and will not hesitate to embarrass anyone in class if she feels like it.

Dr. Borrell was generally a good teacher, yet she treated us like elementary school kids. Her tests were super easy and the speeches are generally good topics, but the subject material was stuff I learned in high school. So basically I could have done most of the class without even showing up, but she takes attendance. If you are looking for an easy A or B, take her.

She is really very nice, and very passionate about speech - she really wants to improve your public speaking skills. However, I did not like the strict format we had to follow for all of our speeches. She sort of acted like we all came into the class knowing NOTHING about speaking, when, in fact, almost everyone has some experience with it already. If you like a lot of groupwork, you will like her. There is a midterm and a final, plus three speeches and a few little papers. Overall, not bad. Don't be scared about taking her - you will not hate her. It depends on your personal view on public speaking.

She is a very nice lady and easy to talk to but....she grades pretty hard for a gen. ed. class. You give three speeches total, personally I think she grades pretty hard for students who are majoring in communications and who are probably nervous as hell getting up there and speaking. She also gives you stupid ass assignments that are really easy but she grades them hard as always. She always wants you to reference the terms in the book and apply them to everyday life, well sometimes what they have in the book is bullsh*t terms that nobody really ever thinks about or recognizes. It seems like it would be an easy class but it isn't, and you do way to much work for a stupid gen. ed. class.
