I really enjoyed this class. It was a 3 hour night class, but we were usually there for 1 1/2 hours or so, with a coffee break. Interesting stuff for the most part. He makes it fun. The project was easy. There are 4 really, really tiny papers. (I'm talking 2-3 paragraphs, and all about what you think about music) He even cancelled the final because the ENTIRE class had A's. Great prof, good class, TAKE HIM NOW!

Don't bother buying the book if you take Cart. You only need the CD and CD info... get it from a classmate if you can. He gives you the all the notes and study guides you'll need for the tests, which, if you study, you should do well in. Some students will find the videos tedious. Then again, I was in a 3 hour night class, so he may not always use videos like he did with us. The project is easy and he's an overall easy grader. It's a group project where you make a culture and come up with their musical identity. You can have lots of fun with it. I found the subject interesting. I'm glad I took Cart for World Music.

This class is an interesting class and Cart is amazing at teaching it. He gives you an idea of what to study by giving study guides and the tests are soooo easy. The final was really easy it was my last one and took me a total of, get this, 10 MINUTES!!! lol and most of that was listening to music for the listening portion. Great class, learned a lot and would definitely take him again!

Dr. cart is a professor who actually cares how his students perform in class. His lectures are mixed up with video clips and music (obviously) and he hands out study guides for all exams. An in class writing assignment is worth 10% of your grade and i think everyone got above a 90% on it in my class. He offers a huge extra credit presentation at the end of the semester which can bring your grade up by like 5%. Go to the concerts and you automatically have a good shot at getting an A.

I've had Dr. Cart for three classes and choir, he is the best teacher I've ever had. He makes a subject that isn't very interesting easy to understand and fun. For Opera class we watched an opera almost every class, a lot of them are really bad- but he lets you make fun of them and talk during class assuming you're not too disruptive. His tests are easy assuming you go to class and read your notes beforehand. For Voice Class I only wish I had more time to work with him. He is always willing to work outside of class and helps with any questions. He's awesome and everyone should take him.

cart is a very nice guy. although the subject is absolutely boring if you aren't into music or cultural stuff. for my class, he saw everyone wasn't studying so he gave us a complete study guide and the tests were multiple choice. i would recommend him.

Subject: Really Nice Guy  (Dec 24 2005, 11:41AM)

The grades in this class consist of 3 exams, the final, several music events, and one group project. In the group project you have to create your own society. You have to tell about their music, their economy, the political and religious structures, and how all that relates to music. But you have all semester to work on it. Dr Cart originally had 3 exams plus the final scheduled, but due to scheduling conflicts and dates being pushed back, I only took two tests in this class. All his notes were on a powerpoint presentation and he tries really hard to demonstrate the different musical vocabulary. I believe he is a very effective teacher and a nice guy.

Dr. Cart is a good teacher. He presents the material in a way that isn't too heavy-duty. However, in World Music class especially, the tests have many foreign words (some of which only differ by one letter or an accent mark). These words make up the majority of the multiple choice tests. So, I recommend World Music with Dr. Cart if you have a good memory. I recommend Cart for any music class you would need.

This professor is ok. He does not give you extremely hard work. Some of it is hard and his teaching is hard to follow sometimes, but he gives you plenty of chances to get extra credit (by going to concerts on campus). You have to attend a certain number of concerts on campus to pass, some of them are really boring! I would suggest taking Dr. Cart if you are somewhat interested in Music.
