Dr. Cornell is a great teacher. Yes he is hard but at the end of the semester you will come away knowing a lot of information. He is always around to help you and will provide answers if you ask. Take him if you actually want to come away from the class learning valuable information.

Cornell is a fun teacher. He is very personable and easy to talk to, and his class is enjoyable. He gives blackboard quizzes that allow multiple attempts so you can ace every one. All notes are online and he really tries to help his students out.. take this class.

Cornell is a really cool guy. Overall his class is a lot of work for a gen ed. BUT all his lectures are posted online in advance so it makes it really easy to sit in class and space out. He also gives quizzes on blackboard but you can get 100% every time because it tells you which questions you got wrong and it really helps your grade. The labs suck, but they're not impossible as long as you just do the work - it's really not that bad if you aren't a lazy ass. He also lets you have a cheat sheet for each test. I honestly didn't read one page of the book and I got a high A. If you want to be a lazy asshole and say that taking a 20 question quiz is too much work, then he isn't the prof for you. But if you actually want to learn something interesting, and want a prof who isn't a dickhead and has a great sense of humor, I really recommend that you TAKE HIM!

Oh my gosh when we first started class it was no big deal but then I got to his first exam and it sucked. He is the best prof I have had at ship, but his exams are killer. Although he lets you have a cheat sheet they are still hard. He drops your two lowest grades on tests, labs, and other things. I really recommend taking him.

Dr. Cornell makes it extremely easy for you to get a good grade. There are quizzes posted on blackboard weekly based off of the readings for the week, but you don't even need to do the readings to get a perfect on the quizzes as they can be taken as many times as you want, and the results list which answers were correct. Each quiz is 100pts or more and a huge help in raising your grade from a bad lab. Labs are also due each week and are also an easy way to keep your grade up because they're graded on effort, not accuracy. All lectures are in power point format and are posted online, but still go to class to get the extra stuff that isn't included in the outline. An 8.5x11 cheat sheet is permitted for every exam making it extremely easy to pass. I had this class as a 3 hour night class, and It was very easy to pay attention because of the way he relates to his students. I highly recommend this class, especially if you're looking for a lab credit since you don't have to sign up for lab and lecture separately.

Prof. Cornell is one of the most effective prof's I have had @ Ship. I came into his class just looking for an easy A in a Gen. Ed. but ended up having to work for it. His tests are fairly extensive, but there is an interesting "hometown analysis" geology project and a real laid back group project dealing with a current event such as Global Warming or something. PLENTY OF EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM!!!! If you don't youre a lazy idiot! Overall, you have to work harder to fail his class then to pass it. The way he teaches the material makes it interesting and for some reason he always made jokes and references about 'my mom' which certainly kept my attention through his lectures. Worth taking, You'll actually enjoy and learn something @ the same time... What a concept!!

Okay, first off...the only reason I decided to take geology was because it was the only gen. ed. available at the time. I found Professor Cornell's class very interesting, although it was pretty difficult. He assigns labs that require some work outside of class, exams that are pretty long and cover a lot of information, a very detailed research paper, a debate, and attendance is required. Although I knew nothing about geology first coming into the class, I found myself actually enjoying learning it. He finds a way to make it interesting and even though a lot of work is involved, if you try your hardest and do okay, it all pays off in the end. Take him if you want to learn something interesting and new. This was one of my favorite professors at ship so far because he was very kind and willing to help!

Most people will tell you that dr. cornell gives way too many assignments, his tests are hard, and isn't very effective. He is a very good teacher though and he knows what he is talking about. If you go to him with any questions, he answers them straight-forward and well. He has power points everyday that are very useful, he gives lengthy study guides for all 3 exams..the exams are hard and you do have to study hard for them. He is a challenging prof but very effective. His class was interesting and we went on field trips. Also he does give a lot of work, but it's worth it if you don't do good on exams. I got a D and a low B on my first 2 exams but I still have a B+ in the class and that is before the final exam. If you can, TAKE HIM! You will actually learn..and its def not boring material! I had a great sem with him!

Professor Cornell is a really nice guy. That being said, I think he has a terrible time communicating what he expects from his students. He gives assignments but does not explain them other than mentioning that you have one. Finally when multiple students email him to ask what the assignment actually is, he will email the class explaining the huge project that you are supposed to do... and with only 24 hours left before class. He assigns multiple projects to do outside of class on top of hundreds of pages of readings for each week, which "shouldn't take long". I am all for doing homework and not getting an easy A... this is college and you need to work for a degree. However, if you have a job and have any other classes I strongly suggest a taking a different professor!

First let me preface by saying that Cornell does try hard to get u to understand the info but his class is a crapload of work. Prequizes every weekend labs every week and tests that make u want to drink the ink out of your bic pen. Seriously dont take this guy if you are looking for a gen ed class that you can pass even moderately easy.

Do not take this class unless you are extremely interested in geology and can teach yourself everything. The labs are sooo long and so hard, and he offers help but just asks you the same questions anyway. This professor does not teach this class as a general education class, it's more like a 400 level course for geology majors... if you have Cornell, good luck b/c you're probably getting a C at best

Professor Cornell's class is ridiculous! Not only does he expect you to complete weekly quizzes and discussion board assignments, but he also gives ridiculous labs that require you to come in outside of class. I think he gave about 5-6 labs out throughout the semester and the worst part was, they didn't even correspond to the book that we had. It would suggest that we refer to our text page _ and we wouldn't even be able to. As if all of those assignments aren't enough for a 100 level gen ed, he also requires you to do a paper on the geology of your hometown and a debate. After completing all of this work, it is difficult to get a really good grade because his tests are extremely hard. The man definitely needs to reevaluate what it means to teach a college level course without giving tons of busy work.

Cornell gives way too many assignments in addition to the text reading and information needed for the tests. The research paper is extensive, the tests are hard, weekly quizzes and discussion boards, with many labs that require you to come back to the classroom after class hours to complete. He is usually available for help, but this class seems more like a class you might take if you are deep into this major.

Let me start off by saying that Dr. Cornell is an awesome professor. He has a great sense of humor and he knows how to keep the class interesting. And he definitely knows what he is talking about so you will learn a lot. The bad part is that there is a TON OF FREAKING WORK!!!! So much so, that it takes me longer to do his homework than all other classes combined. The only easy thing in his class are the pre-quizzes which he gives once a week online. Everything else (exams, labs, and projects) are horrible. He expects way too much from students as this is just a gen. ed class. If you're a geo major or like rock. And work, this class is for you. If not, run far, far away.

If you do not want to work, do not take this class. He gives pre-quizzes for each chapter. They are easy because they are online and you can take them as many times as you want until you get a grade you are happy with, so they help boost your grade. But he gives a lot of labs, and some of them require a lot of work. His tests are pretty hard, you definitely have to study. But he is pretty funny and tries really hard to make class interesting. Geology should have been horribly boring, but he definitely made it bearable.

Alright heres the deal, Dr. Cornell is a very nice professor who wants you to do well. He loves his job and he is knows his stuff. The class is definitely doable, theres a load of work, most of it is just busy work, but its easy. Theres 3 exams and a final which you get to use a cheatsheet. PUT GRAPHS IN THERE. When you take his class expect to work a little bit, but it is def doable.

Ok heres the deal. Dr. Cornell is one of the nicest professors ship has. He is always willing to talk to you and clarify anything. You get to make a cheat sheet on his 3 exams AS WELL as the final. Heres the bad thing, the tests are pretty difficult, he also throws in a buttload of work, there is a lab each week and a lab consists of about 60 questions (thats numbering all the 1A 1B 1C). You also do an online pre-quiz once a week, which... if you figure out the method, you'll ace every single one of them. The pre-quiz and labs are worth about half of your final grade. The 3 tests and the final are the other half. So in all, his class is definitely doable, but be prepared to do a lot of work.
