Prof. Lesman is a great Spanish professor. Coming out of high school with some Spanish classes thinking the transition from high school Spanish to college Spanish would be beyond difficult, Prof. Lesman proved me wrong! We reviewed for the first week, then picked up where I left off in Spanish 2. The hardest part are the oral exams he gives where you have to present a dialog that is mostly improvised in his office. He really focuses on practicing Spanish and not just memorizing and regurgitating lines. Definitely would take again.

Prof L. is awesome. I used to walk by his class and see kids look bored and was worried about my class with him. I got into his class and he made things really fun! Homework: Bookwork and online. He grades you on if you completed the homework or not. He knows you're going to get things wrong but it's the fact that you did it that makes him see you are trying. Class: During class all you do is practice, practice, practice! You speak spanish the entire time instead of staring at a book. Sometimes on Fridays he's ok with speaking English. Sometimes you listen to songs and figure out what the artist is saying. It's fun! He also pulls up websites that students would use or look at and brings them up in spanish so we can relate to what we are learning! Over all AWESOME PROF! TAKE HIM FOR SPANISH!

By far the best in the department. If you really want to learn how to speak spanish take him. I have had other spanish professors at ship and he is by far the best. He is dedicated to helping students learn the language. I have decided to minor in Spanish because I enjoy his class. The work that he gives isn't hard but it will help you learn the language.

I was really nervous going into this class and didn't think I was going to do well because it is all in spanish. However, even though I'm not awesome at spanish I still ended up with a B+ in the class. Lesman's always willing to help. You have some homework, but as long as you try and attempt something you'll be fine. The exams include written, oral, listening, etc but they're not that bad. I don't consider myself anywhere near awesome at spanish but still ended up with a decent grade.

Lesman is the best man ever. He absolutely loves what he does and makes the class so much fun through his enthusiasm. Like most language courses, you need to get comfortable talking in class and having discussions regardless if you are wrong or not. He doesn't make you feel like an idiot if you're wrong but rather he helps you learn from your mistake and laugh at yourself. He'd adorable. I loved him. He's so understanding and wants to make sure you pass with a good grade. TAKE LESMAN!!!

The dude knows his stuff. You def. have to do some work and show up to class. He is a fun guy. Take him if you have the chance. He is the best teacher in the spanish department, hands down. You don't have to work incredibly hard, but you can't slack too much either.

Dr. Lesman's Intermediate Spanish class was sooooo easy. There is homework due everyday of class (which it is not checked everyday) but it is very simple and very little to do. This class is very laid back, non stressful and easy to follow. The material was very basic and there is no need to panic that it is taught primarily in spanish...it is all easily understandable. This class was by far easier than some highschool classes I had. The tests are more challenging but he allows a lot of opportunity for credit throughout the course so getting a good grade is so easy!!! He is also very straight forward and always gives help where you need it. I highly recommend taking his classes!

If you came to college thinking that 2 years of Spanish in high school was enough, well in most cases you were wrong, just like me. I dreaded taking spanish until I realized how brilliant of a teacher Dr. Lesman is. He takes a concept that is difficult for most and allows you to understand by the end of the semester. He is such an awesome teacher who knows exactly how to share his craft. Thank God for Dr. Lesman

I was at first worried about taking Professor Lesman's class seeing as I hadn't had spanish since 3 years ago in high school. It turned out that his class was not bad at all. I'd say that anybody who does all the work and shows up for class will simultaneously learn spanish and pass. Put in some extra effort to study for exams and you can get an A no prob. He gives 4 exams and 3-4 quizzes, and you must show up for class (miss 3 and you fail). Also he gives homework assignments on blackboard due for every class, but they are quick to do and you can fix your answers if they are wrong the first time. They prepare you for that day's lesson, and will help you raise your grade (hardly a burden). In class, you will go through the book and then practice that day's lesson with a partner, which is surprisingly effective. Overall, he is definitely a good teacher and you won't regret taking him.

I absolutely loved Dr. Lesmanís class. He is an outstanding teacher. Youíre class will be taught completely in Spanish but he explains everything and is very patient. I just declared a Spanish minor and I will be taking every other possible class he offers. He really is the best Spanish professor at ship.

Prof. Lesman's class is a great learning environment. He speaks spanish throughout the whole class for Spanish 3, so if you didn't learn enough to understand in 1 and 2, it could be a little hard for you. His tests include writing, speaking, and translation, so he is very thorough. If you plan on missing more than 5 classes, though, this is not the professor for you.

Subject: Wonderful Instructor - but definitely expects work  (Dec 02 2007, 06:52AM)

Dr. Lesman expects you to learn by practicing not memorization. This is college, preparing you for the real world so if you are serious and dedicated about learning, take him - if not, do not waste your time OR his. He is a very bright and insightful professor but he doesn't coddle his students. He's demanding of your time outside of class to practice, but reasonable in his demands. After having the same awesome Spanish instructor for two semesters, I was apprehensive about taking Dr. Lesman, but his class was a smooth transition, and all my worry was unfounded. Be warned, Dr. Lesman adheres strictly to the department's attendance policy. If you are planning on not attending class and passing...you won't in his class.

I thought Dr. Lesman's class was really interesting, and enjoyed every class. Plenty of homework, but pretty easy, not really much in the way of quizzes/tests, just 1 or 2, a project here and there, one with a partner, no final exam. Definitely recommend him for this class.

If you have had spanish before and remember it, this class will be an easy A, if not, this prof will not teach you a damn thing about the language. You are simply supposed to learn on your own because he claims "there is no way to 'teach' a language". Going to class is completely pointless except for the attendance points that he gives, so if you do not already know how to write and speak spanish you will be spending a lot of your time in the learning center learning what he should have taught in class. The tutors there seem to know how to "teach" a language, why can't this prof? Isn't that the point of being a prof.? to teach??
